Good evening all
Just a quickie note from me for the day. I am feeling better...still not up to a 3 minute mile by any means...but better.

Judy, a road trip!! Kewl! We used to fly to our destinations alot, but then one year we decided to drive, and it turned out to be really fun. So, we look forward to hitting the road in the fall when we vacation.

Donna, you are making me want a motorhome. We've discussed it very seriously a few times, but then we sort of come back to the reality of how often we would get to use it. <sigh> Maybe someday...

Brenda, WOOHOO for you girl on making yourself a little bling bling You sound like me; when I'm sewing for a craft show or a special order, I think...hummm, I want one like this! And the next thing I know...there goes my profit

Kim, still sending good thoughts for your hubby to feel better soon.

Well, I need to go finish my last bottle of water for the day. I have had 12 cups today!
Between that and the antibiotics, that should wash away the little germies!

Later, ladies

Shelley

Oh Shelly, ..... you sew! Me too. Only not for profit. Most of my sewing now seems to be alterations for myself or DD. And, to tell the truth, I don't mind doing them. It's something that I can complete in one sitting. It's been almost a years since I did anything for myself "from scratch".

Oh, Judy - you and DH are really overdue for a vacation together and Jackson Hole makes a perfect excuse to do that. DH and I rarely get away for more than 3 or 4 days at a time, so I know how it goes. Losing 2 lbs in a week is great! And, as I said earlier this month, 2 or 3 lbs of water weight take up as much room as fat - so losing the water makes a big difference in how we look and feel.

For my part, my eating has been better (since the late night cookie fiasco). I've missed several meals, but kept lots of cut-up veggies and other LC fingerfood around. Between the missed meals and anxiety over the real estate matters, my weight is back down from Monday's high.

Oh!! We got word this afternoon that the townhouse sellers accepted our offer!!!

We couldn't offer as much money, but it we could offer much fewer contingencies. I don't know how true it might be, but the realtor said she thought my "letter" helped, as the other party didn't write a personal note. That just seems so strange to me.

Alida, I have that loose skin above the elbow, too. It's lessened in the last two years, but I'm not thinking it will ever go away completely.

Shelley - hope you are doing better really soon. Man, that must be a doozy of a UTI, so take good care of it.

BC, you have my good thoughts and vibes for patience to share your home again, LOL. I know, I know - it can seem almost intrusive when a family member resturns home after an absence!

Ilse, I think gyro meat is basically lamb, so I think your choice was a good one. Ummm.... gyro salad sounds very tasty, in fact.

DH, just got home, so I gotta go - may come back and post more later if I get a chance.

Happy Saturday everyone! Having family over tomorrow to celebrate assorted birthdays and Mother's Day (they were out of town last weekend) so today's the day for cleaning. Step son is allergic to cats and I have two. So massive vacuuming is in order. I wish I could get to a point in my life when having someone over doesn't send me into a cleaning frenzy.

Oh TB, you got the house!!! How fantastic!!! I can't wait to hear and see (you must take photos!) how you will decorate this one!

Judy, eight years since your last vacation? Sounds like us . . . but we did finally take one last February. I love driving! Although it does take longer, it just seems to be less hassle. Wyoming is beautiful country. You will have such a wonderful time! And congrats on losing! Sometimes it's hard to get back to the basics, but you seem to have it figured out!

Shelley, glad you have that bug under control. Wish I could sew like you and Judy. You mentioned you sell the things you sew. What sort of things do you make?

Kim -- <<hugs>> to you. I am saying a prayer for your husband.

Brenda, I take it your father lives with you? It must be hard. Is he easy to get along with? During my teen years my mother's mother moved in with us. I look back on those years and realize I was not as kind as I should have been. She was always trying to be helpful and would "clean" my room. "Moothherrrr!" I would yell. "Keep her out of my room!" Wish I could have those years back . . .

Gotta get cracking. While it's not exactly "summer" fare, I am making foods I love for the dinner tomorrow . . . Pulled Pork in crock pot, "Just Like Stuffed Baked Potatoes" (cauli, cheddar, bacon, onions, cream cheese), string beans, salad and for dessert, what else but ANOTHER Aunt Ruth's with some LC Premium Vanilla ice cream I will make with my new Cuisinart Ice Cream maker. FUN.

Woohoo, TB!!! That's faaaaantastic. I know you really liked the townhouse (it sounded great to me, too) so I'm delighted it will be yours. Any tentative closing dates yet??

I can't think of the last actual vacation DH and I took together. In fact, I don't know that we've ever had anything longer than a weekend that wasn't incorporated around visiting someone's parents, and nothing at all together since 1997. DH uses most of his vacation flying to FL several times a year to check on his DM, do maintenance around her place, make sure she's got her meds, etc. At least he gets some sunshine out of the deal and de-stresses a little. I haven't gone since my Mom died, since I won't kennel the dogs and my Dad isn't trustworthy to take care of them. My MIL and I have a great relationship in spite of that and usually talk at least once a week.

