| Alida, those are totally gorgeous! How wonderful to have such a great talent and eye for design. All that detail must have been a lot of work to cut. Do you use one of those hot stencil cutters? Or, do you cut with a razor blade? I bought a hot stencil cutter last spring and never used it because I finally found a good, pre-cut stencil. So I don't know how well the tool works. One of these days... It's funny... Even though I thought I had everything and more in the way of household goods, I'm finding I have a lot to buy. It's just that this house is different, so it wants some different things. Mostly mundane things like different kitchen sink mats, bath mats, cupboard organizers, small vacuum for upstairs, soap holders, toilet brush/holders.... Boring little things, but it adds up fast at the checkout stand. Meanwhile, there's far fewer built-in bookcases and nooks to display stuff... less bric-a-brac, 'nother yard sale needed! Peg, your city has just had all the worst sounding weather this whole year. Boy, it just doesn't seem fair. Good thing you are moving soon. Shelley, what do you think of leaving that extra space open in the bedroom? After clearing out excess furniture to showcase our old house, I found I much preferred the more open and spacious look (aka, 'less is more' - so true). Plus, there were fewer surfaces to dump things on, so the house stayed tidier with less effort. OTOH, maybe you could use the extra storage in chest. Barb, I think the relationship between stress and weight loss/gain is not well understood yet. I was under great stress and had a lot of anxiety last spring, yet I lost weight rather easily (compared to my norm). What with moving, I'm still under a lot of stress, but perhaps with less anxiety - and I'm tending to gain weight ...and fairly rapidly at that. BC is probably still out joy-riding -- I bet we don't hear much from her this weekend, LOL! Judy, the recipe book sounds like a wonderful shower present. It's probably the nicest, most useful thing ddil will receive. I'm sure your son will enjoy having his childhood favorites available. Donna, one of the things I love most about British Columbia is all of the lovingly tended summer flower baskets. Victoria happens to be one of our favorite vacation spots - the flower displays are stunning. I know you are quite busy, but I'd love to see a pic of your flower baskets, if you have time to post one. Ilse, I hope you get a lot of home buyers through this weekend. Do your realtors have preview tour days for your neighborhood? I baked cookies on the tour days and left them out for lookers to snack upon. Can't tell how effective it was, but I hoped it would make the house seem more inviting so the realtors would want to bring more buyers through. I figured it couldn't hurt anyway. Well, back to boxes. Almost a whole week and I have not even finished setting up the kitchen yet. But then, I've moved things around a few times, too, trying for a better arrangement. I should quit being fussy and just move on or I'll never finish.

| One more offering in the drive-by category. I have spent hours and hours on the computer the last few days, trying to get this cook book completed. It's a good thing that I still have a week to do it. Tonight I'm going to Tyler to a pary for fDIL. It's "girls only", so DH is going to visit his parents while I attend. His other job is to be designated driver so that I can enjoy the party and not have to worry about driving home. It's so good to "see" everyone and to read your posts. Alida, you have done a spectacular job on the stencil. Peg, I agree that it is foreign to see the controlled emotion. Teel, it's great to have you back. Everyone else, hi to you too. To everyone.......... Have a good weekend. |

| Hi everyone! Well, the furniture shopping was a bust. They had only a few bombay chests left, and none that would go with my other pieces. They also only had one chair that piqued my interest, but like a dum-dum, I FORGOT to take my color swatches with me! So, guess I will end up driving across the metro to the furniture store where we bought our bed. We'll see. Wowzers, Alida! That is just gorgeous; I can just see that etched in a full glass door. That would also be beautiful on a sliding shower door...like a tropical decor in a master bath...hummmmm....you're giving me ideas for that other bathroom I'm wanting to redo... Judy...woohoo for you girl!!! Enjoy your *girls party night*! And good going on having a *designated driver*...that's a nifty plan...just don't let him have his way with you when he gets you home...LOL Teel, I need some seating in our bedroom, due to the fact, you cannot sit on the side of the bed to even put your shoes on.(the bed is so high off the floor). The room is definitely big enough to handle it, but I want to keep my grandmother's *gossip bench* in there also. It's such a cute little piece; I re-finished it several years ago, including reupholstering the seat part. Peg, That's terrible about your ceiling leaking again!!!! I bet you are ready to spit nails, eh? Sorry you are having to go through that again; definitely not fair! Is it enough damage for the insurance to cover this time? Sure hope they come through for you. Bren, girl, where are ya? Have you been out *cruising* today?...hope so! If I remember correctly, doesn't your DH have family in Florida? Are they near where Dennis is expected to come ashore? Hope all is well for them. Else, Barb, Donna, hi to you all! Hope you are having a good week end Well, the dryer bell is dinging, and you know what that means....darnit...time to fold the laundry :eyes: later, gals! Shelley

