Morning all,

This will be a quickie (yeah, I always say that!) because my just washed hair will need to be dried very soon.

Judy, I recommend PM'ing Maggie. She has the most experience putting logo's on the board, and I believe she hosts many of them.

Barb, Alida, the Investments pants seem to be a Dillard's brand; too bad for me, but perhaps some time in travel I'll get a chance to shop According to Dillard's web site, though, Alida, they do come in Petite. Good news for you, anyway. I guess I'll have to be satisfied to have found perfect jeans, which is what I wear most, anyway.

Alida, beautiful earrings! No clues as to how to get the best price, since I've never had much in the way of "good" jewelry. I do see beautiful pieces of "estate" jewelry at various places including Marshall Fields here.

And yeah, Marjorie took a wrong turn in St. Louis, and I think headed your way for a while before she realized it, LOL!

Isn't it funny how many of us enjoy mysteries? And here I thought it was my little guilty pleasure....

TB, I will be hosting Marjorie only in the sense that she'll be staying in my home--however Dad has his own little apartment area downstairs. They do their own cooking and what not there (LOL on the "whatnot"--TMI?) so my duties consist of being polite.

Shell, glad I could bring back some pleasant memories with the picture of circular needles. Your Mother's sweaters sound lovely.

Peg, Ilse, Donna, everyone Must get hair dry before I turn into the wicked witch of the midwest.

'mornin', all. Wow, I really slept late today - it was about 8:45 ish before I got up. I don't know what's really up with that; I usually am awake by 7:30, even if I stayed up late reading the day before. Anyway, I've got to keep this short, so I don't miss the whole morning.

I should hear from the fumigation company today about the floors. DH faxed the quote almost a week ago and John (from the fumigation company) said he would get back with by "by Friday, at the latest".

We celebrated DHs birthday this weekend. I got him a rather nice, but not catastropfically expensive shelf stero. After a couple of tries, he still hadn't succeeded in setting up our old component system, so I thought something simple would be a relief. He didn't seem too thrilled with it, but then he wouldn't tell me what he might ~really~ like, so... it's partly on him, eh?

After ~forcing~ myself to sit down and do it (with many sighs and much eye rolling); I finished off the Asilomar workshop orders, got them signed and faxed back. I do not understand why I hated doing it so much, but I did.

This is my last year on the committee ( :jumpgreen )

Fall shopping, sigh ... sounds like there's a lot of nice stuff out there. I really should but, I'm holding off. I really don't like to buy clothes when I'm above my goal weight. Which is a big savings, really, as I haven't been there much since spring ( ).

Alida, the earrings are gorgeous. But I can see why they wouldn't be an everyday wearable. Meierotto's deals with everything. But if you already have a jeweler you like and trust, I see no reason to go out of your way. M's is up in the Northland.

I buy Investments pants in the Petite Dept--where they come in Regular (short) and Short (even shorter!) I find that Regular works fine for my very short legs, because I like the hem to hang low over medium or high heels--not at the ankle--for a longer leg. Don't like a highwater look. I'm guessing the Jones Store brand would be similar.

Got the FAX from the quack with my cholesterol detail:
Total 239 (this is a bit on the high side of reference <200)
Triglycerides 43 (reference <150 mg)
HDL 120 (extremely high with reference of >39)
LDL 110 (within reference of <130, <100 is considered ideal)
Chol/HDL ratio 2.0
LDL/HDL ratio .92 (ref <3.25)

I'll copy Brenda's figures here for comparison:
Triglycerides: 58
Total Cholesterol: 192
HDL: 90
LDL: 90
CHOL/HDLC Ratio: 2.1

You can see that both of us fall well within healthy ranges, based on the reference units, except for my total cholesterol--which is not so bad after all, considering the amount of it that is HDL ("the good stuff"). And very low triglycerides.

A lot goes into these figures. Heredity is No.One, I think. Exercise is definitely Number Two. Well behind come nutritional habits, but LC doesn't cause high cholesterol OR (obviously) high triglycerides--especially in us pear-shaped women. My appt. with the doc is Nov 3.

