| Hi guys! Just a quickie fly by for me. This week at work has been *ugly*...LOL. I am pretty wiped out by the time I get home(getting up at 0345 and 0400). But, I've been popping in and trying to keep up with the goings on Just know I'm here in spirit, if not in person, for a few days...LOL. Absolutely nothing new here in the heartland; the miserable heat wave continues...aacckk! Well ratz!!!! Just got off the phone with my eye doc. Apparently the contact lens company is having *issues* with the toric bifocals, and they have stopped production until they can resolve some of the issues...blah! So, we'll go to plan B....whatever that ends up being....probably distance contacts with a pair of readers. Oh well, such is life. later, ladies... Shelley

| Hello, everyone. Just taking a few minutes to revisit my real life. Thank you for all your encouraging thoughts. Peg, the prayers from the Book of Worship are meaningful and comforting. I've copied them into a document to include in my journal later. Faith really kicks in--I can't imagine the loss of my mom without the beautiful promise of seeing God face-to-face. The URL for my mom's obit is here: http://www.legacy.com/kansascity/Leg...sonId=14727830 BTW, the name of that chocolate I bought at Walgreen's is Belgian Obsession. Oh yeah! A whole bar is only 150 cals, sweetened with maltitol. Speaking of divine intervention! Thank you all once again. I'll be back when the uproar subsides. |

| Barb: Thank you for posting your Mom's on-line obituary. I would attend the service tomorrow, but I have two jobs scheduled. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. And Belgian Obsession? Gotta get to Walgreens! Donna: How lovely your husband made dinner! That was a nice treat. Husbands can surprise us every now and then, eh? Those damn fires. They seem to be everywhere. I think of all the animals . . . and those beautiful trees that take so long to grow. I have heard that fires can be beneficial for re-growth, but seems to be at too high a price. Thank goodness your home is safe. Shelley, rats, too, about those contacts! Will you still be able to try them once they get rid of the bugs? I am sorry you are having such a hard week. Is it anything in particular or just in general? Another small glitch on the job yesterday. Bob measured 5 windows short. But I was still able to use the film without trimming. It just took a little more finesse with the install. Also heard my sister is getting her phone back today, my step-son thinks he may get an offer to be the minister at a nice church in Liberty, MO, and the other step-son called from Army basic training just long enough to say "All's OK." Things are looking up! Have a wonderful day everyone!

| Hi All: Well, the proverbial poop has hit the fan here at the church and I am going to earn my money!! D***! I was really hoping to get out of here before this happened. The details are much too long to write, but at a "meta" level, the system is getting so anxious that the control freaks here are beginning to act out. The system is anxious because things are changing again. Remember that they have been living with a dying pastor for five years, and various interims have come and gone. They are in the process now of replacing me, and it is not going well. looks like I am going to have to stay until the end of September. But that is the absolute END! I have extended my time now three times. I really need to GO! Im'd my gd yesterday and asked about the new babysitter. She said she is awesome! Yay! Barb: Thanks so much for stopping in to reassure all of us. We are so thinking about you and praying for you. I am especially thinking of you today. Grace and Peace to you and your family as you take in the finalities that come with this day. I hope and know that you can celebrate her life. Shelley: So sorry it's been a sucky week. I don't know where you get your energy, girlfriend! Do you go to bed early? It's been a sucky week for me too. Teelbee: Thanks for the heads up about the flax. I'll bet that's it too. I'm going back to Whole Foods today to get some of their flax seeds and more of the dang soy isolate and the other stuff. I have a unused coffee grinder too. I'll mix it together as I use it, I guess. That would be better than that taste! Judy: What a good looking family! You are a real beauty! I hope you look in the mirror and see that. Donna: Good for your DH for fixing dinner. But, I can't believe that you didn't put your feet up with a glass of wine! That's what I do every evening when I come home. Of course, DH is fixing dinner every night. (she said, sheepishly) He is retired now, and follows me from room to room. Fun (not!) Bren: Good to see you! Our weather is hot hot hot. I am not complaining though. After the winter we had, I am trying to bear up. Today is not quite as humid, but tomorrow is predicted to be the hottest day this summer. Of course, NE weathermen always predict the worst possible weather. We get already for it and it never comes. (well, almost never) See ya all later. I'm going to meet with the "dying" pastor to get his advice on how to handle the idiot and another one that has popped up. Peace to you all. Hope this Thursday can be a good one for you. Peace, Peg