| Hey guys! I was just going to read the posts, but had to do another quickie drive-by to say hi! and to say..... Alida, the templates for your etching is absolutely wonderful! I would feel very special having some of your work in my house. What personality it must add. How nice to be seeing an old acquaintance. You know, I've never gone to any HS or college reunions. Can't imagine too many people remembering me, actually! Hope you'll enjoy your week as bachelorette... TB, so glad you are plugged in again Peg, the funeral must have been quite impressive. I completely understand what you are saying about the different ways people show emotions, though. It's an interesting world. Drat about the leaking! How frustrating! Shell, too bad your excursion was a bust. How very nice to be looking for new piece for your MBR--which must be HUGE to hold that much furniture. Judy, I do agree that the cookbook you are creating is a wonderful gift, and a very thoughtful and personal one. As for me, wish I had been cruising, LOL! Nope, been flat out the last couple of days with muscle spasms in my back, which is a first for me. Started out with these amazingly tender spots on my back next to the spine, and then everything went wacko. What the heck????? Much better this evening finally, but I've been one grumpy lump--just ask DH. Hope you all have a good Sunday, and Peg, I know you'll preach a good one. If I don't see you all tomorrow, I'm still either flat out or at a class I signed up for some time ago. Hugs to all.....

| Thanks for your compliments on the templates . . . *blush* . . . I'll try to remember to take my camera to get a shot of the finished job tomorrow. TB: What's a hot stencil cutter? Would it work on poster board? I use an exacto knife and I have to tell you after an hour of cutting, the first joint on my right index finger hurts! That's why it takes so long to cut . . . many breaks to rest my fingers and wrist. Old age sucks. And TB, yup. I was in the exact same "mode" when we moved. Had to buy many new organizers and small stuff . . . even wastebaskets. And it took weeks to finally get the kitchen organized. I still have some nice art glass pieces that have not found a "home" yet, after three years! Interesting about your experience with weight loss/gain with stress/anxiety. Stress with anxiety perhaps makes us less hungry? Anxiety burns calories? But plain old stress without anxiety adds weight? Gotta read that LHJ article Barb mentioned . . . . Donna, I ditto TB's idea of posting garden pictures! Peg, I have always been one to show emotion, too. I think it's healthy to express it and get it out of the way. I wonder if the New England stoicism in the face of grief has it's roots in the British psyche (is that the right word)? Sorry about your ceiling leaking! But I am confused. I thought you lived on a lower level . . . with the lady whose toilet leaked living above you. However, I do know from first hand experience with my house that a leak over HERE can show up way over THERE. Haven't caught up with the news this AM yet as to how the Keys fared. Looks like they may have squeaked by. Does not look good for the Panhandle, though. My heart really goes out to the people living there. There was an interesting tidbit on Fox News (I am a Fox News junkie) about the Florida housing boom. If they are indeed in a new cycle of 30 years of hurricanes, this analyst brought up the point of who the heck would want to buy a house in an area where they have to worry about hurricanes several times a year, not to mention the cost of home insurance. Analyst said cost of houses in some areas may drop like a ton of bricks. Judy, your Cookbook sounds like a BIG project . . . but a rewarding one! I just know your fDIL will love it! Have fun at the "Girls Only" party! LOL about Shelley" comment about your DH "having his way with you." And Shelley . . . you forgot your swatches???? Sounds like something I would do. The quest continues . . . . Oh Brenda, I am so sorry about your back. You have every right to be grumpy. What are you "doing" for it? Hot/cold? Have you tried those Icy Hot patches? They worked fairly well for me the last time I pulled a back muscle . . . along with 4 ibuprofens a few times a day. Ilse, how's the house viewing coming? Any nibbles yet? Kim, how's everything going in AK? Barb, HI! What's happening in Waldo?

