Peg, we were cross posting--I am SO sorry to hear you were so ill yesterday! Ack! Good that you gave in and took to bed, IMO. Trying to tough it out really only makes it last longer. Glad you are better today, even if you have to host a rather annoying friend--yes I have one like that, too!

Deuts bit you? :o (sorry....., but animals can be so interesting....)

Peg, my time on the board shows up correctly, but in order for it to do so, I have to set the options for "Alaska time" which is what, three time zones west? Anyway, try setting to PST, with the daylight savings option to see if that's closer.

Good morning everyone. The countdown is almost over. We leave tomorrow morning. And, I'm just about caught up at work and it's not even noon yet. Things are looking good. I'm still mad about the way my boss was whining and I'm thinking about applying for a job that I have heard has come open, but it would really upset me to leave here. I've been here for 18 years now and I doubt I could take my furkids to another job. He's just such an a$$. Yes, I do the books so I know how much money is coming in and going out and believe me ....he's not hurting. He just has a hard time parting with any of it. So, I've put the bug in one of the driver's ears that I'm thinking of taking another job. This guy is so mouthy that I know he's going to run to the boss when I'm on holidays. Sneaky? Yup. Maybe once I'm away and he sees how much work is coming in that he has no clue how to do, he'll rethink his whining. I'll see what happens when I get back, but I'm not going to let it ruin my trip.

Dh brought the motorhome to the house last night and as soon as I got home and the dogs saw it, they started to cry. Followed us all around the house, whining. As if we've ever left them behind! They finally settled down when I shut the curtains. Guess they knew that meant we were at least staying home for the night. Tomorrow morning will be bad as we pack the last of the stuff to leave.

Yes, Alida, I sure did watch Survivor. Poor Steph. She tries so hard, but it still doesn't work out for her does it. I'm hoping that we will be in campsites that have cable so I can watch Survivor while we are gone.

Peg: Sorry about your migraine. That's gotta hurt. I get the flashing lights but so far no migraines. I do get a lot of headaches though. I think most of it for me is the computer...just too hard on my neck. Glad you're feeling better today.Yes, I can rest on the drive. I don't do any of the driving. I have a dh that thinks no one can drive as well as he can, so I let him. I usually sleep the better part of the day away the first couple of days, then I'm okay. My body just doesn't know what to do when I finally settle down into relax mode and it just wants to sleep to catch up.

Barb: Did you write that poem knowing that we spend at least one night in a WalMart parking lot? lol I loved it. You sure are one talented lady.

Dh took the insulating machine back to the store last night and told them it didn't work and he wanted his money back. He told them it sounds like the bearings on the machine are gone. Then they told him that they never check it when it comes back in. We had bought 22 bales of insulation and they only took 16 back. They wanted to charge us a restocking fee so dh just told them to forget it, he would use it somewhere or give it away. The man needs to learn to be assertive. It's their fault we didn't get to use it so they should take it all back. Men! Oh, I called my ds and his eyes weren't affected by all the dust and insulation blowing around. Thank god!

Guess I should finish up what I need to do around here. Haircut at 4 (yes, I'm leaving work early). I'm going to miss all of you, so take care and I'll post as soon as I can when I get back. First day back at work is Oct.24th. Bye for now.

One more thing Donna.......... walk into the lobby of a "business type" hotel (almost any Holiday Inn or other major chain) and act like you are staying there. They usually have computers set up for their customers. Sign on and let us here from you.

Can you guys tell that I've tried this trick. Peg, I'm going to have to write up the instructions so that you can connect to Wifi networks of hotels. We pulled into the parking lot of lots of places and used their internet if we happened to be without.

Ok, you all now know how frugal (yeah, right --- cheap) I am.

Default Saturday Morning way early as usual

Waving bye-bye to Donna! I'd like to be back on a roadtrip myself.

Peg, so sorry about the migraine--and the headache that came for dinner. You are an official saint. Isn't it amazing how common afflictions like migraines remain such a mystery to medical science? You just have to figure out what to do for yourself. When I was a little girl, I used to get headaches all the time. Completely anxiety-related, I'm sure. Migraines are a different matter. Hope you're feeling much better today.

