| Oh, Kim, this is the first I've heard about your husband. I am so sorry . . . you must be so worried. But you mention this will be a new doctor. Perhaps having a pair of "fresh eyes" will help? With today's science and advances in medicine, it just seems so impossible that they can't "do" anything. TB: Congrats on the FAST sale! When will you know if your offer on the TH is accepted? Now the crunch begins! We've done all three types of moves: the do-it-yourself, the full-service and the "Two Men and a Truck." For the Two Men deal, we packed up and moved all the boxes and little stuff ourselves. Mainly used the Two Men for all the furniture. It was still about $1500. That was three years ago. I SHUDDER to think about moving again. Hope it's never and I die in this house! And LOL about those darn cookies. Hey! Make some LC ones . . . as if you have time right now! Barb, a Merlot Miata? How cool! I drive around in a Pontiac Montana Mini Van. That's my work car . . . . Not exciting but it meets all the requirements! Judy, the new wedding plans sound lovely. My husband is an avid fisherman, too. Have some stuffed on our office walls . . . have a stuffed standing bear in our LR. Did I mention he's a hunter? Or was, when he was younger! Aargh. The job yesterday left me sore and grumpy. Here's a run-down: 5 big windows in the cafeteria area. They built a wood canopy-thingy over the area. I could get to the glass, but barely, with some screws sticking out behind the wood so we had to be careful not to scratch or tear the film or our hands. Put up ladder. Clean top of glass. Move ladder to access bottom of glass. Clean bottom of glass. Arrange two step stools to install bottom part of film first. Two people needed to apply film and squeegee and trim. Move two steps out of way. Put back ladder. Re-clean top of glass from overspray. Apply top part of film, getting a even overlap. Bang heads on canopy thingy. Squeegee and trim with much difficulty around canopy thingy. "bump" edges at top, come down ladder, bump lower portion. Back up ladder to final clean and wipe film. Back down ladder. Move ladder. Wipe lower portion. All this x 5. My assistant is good but slow. I kept getting "short" with him to speed things up. Plus English is definitely not his first language. He's from an area east of India called Manipur. He looks more mongolian than indian. He's also a baptist minister here in the US for school. He's now on his doctorate. And since I am hard of hearing, it sometimes takes 3 to 4 tries before I actually understand what he says. I need more patience. RANT over. Who was it that said their husband's idea of multi-tasking was reading the paper while watching TV? ROFLMAO! So true . . . . Office day today. Lovely! I am also going to go out and get an ice cream maker at Bed, Bath & Beyond with my 20% off coupon. Can't remember who, but Betty or Char posted a premium LC vanilla ice cream recipe on the cooking forum. Going to make that with *another* Aunt Ruth's for our family get-together Sunday.

| Kim, let me add my thoughts to all the encouragement here. Sounds like there's not much you can do but stand by. Judy, our domestic arrangement is also non-traditional. At the age of 46, with my strenuous encouragement, my DH quit a job that didn't suit him at all and was making him sick. The job he took up was taking care of me, and we've both enjoyed that a great deal ever since--more than 25 years. I kept laundry, but he does all the meal planning, shopping, cooking and kitchen clean-up (the job I most wanted to get rid of!) He's an avid student of history, and a collector of various things of considerable intrinsic value, which are an investment in my/our future. And he gets to drive his dream car, an S-type Jaguar. Alida, I've been reading bits of your life story on other posts in the general forum. What an unexpected reversal! I can hardly believe the amount of physical work you do. Still, you sound so upbeat and satisfied with life, I can't help thinking that attitude is everything. The play now at the Kansas City Rep called "The Voysey Inheritance" is about an embezzling trustee. An excellent performance, but probably not a play you'd enjoy. Now back to my assignment. "Avoidance activities" like chatting online, are a writer's favorite distraction. |