| Ouch Brenda! Hope you've found a way to calm down those back muscles. That's really disabling. I spent yesterday morning helping a crew from my church paint a house for an old lady the city had threatened with a citation. At least the city provided the paint and a few supplies. I'm glad my stint was in the morning--a bit cooler! But I did activate the elbow pain I've been trying to cure. I dug up a Thermacare freebie I had kept, and slapped that on my arm all night. It seems to have helped--but I do have an appt. with a doc. My sister and her husband have a condo in Key West. Seems they've dodged disaster once again. I'm always amazed at the gazillion dollar "beach houses" people are building on the barrier island in NC where we rent every year. What happened to the idea of a little shack you could forget about after a hurricane? Alida, your etchings are lovely. It's apparent that you are an artist, as well as an artisan, with glass. Today, I'm going ice skating. Gotta get cool! Be well everybody. |

| Hi Gang: Spending my time writing to you instead of being outside with the congregation! I really hate all that shmoozing. They honored me this morning for my 15 years of ministry. That was a surprise! This church is SO great. Alida: Our condo building is actually almost four floors. The condo above has cathedral ceilings and a loft above the LR. She also has the garage. We have the condo below which has two floors. You walk into the ground floor with 2bdrms the kitchen two bathrooms and the living room. then you go downstairs to two bedrooms, a bathroom and a big rec room where we have our library, ent. center, and stuff. Because the condo is built on a hill, you can walk out the sliders in the rec room to the ground and the lake (which is about 50 yards down the hill). Upstairs we have a deck that looks out over the lake. It's really an idyllic setting. I'll miss the water. Glad that DH is home. He is beginning to see some of the things that need to be done. He wouldn't address this ceiling leak if he were working. Luckily, it is at the forefront of his mind. He'll call the handyman again. We think it is a flaw in the building plan and the outside flashing. We thought we had it addressed, but NOT!. I'm up a pound today. Not sure why. I ate clean yesterday and drank 90 ozs of water. I think that the only way I am going to start losing is to EXERCISE. Dang!!! I DID like it when I got started. It's just the getting started that is hard. Shel: I hope that you are having a good day. Barb: So sorry that you elbow is giving you trouble. Seems that if you do a good deed it should be without the aches and pains, huh? Brenda: As one with chronic back pain, I prescribe: 1. those icy hot patches, 2. Ice helps too. 3. Rest. 4. Keep your knees elevated when you lie on your back. 5. BIG drugs! (I love BIG drugs. ) (Lest you think I'm an addict, let me reassure you that because I have Fibromyalgia, the Dr. has prescribed BIG drugs for my FM pain when it comes. Luckily, I have been pretty pain free for a couple of years.) But, I have to tell you that my teeth are killing me. They have been hurting since I came home 10 days ago, but I thought it would go away when I got used to the veneers. But, they just don't seem to fit right. They look absolutely wonderful. I guess I'm going to have to call the Dentist. ..............But, back to you................ Do take care of yourself. Dang!! It's as if everything in your body hurts when your back hurts. If you find that you have trouble urinating or pooping, call the Dr. immediately!!!! (Excuse my language "p**ping") Judy: What a labor of love!!! I would not have thought of that. You are a wonderful MIL. Terry: I hope you have the energy to keep plugging. If not, just rest. At least you are there. When we move, I have to get the kitchen done first, then the living room, and then the master bedroom. The rest of the house can wait. It takes a while to know where to put stuff, as Alida said. I always spend a fortune finding things to match as you have said. Are there curtains that you have to get, or are the windows finished? Have a good day all. I think everyone is gone now. Peace, Peg

