Well, we made it through the night and I kept my cool although it was hard. Watching my son running around BBQing, cleaning up, doing dishes, feeding the baby, and watching the two other kids while moving sprinklers just didn't sit right with me while his wife sat on her duff. I guess it might be the new way kids now have of raising their families where the father is totally invovled, which I think is good, but I also think the mother could do her share too. Just my opinion. We had a good visit with the grandkids and even her parents were civil this time. But, we were starving. For 13 people she only made hamburgers with only tomato for fixings and a small green salad. My son is a big guy (6'8") and he can really eat. I'm sure he had to have something later like we did. I think it was all worthwhile though to see what the baby looked like after he got hold of his cake. It was chocolate, of course, and he was covered from head to toe. Straight to the bathtub after eating it. I got some great pictures (I hope) and ran out of film which isn't like me. I've got to learn to use the digital camera. As soon as we got home, I headed straight to the kitchen to make us a snack. I'm thinking she just doesn't know how to entertain people. We aren't picky eaters but I think she might just panic and then doesn't have a clue what to do. Oh well, at least there wasn't a big arguement and the evening was okay.

Shelley: I'm so disappointed that Third Watch is finished. I'd never heard a word about it being gone for good. It was so different having the firemen, police and paramedics all in one. And I agree, the reality shows are a little much now.

Brenda: We must have the same list and time slot. I'm always running around trying to get everything done and still fit in time for fun stuff and never get it all done. I wish I was one of those people that could stay to he** with housework and leave it all and just do what I really want. I love to scrapbook and I'm now a year behind on my pictures. All kinds of ideas in my head of what I want to do and no time. Maybe that should be my new years resolution next year....make time for fun.

It's only 9:30 a.m. and I've already started it off with an arguement with my daughter. She works for us, so I know exactly how much money she makes. But, I swear, if that girl had a nickel, she would spend a dime. She takes so many advances she's lucky she can pay rent each month. Then of course, I get the phone calls asking if I can "help" her out. Dad is not to know of course. I'm a softy, but every now and then I get mad like this morning. Nothing like having the first call of the morning and someone wants money. This time it's to buy a vaccuum cleaner. So, I told her to use a broom or save for one. Not my problem. Kids!!!

It's cloudy and cool so far today. Would be a good day to play in the garden. It's supposed to clear up and get up to about 28 C (86 F) by this afternoon. Poor dogs have to wait until after supper for their walk...too hot for chubby puppies to walk right after work.

Have a good day, all!

Good afternoon, all

I unexpectedly got the day off today...color me very happy So far though, I have managed to diddle most it away. I did however, get in a quick shopping trip to Dillards at the mall for a Clinique run. I was almost totally out of my skin care products
I can't really say I've been very productive other than getting in a 2 mile brisk walk around the neighborhood this am.

Judy, yes I live in OKC. If you're ever up this way, give me a shout...same offer stands; would love to buy ya a cup of coffee, or green tea! And where in east Texas are you? Tyler? My sister in law keeps wanting us to take a week end trip and meet her in Tyler to visit her mom. We keep saying we will, but we never seem to get there!

Donna, glad everything worked out well for the baby's party. I can just picture the little one with chocolate cake smeared all over...LOL...we have a picture of our daughter on her first or second birthday, same scenario. Priceless photos for sure. Also, I just wanted to say, I can certainly identify with the money issue as well. I swear, sometimes our one and only daughter, now age 28, thinks we are a branch of Bank of America! Of course it's her dad who caves in to the "pleeeeease daddy?"

Ilse, sounds like you are one busy lady! I couldn't even begin to imagine how I would get our house ready to sell. I'm having a hard enough time trying to wrap my head around this redecorating project I'm about to start...LOL. Thank goodness for the wallpaper lady that's coming to help me out!

Well, guess I'd better make the effort to at least LOOK like I got something accomplished today...laundry to be folded awaits me.
I'll most likely check back in later this evening.
Until then...

Shelley

hi all!

I just got back to work from the Spa! Spent 5 hours there! Yay! Had a manicure, pedicure, facial, and a massage. I now look about 40! (Yeah, riiiiiight!)

