By the end of the dinner, there were so many glasses of wine and champagne on the table that it was hard to know what glass belonged to who.

I'm out of here again in the morning. They transferred Daddy to another hospital where his cardiologist is on call. He didn't have a serious episode, but will probably be in the hospital for a day or two for observation and tests. I'm skipping the first day of inservice, Monday. Let's see, I've done that song and dance 31 times already. I don't think I'll miss anything that I can't learn in 5 minutes from somebody else. I'll see you guys late Monday.

**Totally random side note....... I soaked off the nails that I had done two weeks ago. They were already loose, and I decided that the upkeep was too big of a pain. Besides, I couldn't type for sh*t with them.

A quickie fly-by!

Hugs, Judy! Sorry I didn't get to say hi before you left again. (Wonderful picture, though! The suit is definitely a winnah!) So sorry about your Dad's episode.

Peggers! You look SOOOOOOO great and have a FANTASTIC smile. No wonder your parishioners love you.

Donna, your little g-kids are soooo adorable! Those stepping stones will be precious memories forever. Now I wanna see you, too, when you figure out the sizing thing!

Barb, do whatever suits you. I rather like the idea of one last shopping trip with the girls.

Shelley, the gym think is a really, really tough decision, for all the reasons you mentioned. However, in these parts, $30 a month would be a fantastic bargain for a full service gym.

Oh Donna, I got so caught in in telling you about photo editing that I forgot to mention how CUTE the picture was of your grandkids!!!! Have you tried re-sizing the other one yet? Looking forward to that one!

The heat sounds awful, and you without A/C. Can you at least get a cheapie window unit so at least one room is cool? I'll bet the pups will be grateful . . . and you can get a little relief, too.

LOST Auntie's ashes? Sorry, but I did giggle when I read that. But it really is horrible . . .

Barb, did you "go out on the town" last night? I think that is a fantastic idea! I also do not think a little carb holiday will affect you that much. You are so . . . (HELP! I am sitting here and can't think of the word I want! Not dedicated, not rigorous, not determined . . . you are all those things . . . AH! disciplined. THAT'S the word I want) OK. You are so disciplined with your exercise that a little holiday will not blow you off kilter. Whew! That was a serious senior moment.

Peg, <<Hugs>> I would be upset and very hurt if a daughter of mine left a picture of me out of a family collage. I have never understood people doing hateful and hurtful things. On a happier note, your picture is beautiful! I agree with Kim. Make that your avatar!

Another sermon? Now that your stay has been extended, is this an additional sermon? I might be the only person who has never seen the play . . . or know the Joseph coat story. I keep seeing Donny Osmond in my mind . . . . . didn't he star in the play???

Shelley, you and I are a lot alike! I dither, too. And I have a bad habit of signing up for stuff and don't see it thorough, thereby wasting $$. I bought the WATP tape and in the last two weeks have done it 3 x's. Today I have no excuse! Do any of the gyms have a trial membership?

I am being dense . . . what does HTH mean? I've seen it in other posts . . .

Yes. Designed To Sell. That's the one! I can even get DH to watch that one. He is always amazed at what little tweaks can do . . . and I am, too!

Judy, I am so sorry about your Dad being in the hospital. I hope and pray he will be all right.

The picture of you and your DIL is wonderful! You both look so lovely. And the suit you wore looks perfect!

Had to laugh at your comment about typing with sculptured nails. Been there and done that!

Yesterday I was watering the lawn and got soaked by holes in TWO hoses. I HATE watering! I also noticed my spireas looked a little too yellow. So off to Lowes to buy new hoses and get some advice on the spireas (took a sample). Find out my spireas have "Iron Deficiency Anemia!" (Does anyone remember that old commercial)? So today, before it gets too hot, I am treating my plants with iron.

A good Sunday to all . . . .

Alida,
HTH = Hope This Helps

Good morning fly by...
We are watering at this very minute; sprinklers in the front and back...aacckk!
I wanted to have an in-ground sprinkler system installed, and DH kinda balked on that one. I should've just done it and said "Happy Anniversary"...LOL.

