I'm baaaaackkkk....LOL...soup was good and the scrubs got ironed...mission accomplished

Now, I feel like I can sit and *chat* awhile.

Alida...bummer you had to work today...yipee on the $$$ though. Perhaps you are home by now and you decided to let your DH live to see tomorrow???
Hope it went well.

Teel, thanks for the shot in the arm about the exercise. I know in my heart it's doing SOME good for SOME part of my body...it's just hard for the brain to accept that the measurment numbers didn't change that much, yanno?
Any word on the floor job yet?

Brenda, I was going to comment on those knitting needles. My mom used to knit with the circular needles. She made several knee length sweaters and sold them for a handsome price way back in the mid 60's. She used the prettiest thick and thin yarn and the finished sweater had a great nubby type texture. The three I remember the most was the cranberry, snow white, and black ones she made. She got pretty speedy by the 3rd or 4th one. I don't recall the reason she stopped knitting; probably due to her work schedule though. Anyhoo....hat's off to you missey! I would surely get everything into a tangled mess with those needles!

Barb, I agree with the others...your new outfit sounds snazzey. I also like navy with pink. From what I've seen in the stores at the mall, very vivid colors are the thing this fall. When I was in administrative nursing and had to wear suits, pantyhose and heels.....eeewwww......I had some of the Investment brand pieces. I also liked the way their skirts fit as I recall.

Donna, Happy Anniversary! Your a *newlywed* though...I've been hitched to the same fellow for over 31 years! Hope you had a lovely celebration.
Also sending good thoughts for a quick recovery for your DDIL.

Peg, LOL at forgetting to save some space for DH's clothes. I almost did the same thing on vacation this year. I kept thinking, "gee, I have a lot of room left over in this suitcase"...then it dawned on me...duh....hadn't put DH's essentials in yet! Every year I tell DH I am going to quit packing for him, and every year I do it anyway. He would be more than glad to pack his own bag, but being the perfectionist I am, it's just better that I do all the packing. I know...I need to let that go...maybe someday soon...<sigh>.

Judy, Go for it!!! A JP...woohoo! I don't get the connection of the coroner's office to the JP unless you just have to go out and *varify* it's a DB, then order that an autopsy be done? Anyway, I think you would do most excellent in politics. And I'm thinking at some point, you just might make a good candidate for mayor!!! I'm serious!
Of course that wouldn't really be much of a retirement...jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

Rachel...still missin' ya! I bet you are having a blast...good for you!

Ilse...hope your weekend was good.

We have an early case in the morning, so it will be a 0400 wake up time for me...aacckkk. Sure hoping for some good news tomorrow about my co-worker. I did read a story on the net that they might be able to evacuate some of the tourists back to the states tomorrow if the water recedes some. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Later, ladies......

S.

Donna, Looks like I may be the last to chime in and welcome you back. I'm so glad you had a safe trip, found lots of goodies in US grocery stores, didn't lose your life savings, and most of all that you didn't gain any pounds while you were away. I hope your DIL is doing better. I was sorry to hear that she has continued to have such a hard time.

Quote:

Shelley, that''s pretty close. The JP has to go out on any death that does not have a doctor in attendance to verify cause of death and determine if an autopsy is needed. That includes wrecks, shootings, you name it. As far as I know the JP does not have to call the family --- but I guess I better check on that one.

Here's the official Texas Job description:
Quote:
Justice of the Peace
The justice of the peace is the legal jurisdiction closest to the average citizen.

Section 19 of Article 5 of the Texas Constitution provides that: justice of the peace courts have original jurisdiction in criminal matters of misdemeanor cases punishable by fine only and such other jurisdiction as may be provided by law. Original jurisdiction is the authority to accept a case at its inception, try it and pass judgment based upon the laws and facts. This is distinguished from appellate jurisdiction which is jurisdiction to review a court's action. The justice of the peace performs the functions of a magistrate and conducts inquests.