Alida, speaking of Fathers, yes my parents moved in with us in 1989. We bought our current home especially because it had room for us to build a nice "in-law" arrangement which affords almost enough privacy for everyone.. My Mom, who I dearly loved, passed away in 1998. I wish I could say my relationship with my Dad was a good one, but it's unfortunately stressful, so you will hear me vent about him from time to time. While I love him, I don't respect him (for a number of reasons)and have learned that I can't trust him either. Too bad for both of us. One of these days, DH and I want to travel again, but it will probably be a while.

Alida, your menu sounds wonderful!! Too bad I'm not related!

Judy, yes Shelley sews! Shell, share some of your appliqued pretties again!

Well, I gotta get cracking, too. You know I talk a lot about how I don't cook (and I really don't cook much or well) but today I'm making batches of dog food for my senior pup. Baked cod, sweet and white potatoes, green beens, zucchini) LOL, DH should be so lucky!

Good morning everyone!
I am feeling much better today...don't know if it's because it's Saturday, or the abxs are really working now...probably a little of both. Thanks everyone for the sympathy

Teel, WTG on landing your new digs! Hope your closing and moving go smoothly. As much as we would like a place out in the country, the thought of moving again makes me cringe. But, if the right *deal* came along, I think I could force myself...LOL.

Alida, I do applique work and make alot of my own scrubs I wear to work( I work in pre-op and surgery). I do sweatshirts, tees, and I especially love doing work on denim shirts, jumpers, and scrubs. So I don't sew like Judy, but I've done more sewing in last few years than I ever have. I participate in the craft shows if I have enough things made up, but since I've gone back to work on a full time basis, my sewing time has greatly diminished :( I'll post a pic or 2...I just do it mostly for fun but making a few pennies to buy fabrics and shirts keeps me sewing

Judy...you rock, lady! Doing alterations would take me forever; I do minor things like hemming and such, but nothing major like your project for the prom dress.

Donna, Bren, Ilse...hi!

Well....got to get myself moving in the direction of the clothes dryer...it's dinging its silly little bell at me

Default Saturday morning

Shelley, that's charming work with the applique. I admire people with the talent for beautiful handiwork--and the joy of doing it.

Teel, congrats on landing your townhouse! You worked for it!

Speaking of travels, DH and I are planning our trip in 2006 (October) to New Zealand. Friends there are anticipating our arrival. I'm planning a stopover in Hawaii on the way back. DH is a WW II historian, and needs to see Pearl Harbor.

My jeans have been feeling looser lately. I think I'm still dropping fat. Must be the running. I'm down two lbs. this week. My maintenance plan is obviously not working!

Alida, thanks for the reminder about the cauliflower concoction. Time to make some!

Barb - maybe you can help me, or perhaps your DH can give me some advice. I have my father's WWI letters to his mother. He was a pilot in the Pacific theater. For the most part, the letters give a picture of day-to-day routine on some remote island camps.

I am hoping to pass them along to an appropriate historical repository or rememberance group. Would he know of leads for me?

Oh, Shelley, you are so talented! The pictures were great! I would imagine this work would be a great de-stressor (stresser??). I'll bet your scrubs are the talk of the hospital. Glad you are feeling better!

Brenda, your living arrangements must be tough. <<Hugs>> to you. It must be particularly hard if you do not trust him . . . even to take care of your dogs. And I know what you mean about not wanting to kennel them. When I had a Lab, I always had a dog sitter for the times when we traveled (the good old days!)

Hey Barb! Congratulations on flunking maintenance, LOL! In addition to everything else, you are running, too? Wow. I really admire you. I sorta had an epiphany this AM. Yesterday I was running around all day cleaning. Almost forgot to eat. Had your flax cereal for a late breakfast then forgot lunch so had an Atkins Bar around 4 with tea. Regular dinner and some raspberries with whipped cream around 8. Down TWO pounds this am so back to 126. Still 1 pound shy of goal. So this tells me that I need more exercise!!! Duh. You would think I would "get it" by now!

I have never been to the New Zealand neck of the woods, but I know it is beautiful country. You will have such a wonderful vacation! I have been to Hawaii a number of times. Husband Bob and I have some great memories. That was back when I actually played golf.

TB, how wonderful that you have such a remembrance of your Father. I know those types of letters do have historical value. I am sure there must be a good home for them. I know here in KC we have a WWI Memorial with a museum. I have never been there, but perhaps Barb has?

Had an upsetting call last night from a film customer I did on Friday. I guess my assistant left some of the small "break-away" blades from our knives on the floor and her son put one in his mouth and cut his tongue. She took him to the emergency room but she says he's OK. I feel bad because I should have checked the floor areas. I usually do. Husband Bob will call her husband today. We will probably refund their money. Sigh. But it's the strangest thing. She was a very odd person. Very nervous and talkative. I am not sure of her son's age, but he was big enough to start climbing a step stool I had out. WHY do I have a niggling feeling this is a set-up? Would a 3 or 4 year old actually put a piece of a knife the size of a small fingernail in his mouth???? I've never had kids so I have no feel for these things. Sigh. Sigh. Sigh.