I have made a decision on joining the gym, well maybe, kinda sorta, probably....LOL.
Seriously, I think I'm gonna DO IT! I figure I've wasted more $$$ than that before, (shhhh, don't tell DH ) and I've wasted enough time thinking about it,(been pondering on it for a month or more), so NOW is the time.....shrinking back in my chair, getting that wishey-washey feeling again.

Judy, sorry about your DFIL...hope he has a speedy recovery. Bless your heart...always something...

Hope everyone has a good Sunday! I'll prolly drop back in later in the day; maybe I will have a workout session to report on by then???....we'll see...

Hi Gang!

Here I am again, having done my "greeting everyone in the patio" and waiting for them to go home so I can.

Did I tell you that I am going to be a secret shopper for Coldwater Creek? Yeah. They've given me a $50. gift certificate and I will go over there to spend it and rate the store and employees on two pages worth of criteria. They won't know that that is what I am doing. When they called to tell DH that I had been chosen to be a secret shopper he told them that my shopping is not secret! Ha! Anyway, I'm going on my first trek today before I go home.

Thanks for all the compliments gang. Wow! You should see me when I REALLY look good! (she said modestly and humbly) I'm not sure about the avatar. It took me weeks to figure out how to do it. I don't think I'll mess with it. It's only two years old. Thanks, too, for the tips about Photoshop Elements. I just installed it yesterday and need to play around to figure it out.

Shel: According to my computer, you posted at 7:43 am. What are you doing up so early!?

Judy: SO SORRY to hear that you have to travel again. I bet you are just so tired of it. Prayers ascending for you DFIL.

Bren: Whatcha doin?

Alida: I hope that you are resting and enjoying yourself today. You deserve it, girlfriend.

Donna: Gosh, that heat sounds so bad. We are in the 80's today and it is just gorgeous. Yesterday was too. We were able to open all the windows yesterday and really enjoy the day. I hope that you find some relief. Last year, in Japan, when it was too ****** HOT, I took a lot of cold showers. Cooling off my head was the only way I could get cool. I also drank a lot of water. They kept offering my "Coke," and I kept asking for water. I think that's how I got sick actually. I just don't do well with sustained heat and no A/C.

Yesterday I worked out at the condo gym for the second day in a row. I also swam two laps in the pool and worked on my legs there. I'm working up to it slowly, but it's already showing in my weight. I've dropped almost 4 pounds since I got back from Ca. Of course, I gained while I was there. I'm not confessing to what yet, but I'm almost to another decade! I'm afraid to say it too loud, because it's been months since I've been there. Seeing those fat women at my reunion has had a profound effect on my mind.

Peace, Peg

Hi guys!

Well....I DID IT!!!! I joined the All American Fitness Center just a few miles from my house. I bought the 18 month program and got 12 months free, so now I have NO excuse not to exercise! I had my first work out today, but it was a slow go, learning all the machines and everything. I did 15 minutes of cardio to start with on the sitting/chair bicycle. Then the resistence machines for arms, abs, obliques, inner and outter thighs, and then a few minutes on the elipticle(sp?)....which was a weird feeling. I am going to try for a M-W-F-S schedule to begin with, with my ultimate goal to be able to drop back to 3 intensive workouts per week once I get to goal. I do so hope this will jump start my losing again, and get me out of this plateau/stall. Plus, it's just *a good thing* as Martha Stewart says.

Peg.....I'm soooooo jealous! I would love to be secret shopper for Coldwater Creek! I love their stuff! We finally got a store here in OKC! I could do some major damage on the credit card if I went there very often...LOL.
Yep, I was up at 0600...but that's like sleeping in for me, 'cause I usually have to get up at 0400, give or take.