Shelley!!! So glad you decided to join us! It's great to see you! I hope you are having a good day off with not too many voices telling you what to do (in your head).

Don't worry, gang. We are just flying out to SoCa for 10 days starting Thursday. I'll be back in MA on the 21st. We don't take our BIG trip until next Fall. I will check in on the internet when I can get to a computer. I'm not taking my laptop for this trip. It's too much to schlep around. Yaknow, Shelley, we may come through Oklahoma in the Fall. I'll let you know. This trip is DH's 50th college reunion. It's the one that I was going to look like "arm candy' for last winter when I said I was going to get in shape. HA! Well, I will be at least 10 years younger than most of the wives! this is also the trip where DH invited all his kids to come and stay with us in our beautiful time share! We are having a family reunion on Sunday. My DD3 (youngest) is coming with her ummm, "significant other" and my 3 grandkids (5,9,11) It will be a good time. Really.

Thanks for the tips about WATP. Think I'll try that.

I gotta jet. Got work to do before I go to a 7:00 pm meeting.

Peace, Peg

KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIM! How great to see you!!!!!!!!!!! Hey stop in more often!! You are certainly a Vet too. But, you already have your own "friendly" thread going there with your journal, girl. I'm still lurking there. I just love your posts. Thanks for the compliments. Blush! Actually, I look kind of like I've been drug through a ringer. I didn't bring my makeup with me to work. Forgot. Luckily, it's only the former Californians who wear makeup in Massachusetts. But, my skin is baby soft, and the sunburn I got at the tanning salon two weeks ago was "exfoliated" by the massage. Oh boy, what a good Mother's Day present I gave myself. I also bought myself a little "bling-bling." he he.

Default Re: May Tracking

Well, after suffering near-panic attack anxiety levels, I succumbed to a great many cookies over the weekend (my drug of choice, I guess). I went from 134 lbs. to 137.5 in a matter of hours and it stuck. This was not helped by the beautiful Mother's Day buffet we attended on Sunday (a command performance for one of my oldest friend's mother).

As of yesterday, I am back on program, but not at induction levels. If my weight doesn't level out by the end of the week, I think I'm due for a good week or two of induction.

Because of the holiday and bad weather, we've had rather little traffic through the house since Saturday. But, the people who have looked seemed quite interested. I can tell from the real estate agents cards that some are on their 2nd showing here. Our broker sent me an email today saying that she received word from 3 agents that they will present offers tomorrow.

EVERYBODY - PLEASE CROSS YOUR FINGERS FOR US TO GET SOME SOLID OFFERS ON THE HOUSE!!!

The broker and I covered a lot of territory today looking at townhouses. I know (believe me, I know) how much work it is to get your house looking spiff for selling, but some people seem to have no shame. We were in one house where they didn't even bother to pick up the laundry and there was a filthy aquarium - felt very sorry for the fish.

Still, I saw one place I really, really liked. It has more stairs than would be perfect (all bedrooms are either a flight down or a flight up. Well, that would be good for my thighs, eh? The downstairs rooms have windows opening on to light wells. I thought those rooms would make a good TV room and office. It's in the foothills. There is nice, rolling terrain, very well-kept landscaping with larger than average greenbelts, a fantastic little garden, and a totally upgraded kitchen. Oh - and it's about 600 sq.ft larger than our house. If we get a good enough offer tomorrow, I think we may make an offer on that place Friday.

Boy, Donna - you guys are really having the great weather! Beats our Californian weather all to pieces. It's still unseasonably coolish here: heavy rain and even hail yesterday - coolish again today. But, It sounds like it would be a great day to hang out in the garden at your place. Do you ever just sit and enjoy your yard? I almost never do that. If I'm out, I always end up weeding or something.

Ummm, Peg - the spa day sounds so luxiurious! I agree with Kim - feeling 40 is way better than looking 40, isn't it? And, what kind of bling-bling did you score?

Shelley, sometimes the best way to spend a day off is to just kick around. Productivity be d***ed! Smell the roses, savor the coffee, do something inconsequential that matters to no one except you!

Ilse, good for you for keeping to the LC program! I'm sure the re-entry will get easier with each passing day. As for selling your house - hopefully, some of the FSBO websites will give your house some more exposure. I see your point about wanting to avoid the big commissions charged when you go MLS with the house. Hopefully, the right person will happen by - if not, you can always try one of the MLS places down the road.

