Hi Gang!

I LOL'd at your comment Alida about Barb's boobs. When I saw my DD2 in TX this summer she said to me, "Your boobs are pretty perky, Mom." I wasn't sure what she MEANT by that so I asked, "Too perky??" "NO, MOM!" she said. "I was giving you a compliment!" It's hard to tell with this DD. She so seldom compliments me that I am never quite sure what she means. Sounds like the dinner was a great success. Wow, to all of you! Actually none of you look like you need to lose weight! Again, it's amazing to me our own self perceptions.

Rhonda: Come back and visit any time. Or, if you like, take a chair and stay for a while.

Well, I'm having a relaxing Sunday morning. DH has gone off to church in Boston on official business. We have only one car these days remember, so I'm still in my robe at 10:00 am. I've had my coffee, read the Sunday paper and thought that I would stop in here to see how you all are doing. We must be a busy gang since not all of us are posting!

Yesterday was sort of a lost day for me. I was in pain most of the day and continued on trying to get the house in shape and our selves packed. Last night we watched the second and final part of "Human Trafficking" on the Lifetime channel. It was just riveting and very intense. We have a friend who has spent her career as a missionary first starting a school for prostitutes in Thailand, and then moving into helping prostitues who have been trafficked from other countries. She has walked the darkest streets in all the major countries and cities in the world inviting prostitutes to a new life, promising them that they can go back to their original countries, and making that possible where necessary. Now, she works independently for foreign countries helping them address human trafficking. She speaks many languages and is really a woman who has affected change in a big way. We spent time with her when we were in Prague recently. In addition to being really gutsy, she is also a strikingly beautiful woman. Anywhoo......

This morning I feel a little better. No noticable pain.

Judy: I know you will appreciate this story. Yesterday I got my new external drive. I unpacked it, followed the instructions for installation, and finally pushed the button to back up my HD. The light blinked, and the box came up on my screen saying it is backing up. And I waited.......about 10 hours later, when the box was still on my screen saying it is backing up, I turned it off and went to bed. This morning I decided to try to figure it out again. Well, first of all, I had plugged in the firewire cable instead of the USB cable, second, it was never initalized and installed on my computer. So all that light blinking and dialigue box on compuer was 1. Blinking because it was plugged in. (duh) and 2. Box showing because I installed the software. (duh) So, I did what was required (hopefully) and will backup when I am done with this posting. What are you doing this weekend? I hope you are getting some relaxation among all the other duties that must get done on the weekend when you work full time.

Shelley: I, too, am praying for you for tomorrow. Specifically, I am praying that the surgeon's hand will be careful and precise, that the nurses and others who care for you will be compassionate and understanding, and that the tumor will be small, benign, and quite manageable. I am also praying that the plastic surgeon can stitch you up in such a manner that in a few months no one will know that you had nose surgery. I am also praying that the anasthesia will be easy for you to manage. Does that about cover it? If not, tell me and I will add to my prayers.

I suspect that you are also managing things around the house today getting ready. Do stop in here and let us all know how you are doing today.

Brenda: Okay, girlie, get your groove on and post! Not sure what the weather is in Chicago, but here it is finally sunny! Yay! Some places had snow flurries yesterday but if we did, I refused to see them or acknowledge them. What are you doing this weekend?

Donna: Wow! It sounds as if you have really gotten some neat stuff! Why don't you think about a third color to bring in with the green and black? How about a teal, or a mauve? Your ideas sound just lovely. I'm surprised that you were able to make that many decisions in that short a time! Wow. I could do that, but my DH would have to think about it for a few months in order to spend the $$! Have you seen the new commercial for AMEX? It has a little boy asking if he can buy one twinkie instead of the two in the package? The clerk says no, and the voice over says, "Johnny is saving for retirement." We laughed out loud when we saw it because that has been my DH all his life. But, try and get him to spring for spending now that it is RETIREMENT? Yeah, right.

Alida: You sound perky today! You got up at 3:30? Girl, I'm a little worried aobut you. That is TOO early. You better take a nap. Heck, you could take a nap at noon. That would be a full day after getting up at 3:30! And, listen here, girlie girl, you are a real looker! Don't want to see you putting yourself down again. You are also really tiny, aren't you?

Barb: Sounds as if you had a good time last night. Congratulations on one full week down with induction and another one coming! Good job! Love your card poem. Sounds as if you write what you believe! It works best that way doesn't it?

Rachel: Wondering how your Halloween party was? And, how's the eating going now that you are home? It was so good to open my machine and see your post yesterday!