Well...need to go start dinner. Chicken and something...broccoli and cauli most likely.
Oh, I had my first go at stir fried cabbage today for lunch...not to bad! If anyone is interested, let me know, and I'll tell ya about it.

later, ladies!

Hey gang, happy Sunday to all....

Peg, how very cool to be a secret shopper! What power, woman!!! Now tell me you are really going to keep your shopping to the $50 certificate.

Congrats to you on starting a workout program...sometimes it does take bumping smack into a reality check like your reunion, doesn't it? Ouch...

And yes, I agree that I'd be incredibly hurt, too, to be left out of a daughter's album. Can you say "passive aggressive"! Yikes. Honestly, it's too sad, but certainly says more about her than you.

Also congrats to you, Shell, on joining a gym. The price seemed very reasonable, and if you can start a habit of hitting it on the way home, you'll have the exercise thing going just fine.....I should talk, LOL! I think I've gone full circle from couch tato to gym rat to couch cucumber! Speaking of veggies, yes, do share your stir fried cabbage, ok??

Alida, hope you are having a nice Sunday evening, with all your watering completed. Tomorrow is a "legal" watering day here, if we do it before 9am or after 6. The grass won't get any, but plants and shrubs will need some, since it's back to the furnace here next week.

Let's see, what am I up to? Honestly, I seem to be busy--or at least the time seems to fly, but it sounds much too mundane and boring when I actually write it. Dad has just returned (in the last hour) from a quick trip to Arkansas to see his older brother. My Uncle Nen is in a nursing home and has just had a g-peg tube installed for nutrition. He has dementia, and has evidently "forgotten" how to swallow (among other things forgotten), but is otherwise quite alert. Boggles the mind, doesn't it.

Highlights of the upcoming week appear to include dog grooming, chiropractor, my first sock knitting lesson, and a day at a knitting/yarn convention. Wow. Talk about an exciting life....NOT! LOL!

ps. My stylist loves my color (she says), but cut my hair WAAAAY too short, and now I feel rather dorky for a whole 'nuther reason. Hmmmmmmm.

TB, Rachel, Ilse, Judy, everyone out there, see ya Monday....

Peg, how fun! I, too, Love Coldwater Creek. The ONLY problem for me is too many of their clothes need to be dry cleaned or hand washed. Except for "special" clothes, I try to avoid buying clothes that require a lot of extra care. But I do have several outfits circled in their new catalog. Fall/winter clothes are just around the corner!

Wowie, Peg. Lost 4 pounds already? You are doing GREAT! As Brenda mentioned, that reunion may have been the reality check you needed.

Shelley, YOU DID IT! Wow, that was fast. You may have to move from the Procrastinator's Club to the Action Club. Let me know how your muscles feel today, LOL! Mine were sore the next day just doing WATP!

Brenda, I think your week sounds exciting! I'll bet the knitting convention will be fun. Keep us posted on that. And I am sorry to hear about your Uncle. I have heard of that . . . people actually forgetting how to swallow . . . or breathe. Very sad.

Don't you hate it when your stylist cuts your hair too short? I have to keep on top of mine, too. "Not too short" is my mantra. He seems to think it should be shorter in the summer, but it's MY hair and MY buck. BTW, he just got back from Iran, visiting his Mom and checking up on the house he is building for her. He is actually half Armenian and half Iranian (as he says, "Persian, NOT Arab!) I asked him if he is "checked" a lot. He says he is always singled out but looks at the whole process with good humor. I asked him if he would ever move back there. A resounding NO was his reply.