BC, I hope the headache from the gas fumes is gone by now. As much artistry as you put into your jewlery, I can see why yard work would seem dull by comparison. You are right - a lot of the yard work is drudgery and the clean-up is even worse. I happen to like planting and weeding, and (not always) trimming. But, I hate the picking up part. I used to leave everything for DH to cleanup after me. But, that doesn't work anymore (sob!).

Ha, Judy! I am so ~there with you~ on the AADD! Last fall, my best friend gave me a book on the subject, "Driven to Distraction". At the time, I couldn't read more than a few paragraphs without drifting off, LOL! I'm doing better now, but still tend to jump from pillar to post. Is that another midlife thing?

Alida, I want to see those pictures you hinted at - I bet your garden is looking quite nice by now.

Barb, the pilgrimage to Scotland sounds so great - do you think they need any chaperones? I bet you'd make a great chaperone for the Iona trip.

Kim, it's always a pleasure to see your smiling face over a post! You always know just what to say to make folks feel good.

Wow, where did the day go? I decided to take a little "me" time today, but LOL, nothing to compare with Peg! What a nice treat. My "me" time consisted of going to the yarn shop and finally starting the sweater I bought yarn for a couple of months ago. I was having beginner's anxiety over it, but in the comfort of a homey shop and the encouragment of some lovely ladies, I have a few rows under my belt.

Ilse, hope you got the phone you wanted. Your house looks marvelous for showing!

Judy, I can imagine after so many years teaching you can grade papers in your sleep, so it's no wonder if your mind drifts to more interesting things.

Donna, glad the party was ok even if not abundant. I wonder if your DIL really doesn't have much clue about how to do some of the things you take for granted because you are such a capable person. And obviously your son learned from you to be a capable young man, too; the kids will have a good role model in him.

Shell, my Dad was in OKC last week visiting my cousin. They took a little trip to Mangum, the little town where my Dad met my Mom, my cousin grew up, and I was born. I suspect it was a day of nostalgia all around. Hey, glad you got a day off! That's great! Is Dillard having Clinique bonus time, eh? At least, that's the only time cheap me buys Clinique.

Kim, Hey!!!

Peg, spa AND bling? Woohoo!

TB, are you up to your ears in alligators??

EDIT: TB, we were posting at the same time. Oh yes, I do wish you solid and high offers with no contingencies! The townhome sounds wonderful, too, so I'm really hoping it turns that way for you. Hey, this is a major stressful event. Even with a few cookies and a buffet, you have done very well, my friend considering the stress of this kind of thing.

Ilse, We have Sprint phones and have been very pleased with the Sprint to Sprint option. We can call any other Sprint phone anytime, anywhere for no charge against our daytime minutes. We actually have three phones on the same bill, and all share minutes. Because of the Sprint to Sprint option, everyone in our extended family has Sprint phones so we never have minute charges.

Donna, I'm glad the party worked out and everything went well. You hit on something that you might want to consider again. Your son's marriage is not traditional. It doesn't make it wrong, it's just not the way you expect it to be done. My DH and I also have a backward type situation and it's worked well for us. He sold his business quite some time ago. Initially he intended to take off work for 6 months or so, then find something else. He had been working very long hours 6 days a week and sometimes 7 for the whole time we were married. He hardly even knew his kids. After a while we settled in with him as a Mr. Mom and me as the working parent. It turned out to be an outstanding arrangement. Both our kids turned out great, and I give lots of credit to him for being there for them at every turn. He was the baseball and softball coach, and the one that cooked hamburgers for the football team and kept scores for the high school games and on and on. His parents had problems with the situation for a while, but eventually they realized we were happy with it and so they finally let their expectations go. Now, he has the time to go to take care of them when they are down. And to tell you the truth, I feel pretty spoiled. I don't do laundry, and I don't do groceries.

Shelly, You are close in guessing Tyler. I'm in Longview. Tyler is about 40 miles away. If you ever make it to Tyler, let me know. I can give perfect directions to Starbucks.

