Not really, TB, although you might get a couple of the strains in kefir to be fruitful and multiply that way for a short time. A few companies sell a powdered starter, but even they admit you can only get a few batches from it, and I can't imagine how they could include all the varieties of organisms--It also ends up not being cost effective. However, it might be interesting as an experiment to see if you enjoy keeping kefir around.