A justice of the peace may issue warrants for search and arrest, conduct preliminary hearings, administers oaths, perform marriages and serve as a coroner in counties where there is no provision for a medical examiner. The justice court also functions as a small claims court in civil matters in which exclusive jurisdiction is not in district or county court and the amount in controversy does not exceed $5,000. They can also deal with matters concerning foreclosure of mortgages and enforcement of liens on personal property.
Hey Shelley, post the soup recipe that you made tonight............

BTW, I can top you in the longest running marriage category --- DH and I will celebrate number 34 in December.

Barb, you have encouraged me to go find my copy of DANDR. I think it's time for a re-read.

Peg, I'm still working on the image problem. I think I know a work around --- I'll just have to remember the password to the web server. I'll let you know
when I get it figured out.

We just bought an external USB hard drive. When connected to your computer, you can copy stuff onto it like a giant floppy drive. You might consider one of those as a way to handle your issues with documents and information from the big computer to the lap top. Let me know if you still are needing help. I'll get Bobby (DH --- how weird is it that so many of us have Robert husbands???) to write some step by step instructions for you.

Teel, we got some cooler weather this weekend, too. It was quite cool all day, but in the spirit of disbelief, I refuse to wear a jacket yet. And, Peg, I know you will appreciate this.......... I am still holding out on wearing hose. I guess I would if I put on a skirt, but I can still do the slide in shoes with pants and get by. Heck, for something different, I might just decide to wear a skirt and hose tomorrow.........

Barb, you are my kind of shopper. I'm all about the bargains, and I love TJ Maxx. I just love the satisfaction of having a new outfit.

And Brenda............. Ok, I'll go post the latest updat for the rest of the world to see. Barb, I'm not so sure about being the latest poster child. I don't think I want ot be a headline kind of girl.

Dang it, I still can't get the image to work right. I think I'm going to have to see if Andrea can put it up somewhere or tell me what I am doing wrong.

Thanks, Judy. And, thanks for posting your "state of the body" in the Atkins thread. You are an inspiration for me.

And, Brenda......about those baked goods? Too late. Sorry.

Peg, it happens. I also agree with Judy.

Judy, thanks for the logo. Maybe by tomorrow I'll remember how to capture it for a siggy. Oh, I think you'd make a great poster girl, as well as a fine JP.

Edit: I forgot to mention my Dad's always been called Bob. LOLOL!!!

Thumbs up Good morning, Everyone

It's BTB for me! You can hardly call it deprivation when you start the day with bacon and an omelet cooked in butter. Still, I have some habits to break--that glass of wine after work, f'rinstance, which sometimes becomes two glasses--and not a dinky 5 oz. portion either. Now ya know. Induction, here I come.

I've also decided to be a bit more systematic with my workouts, in order to track some "progress" if any. I'm liking Jari Love's total body DVD called "Ripped," and plan to do that MWF. In the a.m TTh, I'll do some kind of cardio at home, with a run on Sat. And also, if possible, add some walk time in the middle of the day. I just need to get moving!

I've "only" got five lbs to drop--but will aim for my perennial goal of 128, which is nine lbs away. Now I'm off to Fitday for honesty's sake.

I'll check in here later today. Good week, everyone.

I'm sorry about the logo............. I have no idea what is happening with it. It was working fine last night, and now it is showing the Tripod icon again. I'll see if I can figure out something with it today. If anyone has a web page --- that's not so screwy--- and would like to post it, I'll send the image to you and maybe we can use it from there. This would be soooo much easier if images for signatures could be uploaded just like avatars.

Good morning!

Thank God it's Monday, LOL! That job yesterday took EIGHT hours and when I got home I was walking like a 90-year-old cripple. I bit my tongue so many times it was bloody. But when my assistant arrived at 1 PM and Bob left (another Bob!) we did kiss goodbye. That's a victory. I was also "Bobbed." That's a term my assistants and I use when Bob screws up. This time he forgot to measure 3 windows. I had some "offcuts" to use for those windows. But I did mess up another window and had to cut a 109" piece out of the box. Usually not a problem, but Talbots had all their employees there unpacking boxes of clothes. Boxes everywhere. I finally found a space in a back hallway. Whew! (Barb, the new Plaza Talbots is where the toy store used to be).

