| I did so much housework yesterday that I figured I could just go straight outside as soon as the caffine woke me up this morning. Doesn't it figure that I woke up to rain. So, I had a lc muffin while watching Trading Spaces and Clean Sweep. Still raining. So, I rounded up all the bottles for recycling, put the dogs in the car and headed out to do my errands. By the time I was finished my grocery shopping, the rain had stopped and the sun was trying to peek out. A half hour later I was sitting outside watching everything dry up while I ate my salad. I did end up putting in a good couple of hours on the gardens. They are starting to shape up and I'm starting to panic. Only 14 more days until the party. I ordered the cake this morning and stopped at the dollar store for banners and candles. I still haven't heard from the ladys hubby so I know how many people are coming. Men! Once he tells me I have to take a run to town to buy veggie burgers (they are vegetarian) and a gift for her. Time is running away so fast!! It's been such a busy weekend here in Canada. I've deliberately not had the radio on cause I don't want to hear about the accidents that always happen on this long weekend. We ran out of regular fuel at our store and have to price the premium fuel for the lower price. It's that, or lose all the customers that would have gone inside and bought groceries. Hubby had to stand in the parking lot and explain to everyone what was happening. No wonder he ended up with a headache last night. It was so hot yesterday, and his (ahm..) bald head got a little burned. The fun of owning your own business. I just stayed home and did government forms for him. Judy: Good to have you back. Plan on staying home for a bit or has the travel bug hit you this time. Peg: I've got two of the Leslie Sansone tapes and I love them. They are low impact but you're sweatin' by the time you're finished. I haven't done them since I had my leg done, but I want to get back at them. Just have to find some time now. Brenda: I think my dogs are hoping it was a work day. They are exhausted. Every time I go from room to room, they get up and follow me. Probably think I'm going to try to sneak out on them. We've had our walk already ( looked like rain an hour ago), so I thought if I got on the computer they might have a sleep and it's working. Teel: Hope all went well with the move. Boy, are you going to have some posts to read to get caught up. lol Almost time to figure out something for supper, so have a great day everyone.

| Thanks for all the wallpaper tips! So far, the soffit areas came off easily. The chair rail is history but the wallpaper below the chair rail is proving to be difficult. I'll try the scorer/fabric softener idea today. I am finding the wallpaper is the original, so probably 23 years old. Plus, some of the wallboard underneath was never "mudded" -- it's just the original wall board, sorta brownish in color, not like the newer wallboards. Plus there's the woodwork stain fom where the painter stained all the woodwork when the house was built. The wallpaper is just on the soffits and below the chair rail. BUT there's also a border next to the ceiling on the painted walls above the chair rail. Since those walls have been painted several times, there's a definite "bump" from the layers of paint when I remove the border. I am thinking I may have to have someone do a skim coat of mud over the whole area, to smooth out these bumps and some of the gouges in the wallboard. Since I just want to paint, I need a nice smooth surface. Ack. Was hoping the whole thing could be a cheap DIY project! Maybe I'll learn how to apply mud! Peg: Yes, Barb sure is the exercise guru in the bunch! I have been thinking about those WATP tapes . . . let me know how you like it. Donna, I do hope your husband feels better soon. Ouch on the gas . . . and you are one busy lady while you have a cold! Judy, at least your alternator had the decency to wait until you got home. One time, mine did not. Good idea about workshops. More money is always good! Ilse, we'll see WOTW today. I'm looking forward to getting out of the house! Gotta order the tickets on line . . . . as for the boxes, sounds like you found a good source. My source was Ace Hardware. I just said Nuts! and bought new boxes. They are all folded flat now in the attic waiting for the next move, for which I hope I die first. Shelley, I love the new look! Thank you for posting pictures. You may be the ~queen~ of removing wallpaper, but I am the ~queen~ of taupe! Your bedroom and bath look very peaceful and elegant! Love that bed, too. It's a stunner. | Good morning all, I did a nice long post last evening, and then I clicked to post it and my computer hiccuped and it got lost :( Darn it! Anyway, got a few things accomplished yesterday. Went to the mall to JCPenney and got some lucious towels in cream and mocha(linen they call it), a lid cover and contour rug, and a very textured lush terry bathmat(hate to step out of the shower on something furry...aacckk). Then buzzed around to the other side of the mall and went to Dillards to the Clinique counter. On the way to the car, I fell victim to the sale in the kid's department...LOL. Scored 5 pair of shorts and 5 tees for the grandson to start school with. Thankfully, he's not as picky as our daughter was at that age; so it's kind of fun shopping for a little boy this time around. Anyhoo, got all those towels laundered and put away, so that little chore is out of the way. Peg, have you started painting yet? Alida, good luck on your project. Sounds like you are getting alot accomplished. Instead of putting on a smooth coat of mud, have you thought about texturing? That's what I did in our bath where most of the wall paper was removed, except for the one accent wall that I had repapered. I'll see if I can find a good pic of my texture job and post it. It was the first time I had ever done anything like that, but it went very fast and was even fun!! Bren, have you got to drive YOUR new car yet??? Hope so! Judy, I know what you mean on the food and meeting thing. I have gone to many continuing education workshops, and there is always a big food spread for breakfast, breaks, and lunch. And you know what? There is always women who are munching on 2 muffins, a plateful of fruit, and drinking coffee with 10 packets of real sugar, and they look like they weigh 90 lbs. soaking wet! It's just not fair...but we gotta play the hand we were dealt...aarrgghh Ilse, Bet you are looking forward to your meeting with your builder. Donna, I bet your garden will be lovely for your party. Even if some of the blooms are gone, you'll have all kinds of lush greenery, which will still be nice. Don't worry...be happy... Teel, hope you find your mouse...heck, I hope you find your whole computer so you can check in and tell us your moving story...I bet there is a story waiting to be told Hope you and yours and the kitties did well. Well, i need to finish the grocery list and get my booty moving in that direction. Otherwise, I've not got anything planned for the day except maybe a little light housekeeping and tidying up. Later... Shelley