Maybe I can drop the "extra" 10 lbs. by then?? Once a loser, always an idealist!

Hi Gang!

Just got back from some shopping. Went to the Mall! Yay! It's certainly a different experience to be shopping when you don't have any $$.

Now that we are on a new page, I'll see if the new signature with the logo shows, Judy. I don't have a web page, or I would be happy to host it.

Shelley: Yes, I hope that 4:00 am is a "get up" time for you and not a "be at work" time. Sheesh! I wouldn't know what to do if I had to get up that early. I have such a hard time getting to sleep that I would be in trouble.

Are you getting nervous about your surgery coming up this week? Oh, I just counted on my fingers! It's next week, huh? Are you getting nervous? I think that I would be a little bit.

Barb: Good luck on induction this week. I hear you about the wine. I whine for wine every night! And, yeah, I don't have a little 5 oz glass either. But, I've been limiting myself to one glass in the late afternoon and water for dinner. Just that little bit helps.

Brenda: LOL about Marjorie and Dad! You have one colorful father don't you? How old is he? I can't remember.

Oh, I just groan about you "petite" gals. I haven't worn a petite since I was in elementary school. When I was in my early 20's in the 1960's, I wore petites, I was skinny, and the fashion was short skirts. Really, that was the last time. I laughed when the "ankle" pants were popular last year. I told one salesgirl who was waxing excessively about them, that I've worn "ankle" pants most of my life! I just love the new "tall" styles. Some of them are actually too long for me! A new experience for me!

Alida: Good for you for not losing it with DH. So glad when Bob showed up. It is funny how many of us are connected to Bob's. Let's see, if I added my two marriages up, I would be coming up on 41 years! I didn't know you had been married before. Or, I probably forgot. You know, CRS!

Donna: Can't wait to year how it was your first day back. Did the boss give you that raise?

Judy: Have you gotten good input from your story? I haven't been over to the Atkins thread for a while. Maybe I'll mosey on over there and find out what everyone is saying about you. I'll come up to three years on January 1st. I've managed to lose, so far, a healthy 15 to 20 pounds depending on what month it is!

Well, it's happy hour here at the ranch. Back later.

LOL Peg, welcome to life without $$! It's an adjustment when you stop working, I'll tell you! I sooooo feel sorry for you tall gals <wink, wink> with your long legs--boohoo!!!! (where's that smilie for crocodile tears)

I do want, you, too to consider a state of the body message in January, as should all of us vets, at the anniversary of our choosing. I think Judy's message is important both for her as a review and opportunity for recommitment, as well as to the rest of us. My anniversary is April 1, which is oh, so appropriate in so many ways.

Oh, Dad (my family's Bob ) is 81. Doesn't look it or act it.

Donna, I can only imagine what your desk looked like this morning if you went to work.....I'm thinking you probably need a big ole hug about now.

TB, hope you've heard from the fumigation company by now. I hear you about not wanting to shop when you are above goal. I'm just now getting to the point of thinking about clothes again. I'm being tempted, anyway.

Well, this day was a waste of make-up, as I don't think I've accomplished much on my list. Talked to Jerry's mom, though, who had a terrible night in FLA with tornado warnings every 10 minutes, it seems. Remind me NOT to retire there, ok?

It's happy hour here, too. Happy for the furgirls, as it's time for their dinner. Sad when it takes me longer to fix theirs than DH's

Later!

Our family is "Billed." Boys named Bill coming and going!

Speaking of bills, the Time/Warner Cable Guys have come and gone, and (with any luck) life will go on as before. DH is still waiting for the other shoe to drop--namely, the arrival of the BILL. I promised him that installation was FREE, and that by eliminating SBC local and AT&T long distance, and bundling our cable/telephone/internet service, we'd be saving a few bucks a month. Let's hope it works out that way. Meanwhile, my away from home long distance, and home service in case of power outage, will be covered off by my new cellular phone, which ADDS to the total. But we had to have it. Zheesh! I'm so tired of living in the techno age. Too many decisions. And we're relatively skimpy when it comes to technology.

