| Bren, I'm glad you heard that Ted Kooser program. Dang, I missed it! That was Part One. Our workshop will be featured on Part Two a couple of weeks from now. I'll try to give everyone a heads-up. Belated Happy Birthday! You share my sister's day. Shelley, that looks like a real space-saver tree. I made a bad weather decision yesterday. I drove my Miata (top down) to work in spite of the possibility of "rain late." I had a long driving errand to do in the middle of the day--and got caught in a downpour. I put the top up--but, of course, it still has a big hole in it (courtesy of the criminal). I had patched it badly with duct tape. So I'm driving down the interstate at 60mph hanging onto that flap with my right hand to keep it from flying open and drenching the interior of my car. Luckily, the duct tape held well enough to enable me to hold the flap (mostly) shut. A highly dangerous maneuver, but all's well that ends well. I'm getting a new top next week. So far today, no excitement. But then, it's not even 6 a.m. yet. There's still time! Hope nothing too exciting--except in a good way--happens to anybody here today! |

| I'm running in ......... and out almost as quick I swear I had an Aca Dec nightmare last night. I hate having school dreams. But, if I don't get up and go dry my hair, I'll be late for work, and that will be another nightmare. Sometime in the next few days I'm going to have to write my annual "state of the body" message. It's just about anniversary time. Happy Birthday yesterday, Brenda.

| Good morning! Barb: I'm sorry but, at you driving down the highway holding your top flap closed! It WAS dangerous, though. Glad you made it safely. Bob got caught in that rain, too. He was going to the golf course to try out his new club. He waited a little too long!Brenda, Glad you had a nice Birthday Celebration with more to come this weekend. LOL about the Scottish Pub Knit-Ins! It does sound like fun. If I recall the pubs I visited in Scotland . . . they were pretty dark. Add some libations on top of that and I wonder what the knitting looks like! I have done the mailbox run in my bathrobe, but that's earlier in the day. Sheesh. What would people think of me still in my bathrobe at noon! Thank goodness it's more or less in front of our house. Some people have to walk half a block. Glad I don't have trouble sleeping. That Valerian sounds awful. Peg, Cokesbury! I have ordered from them before. Thought they were just books. Thanks for the tip! I'll call Mark's wife to get some ideas. The purple stole may be a good idea with Christmas coming up. Don't forget to take your camera with you when you have lunch with Rachel tomorrow! Shel: I love your tree! And ditto the picture decorated! Nuts about the personal trainer. Hope she is feeling better on Friday! It will be interesting to hear what she has to say. And thanks for your sleep recipe. I'll print it out (along with Brenda's too) and file it away. One never knows . . . . Terry: How's that cream working out? And have you made a final decision about the type of flooring you want? Judy: Your note was short, but sweet. "State of the Body" Message? Oohh. Is this something you do every year? I totally missed my first year anniversary! Sorry you had an AcaDec nightmare. It must weigh on you to have it show up in your dreams. Was it an "unprepared" or "frustration" dream? I hate those! Well, I miss my Survivor Buddy, Donna. Hope she's having a fabulous time! And Peg, we will want a full Rachel Report! Don't know where the day went yesterday. Did some laundy and template cutting. Yes, it's a bear to cut. Lots of little tiny angles in the trees. Have to stop frequently to rest my index finger! Another Chicago Pound lost . . . but still too close to where I was at the start of BTB! Today I get my hair cut. Was originally scheduled last Thursday but was on my way to Chicago. Have a great day!

| Good morning everyone! I hope all is well with all of you. I guess I'm doing a bit better on the pain front. I am very careful when I swim. I do the backstroke and do not forward swim (like an exaggerated dog paddle to stretch everything out), as that seems to tire out the knees more quickly and then they hurt the rest of the day. I also have to focus on not sleeping or laying on my side as doing that really makes the knees hurt. I do best (pain-wise) when sleeping on my back, but it doesn't seem natural to me. Yesterday, I stopped at a supermarket that reminds me of Whole Foods Market. This place (over by Geneva Commons, Brenda) carries organic stuff, however, no supplements. The store is quite a bit smaller than Whole Foods. I bought three flavors of scones to try (and share with my DH). They were reasonably priced and tasted ok. I had to find a new way to get to work today. I think they started shaving the road during rush hour. Traffic was all backed up, so I turned around and found another way. The autumn colors were just beautiful along that road too. (RT 25 going between S. Elgin and St Charles, Brenda) I got gas for $2.51 yesterday. I haven't seem anything less anywhere. Many stations are still in the $2.70's. I did my 30 minutes swimming. I hope you have a wonderful day!

