Hi Guys,
Well, we've almost made it to the end of the week....yipeee! Next week my partner that works with me in pre-op will be gone on her vacation. She is going to Mexico to play on the beach with her family. She feels about the same way I did....SOOOOO ready for some vacation time...LOL. Sooooo, next week I will have a new orientee working with me...yikes! The new person has been a nurse for years, but she is not completely up to full potential with our charting system and the paperwork. I think she'll be ok, but it may be *baptism by fire* so to speak.
On the boss situation...yes, she is the one that came on board in May of this year. She is (was) the surgery dept manager, aka a head nurse. The RN that will be replacing her is a NEW GRAD with lots of surgery experience, but NO management experience; she has worked her way up from working as a scrub tech while going to nursing school, to being a surgery staff RN, and now will be our manager. Hopefully, we've *raised her right*...LOL. She's young, but that's not necessarily a bad thing I don't think, and she knows all the personalities of the staff and the docs we have to work with, so that is another plus for her, so we'll see

Alida, Donna and Rachel are our travelers...best wishes for a safe trip to all.

Peg, have you heard from Rachel yet? You guys better take some pics and share with the rest of us!!! How neat to meet in person! I do believe I'm jealous...LOL. <wink>
Just have fun and have a Marita(or two) for me, will ya??

Judy, wow...you might retire? I know 3 teachers that retired this past spring. They are not that old...mid 50's maybe...they were just totally and completely burned out.
One of them I know said she just couldn't take the politics and the smart mouths anymore...and the smart mouths weren't necessarily from the kids all the time...LOL.
She said after meeting some of the parents, it was no wonder the kids acted like they did...ack...I can only imagine. Anyhoo, best wishes if you do decide to retire. I know you would be able to land any job you went after! Hi 5 to ya!
Oh, a thought just popped into my head...Dallas is not that far from OKC...hummmm...thinking I might could motor down when Peg is there if that would be OK?

Bren, how are ya doing today? H/A any better? Do you know what triggered this one?
Hope you feel better sooner than soon, kiddo! (((hugs)))

Barb, yes, you are right, URI is *upper respiratory infection*. Sorry, I didn't post on that sooner. Good news your dad is being released from the hospital. Hope he's back to baseline and feeling good asap.
On the thigh thing...I will only say I think my thighs probably *flap* as much as my *bat-wings*...eeeewwwwww.....TMI!!!! What is it with those areas anyway? I have been very diligent on the thigh machine, and doing upper arm weight training, but for the life of me, I just don't seem to be seeing much improvement...sigh. I'm not giving up though!!!!

Teel, how are you? Any news from the insurance co. yet on the floor replacement?
We replaced our ceramic tile a few years ago with Italian porcelan. So much better...don't know why we didn't do it sooner. We went from an off white tile, to a larger 12x12 tile in a medium mocha color, that almost looks like sliced stone; it doesn't require near as much attention as that white tile did. Then, in our dining area, we had an oak hardwood floor installed. I really like the look of wood and stone together. Hope you get adequately reimbursed from those folks...sending good vibes for a good settlement

Ilse, big wave out to you! Keep up the good work on the swimming.

Well, I need to get my rear in gear...LOL. I have a load of laundry to fold and another I need to get into the washer...ugh. Oh well, it will just be one less thing to do over the weekend...maybe I can even get some appliquing/sewing done if I get all this blasted laundry done tonight.

(((hugs & love to all)))
later, chickiepoos....

Hi, Shelley. Nice to "hear" your perky voice early in the morning. Thanks for your thoughts on the new RN. I can tell that one of her big advantages is a good crew like you. I'm sure you'll do all you can to help her learn the ropes of management.

Ilse, I'm impressed with your commitment to the swimming. It's a great fitness activity, and I hope you'll get rewarding results for all your effort--especially the driving part.