Alida, from the sounds of your last job, I think you are getting to be very adroit at making lemonade out of lemons. Fitting film without trim must be very tricky indeed. I was looking into sunshade pull shades to put in front of the kitchen window and sliding door. I was interested to see that one option was a shade made out of a heavy weight tinted film. Do you think a film shade would hold up to the rigors of a busy place like a doorway and kitchen sink area? Peg, I can imagine that members of your congregation may be anxious (even panicky) about losing you in September. It doesn't sound like they've found a new interim? Or that you've had time to help get the new minister up to speed. September is not very far off at all. Still, it's unfortunate that the difficult parties are making that "your problem", which it isn't. (BTW, apologies all around if I've misread or misinterpreted the situation.) Donna, I wouldn't go out and mow the lawn if my DH got up from the TV and announced he was making dinner. I'd be out cold on the floor from the shock of it. :silly: Shelley, here's hoping the rest of the week goes more smoothly for you. You work in OR, right? My mother was an OR nurse - lots of potential for drama and stress in that job. But, she loved it (for the most part). BC, good luck with the hairstylist tomorrow! Maybe she'll go easy on you if you can finish a few jewelry pieces to take to her shop. It sounds like she enjoys sharing your talents with her other clients and friends. My new koi are still being reclusive. I only catch glimpses of them. I have to put out food and sit very still for about 10 minutes before they come up to feed. And, then it's only brief flashes - they dart out to snag a bit and then dart back under the lily pads. I told DH that they are not very satisfactory as pets, so far. I had an uncomfortable dream last night. In my dream, a vistor accusingly pointed out the pond water was murky (it isn't in real life). I had a sense of inadequacy about not taking good enough care of the fish. I used to have similar bad dreams when I had an aquarium. I now remember that is why I gave gave the aquarium away, LOL! It would be pretty hard to give away a pond, though. But, the birds are great! I guess I should put up more bird feeders - I'm getting lots of action from the humming birds and warblers.

| Hi gang, Well, it's another hot/humid one today, but slightly less than yesterday, with the promise of a couple of days in the 80's over the weekend. Whew!!! Oh Donna, I would absolutely faint and fall over if my DH ever fixed supper! LOL! He is good about suggesting we go out when he sees I've about reached my limit of tolerating cooking, but that's not always the healthiest solution, is it? It's not a sexist thing with him, but rather I think he believes that no food is worth the effort of his trying to make it. Actually, I rather feel the same.... LOL, the pups doooooo love a good homecooked meal though, don't they? Peg, ack! You are in a difficult position, my friend. Alida, ack also!! I second TB's comment about your ability to make lemonaide out of lemons. Of course, you don't want lemonaide all the time, either! Hope you have an easy Friday and nice weekend. TB, I think the Koi will come around eventually. Oh, I hate that kind of "anxiety" dream, but I'll bet you have them only because you take your responsibility for the fish so seriously, just as you do for your kitties. So glad you are enjoying the birds--they can be so delightful, but I warn you, you'll get as many birds as you buy seed--they'll have you bringing it in by the truckload first thing you know. Undoubtedly you have some lovely and colorful varieties in CA. Barb, thank you for sharing your Mothers obituary. It was a warm and lovely tribute. Well, I tried to call my stylist yesterday, but we've been playing phone tag. Yikes, I'll probably end up "surprising" her--and without any jewelry, to boot. I should whip up a pair of earring tonight at least, shouldn't I One another front, why the heck am I getting hot flashes??? Why not, I guess. Thought I was through that. Sheesh....