Peg, Your day at the spa sounds absolutely wonderful!!! The girl that I did the heroic prom dress alterations for gave me a gift certificate for a facial at a local spa. I think I'll wait until right before DS's wedding (whenever that ends up) and have it done so that I'll be a good looking Mother of the Groom. And speaking of make-up........... You'd be right at home in Texas. We are firm believers in not going out of the house without a perfect face. I don't think I would ever be able to do the naked face look. The closest that I come to that is making a direct trip to Curves on Saturday morning then coming home for a shower and full face deal.

What does WATP stand for??? I assume from the conversation that it is something about walking.

Kim, Glad to have you. You always brighten things up.

Teel, How goes the house selling? I hope that no news to us is good news that things are busy for you.

Brenda, Are you in the workshop creating more pretties?

Good News.......... I came home empty handed today. It's a great feeling to be caught up -- even if it is for only one afternoon. I'm off to catch a little TIVO. I feel like Miranda on Sex in the City --- TIVO is the perfect date. It gives you anything you want whenever you want it, and it will shut up when you are ready. :great:

Teelbee, here's the truth: you can't gain 3.5 lbs of solid anything in three hours. It may stick around for a while, but it's WATER. Now get off the scales and move on. You've got enough on your plate. (But take the cookies OFF.)

The Iona trip has plenty of chaperones. DH and I are planning a trip to New Zealand in 2006, and we won't have to herd teenagers.

We're having a heat wave in KC. The top is down on the Miata. TIME magazine this week has an article on women's mid-life crises. I had mine a long time ago. I'm on my 2nd Miata. Recommended for curing any old lady feelings.

Kim, .........Sheer Dallas-----eeek! They have gone in and picked by far the most outrageous people in the city and put them on that show. We are definitely not all like that.

About as close as I can get on a mid life crisis car is thinking about getting something 2-door. Miatas are cute though. My brother had one for years.

So much to catch up on. If I miss someone, I'm sorry!

Ilse, I tried your site but the photos all had X's on them. I try Netscape. Sometimes that browser works better than aol . . .

Donna, I am so glad you kept your cool. I have a friends whose step daughter is just like that. Not a clue about common sense and basic social skills. It's a tricky road to follow to maintain family harmony. You are to be commended!

Barb, thanks for the e-card! Three Little Tenors! What a hoot! No call or card from my sister. Sigh. To be expected. This made me sorta "down" on my birthday. I was actually thinking about my Mom. One year on my birthday she included a note about the day I was born and how happy she was . . . what the day was like outside . . . flowers blooming, birds singing. I treasure that note. I should frame it. I agree with Hallmark's survey, Barb. I think birthdays are the number one special day of the year! And my mother was always the one to make me feel special. It's been 20 years since she died and I still miss her.

Peg, how wonderful to have a spa day! That is such a TREAT! Even better than Aunt Ruth's Pecan Cake, LOL. BTW, my Mom was a Thanksgiving baby, too! Have a absoslutely fabulous time on your trip. You will be a knock-out!

Kim, HEY! Why don't you join us on a regular basis???

Work today . . . a HyVee grocery store with windows so big we will have to seam. Can you say Fun With Film? LOL.

Hi everyone!

I went to Geneva to get my new cell phone. While I was there, a lady was telling them about problems with her current cell phone. I had two phones on me, the one I was using and the one I thought I had lost over a year ago. I brought the extra one to see if they could accept it as a trade-in. They couldn't. The lady couldn't get an upgrade on a phone until November. She was trying to figure out an alternative. I handed her my old phone (I had cleared out all personal info already). She offered to pay me for it and did. After that, I went to WW in Schaumburg. After the meeting, I got a call on my new phone, but didn't answer it properly. It was from my DH, but he had turned off his phone already, so I couldn't check what he wanted. I drove out to a Japanese supermarket with the intention of getting food there. But, the sushi I wanted was gone and the restaurants were closing. When I got home, my DH was there (he was out of town and supposed to return tonight). I made a good choice for take-out food for dinner (I didn't want to, but the place I wanted to go to was closed already). I had a bloat last week when I was at WW. This week I was done 6 pounds, but not as low as I was a few weeks ago when I rejoined WW.

Well, have a wonderful day!