| Hello all, Bren, so sorry about the back spasms...they can really be debilitating. Have you seen a dr. for it yet? I'm giving much consideration to seeking chiropractic care the next time my back *goes out*. My friend swears by her chiropractor. She says sometimes it may take a few treatments, but he can usually get her up and going again. LOL...sounds as if I'm talking about a car instead of a body Peg, wow on the 90 oz of water...that's super! I do well to get my required 64 oz; but in the summer, I can usually get an extra cup or 2 down. In the winter, it's a much different story; I'd rather drink HOT green tea when I'm already freezing and shivering. Sorry your teeth are hurting. I'm sure that's got to be miserable; is it a constant pain, or is it when you eat? I didn't realize what all was involved in veneers until you clued us in. Hope you are better soon. Barb, do you have a counterforce strap or brace? That is what I have to do for my lateral epicondylitis(tennis elbow). I have had steroid injections in both elbows, and surgery on my left one. My orthopod said one more injection only for the right one, then surgery. I did 6 weeks physical therapy on it a few years ago and eeked out of having surgery. It hurt to even pick up an empty soda can. Hot packs, followed by deep massage, followed by ice massage and wearing the counterforce brace finally got it better. To this day if I think I am going to be having a bad day at work or lots of heavy lifting, I will wear my brace. Hope you get some relief and get better soon Judy, how was your party last night? Details, we want details!!! Pictures!!! We wamt pictures...LOL. Alida, I can't imagine cutting anything out so massive with an exacta knife! I bet your hands and wrists do ache!!! When I sew to much, I get thumb pain; yes, getting older does stink!!! Especially the squeeky joints, the root canals, the bifocals and the bad back, which I have all of on any given day...LOL...aacckk! Please do post a pic of your finished creation...I can't wait to see it!!! Teel, hope you are making headway in your unboxing process. Isn't it amazing how fast the packing part goes, but the unpacking can take forever, or at least that's how it seems to me. Happy nesting!!! Well...I just heard a clap of thunder! Totally outta the blue!! I don't think we were forcasted for any rain...I'll be darn! But, we'll sure take any that comes our way! Everyone else...howdy and hope you are good! later, ladies Shell

| This is the 3rd time I've written this and lost it twice. I have no idea what I'm hitting, but it disappears just the same. Maybe my nails are getting too long and I'm hitting two keys at once. Oh well.... Yesterday I did my trip to town to buy the special burgers that they hubby of the lady we are having the party for requested. He said they only eat Bocca soy burgers. Fine, I thought I could do that. I left for town at 9 and by 3 I still hadn't found them. I was tired, hot, hungry and cranky by then. I finally found them at the last store I tried (Murphy's law), and just scooped up 3 boxes. When I got home I had to have a look at these things and I could have cried. When I saw the boxes I only read Bocca and Burger. If I had looked closer I would have seen that it was ground burger. Also, one of the boxes was chicken pieces not burger. So, I decided to heck with it, I went to the store this morning and bought Money's veggie burgers. I decided it was kind of rude for this guy to tell me what I had to buy. If he wanted them so badly he could have bought them for himself. By the time I was finished, I had spent $30 for stupid burgers for 8 vegetarians. So, if they don't like like the ones I've bought I guess they will have to do without. See.....I'm still cranky. This morning I have already cut the grass, done the shopping, 2 loads and laundry and cleaned the carpets. No wonder my feet hurt. Just seeing the dirt that comes out of the carpets is enough to make up my mind that I am definietly getting hardwood floors. Just imagine the germs in there. Yuk!! I have a roast in the oven and other than making supper I don't plan on doing another thing. I'm just plain pooped. I'll wax the floors on Wednesday night and then it will just be the getting ready on Saturday. The guest list was around a nice comfy 10 and now has grown to 25 last I heard. We have a small house, so it had better be nice so I can have it outside. Cross fingers everyone, please. I'll see what I can do about the pictures of the yard. No promises though, okay? Alida: Wow! Are you ever talented. I'm love something like that on my front door. I think maybe I should just post this before I lose it again. Almost time for a nap I think...I know I could use it. I'm still battling a sinus infection and not sleeping well seeing as I can't breathe. So, maybe a nap will help. Have a good Sunday gang.