| I lost some posts yesterday, I guess. At least, I don't see them... I have to leave for an anppointment pretty soon, so this is a quick fly-by. The cream for the lesion on my hand isn't doing anything yet. But, judging by the pictures in the educational pamphlet, it will look pretty icky next week. It's not huge, about .5" x .3" with 2 to 3 dome-shaped bumps with dry spots (scabs?) in the center. I sent the quote for tile replacement to the fumigation company. The quote is for replacement with "like kind" tile. But, we are strongly leaning to replacing it with wood. Ack! the clock! I've got to go...

| Ilse, so sorry about the bad knees. That's a mobility limitation that puts a damper on just about everything. Hope the swim therapy brings some relief over time. Do you use a pillow between your knees when sleeping on your side? How about under your knees when you're on your back? The pillow definitely helps ease the back--but could also cushion and relax the knees. I sleep very comfortably on my back--but (according to DH) that's when I snore. So he gives me a shove. Same with him, by the way! ![]() Judy, at first I read state of the body massage. I think a massage would be an excellent thing for the state of your body--and stress level--right now. Why not treat yourself? |

| Barb, yes I'd like to know when the next segment is on... Oh my, I'm sure your adventure in flap holding wasn't any fun, but I had to chuckle...it sounds so like something I would do. Judy, you are working toooo hard! State of the Body--yes, I remember last year. Something we all should do. I read "massage" like Barb the first time. I thought, "you go, girl!" Alida, I would consider waking up at 3am a real sleep problem Yes, knitting and pint quaffing might produce some interesting garments, don't you think??? Ilse, so far yes, I've managed to knit an ill-fitting sweater and an oversized pair of socks....I suppose by default that makes me a granny type TB, rats on the lost posts. Just think of how many homeless posts there are out there in cyber space. Interesting cream, and I am delighted there is a non-invasive treatment for some cases. Native Americans (hmm, anyway some culture somewhere) made a salve out of bloodroot for topical application of growths and tumors, and I understand there's some research toward finding the active ingredient(s). Peg, I thought of you yesterday evening. After dinner DH and Dad dropped me off at Coldwater Creek for a few minutes while they ran an errand. Beautiful--it had been a while since I'd been in one of their stores. Unfortunately, the menfolk returned before I could do any damage. Saw a buttery leather jacket and a suede vest I could have worn....... Well successful birthday celebration except for major tummy pains last night. No, I ate reasonably and not overmuch, but the semi-grilled onions spent the night toiling in my stomach and today exiting. Enough said.... More lively music on the stereo today, but now I have a brain worm... "The lyin' - will set you free, You go crazy in the third degree" Somehow the idea of "going crazy in the third degree" tickles me. As opposed I presume to going crazy in the first or second degree I think I've been crazy in all the above!Later kids!

| Bob is at a late appointment, so thought I'd pop in. Ilse, I know what you mean when you say sleeping on your back is "not natural." After my wrist surgery I had to sleep on my back for a few days. TTL I had BIG DRUGS to take which knocked me out. Barb has a good suggestion about trying a pillow to relieve the pressure on your knees. Have you tried that? And I can see where the back stroke is better. You can just let your legs dangle and use your arms. Bet you have strong arms! Brenda, LOL. The 3 am wake up is only occasionally. Thank goodness! The usual is 4:30. And it's really not a sleep problem per se, because I fall asleep around 8 PM! I am so glad Survivor is at 7! Sorry you had tummy pains. Semi-grilled onions can be hard to digest. Both DH and I cannot eat raw onions. Oh for the stomach of childhood! LOL about the Brain Worm. That happens all the time! But because of my hearing, I don't get the words right. I'd probably think the lyrics were The lion will let you be You go crazy as a bee. Swiss Cheese hearing is a real PITA. A doctor once described my hearing like that. I hear the words, but there are "holes" here and there and my brain will fill in the holes with an appropriate word. But usually the word provided by my brain is anything but! Barb, you snore? So do I. Only started a few years ago. And that's exactly what I gave my DH permission to do -- give me a shove. I tried those nose strips and nasal spray. Neither worked. TB, sorry you lost some posts. That is so aggravating! Rachel got so angry, she started typing her posts in Word then copied and pasted! Will the wood floor be more or less than the "like kind" tile? I look at this as manna (mana??) from heaven. You will get what you really want and most of it will be paid for! I imagine the cream will take time to work it's magic. I do hope that's all you will need. Judy, I think Barb and Brenda have a good idea! Full Body Massage. Go for the two hour one. You will definitely have pleasant dreams! I had my hair cut today and my hairdresser recently sold his salon. He still works there. But they fancied the place up quite a bit and now offer massages. Introductory half off. I really should remember to schedule one while the special is still on. I have a horrible habit of putting things off and then it's too late. Peg must be having a busy day! And I hope Shelley has a good one! "See" you all in the AM!