| You're stressin' Brenda. Worried what the hairdresser is going to say? Shake it off and relax...you'll be fine and the hot flashes will go away. Terry: I'm glad that you're enjoying the birds. I used to have a bird feeder in my backyard and loved to watch them feed. Then I realized they were spitting the seeds into my garden and it was growing! What a mess. I'm still pulling grass out. The feeder sits empty now I'm afraid. I've looked around the yard and there is no where else to hang it that I don't have flowers. I have enough weeding to do without help from the feathered friends. And, I agree, those little guys can sure eat!! I'm really looking forward to Saturday. It will be my grandson's 3rd birthday. There will be a little party at my son's house for him. We're having to do it early cause he will be having surgery on the 19th (after his mom has surgery on the 12th). But, that's okay. Can't wait to see the look on his face when we give him his little scooter. I forgot to tell you all my little stepping stone story. When I had the surprise party for my friend, her grandson who is 8 had bought a kit to make a frog stepping stone. It's got mosaic tiles all over it and looks really sharp. So, I bought the kit too. On Monday, I set everything up outside to get it made. I was alone, so I thought it would be fun. Well, dh came home just after I started it. He loves to help! The ending version of this story is that he told me not to put all the cement in the mold cause it would run over the sides. Turns out there wasn't enough cement and the mosaic wouldn't sink into it properly. It's just a mess. I can't believe that an 8 year old kid did this without any trouble and I made such a mess. I'm really thinking of just turning it over and not having the tiles on it. They should have warnings on the labels saying the kits are not for adults!! lol

| Hi guys... flying low here...LOL. You won't believe this...it's only 6:30pm, (central) here, and I already showered and have my pjs on, just waiting for it to get a little darker so I can go to bed...LOL. I woke up at 0315 this morning; alarm was set for 0400; gave up and got up at 0345...aacckk. In the morning, I will have to get up at 0345; and most likely will be near a 12 hour day at work. We have just really been super busy the past 2 weeks. I guess everyone wants surgery before school starts! Several of my patients have been teachers over the last few days. We are short on staff since a few of our part time nurses have left, and an extra pair of hands on a busy day really means alot. Anyhoo.....really glad tomorrow is Friday So, no , Alida, nothing in particular, just the general stuff that overworked and underpaid folks complain about...LOL. ![]() Peg, sorry you are having a sucky week too. It IS the pits, huh? You are a sweetheart to stay beyond your retirement date; I'm sure your congregation appreciates that. I don't know that I could do that; I have a feeling when I set my retirement date, I'm gonna be heck bent and determined to stick to it ..LOL. Barb, your mom's obit was a very lovely and loving tribute to her. Wishing you much peace and comfort in the coming days Teel, I work in the surgery department, but mostly in the pre-op area. I get the patients ready for surgery, start their IV's, do labs, and pre op teaching, etc. I also work in PACU(post anesthesia care unit) on occasion. I can also scrub, but haven't in several years; but I love the OR. Bren...not used to the color yet? I'm sorry. I surely know, when the hair is not right, it can make you feel off centered...at least that's how I feel. Hope you get *centered* soon. But to be honest, I'd bet there's just not that many 50+ year old *goth girls* around Donna, have fun at your little GS's birthday! That is such an adorable age! They say and do the darndest things! I miss not getting to see my little Isaijah more often, because they do grow up fast it seems. Judy...hope you are having a relaxing time. We'll expect that slide show within 72 hours upon your return...LOL. Really... Hope I didn't miss anyone... I think I'll head towards the bedroom...watch a little HGTV. later, gang Shelley

| Shell, you have a tough job, especially when there aren't enough hands to go around. No wonder you are there such long hours if you do pre and post op. Whew. Take care, have a good sleep, and hopefully after tomorrow you'll have a good weekend. Don't suppose there's any way you could go part time and give yourself a break? Shell, Donna, yeah, getting used to the color (sort of)and have had a couple of people complement it, even. But I still hate to surprise my stylist, who is also a friend. LOL, so that's why the hot flashes, eh? hehehe! Donna, oh what a cute story about the frog stepping stone kit! Leave it to adults to overthink everything! Do you have a lot of different stepping stones in your garden? I think about how lovely all your flowers must look Shelly, how far away does your daughter's family live--I know I should remember, but I'm drawing a blank.... We are back from "date night." Spinach, ham, and swiss crepe, and nabbed a knitting magazine from Borders with and article on knitting software in it for the pc and/or pda See you all tomorrow.