| Good Sunday morning to you! Saturday, we went to see the new house. They had the garage door put on it. The other houses nearby, all new, do not have their garage doors yet. We stopped for lunch. Then, we went to pick up our grandson and take him to see "The Adventures of Shark-Boy and Lava-Girl". The story line reminded me of "The Never-Ending Story". I thought the 3-D effects weren't very good, but our grandson enjoyed the movie. While we were out with him, my DD had a chance to get the house picked up, as our DSIL was supposed to be returning from a family funeral late last night. She enjoyed the alone time, as the baby was taking a nap. Afterward, we stopped at a outlet mall, where I found the grabber thing, in a kitchen supply store. It will help with the dumpster diving for boxes. We also stopped at Borders (didn't get anything there) and Cost Plus World Market. I got Torani SF Lime and Watermelon syrups to make snow cones with my ice shaver. It came with a free bottle of sparkling water to make Italian sodas. I hope you are having a great weekend!

| Just dropped in after purchasing movie tickets on-line . . . . Shelley, GREAT idea about the texturing! But you still used the mud to do the texture prior to painting, correct? If not mud, what?? Ilse, I'll bet that grabber thing will see lots of use. I need one . . . not for picking through "trash" but because I'm vertically challenged . . . .

| Alida, Yes, mud or officially it's called joint compound. Bought it at Lowes...in a bucket with a green lid. It definitely covers any imperfections in the wall after paper removal. Here's what I did. Add a little water, say 1/2 - 3/4 cup to the mud, and stir.(I used an old plastic ice cream spade). It should be about the consistency of buttercream frosting. Then I used the ic spade and put a blob on a 6 in putty knife and started my pattern. You can texture as heavy or light as you want. Just play around and see what you like best. Mine was mostly just little arcs, kinda reminds me of stucco. You can even buy special tools that will lay down a pattern if you want. Also you can buy drywall stencils, and stencil on your mud; but I didn't have the time for that. Anyway I just wanted the stucco-ish look. Let your walls dry for 24 hrs, then prime with a good coat of primer, and let dry another8-12 hrs, or overnite, then paint. The mud covers the stain overspray, which I had a LOT of. I'm very happy with my little *experimental project*...LOL. Good luck...looks like you've got a good start. Is the wallpaper coming off pretty good? Shelley