| Teel: You asked if I just sit and enjoy the garden? I was thinking just that on Tuesday night after cutting the grass. Then I thought I would make a cup of tea and sit down and just relax. Then hubby walked in the door and I had supper to put on the table and all the rest that goes with it. I will sit and enjoy soon I hope! Kim: How is hubby? I've been thinkin of ya!! We had another ball game in town last night so I ended up at WalMart. Bought another 6 empty hanging baskets so that means another trip to the nursery. Awww! lol Hubby was there so it's all his fault. Actually, I think he's enjoying how nice the yard is looking...and it's still so early in the year. Wait until all my lilies are in bloom. My grandkids came to watch Poppa play ball last night. Just priceless. Kaedyn who is 2 is in love with his Poppa. His face just lights up when he sees him. He was yelling for him to run and telling everyone "good game". Just like all little boys, he has the longest eyelashes and deep black eyes. He's gonna break a few hearts all right, but last night he had everyone eating out of his hands. Micayla is a girly girl who sat nicely and cheered. Nolyn who is 1 today, just cried through the whole game. lol We stole Micayla and took her shopping with us after the game. It was hilarious. I'd forgotten just what information a little one is only too willing to tell us even when we don't ask. I'm sure some of it is made up too. She told us that sometimes Mommy forgets to feed her supper so she was hungry. I'm sure she forgot that I was sitting there while she ate chicken and chips at the game. lol Kids are so funny. She did end up getting a cheeseburger out of it though so she's pretty smart too. I guess my daughter figured out that I wasn't coming across with any money this time, so she called me at work this morning like nothing had happened. I don't know why she figured I should give up my paycheck for her while she blows hers. Another gorgeous warm day here. Guess that means I have to cut the grass tonight. Better get it done before Survivor starts. I have the night to myself, hubby goes to darts, so I enjoy that. Have a good day all.

| TB, WTG on the quick sale! My daughter had to do the same letter writting thing to acquire a house in the LA area. I had never heard of such practice. They were up against about 10 other couples wanting that same little house! Simply astonishing to me. Alida, my goodness...you DO work hard! You made me tired just reading about your day at work Bren, Ilse, Barb and Donna...hi! ![]() This is gonna be short and sweet. I am zapped of all energy this evening. For the last few days I've had severe back pain and lower pelvic and bladder pain. The worst case scenario was going through my mind...back surgery which I want to avoid for ever how long I can avoid it. Well, today when I was chatting with my Gyn Dr. she said, let's just run a UA and make sure you don't have a bladder infection. Well...low and behold...I do! Now, you may say I sound happy about this, (I'm not, believe me), but it's a far more easier thing *to fix* than what I was afraid it could be. So...mysterious ways... I know, that was probably more than you wanted to know, eh? Alrighty then, I'm just gonna take my tired self to the shower and try and get to bed early tonight. Have a good evening, everyone. Shell

| Evening, guys.... TB, I'm really glad you got an offer you could accept, even if it wasn't everything you'd hoped. That was still fast, and I know all your work paid off. We did the 2 Men and a Truck route, too. There was at the time we moved a group of area firefighters who had formed a moving company for their off days. They did a great job moving the heaviest furniture and applicances in only about 3 hours. Everything we could pack and move, we did, with a borrowed panel van. What an adventure you are on, eh? I guess I've never heard of writing a letter, either. Whew, sort of like adopting a baby...... Barb, Judy, I do wish I'd had the opportunity to have a DH at home when I was working. Somebody to do the cooking and cleaning would have been oh, so delicious! The Miata sounds fun! Like Kim, I have a "practical" SUV (??). Granted it's great in the snow, but I feel like I'm driving a bus. Had a great little WV bug convertible when I was young and carefree--LOL! It was my favorite car! Kim, still concerned about you and DH. I know he has an appoinment, but has he been to a teaching hospital where they'd have a larger cardiac center? Shelley, ouch, ouch, ouch. Hope the meds kick in very, very soon! Donna, what a cute story about your granddaughter! I'm sure it's evenings like those that make some of the difficulties with your DIL all worth the effort of hanging in there. Your grandkids sounds so precious. It's so lovely to hear how proud your grandson is of his Poppa Alida, sounds like a really, really tough job yesterday. Sure hope all the difficulties are factored in your price. And LOL Alida, I giv you credit--I might be able to handle a fish, but I'd have to draw the line at a bear!!! Judy, glad plans are firming for the wedding. It does sound like a wonderful reason for a vacation, and I do hope your DH can get some quality fishing time in. How much more school? Another cold day here, for pete's sake. Ilse was quite right on the weather. Don't know where the day went--well, actually I completed a piece for a customer and TAA-DAA made ~myself~ a pair of earrings. I've been feeling quite bling deprived, LOL! I was asked today to donate a piece to our local Hospice's annual duck race fundraiser later this summer, too, so I want to think of something special....