| Oh my, Donna, you do get the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval and the Martha Stewart award both this week. I hope these people realize how special they must be for all the work that you have done. As for your Grandkids coming this week........ why don't you suggest meeting them at some restaurant like Chuck E. Cheese where there is a play and entertainment area for the kids. That way they can blow off steam and do it some [place that won't cause you to have to backtrack on house cleaning. It would be worth it to pay for an evening out so that you don't add more stress into the equation. Shelley, We've gotten some rain the last few days, too. No thunder though. It seems so strange that they are already having hurricanes in Florida. It is way ahead of the season. Hurricane season usually is the start of our fall rains. Maybe we will get a little something out of it. But, darn, if I lived in the Florida panhandle, I'd get out. That's just too many storms in too short of a time period for me. Peg, We feel pretty special that you came to spend some time with us instead of "smoozing" after church. It is nice to be able to check in with "friends" isn't it. And, yea for DH finally clueing in on the problems that need to be addressed. Maybe he can see that the repairs are finally done correctly. Brenda, Barb and you too Alida, OUCH! Getting old is the pits! I hope you all improve soon. Alida, do remember to take the camera so that we can see your finished glass creation. TB, it's so good to have you back. I can imagine that if I ever moved (I've been in this house over 30 years) that I would be out buying stuff, too. Yuk about the cabinets and the garage. But, if you are like me, I would probably have cleaned the cabinets again anyway. I have been so busy this summer that I didn't get my annual overhaul cleaning done. I had intended to paint the kitchen cabinets. That's a laugher! They are really dating the house and something desperately needs to be done to them. Of course DH is clueless about that so I'll just let it rest until another summer's project. The recipe project is just about finished. I added it up and have typed 119 pages of recipes. Generally there is only one recipe per page, but in some cases where there was more than one version of a recipe, both are on the same page. The recipes include things of mine, things from both grandmothers, and even some things from DS's great grandmothers. I put a category header and small image on each page. When I print them off I'll put them in a three ring binder with index dividers. I have some really cute paper to make a cover that will slip into the front of the binder. I found a few years back that a three ring binder was a great way to go. All the things that you print off the internet and that people Xerox and give to you only need holes and then can quickly get filed away. I keep some blank pages in the notebook and can tape stuff that I cut out of the newspaper onto a sheet which can also be filed in the correct category. I hope she finds my system helpful. If not, she'll still have lots of the family recipes. I'm also giving her a cookbook of quick and easy recipes. I think my mom had several recipes in that book. Before she died, she had purchased a case of the cookbooks and used to give them out as wedding gifts. I saved the last two for DS and DD. And now the party report........... I got wasted away in Margaritaville. And, as happens from having a few too many, I woke up dying of thirst more than once last night. In fact, I polished off two bottles of water during the night. The real backlash from the party is that the Margaritas set off the munchies today. I really had to fight it to stay away from bread and crackers ( and cookies and ...). I was reasonably successful in avoiding anything really bad, but I got bad about munching while I was preparing dinner. Tomorrow should be better! |

| Good morning! Today's the BIG Etch day. Say a prayer that all goes well. Lots of things can go wrong . . . namely etch rejection. Even though I . . . 1) wipe glass with goof-off 2) scrub glass with Soft-Scrub 3) scrape glass 4) wipe down with ammonia and water 5) final rinse with alcohol and water . . . a few spots can still have some glue residue from stickers or the coating the glass company puts on glass that will cause my etch liquid to not lay down. A real PITA. And, of course, there's always the possibility that DG measured wrong. Then that calls for a lot of adjusting. My camera is by my purse. Barb, Peg is right. It's a bummer that a good deed resulted in elbow pain. Is it "tennis elbow?" It was hot yesterday! Good thing you were on the AM shift. I was watering grass all day, so I know it was hot! BTW, where do you ice skate? Peg, you hate shmoozing? You may hate it but I'll bet you are good at it! Your condo sounds gorgeous. And the flashing could very well be the problem. That was part of my leak problem, too. Sorry your teeth hurt. I hope the dentist can see you soon. Is this pain something that happened after the veneers were put on, or did you have it from the first "work session" that prepped your teeth? Perhaps veneers are like false teeth and you just need a little adjusting? I hope that's all it is. What are BIG drugs? Is that an acronym or do you mean really big doses of a drug? And WHY should one call a doctor immediately if having trouble p-ing? Just curious. Between all our aches and pains I am learning a lot about remedies! Judy, congrats on a job well done! I did the same thing for my recipe book. Three-ring binder is the way to go. Wasted on Margaritas, lol! Bet it was FUN. How many did you have? My limit is one. On two I get really silly and three will make me sick. Good luck with curbing those munchies. Shelley, OUCH on the tennis elbow. Although you seem to have it under control now, am I correct in thinking something like this never really goes away? Donna, yes, that guy was rude! Those vegetarians are lucky you care so much. My fingers are crossed for a lovely day and blooming lilies. 25 people? And you were worried no one would come! Judy's idea about meeting the G-kids at a restaurant is a good one. Is that possible? Carpet cleaning is on my agenda, too. It's been three years! Have a good day, all. Remember a prayer for my job to go well today!