As for self-esteem...has never been an issue with me. Growing up, I was encouraged to achieve at my level of ability--and did. As a mobile military kid, I had to learn a lot of social skills--and did. I've had faith experiences that drove the unconditional love of God in deep...and I'm profoundly grateful for that.

However, I've always related to the complaint of Linus (in Peanuts): "There's no heavier burden than a great potential!" Living up to my own standards gives me plenty to shoot for, let alone society or the boss.

And speaking of bosses, sounds like Donna has her strategy nailed!

This morning, my personal standard is finishing the 10K race around the KC Zoo. "Run for the Cheetahs." I haven't run as far six miles in more than a decade, and I'll be running mostly on determination today. Ah well.

Off to the races! Be back later to see what everyone else is up to. I just noticed I've achieved 1000 posts at LCE. Wordy girl!

Hi Gang!

Just lost a huge long post that probably held TMI. No coincidences.

Judy: Yes! Please email me about wireless hot spots. I can't quite see DH parking in a hotel parking lot, but stranger things have happened.

Barb: Good luck today!

Good Saturday to you all. No empty computer screen!! Yay!

Peace, Peg
175 this morning!! Yay. Only 10 more pounds til goal.

ROFL, Peg!!!

Well, we went to Farm and Fleet this morning. For those of you not in the upper MW, the Farm and Fleet stores are huge fascinating places where you can buy everything from tractor tires for your John Deere combines, to horse wormer meds, to feed troughs, to socks, candy, toys, jeans, clothing, small appliances, and whew, a little of everything the farmer or suburban wanna-be with a quarter acre could want Jerry bought a couple of electrical connectors which I will now be returning next week for him. Agh!

We had to stop on the way home for something to eat--I must have gotten a bit hypoglycemic. Anyway, the closest place was a fast food place (Culvers--another MW icon). You would have been proud of me--I stood there drooping until I could find something "safe" to eat to tide me over. You should know Culvers is the home of the "butter burger" and equally amazing frozen custard.

It's cloudy and chilly now (30 something degrees colder than Wednesday) and I need to decide whether I'm up for mowing the yard again......wheeeeee.

Now, Peg, aren't you sorry you asked, LOL!

Talking Re: October Tracking

Oh Good! Just to add to your smiles, I also picked up dog poop, knitted a few rounds on a sock, picked a zit, and paid a bill. Not sure which of those was the most rewarding

Barb, much success with your race today...

Default Saturday afternoon

This morning was a perfect, perfect day for the Zoo run. The Zoo was scenic, the course well laid-out. I finished in 1:06 and felt great doing it. Didn't win a prize, but had a good experience. Got the t-shirt, feel like a total winner. Who would expect to turn a corner on a morning run and look a white tiger square in the eye? Quite a moment!

The rest of the story--not quite so peachy. In my driveway this morning, I discovered that someone had slashed a large hole in the convertible top of my Miata. Nothing in there to steal, but whoever it was also broke the latch on the glove box trying to get in. They didn't manage to open it, and now, neither can I.

The vandal also destroyed the license cover on the other car in the driveway (Mazda6 sedan), and made off with the tax sticker. All this will take time, inconvenience, and money to restore. In the light of, say, Hurricane Katrina losses, this is small stuff. But you know how it makes one feel anyway. Crap on criminals!!

In the early afternoon, my dad called from the VA, where he'd gone to find out about his dizziness. (He DROVE to the VA to find out about dizziness??) After a full check-up in the emergency room (your tax dollars at work, and I thank you) he was released--but they made him call my sister to come and get him. Carolyn and I drove over to pick him up, and got him and his car back home. He's fine for the moment. Funny, though. They gave him some pills to take (evidently for motion sickness symptoms)--and the label on those pills warns "May cause dizziness." Huh??

Carolyn and I are seriously considering our legal liability in case he gets in some sort of fatal wreck. Meanwhile, we're plotting the timeline for taking away his keys. He's not mentally impaired in any way, and I'm sure he understands our concerns about social safety. Old age is no picnic.

Back to square one. These are just the "normal" setbacks for regular life. I ran a 10K today--and nobody can take that away from me.

See you tomorrow!
P. S. Got a picture from a friend. See those stubby legs run! I'm about 400 yds from the finish at this point, with six miles behind me, and still smiling.

Good morning! And I do hope it will be a GOOD morning for everyone.