I did clarify that my Earthlink ISP is a partner company with Time/Warner, so I don't have to change my web address or internet access. Whew.

DH gets very nervous when I start "changing things." Especially things he doesn't even WANT to understand. Sigh.

Time to go cook up some induction friendly supper.

Hi everyone: Can you believe that my first day back at work, I slept in and I was late? lol As usual no one was here anyway to see what time I came in, but it gave me a good feeling to sneak one by on the boss.

I was pleasantly surprised to see my office so neat and orderly. Just the way I left it. Then I shut the door and found all the work had been piled in a cardboard box. I've already received a call from the press welcoming me back and telling me stories about how the boss messed up. That might just show him that my job isn't that easy. And no, I haven't gotten the raise yet....but I'm not giving up! It's going to take me probably two weeks to get caught up, but I'm not rushing and I refuse to take work home. I'd never get a thank you for it.

Last night my dh finished another wall in the front room so that only leaves one small wall to put the gyprock up. Then starts the mudding....I hear that's a real mess when it's time to sand it. It's made such a difference already having the light colour gyprock instead of the dark paneling. I can't wait to see some paint on it. We also put rock gyprock behind the gas fireplace so now maybe we can use it. It always made the wall so hot, so we stopped using it. Glass of wine, fireplace on, a fur rug on the floor....oops, my mind was running away from me there.

Our weather is just absolutely gorgeous. Trees are all changing to reds and yellows but it's still so warm. I spent part of yesterday raking leaves and pulling out dead plants and really enjoyed it. Usually it's pretty cool when I'm doing it. I've heard we're going to have a warmer than normal winter this year....sure hope so.

Brenda: Have you seen the wool out now that looks and feels like ribbon? I picked some up in Michaels while on holidays to knit a scarf. I'm not a great knitter but I thought I could handle that.

Alida: Are we allowed to add our marriages together? If so, it would be my 38th anniversary. Doesn't that just make me feel old?

Better get back to work. I really just dropped in to say HI to everyone. Talk to you all tomorrow.

Hi guys,
Well....no bobs or bills in our family...but we've got joes!

Today was pretty busy at work and tomorrow will be more so. Yes...0400 was wake up time and I had to be at work by 0520-ish. I just can't move very fast without my coffee, so I savor that mug(my only one I might add) while I am putting on my make-up and getting ready for work. There are many, many mornings I would rather stay home and have another cup of coffee for sure!
We are getting towards the end of the year and folks are getting their deductibles met, so our surgery schedule is picking up. You know...end of the year clearance sale..LOL...not really, but that's what it feels like sometimes.

Peg, I'm not really nervous about the *nose job* more than just dreading it...yanno?
Just wish it was all over and I was in the healing phase already. I must admit though, I'm NOT looking forward to having local anesthesia injected in my nose..aacckk! TMI probably

Donna....well, sounds like the boss-rat at least felt a little guilt about trashing out your office when you were gone before. Wow...all your paperwork in a cardboard box...now's that's a caring and classy guy if ever there was one...NOT!!!! LOL.
Stick to your guns, girl...drop a few subtle hints that you want to discuss salary again, and see how he reacts. YOU DESERVE A RAISE!!! Yeah...baby!!!!!

Bren, your dad is 81? Well, good for him on the activity and getting out and about!
My dad would have been 78 this year. If he were still alive, I think he would've been a *go-gitter* also. My mom would've probably been the same...she loved to travel, so I can imagine I would have had to keep tabs on them and worry about them like you do your dad.

Alida, did I understand you correctly, you got to take today off, kinda sorta? Then they rest of the week will be busy for you? Hope you got a little rest today
Congrats on the weigh in...woohoo! And oh...your ear rings are lovely! I don't wear studs very often...I'm more of a gold hoop girl...but, you know...if diamonds happen to find themselves under the Christmas tree, I wouldn't object...tehe!