I believe there's a substantial genetic component to the flappy-arm (and thigh) thing. Also, what flaps is obviously skin, not muscle. So, while toning and strengthening exercises are excellent for fitness, they don't really do much for the skin part--and the fat layer that sticks to it. In my "glamour photo" I've got that arm flexed tight, which gives it a "cut" look. But only bodybuilders really have that! And then only when they're in competition mode, with bodyfat reduced to nothing.

I've been hanging in at about 136 since vacation--up from about 133 before. Even though my perpetual "goal" is 128, I'm happy with anything under 140 (when the major alarm bells go off!) According to the online calculators, my BMI (FWIW) is about 24.3--just below the "overweight" category--but I know I have more muscle weight than the average woman, so I factor that in. Best of all, I'm eating what I consider a satisfying and nutritious menu from day to day--net carbs 30-40 most days. And that seems to keep me on track.

I've finally agreed to take pool lessons from my DH. We've had a table for decades, but I've never wanted to play. Why? Dunno. He loves the game. And he's thrilled that I've changed my mind. Duchess of Doom, watch out! (That's Alison Fisher, for those of you who have not watched endless pool tournaments on tv).

Happy Friday!

Good morning

It was really foggy this morning! Today is supposed to get to the mid-70's. When I drove to work, I avoided having to turn left with no traffic signal.

After work yesterday, I stopped at my DD's to drop off a couple of pieces of mail. I visited for a few minutes and headed home. My DH was home already, I was looking for something quick to eat. He suggested going out somewhere. We went to a Italian Beef/gyros place not too far from home (about 6 miles). I really enjoyed the sandwich and salad I had. The beef was very nicely flavored. My cousin called and said my aunt (who now lives in Montana) wanted to see our house. They may stop over today.

Swam 30 minutes today. No weight losses recently.

I wish you all well.

Hi Gang!

I'm back from Maine. We went up yesterday to spend the night in a really lovely little Inn right at land's end in one of the penninsulas there. DD2 and her SO were there for a wedding he is in tomorrow. It was a really good visit. Here is a pic of the two of us.

I meant to say DD3! DD2 lives in Dallas. This one lives on SoCa with her SO.

I did fairly well with food, but had quite a bit to drink. I couldn't pass up the Maine blueberry pie, but didn't have as much dinner because I planned to eat it. The Innkeeper prepared Texas french toast this morning. Mmm. It was good! But, now back to the basics. Boy have I been foggy and dizzy since having all that sugar! Whew.

Brenda: How are you feeling today? Chase that migraine away, girl. The weather here is enough to give anyone a migraine. Cloudy and drizzly in Maine. Just plain raining here in MA.

Alida is on her way now. Hope it is a good weekend.

Barb: Nice to "hear" your perky voice too. I tend to agree on the flappy arm, thigh thing. As I age, as you can tell from the photo above, I am giving up on the flappy chin thing too. And, don't talk to me about wrinkles, any of you! I've decided that I've earned every one of them!

Shelley: Well, I hope that your new boss doesn't take too much training on the management side of things. I don't think managing adults comes naturally. It takes finesse and compassion. I hope she has both in BIG doses. Let us know.

Judy: I like you in red too! And I like your pic., though with Barb, I have a hard time making out your features because it is so small. I'm also thinking about Administrative Assistant at a church. You must have some big churches around you. Those Southern Baptists have a LOT of $$. You go, girl! I think you SHOULD retire. Don't just dream, girl! GO FOR IT!

Peace, PEg

Peg, I love your hair color and style! Very pretty and becoming.

Judy, like Peg, I thought of Church administration as a possible direction for you. But I didn't think the pay would be that good--and church office politics (Peg?) can get just as nasty as anyplace else. However, we have a talented and dedicated staff at our church, and they seem to thrive. Non-ordained positions include administrative assistants, comptroller, volunteer coordinator, director of Christian education (probably requires specialized education), Pre-school/Parents Day Out Director (we have a licensed program), and Custodial/Bldg. Maintenance director. Might be worth checking out.