| Who-boy, Alida. Seeing a picture of your project sure brought back some memories, although your project is going well..... My very first house, in Rochester, NY was purchased from the original owner and was almost 60 years old (the house, that is, LOL) It had three layers of wallpaper and two coats of paint--one layer in between the top two layers of wallpaper and one on top of everything. It honestly took me a year to get the paper off the whole house and repaint and paper. On the areas I ended up painting, I filled in and then sanded the gouges and cracks with a mixture of joint compound and plaster of paris, then added a "sand texture" product to the paint. It added a light texture which hid the vast majority of the imperfections I couldn't otherwise get out. I was very happy with the way it came out, but sold the house and divorced that DH immediately after I finished the job..... Donna, rotten that you ran out of regular gas, but I can understand not wanting to lose the grocery business. I'm sure your DH is really tired by now. When will you get another tanker?.......One of my furgirls follows me around just like yours, too. She really does think it's part of her "job." The youngest one, however, just wants to know if I'm going to the kitchen Shell, how nice that you found matching towels and some cute clothes for DGS, too Peg, hope your "work day" today is going well. Ilse, nice to hear the house is progessing. Judy, so glad you weren't stranded in this heat. Oh, I can imagine the challenge of having wonderful food presented day after day. I'm really good at the occasional challenge, but it gets difficult when it's under your nose all week. The positive thing is that at least you don't have to come down from a carb high, too. I suspect you actually did very well considering the circumstances. Barb, I'm sorry to hear you cracked up the Miata in January, but it's great that it wasn't declared a total loss and you still have it running so well. A truly fun car. Oh yes, I have now driven the car a couple of times. Once even by myself I'm now waiting for ribs to finish. We decided to have the holiday celebration, such as it is, today rather than tomorrow, since there's a slight possibility of rain. Not that it matters, since we're cooking and eating inside, but the guys seemed to think "the sooner the better" when it comes to food. Otherwise, I'm doing paperwork for Dad, which I've (guess what) procrastinated on for a couple of weeks. Everyone else is just vegging out--probably the best idea going for today. Hope I haven't forgotten anyone!!! TB, we know you are busy and incommunicado right now......Have a good one, everyone.

| Hi Gang! We have had the most wonderful weather day since last year!!! In the high 70's, with a slight breeze and sun shining all day. It's been just wonderful. Now, if I can get the neighbors to settle down, we might have really good sleep tonight. Bren: So glad you got to drive "your" car! LOL I know what you mean about eating "in". We are too, though we read the Sunday paper and had lunch on the deck. The lake has been busy today with water skiiers and jet skis. We went out twice. Once after lunch and once for "happy hour." DH is bbqing as we speak. Alida: Is that all you have left?? Looks like you are doing a smashing job. Shelley has given you good advice about the texturing. I have a friend who did that, but used the "tools," including two big spatula looking things with a handle in the middle. She would fill one with material and then dig into it with the other and spread it on the wall. She looked like a pro, but I doubt that I could have done that. Shelley has the idea. Shelley. What a good job you have done with your redecorating. It looks just smashing. Judy: Whatcha doin this weekend? Donna: I hope that you are getting some rest today. So sorry to hear about the gas. I suspect that you gas costs more than ours, but we are doing less driving these days. Up to $2.25 here at the cheap stations. Thinking about the G8 this week. Peace, Peg

| Bren...very pretty! I just love hardwood floors. What a wonderful space you have there. Looks like you also have a lovely view looking out your window too. We put in a hardwood floor in our dinning area last fall; it's amazing the difference it made. I'm thinking we will re-carpet the house next spring. The thought of moving all the furniture makes me cringe, but it needs to be done. I got a lot accomplished today I think. I went grocery shopping and was back home by 0900. Put an eye of round roast beef in the crock pot for dinner. Then I cleaned all the bathrooms, dusted, vacuumed, mopped the kitchen and bathrooms, folded some laundry, changed the bed linens and a few more little housey chores. Just glad to get the big stuff done. I will probably clean the light fixtures and ceiling fans tomorrow if DH is here to help me. The way my work schedule has been, then with the re-decorating, I had put off some of those dreaded spring cleaning chores. But, you know, no little housekeeping fairy came and did it, so it was still waiting for me Well, guess I'll check and see what's on HGTV, and if it's nothing good, I may go to bed early and read for a bit. later... Shell

| Shell, oh do I ever know how it is to have to catch up on the housecleaning! Hope your DH can help you out tomorrow. My DH helps when I vacuum by holding Token....otherwise she chases and tries to bite the "vacuum monster." It has a life of its own, you know, and she doesn't understand why it tries to pull her Mom around the house Thanks, Heather! And welcome to the vets forum! Come on over and enjoy the fire--or better yet, help me paint and pick out some new window treatments, LOL!! That's probably next in the neverending saga.