Well....got to scoot...the clothes dryer bell is dinging...darn bell...but I can't ignore it...got some hang-ups I need to take out before the wrinkles set in....always something

Judy, Barb, Teel, Ilse, hi to you all...hope you are all well!

later ladies,
(((hugs to all)))

me

Hmmm.... I feel I need to weight in on a few things (nope, no Bobs). Let's see -- can we add living-together years to married years? If so, that up's my total from 18 to 27, then add in first h, 3 + 1 ... ay, fergidit; too much arithmetic, but it may explain the gray hair and wrinkles.

My September lipid report seems to be pretty typical for this group; okay, anyway:

230 - Total Cholestrol
49 - Triglycerides (I guess I have the thighs to thank for that)
75 - HDL
145 LDL

My internist says she would prefer the LDL to be under 130, but concedes that anything under 160 is good if there are no other risk factors. She belongs to the low fat/high carb fold; and was quite surprised to hear that I'm "still" eating low carb. She's not arguing with the results, just surprised.

I'm going to an AAUW dinner tonight. I'm not a member, but was recently invited to join their "gourmet" club, which is a rotating semi-potluck. I really haven't much of a clue of what AAUW women do; but they seem like good people to me. Well, I'll know more later than I know now.

Good morning (very early for me)

I have my Dr's appointment this morning and didn't know when I was going to sit down at the computer again. I don't think I will be able to swim this morning, as it's a long drive to the doctor's office during rush hour. I am supposed to meet my parents for breakfast after. (my mom's 85 and my dad is 81)

Not a good eating day Monday. However, when I picked up some food for dinner, the gentleman was telling me about a fairly nearby school district that has a new high school and at least one job opening I might qualify for. The salary is a couple of dollars an hour lower than I make now, so I'm not sure if it would be worth it. Swimming would be in the opposite direction so I'm not sure if I would be actually saving on mileage. I'm told it's about 15 miles as opposed to my 26 miles I drive now. I guess I can always check into it and see if they pay more with a BA.

Well, I wish you all a happy Tuesday.

Good Morning!

Had my dinner with the girls last night and, as usual, it was fun. There are 4 of us. We all used to work at Saks Fifth Avenue. One just had her breast removed (she's 79), another has more money than God but always complains (love her anyway) and the third just quit her job as Manager of Couture at Halls (a high-price store here in KC owned by Hallmark). Two of her sons moved to Japan and one married a Japanese woman. So we had lots to talk about and lots of laughs. Should do it more often! I had a Ceasar Salad but did have a gin and tonic. Did not get on the scale this AM! I mean, why bother? I know I am up because of the state of my ankles (water bloat).

Shelley: LOL about your end-of-the-year sale! My friend who just had her breast removed mentioned the fact of getting sick at the right time . . . beginning of the year . . . so all the treatments fall within one year. I remember my first wrist operation was in November. The second in March. Ack! If they both had been in one year, it would have been less out of my pocket!

Yes, I had yesterday "off." Should have cut film, but I'll do it this AM. My job today is not until 4 PM. I do have a 9 AM appointment with a lady about a lead job. I don't like what she chose and I don't think she'll like the final results. So I'll try to talk some sense into her!

Brenda, LOL about your Dad and Marjorie's "what not." Hey. Why not? Also had to laugh at your comment about a day being a "waste of make-up!" I agree about drying hair in a timely manner. If I wait too long before I style it with the blow dryer, it's just kinda flat. Doesn't have the same bounce, even if I re-wet it. Weird.

Terry: What is Asilomar? And what is AAUW? (AAUW sounds like "American Automated Union Workers!" Gourmet Club does sound like fun!

Good luck on having your quote OK'd. Hope there are no hassles. And a Shelf Stereo sounds like a very nice gift to me!

Barb, took my ring in to be fixed and my jeweler does not buy old jewelry. I did check the yellow pages, and there are several here in Johnson County. When I have time, I'll check it out for grins. I am not selling them if I can't get a good price. I am not that desperate.

Whoops. The pants I liked are not Jones Store brand, but Jones NEW YORK Signature line. However, I do buy them at The Jones Store!

Good job on the cholesterol! (You, too, Bren!) I GOTTA get mine done. It's been about 4-5 years. Last I knew it was 215.