| Hi all... wow you are all so good about getting on this forum and catching up - it may take me a while to get used to being with you again... sorry I'm not able to check in as often! Barb, your mom's obit was lovely - she sounds like the kind of person that people were energized by just being around her - an educator and the matriarch of a large loving family - how sweet! Thanks so much for sharing... it is always a good thing to celebrate the lives of those we've loved who have passed. Bless you and your family! Shelley - are you jetlagged? Sorry if I missed that - jet lag is the bane of my existance and I have learned a few tricks over the years (and, hate to admit this, but I notice that age has a lot to do with how tough it is to combat). I would love to hear about these contact lenses you having been talking about. I considered lasik but the doc told me that for the price it wasn't worth it - I'd be paying money to switch from one set of glasses (for my nearsightedness) to another (for reading, eating, meals, etc.). I read a LOT and decided it wasn't worth it. He also told me that for people in professions like truckdriving and police work - it was a good thing to have done - but for the rest of us - it makes no sense to have lasik after age 40 because your lasiked eyes will need reading glasses almost immediately - whereas if you have lasik done in your 20s - then you have 20 years with great vision near AND far! Donna, I laughed at your mosaic story - but I did want to remind you that you were doing just fine until DH stepped in and 'helped'. I like the idea of identifying those items that are for kids only!! Peg, it's nice to read your posts - you were always such an inspiration to me when I was feeling low! I can see your congregation feels similarly!! I'm glad your DGD has a new babysitter! I read some of those back posts and heard about the light blue convertible - my kinda woman!! Oh, and the flaxseed? I brought a case of Bob?s Red Mill out here with me two years ago ? put it in the freezer. I pull out one bag at a time, grind what I need and put that bag back into the freezer ? so far so good!! I also grind in the coffee grinder. Alida, you are a professional! ? It?s all about being resourceful and flexible ? regardless of the job, the town, even the country! I have been in Tbilisi since June of 2003 ? my DH has the long term stable job here as a banking and finance specialist on an agricultural development project (we expect to be here until next summer). I do all kinds of short term work ? this winter I was in Ghana working on a trade and investment project (yes I know more about the exporting of cashews, pineapple, mangos and papaya than anyone cares to know) and in Uganda on a rural finance project (ATMs in the desert ? all kinds of wild things). I am an organizational development specialist so I do strategic planning, project launches, training and facilitation, teambuilding, strategic human resources management ? lots of things. Rog and I have a website ? a VERY out of date one (someone hacked into our home page in October and so there are still some very out of date pages). www.r-n-r.com (we love Tbilisi ? even in the summer where the temps are in the 100s and life is all about the pool! - check out the travel writing on our site - and read all about Georgia!) Bren, I hope you will post a picture so we can see your new locks! Thanks for welcoming me back! I have always loved your signature picture - I want those biceps!! And Kim, I love your picture ? 69 pounds? Please assure me that the last 20 pounds are the absolutely most resistant?..:( Ok, I was supposed to be tracking ? so yesterday was 3.25 miles in 45 minutes ? dinner was good we ate at good friends? last night ? I did try the pesto pasta (yeah, I know) - This morning I?m at 148.5 <<<<grrrrr>>>> Aunt Flo is heavy today so I?m chalking some of the weight up to her. I?ll treadmill again this afternoon ? I am doing hand weight exercises while I walk for the arms (trying to lose the old lady wings, another <<<grrrrrrr>>>>). Hope you all have a wonderful weekend ? try to stay cool!