I could have wiped yesterday out of my life. Got an early phone call from my cousin in Chicago. My Aunt died Friday night. It was not unexpected, but death, when it does come, always seems to catch us by surprise. My Aunt felt tired, and a little dizzy. She sat down in a chair and told her care giver (she was at home) to call my cousin. By the time my cousin got there, Auntie was gone. Just sleeping peacefully in the chair. My Aunt was an amazing woman. We were close. In all those years, I never heard her say a bad word about anyone or anything. She was 93. It was time. And it is a blessing for my cousin. The last few years have been tough for her, taking on all those responsibilities that an aging parent presents. She did it with love, but it took its toll on her. She was running ragged. The funeral won't be until Saturday, to give all the rellies time to get to Chicago. I'll leave on Thursday.

So then I call a friend to chat. She has two daughters fighting cancer. She proceeded to tell me SHE has breast cancer and is going in Tuesday to get her breast lopped off. She's an energetic 79.

Called another friend to tell her about friend above, and she tells me about a third friend whose daughter-in-law just lost the twins she was carrying AND lost a best friend who was taking chemo for a skin condition. The chemo killed her. The skin condition, while bad, would not have.

Then Son Paul called and said he graduated Basic Training but the Army is sending him home to recuperate from a broken pelvis AND two fractures in his legs. He did not have time to explain. I guess before he goes on to advanced training, he has to take the time to heal all these fractures.

SIGH.

Barb: Whoo Hoo on the race! What a great accomplishment! And the Zoo is a great place to have a race . . . lots of "hills." But bummer on the vandal. You are absolutely right. Everything will take time to replace/repair. Even stole the tax sticker? I have never understood that mind-set. How a person can think he has a right to destroy or take another person's property. Perhaps a lark? Done by kids? Never could understand that, either.

As for your poem, it is a gem! How did Kooser like it? Did he have anything in particular to say about it?

Peg, your migraine sounds awful. I have heard about auras, but never about the numbness and inability to verbalize. All that sounds stoke-ish. Has your doctor ever explained it to you? Do you mind explaining it to me? I do hope today is better for you.

Since I have to go to Chicago this weekend, I am afraid our little plan of getting together with you and Brenda is out the window. Another Sigh. The hotel expense will also put the cabinets I wanted to get at Ikea on hold for a while.

Sorry you were the victim of the ether thief! All that TMI is out there floating around somewhere. If you have the chance, try to post it again. My feelings about this thread is that nothing is TMI!

Brenda, LOL at what you did yesterday (or was it Friday?)

Quote:
I stood there drooping until I could find something "safe" to eat to tide me over
Me too! Can't tell you how many times I have scanned a menu just looking for acceptable foods! Be proud of yourself! You did great. Your DH, on the other hand, did not. Wrong electrical connectors????

Lots to do today to prepare for my trip to Chicago. Some clients to re-schedule and 12 panes of glass sitting on my work table to film. Harder than it sounds. Each pane has two holes that have to be cut out. These panes are for doors . . . the kind that float and don't have a frame. Glass guy neglected to tell me how the door gets put together so I have no idea which side of the glass to film. I'll get everything ready and put in a call to him first thing Mon. AM. I envisioned panic time if the funeral was going to be held on Wednesday or Thursday, but with the funeral on Saturday, I now have some breathing room. It will be the traditional Polish send-off. Wake all day and evening Friday, Saturday Funeral Mass and graveside service. Then on to a restaurant, Glenwood Oaks, for brunch, then on to counsin's house for more eating and talking. Whew!

Yesterday was not a great eating day but no ill effects on the scale because I was running around like the energizer bunny.

Have a great Sunday!

Barb, great shot! I am amazed that you are smiling!!! Stubby legs? Nah . . . it's just the angle of the shot. You look FANTASTIC!

And I am sorry, I forgot to mention your Dad. I was too wrapped up in my problems. You mention dizziness. My Aunt had that . . . and it was because of lack of oxygen. Once she got fitted up with a tank at home, she felt a lot better. Did the docs say anything about that?? You and your sister are being wise about a "take the keys away" timeline. Driving is so integral to living a full and independent life. It will be hard for your Dad to face the reality of "old age." Yup. It Sucks.