| Brenda: Love those floors!! That's next on our adjenda. We're putting them in the front room and dining room. I'm leaning towards them in the kitchen too. Do the dogs have a hard time on them. I'm thinking they might be slippery for them when they try to run. My girls get a burst of energy around 10 pm and do a little chasing of each other, but I don't want them breaking a leg or something. Didn't really get much accomplished today. A real ho hum kind of downer day. The weather was dark and dreary looking so it didn't help. I didn't even work outside. I hate it when I get like this. So, I took dd grocery shopping. (that was a $200 mistake), and then I came home and spent the afternoon trying to get caught up on my scrapbooking. I had bought a program by Creating Keepsakes and thought I'd give it a try. Well, after a couple of hours of frustration, I'm not printing off all the tutorials before I try it again. Why can't they just give you a darn book with the program? Found our their might not be as many people as first thought coming to the surprise party. Seems some of the ladies best friends always have a memorial golf tournament on that day for a friends husband who passed away. Now, that could cause problems. I should have a head count by tomorrow. Oh well, even if just her immediate family come it will still be nice. I guess it's the thought that counts. I just hate to think it's going to be one of those things I wish I'd never decided to do in the first place. You know, the one where about two people show up? Shelley: You had the day I had on Friday....cooking, cleaning etc. I also threw a roast in the crock pot today. Boy, do they ever come out tender? I bet I could have eaten half a roast if I didn't stop myself. It was only a couple of hours before we got more gas at the station. So, it wasn't too bad. We'll see what Shell has to say about us downgrading the price of the premium gas to a regular price tomorrow. Someone asked me about the price of our gas. It's $.97.9 a litre right now which would be about $2.94 U.S. a gallon. That's taking into effect the exchange. So, your gas is still cheaper than ours. Back to work tomorrow. Going to be a busy day so I'd better get some sleep. Happy 4th to you all.

| I still have one wall left . . . remove the chair rail and the paper below it. But 2 cabinets are in front of it and have to be moved . . . I just may hold off until next weekend and take a holiday today! Perhaps go to Lowe's and "check out" the texture thing, and the fan I have my eye on! Thanks, Shelley! You inspire me! I had to laugh yesterday. My husband is notorious for having simple projects turn into mega ones. Swear to God, that man is a walking jinx. Most of it's not his fault. Anyway, we have an over head flourescent fixture within one of those big box thingys. I think it's an eye sore. So I look up at it and see just 4 screws. Say to hubby, hey! Let's take this thing down . . . it's just 4 screws. OK. DH starts to unscrew. Can't use power screwdriver . . . too big. He unscrews for ages . . . those suckers were toggle bolts about 4 inches long. This is after I bring up every screwdriver we have in the house for him to choose the "right" one. Of course, ONE screw will not unscrew. Whoops. Two MORE screws are found. Those are toe-nailed at such an angle he couldn't get them going. Finally after much cursing, the thing came down. Took us an hour. After 26 years of marriage I have learned to keep my mouth shut during these projects. Now I have 6 humongous holes in the ceiling that need to be patched. Oh well, ceiling needs to be painted anyway. The whole kitchen looks real ugly now. But anyone who sees it knows that it's a work in progress, so I don't care how long it takes to finish. Wow, Brenda, your floors are gorgeous! Not to mention your furniture, decorating, windows, etc. Absolutely beautiful! Thank you for sharing. And LOL about your first house AND divorcing first husband! Adding sand texture to the paint is another idea I can explore . . . . Donna, whew! so glad you only had to sell premium at regular prices for a few hours. And I am sure you'll have more than two people showing up at your party. Is it possible to change the date so all the golf tournament people can come? Or perhaps that would just be another headache. Peg, how lovely you had some good weather! We had some rain last night but I am not complaining. As long as the sump pump holds, I love the rain! Do you all remember the too-good-to-be-true health insurance I was applying for? Well, I got a letter Saturday saying that I was declined. There is a process I can go through to find out why, and I think I will do it. Actually, I think this company will only insure young people with NO health problems! Luckily I still have my other policy and may have to bite the bullet on the high deductible because I do need several tests that have waited way too long. Pap, mammo, colonoscopy, etc. Gosh, I am rambling today. Thanks for putting up with me. Everyone I did not mention . . . hello! and Happy 4th to all!