Just yesterday, Bob handed me a flyer on the Time Warner deal. Looking into it. Ya know what will get you? The taxes, franchise fees, access fees, yadda, yadda, yadda. Got to get the pencil to the paper and figure out exactly what we do pay each month for cable, AOL and SW Bell . . .

Does anyone know off hand if you can get two cell phones with the same number? Currently Bob and I each have our own cell phone. It's more of an emergency type of phone. We hardly ever use them. But if we could share the number . . . and lessen the monthly cost, having one number for two phones just may work for us.

Donna: Ah. The dreaded box behind the door! Ack! You mentioned the "press" already called to welcome you back. Do you mind explaining what the press has to do with your job? I thought you worked for a trucking firm? Or do I have this all wrong???

Ohh! Your front room sounds like it is finally happening! LOL about daydreaming about using the fireplace. Fur rug, eh?

You also remind me of getting outside to clean up the yard. What does one do with Hostas? Cut them back?

Peg, I see the logo showed up. Is the issue resolved? I do have a web site if needed.

Yes, I was married for 7 years in Chicago. I KNEW as I walked down the aisle that it was a mistake. Stupid things one does when young. As a matter of fact, the comment I made to my mom as we drove to the church was "I'm getting married and I'm not even pregnant." Where did that thought come from????

Gotta agree with Brenda. People with long legs do not get my sympathy! But I do understand you have problems, too! My daughter-in-law is very tall. She ALWAYS has trouble with pants and arm lengths.

Judy, Ilse, HI!

This is sorta quick for me. I have to leave and start cutting film.

Have a great day!

Shelley, I'm chuckling about the end-of-year surge in surgery. Those "emergency" tummy tucks?? Of course, it's not amusing for you to make up for everyone's procrastination. Since I have a FLEX account this year, I'm one of those keeping track of the deductibles, etc. I'm sure we'll use up our account on routine stuff before the end of the year.

Alida, my heart sinks imagining a bride heading down the aisle with that kind of thought. But it happens a lot, I'm sure. I was so excited to be marrying my guy that I didn't even want to bother with a wedding. Besides, my sister was married the month before, with the "full court press" wedding. We had a nice ceremony in the church after Sunday service, with family, and a party for friends afterwards. It was a great day--and it "took." (My sister's 1st did not, although she got two great kids out of it.)

That sister's son married a Japanese woman while he was teaching there on the J.E.T. program. They now have two adorable little girls and live in NJ. He's finishing his PhD and would like to get a job where they could live part-time in both countries.

AAUW is the American Association of University Women. It's a very prestigious organization--or used to be, when university women were a select and elite segment among women. Now, like many women's organizations, it's getting a bit gray-haired, from my observation. I've never been a member, but they work at recruiting, for obvious reasons.

The Miata goes into the shop today to get a new top. Wonder if I should spring for a storage space for the winter? Probably not. You never know when one of those glorious winter days will show up and beg for a cruise in the fresh air.

Day Two of induction. I think I have time to whomp up a little tuna salad before I get ready for work.

Have a fine day everyone.

Hi Gang!

Well, we are in the midst of a wild Nor'easter. I have almost every light on upstairs here because it is so dark outside. The wind is whipping the rain around and there are even thunderstorms predicted. It's the outer edge of Wilma and Alpha, they say on the TV. The Cape and Nantucket are getting hammered. We are 50 miles West of the coast and it's really howling here.

Alida: So, what did you do with your day yesterday? You didn't work. That's super. I can't imagine cutting film all day with the arthritis in my hands. How do you do it with your fused wrist? I hope you have a knife with a big handle. My rheumatologist sent me home with a catalog of "assistive" devices for the disabled. I got so depressed reading it that I decided that I am not THAT disabled. (wheelchairs and etc.)

Asilomar is a very famous retreat/conference center on the coast of California. It's not exactly North, but not South either. In the 60's it was a BIG hangout for therapy gurus. If I'm not mistaken, I think that the old "T" groups started there. (It was a form of group therapy that went out of fashion rather quickly because it encouraged really brutal and bruising honesty between group members) Anyway, it is a prestigious place to have a conference, even today. (I envy you Terry for your connection with the place!)