Happy Sunday!

Good morning!
Hope everyone is having a good weekend.
Thanks, ladies for taking a look at my handi-work. It is fun to just start a project, crank up the volume on the radio, and sew *me little fingers off* LOL. I forgot to say, on the little school house cardigan(made from a sweatshirt, by the way), that was my own design; I made it for my little grandson's pre school teacher. My daughter wanted to give her a special gift as she was such a wonderful teacher and Isaijah just loved her. Sometimes I get a design in my head and can draw it up and modify other pieces from patterns, and sometimes I just use a pattern I buy. The other pics were shirts and cardigans made from a pattern. Just love doing it, and yes for the most part, it does *de-stress* me

Alida, OYE!...that does sound suspect, doesn't it? I don't know, depending on the discipline the child has had, whether a 3 or 4 yr old would know not to put a foreign object in their mouth....very curious. Hopefully, that will be the end of it and they won't be *ugly* about things at a later date. Keeping my fingers crossed for ya!

TB, I agree, what a neat rememberance from your dad. When my grandmother passed away years ago, and we were cleaning out her house, we came across some letters from her only son from the 1940's. I believe it was called *v-mail*. It had a copy that was retained by the navy so they could read what was being written and sent home by the sailors. Since my uncle couldn't disclose his location to his family, all he could say to them in the letters was basically that he was doing fine, not to worry, etc.
And now to think, some of the armed forces can just hop onto the internet, and contact home in a matter of seconds...of course, provided it's all safe, and available...amazing!

Barb, how cool will that be to go to NZ??? Wowzers! I think we have some members that post here on LCE that live there...can't remember who at the moment, but maybe you already know this? Anyway, I bet you have a grand time...just take tons of pics to show us!

Well....got to get going. Grocery shopping this morning as I didn't get it done yesterday. I helped DH wash 2 vehicles yesterday. We still have one more to do today, so I want to get the groceries out of the way, and get my walk in before we get started on his truck.

I'll be back later....

Default Sunday morning

Alida, I'm sorry about the customer incident. But even without having children, I can tell you that toddlers will put ANYTHING in their mouths. This could be an important learning experience.

Teel, I'm assuming you meant WW TWO not one. I'll check with the DH. If you did mean WWOne, Alida is right. There's a significant WWI memorial in Kansas City--the only one in the US as a matter of fact. It has a superb museum collection, not all of which is on display. The Liberty Memorial is close to where I work, and I walk up there often. Beautiful views--especially from the top of the memorial tower. In any event, your letters are a treasure, so hang onto them.

It's a beautiful day in KC, so I hope to get out and play in it.

You are right, Barb - I meant WWII.

I don't want to hang on to the letters. I don't feel as though I'm a very good custodian (they are still stuffed on end in the shoe box grandma put them into), and have been in my garage for 21 years. I've read only a few of them; I think I would like to read them all once then pass them on. Dad was an only child. I don't have children, nor did my siblings, so there is no family on that side to pass them down.

Alida, I do have my grandfather's photo album from WWI (somewhere - I should come across it while I'm packing). GDF was too old to be a regular soldier, so he enlisted as an ambulance driver. It seems that soldiers had postcards made up and traded them with each other. The album contains postcards, often with brief notes, from other soldiers. There are also a few postcards of some Russian soldiers found lynched in a forest, which seems like a very macabe thing to include in the album. Now, that really should go to a museum I think; although I do have family on that side who might appreciate it.

My husband just talked to the Dad of the child who cut his tongue. Of course, he was upset, but DH was very good with him on the phone. Promised to tint the rest of their house (it's a small house, LOL) for film cost. Hope it ends there. He (the husband) thought we were some big-shot outfit with tons of employees! My husband quickly dispelled that notion. We are, essentially, a Mom and Pop Shop. But we will change our blade policy and put all blades in a pill bottle that we will have to have in our aprons, while on the job site. This will be a real PITA, but necessary.

Whew! Hope that one is over. About five years ago I did get a call from another customer's husband practically accusing me of stealing his wife's diamond necklace. Well now, say a diamond necklace to me and I immediately think of something that runs 10 grand and up. I asked him to describe the necklace. Ended up being a little tiny thing. Anywho, his call was on a Friday. On Monday he called to say he found it. That was another Whew! I was very fortunate to have received from my DH several "important" diamond pieces way back when. I still have them. Thank goodness I was not forced to sell them. They make a good mini insurance policy. I was so tempted to tell this guy I wouldn't wear his wife's necklace walking the dog, but I bit my tongue.

Wow am I being cranky or what? But it is a Happy Sunday!

Alida, whew. I hope that will be the end of the problem with that customer. They could be sincere people, but unfortunately these days, you never know.

TB, those must be interesting letters to a collector. My only thought is that the division your father served in still may be an active one and have a headquarters somewhere. They might be interested for their own historical records, or might know of an organization who is. For example, the 8th Air Force has a volunteer historical society, so other units may also. The 82nd Airborne at Ft. Bragg also has quite a large collection of memorabilia.