| Ah, losing the posts was my own fault. I start something and then wander off and do other things. When I got back to the PC, I just closed the windows, forgetting I hadn't hit the submit button yet. I bought a local bird ID book to supplement the fold-out ID card I got last summer. For some reason, I'm much more interested in wild birds lately. The Wild Bird store sells a patio-mix of hulled and broken sunflower seeds that most of the little birds seem to like. So, that solves my problem with the mess and weeds regular bird seed makes. It seems that a black squirrel likes the stuff, too. And, he is burying acorns and pinecones in my potted plants. I swear, if the little bugger wasn't so cute... Anyway, Boomer likes to sit by the window and chitter at the squirrel. He doesn't chitter at the birds, for some reason. The only other time he chitters is when I sneeze. I think it's like a gezhundheit - what else could that be? Brenda - I think that was pretty heroic of you to get out of Coldwater Creek without buying anything! I know that is ~way~ hard to do! Leather jackets and vests sound very nice for about this time of year. Quote:
Whoa, Barb - that image of you coping with both the rain and a flapping roof at highway speeds is pretty hairraising. But, you were quite cool-headed in a tight situation. Still, as the weather is turning, is there another car you can drive until the top is fixed on the Miata? Alida, some days it just feels great to hang out in the jammies! And, if you are working at home, why not? Me too, me too! on wanting to see your next stencil. I love looking at your work. I can imagine how much your finger was hurting during a prolonged stencil cutting session. I never ended up using it, but last year I got an electric stencil cutter when I was doing my window shades. I got mine at a local hobby shop for about $30, but I'm sure you can get them for less. Here are a couple that turned up on a Google search: http://www.brewersewing.com/34008.htm http://www.etchworld.com/item--Elect...utter--85-1710 Maybe you could go to a hobby shop and ask if they'll let you try one before you buy it? Quote:
Peg, I don't think you'll find a lack of donut shops when you're in California, even if there aren't any Dunkin Donuts. There seems to be a donut shop on just about every other corner in San Jose. And, if it's all about the coffee, you can order it online, I'm sure. I mean, you can buy ~anything~ online these days. I know how important it is to have your preferred brand of coffee - I hate most coffee shop coffee, so I take a bag and brew cups when I'm on the road. I favor Peets coffee these days, but I think that chain is local to the SF Bay Area. Lovely stuff.

| Oh mi gawd, Alida: Quote:
I've been lurking all day. Been reading your posts. Been trying to get things done so we can leave. I'm getting really stressed about whether I will have everything I'm going to need for 6 months. Not to mention, what happens if the corporate company who are procuring our apartment don't do it! Every time I have asked about it the answer I've gotten is: "Don't worry, it will be ready." But, they can't guarantee it until after Nov. 1st. So good to hear from all of you. Please forgive me for not answering all of you. I promise you that I will be better tomorrow. I'll try. I have to leave to see Rachel at 11:30 in the morning. I shouldn't say "have to" I don't mean that. I'm really looking forward to it. Don't worry, I'll take my camera. Peace, Peg

| TB, I think bird watching around the house is a very calming as well as interesting experience. Sometimes you can see the families, get to know little personalities. But squirrels! The dogs delight in chasing them, and the squirrels seem to delight in being pursued. They go just far enough up the tree to prevent being dinner, and proceed to chatter and shake their tails at the girls....neener, neener! You know, I think there's a Peet's in Evanston (northern Chicago burb). (?)When I was participating in a study at Northwestern a few years ago, it seems like I got my latte fix at a Peets after Whatever it was, it was good stuff and I deserved it at that point. Shell, woo, another big workout. Making me look bad, Okie sister. Ok, I'm sure I snore, too, but certainly only dainty, petite girly snerts.....DH on the other hand....... Alida, LOL! That particular song is on a BodyPump class CD. I listened to it in class for a year and thought it said "The lion will set you free." Was I surprised when I had the opportunity to buy the CD and saw the title. I had visions of people in circus cages with the lions freeing them.... Here is my favorite site for mondegreens (misheard lyrics). Some of them make me hysterical. Kiss This Guy LOL, here's one of my fav's (sorry, can't help "sharing") Real lyric: Amazing Grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me Heard as: A grazing mace how sweet the hound that saved a wrench for me Speaking of amazing, but not graceful--had a wonderful sock class tonight, yes, yet another! Toe up, with one 40 inch circular needle. Whew! On that note, I depart!