Terry: I'm wondering if you are home yet. Somehow, I thought you were going to be all weekend. Anywhoo....post when you can and let us know how you are doing. I'm right on the edge of a Flare. Trying to ignore it. That, of course, is why I was in pain yesterday. I refuse to say that I am in the middle of a flare. I refuse.

Peace, Peg

Good grief. All this is gonna go to my head. Skinny with great boobs? Sounds like something Hollywood invented. The girls are no longer as "perky" as they once were, but a good bolster makes up the difference. The pink sweater is, I'll admit, sensational. I went ahead and bought a size that shows off the curves--evidently it worked.

As for Alida's "ten pounds"--I have no idea where it's going to come from. As you can see from the photos, she's a wee slip of a thing already.

The fauxpotato recipe is off this site somewhere, but here it is:

1 medium head cauliflower, cut in pieces
4 oz. cream cheese
1 TBS butter
Salt and pepper
Paprika

Steam or microwave the cauliflower until it's soft enough to mash. Don't want it juicy. Process with the cream cheese, salt and pepper--or seasonings of your choice. I usually just mash it and then use a mixer, but if you're handy with a processer, that's probably better. Turn into a serving bowl, sprinkle with paprika, butter on top.

You can do anything you want with this. Mix in onion powder, top with bacon crumbles (or mix them in). Grate cheese on top and bake for 20-30 minutes. Use your imagination. My recipe says 4 servings for 4.5 gms carb--give or take depending on ingredients.

No, none of us last night looked as though we need to lose weight. That's the whole idea. If we have "goals" left, that's just the idealized incentive. Maintenance ain't easy, as we know. Best to keep a little "fear of fat" going on. Now...I'm headed to the skating rink, and after that, I'll take a nap.
Football on tv puts me to sleep every time--not quite as good as golf, but it'll do.

Hi guys,
WOWZA...Barb, Alida, and all in that pic!!! You guys look terrific!!! Heck, you guys ARE terrific!!!! Thanks so much for thinking of us Cinderella's that couldn't go to the ball and posting the pics It sounds like a wonderful time was had by all; that's so nice!

Peg, that about covers it on the prayer...many thanks! I,too, am hoping it goes fast and good, and really praying a skin graft won't be necessary.
So, how's the data transfer going to the EHD? You guys are beyond me on some of this techy stuff. I guess I'm spoiled...I just call our computer guy and he makes a house call...he's a freind of DH's AND he knows I'm a special needs gal when it comes to the computer...LOL.

Donna, thanks to you also for the good wishes for tomorrow. It sounds like you had a very productive shopping trip...WOOHOO!!! Gotta love it when you power shop and get the job done! Good for you!

I went on a miniature shopping spree today myself. JCPenney was having a pretty good home decor sale, so I hussled my bussle on out to the mall and scored pretty big. I found the top treatments and rods for the master bedroom, and also got some decorative pillows for the bed. I may take the pillows back; not sure on that though. I don't think we will get the sheers hung today as DH had to go to Wichita, but at least I will have them here and when we get a chance, we'll be good to go. I was really torn on the accent colors for the pillows, so I went with mocha colored faux suede and expresso colored taffeta pillows. I may trade them for the deep burgandy and loden colored sateens that I pondered on...I'M NOT SURE WHICH ONES I WANT...LOL...what else is new coming from me?...<sigh>

Bren, Judy, Ilse, Rachel, hope you guys are having a great weekend whatever you are doing!

DH is due home anytime, so we will get to go on our dinner date this evening.
Hummmmm....I'm thinking Steak-N-Ale, or Outback Steakhouse, or Red Lobster, or...LOL...wow, didn't realize how hungry power shopping was making me

I'll try to check-in in the morning before we head out to the Dr.'s office.

Did everyone get their clocks set back and new batteries in the smoke detectors?
Mother hen here clucking to her little chickadees.

Have a good evening all!

(((hugs)))

Hey gang! Didn't deliberately abandon you yesterday. DH took apart our system yesterday and put in some new boards and new software in the computers. We have an embarrassment of computers (like a gaggle of geese? ) and an LAN (local area network) at our house, but it's DH's hobby and keeps him off the streets. Unfortunately he chose yesterday as update everything day. PC carcasses all over the house. So what did I do all day wondering how you all were? I cleaned!!! I swear, I haven't cleaned so much in one day since my MIL visited last. My evening, I checked up on you all but was pooped.

Shell
, I add my positive wishes to everyone else's for an uneventful procedure tomorrow. I do think Peg said it all. We'll be thinking of you lots and hope as soon as you feel up to it, you'll tell us how you are.

Super Shopping, girl! Why not get both color versions so you can change off at will!! Hope you're having a yummy dinner out....