In any case, don't underestimate or undervalue your talents and skills. It's easy to get beaten down in the public system. You deserve better! Go for it!

Oh gawrsh, Barb (blush)! The style is called, "getting out of bed too late to style before breakfast in the Inn." The color is one for which I pay dearly!

Hiya kiddos!

A quickie fly by for me tonight; I didn't get that laundry done last night as I had hoped, but tonight I'm a woman on a mission...laundry that is...

Wow, Barb! You did good on being our *early bird* this morning, since Alida is out of pocket. I was definitely up, but already at work at 0520 this morning. My big plan is to sleep in tomorrow morning at least until 0600 or 0630! Really, that is sleeping late for me; DH on the otherhand is on call, so we may get a 0600 wake up call. Oh well.

PEG!!!!!! Your new avatar looks maaaaahhhhvelous! And your DD is very pretty! It looks like she has your eyes. Is this DD the mom of the grankids in California that you will be able to spend time with? Cool that she is visiting in ME.

Bren, hope you are better, hun! (((hugs))).

Teel, Ilse, Judy

Alida, Donna and Rachel...miss ya'll bunches, and hope all is well

Everyone have a super weekend!

later, ladies!

Ok, for those of you that say the avatar is too little to see my features, Here's the full sized version. The photographer makes you smile so big that it gives you squinty lines around the eyes and a weird toothy grin. I think the snaps from the wedding are probably more flattering.

Peg, your new pic is great!!!

Good Morining!!!
Where is everyone....sleeping in??? Just as I suspected, DH got a call at 0630...man, was I sleeping good. He will leave for work shortly, so I think I'll go work out again this morning(did workout yesterday and usually go every other day). I have made an appt with the personal trainer for Weds, the 19th. I am hoping she can help me get through this stalled out slump I'm in. My weight has not budged since mid June, except for the little tango dance I do...up one, down one, step 2-3-4...up one, down one, step 2-3-4...yatta, yatta. Anyhoo....maybe some more intense fat burning exercises will help? Hope so.

What's on everyone's agenda today? I still have one more load of laundry to do, then I will be *free at last* LOL. Then after I work out, I think I will go in search of a Christmas tree! I know, I really don't even want to think of the holidays yet, but last year I decided I wanted one of those little scraggly looking trees that looks mostly like a *fence post* with a little greenery on it; you know the ones...soooooo ugly that they're cute? Well, I waited to late last year and they were all sold out, so I think I will make a run to Hobby Lobby or Michael's this morning and see what I can find...probably lots of stuff I don't need...LOL.

Judy, I like the new pic; I didn't mean to imply I didn't. I just liked the other one too. I love red for pics, but I also like that soft blue...I know...queen of wishey-washey...can't make up my mind Some things never change...LOL.

Everyone...hope you have a great weekend, no matter what you do. Gotta get myself in gear!

Later ladies,
(((hugs to all)))

I'm up! I'm up! Actually, I DID sleep in this morning--until almost 6:30. Must have been catching up.

Last night I went to the Scottish Dance group at our church. Lots of fun--and a sweaty workout as well. I'm not a regular, but could well get to be. All ages--all levels of skill (or NOT, in my case!)

I've made my lists for the day. First a little run, and then off to run errands. I'm looking for glass doors for our fireplace--to keep all that valuable heat from whooshing up the chimney. DH loves to burn a fire in the winter, and we get a good deal on firewood. But it doesn't help when the flue sucks the heat out of the entire house after we go to bed.

My dad ate lunch with DH and me at a favorite place yesterday. He's in fine form. I think that hospital stay was nice vacation for him! Expensive, but he's got the resources. And now he's got "proof" of a healthy heart.

Gotta run! Back later.