DONNA!!!! Welcome home! It does sound like you will need a rest after your vacation! I hear you about all that driving. But you did not GAIN! Wow!! That sure is a testament to your will power, especially with your DH's eating habits while driving. And your poor daughter-in-law. An infection? Perhaps caused by something not done right during the first operation?? (Shel: is this something that should be investigated . . . or something that can "just happen" through no fault of the doctor or hospital?)

If you go back to work today, I'll guess you'll find out if you got a raise. Looking forward to that post!

And, Happy Anniversary!!

If I count BOTH husbands, I have been married for 35 years.

Barb:
Quote:
The funeral I attended this afternoon was 90 minutes of remembrances--of someone I never met. Now that I've heard all about him, I'm not sure I would have wanted to.

I love brown and pink together. Your outfit sounds HOT. Are you wearing that Saturday at Henry's Pot Luck?

I have yet to go shopping this Fall. I really don't need anything. And I feel I should probably save my money for new job clothes . . . whatever they may be . . . and for whenever I get around to actually finding one!

Are you feeling better after your heartburn from hell? Wonder where that came from. Did you eat anything different? I used to take Nexium, but I guess eating LC has fixed that problem for me. Occasionally, I do get a spell or two, but I keep some Prilosec around and a day or two of taking that and I'm OK again.

Re: Dillard's Investment pants. What department is this line in? Are they available in Petites? One brand that seems to work for me is Jones Signature Petites.

Your post this AM magically appeared. So it's back to induction? Good for you! I sorta forgot that little paragraph in Atkins about not just cutting back but doing induction to get the ball rolling. Maybe I'll think about it again after Henry's Pot Luck! You HAVE to try some of my Aunt Ruth's Pecan Cake!! Or maybe take some home and have it after induction.

Judy: I'll have to admit if I saw that JP job description, I would have passed it by because I would just assume I am not qualified. But you would be GOOD at it! It would be a challenging but rewarding job!

Gotta admit I'm confused about the top of mind logo and the tripod logo . . .

And again, your State of the Body is wonderful! Glad you posted it on the regular thread.

Ah! Pantyhose and skirts! I honestly can't remember when I last wore a skirt! And pantyhose are tough to put on with my fused wrist. Too much tugging because I do prefer the tummy control ones. I can get them on first thing, but then when I think about all the on/off for potty breaks, I take them right off!

Peg, your poor prayer shawl! And after all this talk about it, what exactly is a prayer shawl????

Quote:
about those baked goods? Too late. Sorry.

So, what did the scale say today? BUT, not eating it all IS a victory!! And I think I could never throw out a whole bag of M&Ms. That used to be my favorite munch in the car.

Speaking of scales, I am back down to my BTB sig weight of 132.5. HOORAY!

Shelley: Please do post that soup recipe! And I still have my fingers crossed too, that your co-worker is able to be evacuated today.

Bummer on that 0400 wake up call! I do take it that's what time you get up, and not the time you have to be at the hospital, correct? Whoa. If you had to be at the hospital at 4 am, that would truly be a BIG Bummer.

Good for you to start tracking again! As long as your honest (Peg & Alida?) it should really help you! With no exercise, I find I do best around 1200-1300 calories. But you are exercising your little behind off, so 1500-1800 sounds right. Are you using Fitday or Diet Power?

Terry:
Quote:
putting your pic on the resume sounds like a good way to show how vibrant and energetic you are these days.
Boy! I sure don't feel very vibrant and energetic this AM after yesterday's install!

Your trees turning sound glorious! We had an odd day yesterday. A few hours of sunny and blue skies, then cloudy and cold.

Have you gotten the OK from the fumigation co. yet?