| Alida, hope all goes well. You've certainly planned carefully. But Murphy sometimes kicks in, as we all know. I skate at Ice Chateau on Metcalf in the summer, Crown Center in the winter. Margaritaville, eh? My favorite temptation. And speaking of munchies, I stood in the Whole Foods store yesterday holding a package of WASA crackers for five minutes, pondering the Ingredients. WASA yet! On the list of carb "sins" that doesn't even show up! Nevertheless, you don't get much "bang for the buck" out of one or two WASA crackers as far as I'm concerned, so I decided not to add them to my list of options. Managed to live without crackers this long, so why start?? I'm becoming my mother. Zheesh. To reassure you all, however, I'm good to myself in a lot of ways, and if a margarita gets offered...I'm there. |

| I think that my visit to Margaritaville resulted in 3-4 over two hours time. It's hard to tell. There was a Margarita machine out by the pool where we just kept refilling our glasses. I'm an alcohol light weight and that was way past my normal limit..... ........And the result is that this morning I am way past my limit on the scale....... It's time to get serious before I seriously get any further out of line. I can't decide if two weeks on the road is a good thing or bad (probably bad). I will be out of the kitchen and that's good. I will be tempted by lots of non normal situations, and that's bad. Darn, back to my sig line........... Maintenance is the hardest part. Weight creep is starting to get me. |

Two Christmases ago, we spent the two days with my DD and boyfriend and kids in PA. She served those Margaritas that come in a plastic tup and you only add Tequila? I had ONE, and ended up sitting on DH's lap and slurring my words! They poured me into bed and I have now a reputation in THAT family as a lush! ONE Margarita!! I can remember the days when I could drink many under the table. Yup. It's getting old that's doing it! (Well, that and the fact that I don't drink hard liquor much anymore. I drink a glass of wine most every night at home, but that's it.) Boring! Alida: If, when you have back spasms, you can't p** or p**p, it may mean that the nerve that goes from your spine to your bladder or bowel is being pressed. That's dangerous. Also, I mean Codeine or Percoset as BIG drugs, to use instead of Ibruprofen. Though, for most people, Ibuprofen is enough. I have a tolerance that is out of sight because of a lot of factors. Prayers are with you today! Sounds like that etching is well worth the price! Donna: I second the motion of Judy's. Take those kids somewhere they can have fun OUTSIDE of your house and garden! Sounds like your party is going to be wonderful. I also award you the Martha Stewart award for fabulosity! Shel: Hope your week goes well. Check in and let us know how your doing. Barb: I continue to be impressed with the ways that you use your body. I have really become a slug. I continue to beat myself up over it and not sure why. (I suspect that I NEED something to beat myself up over. Is that ever the craziest thin (Freudian slip) you have heard??) Ice skating, no less! You are a marvel! Brenda: Worried about you, dear friend. Check in when you can sit up. Peace, Peg

| Ok, I put my money on the line this morning. They are having a 10 pound weight loss pool at CURVES. The duration of the contest is 10 weeks (which means that I will still have a while to recover after I get back from the trip). It costs $10 to get in and everyone that loses 10 pounds is guaranteed to get their $10 back plus a cut of the seed money and that of those that don't lose theri 10 pounds. Seeing that I was at an all time high since reaching goal 2 years ago, I'm in. And I'll put it out right here and now for all of you, too. Fully dressed on the scales at Curves I weighed 148.5. So now, along with everything else, money is my motivator. I'm so darned competitive, I'll do this. |