I scheduled too much entertaining for this week. Monday, I had a brunch for some old friends and their parent. Tonight, DH's professional colleagues come to dinner, and tomorrow, we are having some of our dance teachers over for dinner. Ack! back-to-back dinner parties? What was I thinking? (okay, it wasn't me... originally, one of the parties was set for another weekend, but the guests asked to reschedule and this was the only time that worked.)

Peg, that's a smashing picture! you look radiant, and DD looks ~so~ much like you! I'm glad you could share such a happy time together.

Barb - the Scottish country dance (or was it ceilidh dancing?) is so much fun.. BIG fun! ...and a really ~great~ calorie burner, too. That's terrific that your dad is feeling so much better so fast! He must have amazing recuperative abiilities. How goes the pool lessons? Once in a great while, I play with DH, but I only win if he "scratches". Fortunately, he's not ~that~ good, so I get to "win" once or twice a session .

Shelley, if anyone deserves to sleep in a few days, you sure do! Wow, those early calls. Takes a lot of dedication, IMO. Well done on getting the caught up on the vacation laundry! ...free at last!... LOLOL!

Speaking of chores... UGH! must go vacuum, mop, dust, rake/sweep/cook. But, I'd really rather be here visiting more... oh well...

Hi Everyone (Yawn!)

Well, it's almost 11:30 here in the East. We are seriously thinking of bringing in some wormwood and starting to build an ark. We got 10 inches of rain yesterday. The lake has overshot it's retaining wall and it slowly crawling up the hill. We have a swampy area RIGHT outside our basement sliders that is also crawling up the hill. It looks like another lake. It is raining now and I have seen different members of the Board of the condo assoc. walking along the water covered walkway shaking their heads. We are not in any danger, except for the danged ceiling that has leaked all over where it was fixed! Dang it!

Good to see you, Barb and Shelley:

Barb: We have glass fireplace doors. Unless you are thinking of something entirely different, you might rethink closing the flue before going to bed. We found that when we did that, the smoke from the still live embers set off the smoke alarms! It seeps through the cracks in the glass door. We have to leave the flue open until all sign of smoke has gone; which for us means over night. Alas.

Shelley: I was at Michaels this week. I'm sure that you can find anything Christmas you want there! It is packed! We call the kind of tree that you describe, a "Charlie Brown" tree. My DH is so cheap that one year that is what he brought home from the tree lot. (We always get a "live" tree) I made him thow it out, and I've never let him go to the tree lot alone since!

Judy: What a great picture! And, again, I say, girl don't you EVEN complain about wrinkles. I don't see what you are talking about!! I think you are beautiful. Aren't you surprised when you look at yourself now after the weight loss? I am so surprised to see the woman I am in pictures now. I have avoided having my picture taken for twenty years. Now, I beg DH to take my picture, not because I am vain (honestly), but because I just can't believe it is me! Even at the nearly twenty pounds from goal I am now, I have lost the double chin. Yay! You can see it beginning to grow on my DD3. She is mortified. But, she isn't ready to do anything about it yet. That's okay. She will. When she is ready.

Brenda: How's the head, my friend?? I hope that you have gotten some relief from that headache. Though I know that when it takes hold of you it sometimes doesn't let go for a week or so. Post if you can open your eyes. We want to know how you are doing.

I'm waiting for Rachel to call. I know that she is in MA., but I suspect that she is having a great time with family. We may see each other next week. I'm anxiously awaiting her.

Terry: What do you think about Barb doing Scottish dancing??!! How about that? How are you doing this weekend? What are you doing?

Donna is still away on "holiday." I get a kick out of her trek to gamble! I am way too cheap to spend my dollars that way. But, I know it is a real entertainment for some people.

I'm working through my "list" to do before we leave. Most of the roads around here are flooded, so I won't be doing any errands today. Luckily we have pretty good storm drains, and if the rain would ever stop falling, perhaps they could handle it. In the ever positive thought about the weather that Yankees have, they are saying, "Just think if this had been snow??!!" I'm just sick of the entire thing.

Peace, Peg