| Busy bunch! Peg: So now you have ~another~ idiot to contend with? But end of September doesn't sound too bad. I know it's hard because your mind was set on an earlier retirement date and now you have to regroup. I am constantly amazed at church politics. I see a lot of it with stepson Mark. It also amazes me how long it takes for a church to find a pastor! I mean ~YEARS~! If corporations were run like that, well . . . . Keep us posted. Terry: re: film shades. It all depends on what you NEED. Are you looking for just blocking some glare? Then the film shades should work. If you have a bad heat problem, film on the glass may be better. If fade is an issue, film on glass is better, too. Why don't you price out both? Measure the GLASS area for each PANE and call those measurements into a window film company. Ditto for the shades. The shades will have to be rolled up and down . . . perhaps a hassle? And they will still have a gap that will allow heat and white light to seep into the room. That's why film to glass would be better for heat and fade. But if you don't care about fading and just want a little glare blockage during several hours during the day, shades may be the way to go. And Donna's right about bird seed sprouting weeds! That's one of the main reasons I don't feed the birds now. I don't have TIME to weed THOSE weeds in addition to all the exisitng weeds I have! I tried a ground feeder on cement. Those little birdies would sit in the tray and THROW the seeds around with their beaks. But I am not so cold hearted after all. We do feed them in the winter and I keep the birdbaths filled in the summer and use a birdbath heater in the winter. Brenda: More hot flashes? I agree with Donna! Get thee to your stylist . . . with or without earrings! Of course, maybe it's just the HEAT? Or, God forbid, you are regressing???? I know my nights sweats popped up again after a little hiatus . . . . And OK, I'll ask: a knitting CONVENTION? Girl, you got it BAD. How's that little pink top coming? Donna: You are a GREAT grandmother to get your DGS a Scooter! I will be anxious to hear about the party. And I had to laugh about your stepping stone! Someone mentioned you were doing just FINE until DH stepped in. Think that was the problem? Shelley, you are one busy, dedicated nurse. I know you get up early, but what time to you actually check in at the hospital? Twelve hour shifts? I would probably die. No wonder you need those New Balance shoes! And is the hospital looking for replacements for the nurses who left? Or are they on an economy kick? Judy: Welcome back! Looking forward to a complete report with PICTURES! Rachel: My, you are truly the professional around here. An Organizational Development Specialist? I mean, did you go to school to learn this . . . or did it just EVOLVE? I loved your website. The pictures were GREAT! You were married in Firenze . . . my favorite city next to Roma. (FYI, I went to school in Rome for a year way back in 68-69). Your comment about the hacker concerns me. Why on earth would a hacker hack into a personal web site for Pete's Sake? And what kind of damage did he do? As for Aunt Flo . . . you BET you should put most of those pounds at her doorstep! I have to admire your tracking. OK, I'll track yesterday: no exercise except for going to the hairdresser and cutting some film. Oh . . . and . . . too much whipped cream . . . oh . . . and . . . did not get all my water in. ACK! Every day is a new day in this WOE. I do really well until about 3PM. That's when things really go to Hell in a Handbasket. I am trying to find the feeling I had during induction and OWL. My mind is my enemy. Gotta have a stern talk with myself as I am up 4 pounds. Today is a so-so day. Two jobs, 12 windows with one hard window and a lot of walking. First job is at a Jr. College, with the parking pretty far from where we are working. Well, that's what assistants are for, LOL. A happy and good day to all!

| Alida: Boy, do I relate to you with the 3 p.m. deadline for good eating. I'm great all day too, and then when I get home from work I head straight for the fridge for a pepperoni or something. Then if dh is late getting home for dinner...it's munching until he does. After dinner, I want something sweet and then feel I should have something before bed. I never used to feel this way when I was losing to get to my goal. Now that I have reached it....it's like okay, now what can I do to ruin this? I used to feel so good about myself while I was losing and before I reached my goal and now it's like it's old hat so I don't care anymore. What a self destructive attitude, I know. Maybe I should get the book out and do some more reading. Yes, I have to agree that I shouldn't have listen to my dh about the stepping stone. This will make the 4th one that I have made and the only one I had problems with. The other 3 have handprints or in the baby's case a footprint. So cute in the garden. He laughs when he sees this one, but I just politely told him it would have been fine if he had left me alone, so now he doesn't say much about it. lol Judy: You should be amost home by now. So, good to have you back!! We want to hear every last morsel of what your trip was like. Well, one of the fires is just in the mop up stage but the one closest to us is still growing. The smoke in the afternoon and evening isn't getting any better. My eyes are just burning and so sore and swollen. Everything is covered in ash now. Even my car in the morning. I pity those fire fighters. It's close to 100 every day here and they are so close to the fire it must be unbearable. We're so thankful for them. Yesterday one of our drivers here at work came around a corner and in the middle of the road was a 100 pound rock that they figure fell out of a dumptruck. He didn't stand a chance of not hitting it. He took out the underside of the truck and lost a wheel and drove down 100 feet of cement baracading. He was positive he was going to roll it, but luckily it didn't. The truck is demolished. But, he is fine. He has a few bruises and a sore leg, but other than that he's fine. We were told if he didn't have his seat belt on, he would just have been a mark on the road. This guy is a big macho looking guy with the big muscles and shaved head and the last guy you would think would be wearing a seat belt. He doesn't do laws or rules very well. But, he did have it one and that's why he's here today. So, guys, just remember this story every time you buckle up. Gotta go....invoices waiting for me. Birthday party tomorrow....have a great weekend all, I know I will.