Well, it RAINED here in KC yesterday! The day started out sunny, with nary a word about rain. I watered until the proverbial cows came home . . . started around 6:30 AM. Around 3 PM I noticed a slight overcast. Hmm. Then Kaboom! A big thunder crash with pouring rain and heavy winds. Where the heck did this come from? Rain is good, right gang? WRONG! I see more water coming in on the kitchen ceiling in a different spot than before . . . also in the front hall ceiling just above the entry door . . . also the ceiling just above the fireplace. Can you say S**T? I am running around like a lunatic, swearing about this house while DH seems to be taking it calmly. The OLD water spots where we fixed the outside of the house were DRY, so we DID fix something with that wood rot repair we did a few months ago. Looks like we will be faced with MORE repair. Well, the guy did tell us the WHOLE side needed it. I thought maybe we could get by another year. We did have a few rains after the repair with no leakage. I think the blowing winds yesterday forced water into unusual places, thereby highlighting MORE problems. <<BIG SIGH>> I swear, if I didn't like the floor plan and location of this place so much, I would take a torch to it . . . .

I have to attend to a bunch of office work which I totally ignored yesterday . . . Have a great week everyone!

Hi all... just checking in after the weekend... we had a scorcher here but Donna, I suspect it is nothing like where you are - I'm so sorry... I am a real whinner when it comes to hot sticky summers. We grew up in a house without a/c (my parents are STILL there after 48 years) and summers were just miserable. I loved the pics of the little ones - sweet, sweet faces!

Peg, I loved your on-the-road picture, you do look fantastic, healthy, trim, just splendid! 4 pounds is so amazing!! I can't believe Coldwater Creek (or any retail/catalog place) has a program like a secret shopper, how very cool! How did this come about? Did they contact you out of the blue? Do you shop there regularly so they knew you were a good customer? Had you crossed a certain threshold? I giggled at your DH's comment about your shopping being no secret... LoL!

And Judy... that really is a gorgeous photo - I mean it's the kind of photo you see in the picture frames you buy in the stores. Just beautiful - you both look so happy - just marvellous. I am very sorry to hear about your Dad... you are in my thoughts - I hope he gets over the hump and the observation results in his going home ok.

Shelley, I agree with you about the whole gym thing. On those rare occasions when I am in a place for long enough to make the decision - I have a terrible time with it. I joined the "Y" when I was home for a year or so a while back and that was great because my Mom was doing senior aerobics so I could treadmill and lift while she was in class... worked great but ONLY because I had someone else going. I have discovered, over the years, that the ONLY way I will exercise is to have the treadmill and rower (and head weights) at home. I am very self-conscious and have never enjoyed exercising with others around (I'm too competitive by nature and end up fighting the losing battle to be as good as all the tight abs around me in the gym). I also have found that the tv programs with step or other aerobic classes are good for me - again in the the privacy of my own space. Good for you!! I envy you the will to do it and I'm cheering you on from here!

By the way, I'd love to hear about the cabbage - it's one of the staples in this country - can you post your recipe?

Alida, one of the many things that can't be found in most of the developing countries I live in - are things like hoses!! Believe it or not. There is no such thing as a hardware store here. It's a challenge to even have a garden here. DH and I have packed things like hose nossels (sp?), shovels, hoes, rakes, brooms, flowerpots (can you believe it?), pool chemicals, garden gloves, and all assorted other things into suitcases, air freight containers and surface containers. Over the years and the countries we've discovered that the quality of hardware and garden supplies is best in the old US of A, no matter where we are.

Well since I am here to 'supposedly' track... I guess I should - we had people here all weekend in and out by the pool. And the only way to feed large groups of sunburned, waterlogged persons is with big easy meals like pasta and home-made meat sauce, spanish rice, pork chops, etc. We can't find lettuce here so salads become a big bowl of cukes and (my) cherry tomatoes, scallions all mixed with mayo - boring but lo-carb. I also have more zucchini and summer squash than I know what to do with and so have developed a collection of interesting recipes for soups, breads (to give away), casseroles, etc. If anyone is interested - especially in the soups - let me know - they are really yummy.

Oh yeah, tracking...
Sat Aug 6: 148 pounds: 3 miles in 42 mins and I've graduated myself to 2 pound hand weights - it was a hard work out
Sun Aug 7: pool potato (eeeeuwww, what an image!)
Mon Aug 8: 147 pounds: 5 miles in 70 minutes - did 6 sets of 20 with the hand weights... whew!