| BC --glad you came by even if you didn't have anything to say. Shelly -- You are right, a bladder infection is was superior to any kind of surgery. Take your pills and drink lots of water. Donna -- What fun to have the grandkids at the ballgame cheering for Grandpa. Pretty soon he'll be sitting in the stands cheering for them. Alida -- Are you superwoman? I hope you got paid adequately for that job. Now Teel----- I am totally amazed at the rapid progress on selling the house and then searching for another. I have never heard of holding all the bids until one day, opening them and then making a decision, and I darn sure never heard of writing a letter asking for the offer to be accepted. Obviously your housing market is way different than ours. Our housing market is fairly good right now, but the purchase is more of a back and forth negotiation. The sellers asks for something too high and then contracts go back and forth until the terms are either dropped or agreed on. DS ended up having to pay the asking price for the house he bought. In Dallas that's not unusual. Here, it would be. A fast sell here is a contract after a couple of months. DH is probably asleep by now....... and I can go see what TIVO has for me tonight. Can you tell we have different tastes in programing?? |

| Judy, I am amazed at the real estate practices today, too. I had no idea - it's been over 20 years since we paid any attention. It used to be the way you described here, too. With the DOT.COM boom, every thing changed. DOT.COMmers had lots of money, but the housing market was very tight. It was not unheard of for a frustrated buyer to bid up a house to twice the asking price in good neighborhoods with good schools. With the DOT.COM bust, the housing market settled down; but it stayed robust. With the big losses in the stock market, people and investors apparently wanted to put their money into real estate. So, despite a few years of a weaker economy, it is still a pretty good sellers market. I guess it balances out a bit during the summer when more homes come on the market. Anyway, the sellers of the place we want countered our offer, asking for a little more money. They also countered the other offer, which is another new thing I didn't know about - multiple counter offers. If both buyers accept the counter conditions, the sellers choose the one they like best. Our broker told us it used to be that with multiple counters, the first responder got the house, but that's changed now, too. Anyway, after much teeth gnashing and nailbiting, we decided to agree to the counter. We figured we'd end up paying a lot of extra expenses if we don't get it anyway - in double moving costs, storage fees, and perhaps rent on a month-to-month apartment. So, why not just think of it as "sunk" money and throw it in the pot? If the sellers don't take our counter... se la vie. Alida, I bet with the exercise you get in your line of work, you have great upper arms with good muscle definition. It sounds pretty arduous, in fact. But, isn't it great to have a profession that keeps you active? Well, dinner's ready, so I'll sign off for now.

| TB, LOL about my arms! Just yesterday I went shopping for some new Polo shirts which I wear for work. NO POLOS! They are not "in" this year. And the ones I did find are all skinny with very short sleeves. And the skin just above my elbows sort of "hangs" around and doesn't do very much except look ugly. So I still need to do some sort of exercise for that. As for how much I made on that job -- $600 profit. Not bad for 4 hours of work. Also had never heard of writing a letter about how much you want a house! JUST like adopting a baby! Stepson adopted two! Good luck with the counter-offer. Barb, reversal of fortune sucks. But it's what dealt so I deal with it! Shelley, I am so glad it was just a bladder infection! That's just some pills and lots of water . . . . Donna, your day at the game sounded wonderful! What fun to have the grandchildren around to spoil at your will! Kim, how's your husband doing today? Hope I covered all the bases! I really should visit here PM, too. Regular residential job today close to home. Hooray! Have a wonderful Friday!