Donna, speaking of shopping, wow! I'm impressed you could get that much done in so few hours, but then I know you like to move those projects right along. But with such a busy day, the stress of making so manydecisions (especially with DH in tow), and as tired as you must have been after all that, I don't think it strange that your eating wasn't the best. I know you'll get back on track, so don't beat yourself up, ok?

Rachel
, I know I'm behind, but welcome back. So good to hear from you; I always enjoy your posts and miss them when you are traveling.

Alida, truly beautiful work on the shower room window. Just lovely! And thank you for posting the pictures. I was so tickled at how cute you are, and standing next to tall Henry was just perfect! I agree with Barb--don't know where an extra 10 pounds would come from!

Barb, I do agree that pink sweater was made for you. Woohoo! Let the girls strut their stuff! You, too, look wonderful, and as Alida says, a tiny thing!

I'm so glad Alida shared the verse from one of your cards. I do believe I will print it out for my bulletin board. I tack up inspirations of all kinds, and I find your words touch me.

What a success story from Kansas. Barb, Alida, Rhonda, Henry. All looking happy, healthy, and trim.

Peg, that's the last of that fl*r* business, ok? No stressing out about packing. Whatever you forget or don't have time for will be no big deal in the larger picture of things. Things can be sent, replaced, or done later or by someone else!

When I think of you and your missionary friend, I wonder what else I could have done with my life to make a difference for others.

LOL about your DD's boob comment! I get that way about DH's "compliments." They are rare, and when I get them, I tend to deconstruct them for other "meanings."

Judy, I'm still hoping your'll share some thoughts after your meeting with the other JP in Marshall. Such a fascinating and totally fitting move. Can you "float" your name and see what reaction you get??

TB, hope you're back on line and have had a good weekend.

Ilse, hope you're doing well and that your knees aren't giving you as much trouble.

Anyone else out there , pull up a chair around the fireplace and jump in with us.

Busy day here, but nothing worthy of note except groceries, and that's only interesting to DH and the furgirls. I keep thinking of projects I really want to do all over the house--I suppose I should take my own advice, make a list, and just start! Trouble is, some of them involve DH, and that's always an iffy proposition. More later, perhaps!

Dang, I finally got a few minutes to post, and by the time I was really rolling I lost the message. The Halloween gremlins must be out early. This may (may!!!) turn out hit and miss. I?m afraid that it may be big on the miss.

Rachel, Welcome back! Way cool that you and Peg for to meet. I hope we get a chance to do so, too, the next time she is in Dallas.

Shelley, Good luck with the procedure tomorrow. My prayers are that it can be the best possible outcome with the least invasive cutting.

Peg, No more stressing about the trip. Brenda is right. You can buy or ship what doesn?t make it into the car. One more week and you will be on the way. I know you are excited. I?m also glad to see that you bought an external hard drive to back up everything. The first time we tried ours we messed up, too. I?m not sure what DH did, but he now has the desktop, this laptop, and my school computer totally backed up ? including all the software and settings.

Brenda, I missed the info about your procedure, but gathered that it went OK. We have a gaggle of computers, too. In fact right now there are probably 5 or six here in the house. I keep trying to get him to sell a couple of them. Geez, you would thing that 2 people could make it on 3 computers.

Alida and Barb!!! Great pictures. How cool that you guys finally got to meet. You both look absolutely wonderful!

Donna, I?ve got to go back and see what all you bought. We did a little home reno here this week, too. Ours was way way on the small side compared to what you did. DH put up some under cabinet lights in the kitchen. I?ve got the stuff to make new curtains for the kitchen window and the door from the garage. Now, I just have to get my part done.

TB, Thanks for putting up the smaller image. I appreciate you hosing it for us.

Ilse, Hope things are settling in for you. I know it must be hard to be in a new school and in a new home all at the same time.

To be continues with my updates???.

Here?s the update on the JP position.

I had to arm twist DH to go to Marshall with me. He was in the middle of putting up the lights and really didn?t want to stop. But, it?s such a big decision and will definitely have an impact on both of us that I wanted him to hear it all, too. We are both pretty much on the organized and neat side of the spectrum. The office we visited was so overloaded with paperwork that it was almost more than we could both handle just on first impression. The woman was very nice and quite enthusiastic about her job. There was not anything about the job that I don?t feel that I could handle. What I did find out that makes me have second and third thoughts are the hours that she works. Granted, she is in a different situation that I would be in, but not that different. The bottom line is that this could turn out to be more hours, working holidays, at least a week a month on 24 hour call for death inquests and all for less pay than I make now. If I?m going to get out of education, I don?t know that I want to get into something with equal or worse stress. All this is beyond the point that many of the people that I would have to have in my court fall into the category of the lowest common denominator of society. The decision is still up in the air, but it may be taking a definite downward trend.