I can't personally relate to your "going down the aisle" thoughts. But, my DD3 must have had some of that. She's had a starter marriage and a 10 year marriage, both of which are over now. And she's only 35! My first marriage lasted 17 years and produced 3 beautiful girls. With the distance of 26 years, I can say that much of it was happy. Unfortunately, "he" (the old Bob) just has never been able to reconcile with me for anything. We've had weddings, and some brief meetings at the DD's houses. But, it is never a pleasant thing because of him. I forgave him long ago. But, he just can't face me. I am sure it has to do with our DD1's death which happened at the same time that we were separating and eventually divorcing. I think that I remind him of her. We looked remarkably alike.

Well, that's not a very happy note for the morning!

Barb: Good to see you this morning. Good luck with induction! My BTB has gone to hell in a handbasket! I sort of have waning hope that I will get back to it.

I'm again intrigued by your choice of exercise at home. Well, not so much about the "choice" but by the fact that you choose home to do it. It makes so much sense to me. I don't know why I don't do it. Stupid statement, I know.

Have a good day at work. I'm missing so much the structure of working!

Last night I gave myself a good talking to about getting something accomplished that I could "see" today. I'm going to clean out underneath "my" bathroom sink. I tend to collect makeup samples, old hair dryers, and other flotsam that just doesn't need to be kept. Also, I realized with a start the other day that there is stuff under there that I will need in the next six months that will be too costly to replace. I went to Wal-Mart (what a mess!) yesterday and got some plastic bins to pack those things, as well as the office supplies that we will need. (I asked for help trying to find the tops to some perfect Rubbermaid bins. The sloe-eyed salesguy who finally found me waiting in the aisle said, "We don't have any." "They broke." Hmmm)

Brenda: And, what's on your agenda for today? I imagine you sitting in front of your computer with your latte right now. It's about 8:30 where you live. DD is gone. It's DH gone today? My DH has gone to the travel clinic at UMass hospital to get his last Hepatitis vaccination before we leave. He had to get a whole series of OTHER shots for India than he got for Africa last year. He also has to take those Malaria pills with him. He loves all this preparation for his trips!

Judy: I suppose that you are at work and buried in Aca Deca stuff as well as teaching your little darlings. I hope it is a good day for you in the trenches. As I think about JP for you, I think it is a really good idea. It would be a challenge, and I think that a challenge would be wonderful at this point. I don't mean that your job is not challenging, but how exciting to begin something that is different and requires different skills that you already possess?!

Good luck with the eating, my friend. Wow! It's hard to believe that we have been talking on this thread for almost three years! What a good friend you have been. I marvel at the closeness of us all even though we have never met personally. (Though I have dreams of a reunion in Oooooklahoma! I guess it would be a "union," since many of us haven't met)

Shelley: And, while I'm talking about Ooooklahoma, we have decided to come through your neck of the woods next Spring (probably in March). I want ALL of you to think about coming to Oklahoma City next March for a slumber party. We can find a retreat center somewhere, or a hotel with a medium sized room with couches for us to talk all day, and rooms to sleep. Isn't there somewhere we can do that Shelley? I know it is a BIG dream, but why not dream you guys?

I don't blame you a bit for being a little squeamish about a shot in your nose. I bet he will use a local anesthetic of some kind to deaden the area before he shoots it. I always say to myself (I've had such invasive dental work and hundreds of mouth shots) that it's momentary and then it's "dead." And, as far as TMI goes, you can't ever say too much for me. Some time I'll tell you the story of how I became immune to TMI stories. It happened when I was interning as a hospital chaplain at Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbr, MI.

Well, you have about seven people around the country (and many more of your friends I am sure) who will be sending positive thoughts and prayers your way. So, you should be just fine!

In the time that it has taken me to write this is has brightened a little outside. The wind is still howling, but maybe it is passing.

I'm going to get to "work" on the bathroom while I have some energy. see ha later.

Peace, Peg