My mini goals are to be down to 140 by Aug 31, and 137 by September 16 (when we leave for Prague)

'course the real goal (Only 19 pounds to go)... will take longer I'm sure... <<< grrrrrr >>>>>

Hope all of you have a good Monday!

Morning all..........

DDad had a slight "misdiagnosis" in the emergency room. They said congestive heart failure. What it really is is another blocked artery......... we think. Angiogram is this afternoon, and if we have the best case senario, they will be able to do the angioplasty and stint at the same time. The more probable situation is to do the balloon and stint tomorrow or Wednesday. All is dependent on how well his kidneys are functioning to remove the iodine used for the contrast "photos". If the kidney function is top notch, the procedures will go today. If not, they will have to wait until tomorrow or Wednesday. I am missing the first day of inservice today, I can punt again for tomorrow, but I will have to leave and be home for Wednesday to give myself at least half a day to be ready to start classes on Thursday. DH is staying for the duration and will be here until Ddad can take care of himself at home. I suspect that will be Saturday or Sunday.

All prayers gladly accepted. I'll check in again when I can.

Hmmm... I keep losing my posts lately. I think I need a brain transplant. My boo-boo rate is way up there, too this month (letting pans cook dry, leaving water running and overflowing the sink, leaving doors open all night... SHEESH!)

Rachel well done on staying faithful to those hand weights! I can not exercise much by myself at home, I'm too easily distracted. I've always done better in classes where the group dynamic energy sustains my interest. Now, if I could just kick my butt out of the house more often.... How odd that it's so difficult to find basic gardening supplies in developing countries. You would think that is one of the things they need the most - irrigated garden plots for supplementing the daily diet.

Alida, I'm so sorry to hear about the water leakage. What a shame after all you went through during the spring. I suppose it's a small comfort, but it's probably a better that you found out during the summer when the repairs could be made more easily. Despite the maintenance drawbacks, having a setting and floor plan you love are really important. You can fix a house, but you can never fix a location.

BC, I had to chuckle about the short hair cut. My stylist always wants to go shorter in the summer, too. My hair as now short as it has ever been. Still, I bet your new 'do is fresh and cute looking - you'll probably like it better in a few days.

Shelley - congrats on joining the fitness club! That does sound like a very good deal, especially with the 12-month discount. Yes, I think it would be a really good idea to install an automatic irrigation system. Just tell DH it's a done deal - unless ~he~ wants to take over the watering chores! Now that I'm in the condo, I realize just how much time and energy I was putting into watering the lawn and borders at the old house. Monitoring and moving the sprinkers and the hand watering took hours each week.

Peg, how fun to be a secret shopper! My friend did a correspondence class to qualify as a secret shopper; but I don't know if she ever got an assignment. I like Coldwater Creek a lot - especially now that they have the retail shops where you can try things on. Back when it was mail order only, I hated those high shipping fees they charged - particularly on returns. Coldwater, for some reason, is one of the few womens clothing places that carries lines that actually fit me (remember, I'm made from spare parts - long back, short legs and arms). And they carry clothing suitable to my age and lifestyle. There's a Coldwater Creek outlet about 40 minutes south of me. I've occasionally gotten some good deals there, though it tends to be the stuff in funny colors that didn't sell.

Judy, the wedding party sounds like it was a big success and your picture is wonderful - it quite captures the spirit of such an important and happy occasion! I hope all goes with with your father's transfer and the stint procedure. You seem pretty calm, but I know it must be worrisome. Here's hoping that he's doing much better by now.

Donna, your gkids are so pretty! I hope the birthday party was lots of fun - let us know how it goes. The heat there must really be something if it doesn't even cool off at night! How far north are you? Do you have those really, really long summer days where it stays light until 10 pm? Would a swamp cooler work in your climate? If it's dry enough, those seem to do a pretty good job at making a room more comfortable.

Well, I've got to press on with some chores here, so I'll check back later.