I?m over and out for the night. I?ll be reading up on you all even if I get behind again.

It's what happens when Peg's FM rears its head. Sometimes I just don't like giving negative things the honor of naming them. It gives them a certain energy and reality. Ok, taking off my hippie duds now, man. Peace :silly:

Judy, understandable you don't want to do more for less. Deserves appropriate consideration under the circumstances.

Hey all?

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! I?m attaching the photos from this weekend?s party? I went as a sort of Vampiress ($12.99 at the Shop Rite, who can beat that?)

So by presidential decree we are NOT setting our clocks back (he does this every year) so we are now 9+ hours from EST? screwing up my palm/phone, laptop, computer and every other electronic thing we own that does un the ?favor? of re-setting for the time change. <<grrrrrrrrrrr>>

LOVED the LC potluck photos ? you are all so trim ? and I agree about Alida ? sister ? you ARE a slip of a thing!!! Even more reason to be impressed with the work you do on those big sheets of glass - <<Whew>> You guys all have more than 300 pounds lost, right? Very, very cool to see the pictures. And Barb, I agree with the gang ? sweater, boobs, skinny and all? We?re all chicks so there it is - you are an inspirational writer as well?. <<<Bravo>>> Sounds like it was a great meal, and a very fun time? and Alida ? did DH breathe a sigh of relief when you returned home from the meeting of ?those internet friends?? Was Jan camera shy?

Shelley, I am all with you today and thinking of you from afar ? I?m sure all with go very smoothly! <<hugs>>

Barb, I hope DH is feeling better and getting more accustomed to being dry these days ? my thoughts are with you/him.

Donna, no kick in the butt, just a gentle love tap ? come on back, come on back!! I?ll drop a post soon on what R&R do?

Peg, your friend in the prevention of human trafficking sounds like a saint ? In every country I?ve lived/worked in there are programs sponsored by the US Embassies to prevent trafficking ? it is a HUGE problem. I am proud that there are people like her out there ? what a tough row to hoe, ugh.

To answer your query?.I have not lost any weight since I?ve been home ? I was planning to exercise this morning and am sitting here in my sweats ? but a good friend is applying for a very important scholarship in the US and I?m bound to the computer so I can help her do last minute edits on her essays and whatnot ? more important in the grand scheme of things than whether I sweat this morning. I lunch with a friend (I can do lo-carb ? and so I think I?ll try to the afternoon exercise thing, instead? ugh.

I?m very sorry for your pain ? as I mentioned DH?s mom has FM and I wish for all of us she would explore options for decreasing that pain (other than morphine ? which is what she prefers)?

Brenda!! Welcome back tee hee hee? (my) DH as well is the computer geek in our house ? all sorts of electronic state of the arts ?stuff?. Trouble is, after ?updating? he insists on spending DAYS getting the older stuff packed up and sold on email (which from HERE means lugging sh*t to the US and packing it up to send from NJ <<<grrrrr>>). I sent him an article from the BBC a few weeks ago about how all those computers from the US that are shipped overseas for ?charity? end up being too old or too obsolete to fix or renovate. Computer recycling companies in the US are actually ?dumping? them in places like Nigeria and the Congo. It?s a problem getting rid of old computers!

Judy, about the JP issue. I read your post carefully and something to consider is the fact that you said you and DH are fairly organized and neat people. We are too, and I?ve found that just because someone has a messy work space does not mean they are efficient or actually ?busy?! No kidding. I understand the other questions (less $$ and potentially more hours) but frequently it is the people who go home on time who are the most efficient and getting the most done. I have worked with plenty of folks over the years who tend to believe that if they give the impression that they are working hard (or overworked) ? they don?t have to put in as much effort. Just my two cents ? of course ? but I am sure that whatever decision you make will be the best one!

Ok gals, I?m off to work on this stuff ? I?ll try to attach my scary Halloween pics (DH gasped when I walked out of the bathroom, ?Oh my GAWD, you don?t look anything like YOU!?!!?) ? funniest part of the party was people who DON?T know me, chatting me up as though they did (but didn?t want me to think they were rude ? VERY funny!)

Hugs to all! [ Terry?? Hope you had a good weekend ? am thinkin? of ya]

Ok, I'm not posting the photos - they are huge and although we have THREE different photo editing softwares - I can't use any of them - can you feel the frustration seeping out through my fingers as I type this <<<< grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr>>>> :( :(

Maybe in the next week or so when DH has the time to fix them for me...