| Hey everyone! Lots I need to do today, but while my hair is air drying a bit I thought I'd stop by. TB, glad you were in a position to counteroffer and hope all comes through. It would all be way too much excitement for me. I have a friend in Seattle who is house shopping, too, and she describes the market there in much the same way..... Alida, LOL, you'd think a simple polo would never go out of style. Although you might try Landsend.com. They tend to cover the basics pretty well. Glad you'd have an easier job today. For me a mixed bag of work, workout, paperwork----(does that sound like "work"??) See you later! Oh, and DF is back home from his latest trip. Anyone want to send me a little extra patience?

| Our housing market here is crazy right now. Houses are put on the market and sold within 2 days. And it's like you remember from years ago Teel, you put in a bid and the owner counter offers. I've never heard of writing letters. Maybe it's going to bring back the lost art of letter writing? My son has his home up for sale and is very impatient with the realtor. I could tell him it's not going to sell, but then I'd be in trouble. He's asking way too much money for a modular home. It's on a huge lot but it backs right on the Trans Canada Highway. Way too noisy. They want to move to Alberta which would be a one way 9 hour drive for us.....so, I'm praying it won't sell. Not nice I know, but I want my grandkids close. Judy: I heard on the news this morning there were 10 twisters in Texas yesterday along with hail the size of softballs. I thought of you right away....not near you was it? I think maybe I should send some of our gorgeous weather down to some of you. We have another blue blue sky this morning and it's getting hot already. They are calling for a little rain this weekend and it would be a blessing. There has already been a wildfire in this season and the forestry dept. is getting worried. This area is mostly sagebrush and so dry it goes up so fast. Last year was so terrible for fires...whole areas just wiped out. We were on alert for awhile and that was just too scary. But, while I can, I'm enjoying the weather. Getting a nice tan too. Have to bring the motorhome this weekend for a thorough cleaning. Next weekend being a long weekend, we have a baseball tournament out of town. So, that means stocking it up with food and getting beds made and towels etc., set out. It's kind of like getting a house ready that you just moved into. We have so much fun with all the couples we play ball with. Actually the guys are all getting older and the running is getting harder...but they still take top honours in the beer garden! lol Lots of work to do today, so I'd better get busy. I have lots of hanging baskets to make this weekend. Good thing part of the patio is under cover. Have a great weekend everyone!

| Hi Not too much is happening today. One of the teachers I work with is out today. One of her classes got out of line. I ended up getting one of the deans to help. I had lunch afterward. I wanted "comfort" (don't know why something warm and greasy is "comfort" food. I ended up getting a gyros salad-no dressing. They were generous witht the meat. I tried to check how LC gyros meat is, but I'm not sure if I read it right. (and it's not an item listed on the LC counter on this site.) I feel pretty good about my choice, considering I was wanting fries and such. Well, the bell is about to ring! Have a great weekend.

| Kim, glad to hear that moon is feeling somewhat better. I hope the new doctors have some new ideas. OK guys, I've made some changes. First I changed my profile to say that I was just from Texas, and no longer from East Texas. Once again something outrageous happened near here that made national news. I'm ashamed to say that I live anywhere near all the stupidity that has happened this year. Donna, the storms last night were in the Lubbock area --- West Texas. Actually some of the worst of them were less than 20 miles of where I grew up and went to high school. According to my dad, our little home town managed to escape having one of the tornados touch down. Change number two is that I started a journal for myself. It is my own tracking thread. I have determined that I was most successful when I used Fitday and then put the numbers out there everyday. I started out this week at 143.5. That really was a panic number. I had exceeded 5 pounds above goal. So far it has been one of the best things that I have done in a long time. I tracked with Fitday and put up the numbers everyday. This week alone I have lost 2 pounds (OK, water I'm sure, but hey, I'll take it). This morning I saw 141.5. I really want to get back to 138 and preferably 135 by wedding time. I'm going to have to carefully watch it to do so, but I feel like I'm getting back in control and on the right track. Last news of the day........ DH suggested and I whole heartedly agree that since we are going to Jackson Hole anyway we should take extra time and do some sight seeing. We haven't taken a real vacation in at least 8 years. Even though it is about 1500 miles from here, we are considering driving so that we can sight see through parts of the US that neither of us have seen since we were children. (I'm so glad he brought the idea up. I had been thinking about it all along. Now, since it's "his" idea, it's even more likely to work out.) I'm pumped! |