Rachel, if you read this -- hope you are having a wonderful time in the good old USA! Funny that when your HERE it's harder to post than when your THERE in Georgia!

Brenda: Marjorie took a wrong turn in St. Louis? Well, I guess that's easy to do. Avoiding St. Louis is one reason why Bob and I always go through Des Moines to get to Chicago (north on I-35 then east on I-80.)

And, did I read correctly that you finished a PAIR of socks????

Know too well the feeling of just wanting a blankie, a pet, a book and a bed! That, to me, is pure heaven!

Oh! I finally put Cross Bones on my library Wait List. I got a catalog in the mail a few day ago about a mystery book club. I don't want to get involved in that, but it did give me oodles of titles to wait list! And speaking of the library . . . when I went before our trip to Chicago, I got a book on tape so we could listen to it in the car. I got home before I realized I only have a CD player in the car! Do they do books on CDs???

Even though I do not have a job today, I have lots to do to prepare for a busy week. Plus, I am going out to dinner with "the girls" tonight. I also have to run to my jeweler. The night before we left for Chicago I was cleaning my jewelry. While drying my ring, I felt movement. The diamond dropped down right out of the prongs! It did not fall out of the setting, TTL. Wonder how long it was like that? My God. I am so lucky I did not lose the stone! The maximum I get on our insurance rider would not have covered the cost of replacement. But then I think, well, it would cover the cost of a new furnace/AC and driveway. Hmm. I may take a pair of diamond earrings I never wear with me and ask him how much he'd give me for them. His company sold them to me. Custom made. Anyone have a good idea for selling good jewelry?

Well, it's been lovely chatting with you all, as usual! Gotta get my day started. Have a good one! XXOO

Alida, my sister does all her jewelry business with Meierotto's. (They LOVE to see her coming!) I'd look into getting a price for your diamonds from them.

You bet I'll try the pecan cake! I saw Henry at church on Sunday, and we were both grinning from ear to ear.

I was married in 1969--on the day of the first footstep on the moon. Not counting my arrival on the moon that day!

Do they deal with "gently used" jewelry??? Hmm. I think I may have worn these about 10 times in about 10 years! Kinda interesting. Diamond studs with 2 types of jackets.

My jeweler is Diamond Expressions. I started with them when they were just a hole in the wall. They were recommended to me by the company we got the diamond from. I wanted a custom-made ring and Tim Gwin, the designer there is ab fab. Now the co. is owned by Richard Dolginow (of Dolgin's). He bought out Tim's share. Ha. They used to love to see me or Bob coming!!!

Good morning!

It seemed like a pretty quiet weekend here.

Saturday turned out pretty nice. My DH and I drove out to the new Ikea store. It's laid out differently than the one we are used to, so it seemed strange. I needed to sit a lot, some place that was possible, some it wasn't. I guess we will have to go there more often to get a feel for the place. We walked around downtown Naperville for a while. There were some interesting stores there. We had lunch at a Mongolian restaurant. It's a place where you pick out your own meat and veggies and sauce and they cook it in front of you. They don't use woks, rather a large, round circular cooktop. The meal was served with flour tortillas and rice. Sunday, my DH left to go out of town. He is in the SF area right now. I picked up my grandson to take him to the botanic garden. We drove a scenic route for a while. I got gas and a car wash. The gas was $2.28 with the wash or $2.48 without. We eventually got to the garden. It was lightly raining on and off. My DGS had ab agenda of places he wanted to see. I did more walking than I expected, but managed it ok, as long I could sit and rest when I needed to. He wanted to see the spiders on the roller coaster at Great America, so, even though Great America is north of the Botanic Garden, we drove up there. Then, we headed back south. I wanted to get some food from a Japanese place. We meandered over there. I got the food I wanted and my DGS got a couple of eggrolls. We both enjoyed the food. I eventually brought him home. My DGD was still in the same PJ's she was wearing that morning. I guess they had had a sleepy sort of relaxing day.

Well, the next period is about to start, the students will be in here soon!

Take care all!