Rachel,
Download a small free program called Irfanview. It's easy to use to cut down pictures and to do lots of other photo things like remove red eye. You can run a search to find it. No need to wait on DH.

Good morning! Ack. Monday again.

Rachel, nuts! I wanted to see those pictures! Please remember to post them later. When I take my pictures, the camera is usually set for 1mb. Then I use Photoshop to reduce the size of the image. Usually around 500-600 pixels wide will do the trick and let me load the photos to this site without the dreaded "file size too big" message.

Fox News had a tidbit on Saturday about the Republic of Georgia being inundated with rain (or was it an earthquake? . . . just caught the tail end of the report) and loss of power. Were you OK? Must have been . . .

Oh, I feel so bad. Jan offered to take the pictures and I forgot to switch places with her so she could be in a shot. She really is one super lady . . . and very tall so she's a perfect match for Henry!

Totally off topic . . . when you see a couple where the man is really tall and the woman is really short . . . do you ever wonder how they "get together? LOL.

Barb: Thanks for the recipe. Sounds quick and good. And do let all the compliments go to your head. You've earned them! As for where my last 10 pounds will come from . . . if you saw me naked you would know. Had to laugh at your good bolster comment. I have having a very hard time finding a good one. I was measured and come out at a 35 B+. Try finding one of those! And I do prefer bras with a wider band, and those are hard to find in a 34. They usually start at 36C. One day when I have nothing to do, I have to devote an entire day to bra shopping.

I should have gone to sleep during the Chiefs game yesterday. It was awful.

Judy: Have to agree with you not liking the idea of more work for less pay. It was good that you visited your neighboring JP. Although sometimes there are hidden perks to a job. Take mine, for instance. I do have to do a lot of heavy "labor" but then I often have chunks of time off, like this week.

Quote:
Geez, you would think that 2 people could make it on 3 computers.
LOL! Actually three is a good number. His and Hers and a Backup!

Brenda: Had to laugh at your projects around the house requiring your DH's assistance. I have a bunch of those, too. My DH is a onefer guy. Only one project per day, even if it only takes 15 minutes. And he considers golf on Saturday and watching football on Sunday as "projects!"

Once a hippie, always a hippie! Agree with you on not giving bad things a name. Bad karma. Bad energy.

And you cleaned house? You get a Gold Star. Thanksgiving's coming. Maybe I'd better start thinking about it. Yikes, That means Christmas is not far behind.

Peg: Sorry you had a fl*r*. (Judy, LOL at buying a vowel!!) But glad you felt better yesterday! Please don't stress, my friend. It will get done.

Had to laugh at your external hard drive experience. Sounds exactly like what would happen to me. Although I would never have the patience to have a dialogue box up for 10 hours! Ain't technology grand? We spend so much time getting tech working so we can save time.

I have to admit I live in a little Pollyanna world. Human Trafficking? I guess I know that some of it goes on, but never realized the scale. Your friend is truly a Saint.

One more week before you leave???

Shelley: our resident pastor has offered up the perfect prayer for you today. I repeat it for you, with all my heart. I hope you will fell well enough when you get home to let us know how it went.

Shelley, we are so much alike! I can't make up my mind, either. Although I do like the idea of adding some color with the burgundy and green. I think that will pop a little more. I love Penney's too for curtains. I have to stop by and look for some drapes to use as a shower curtain to hide my tub closet. And for pillows, my all time favorite place is Stein Mart. Do you have one of those in OKC? Fabulous pillows at reasonable prices. Dillard's has nice ones, too, but a little more $$.

Again, a prayer that all goes well today!

Donna: What did you do yesterday? More reno? Was your son able to finish off the wall?

Terry: Back from your Asilomar weekend? Did everything go smoothly?

Ah. This week is a light week for me. So far, just Friday is scheduled. We do have a lot of quotes floating out there. Wouldn't surprise me if a few come through. Then I will feel compelled to schedule them this week.

Bob has an appointment at the VA this afternoon. He gets his meds from the VA, so that requires a yearly visit. (He does have a "regular" doctor.) Very weird. His appt. is for 1:30 and they have asked him to fast for 8-12 hours. Hmm. Try doing that. Idiots. I don't think they realize he is a diabetic. So he got up early today so he could take his meds then eat breakfast early enough to carry him through to 1:30, yet still get the minimum 8 hours of fast. I asked him what they needed the fast for and he didn't know. Hmm. Cholesterol??

Forgot. I do need to do a lead design for a customer today. She OK'd the price, now I need to come up with a design for her OK. Always something.

Have a great day . . . and Shelley, you know you are in our prayers!!
