Hey all, a quick one before we turn off the computers and head to bed...

Barb, I am with you 110% (no controversy as far as I'm concerned)... I do lean toward MORE education rather than less on all subjects. It seems to me that the wise among us throughout history have always been persecuted (Jesus, for example) - it seems the stupid are the dangerous ones.... so yes, I like that old bumper sticker that said, "You think education is expensive? Try Ignorance!"

Alida - Even if she IS a gazillion pounds and unmarryable - over a million??? :eyes: Bob shouldn't have to pay her a thin dime, right?! Do I not understand how this all works? Yikes!!

ok gals.... I'm off to see the wizard - will think of you and be in touch when I can...

one last hug to all and a special one to Shelley....
    Hugs, Rachel

Well, Alida, proof once again--"Hell hath no fury like...." As to who scorned whom, it doesn't really matter. A broken-down marriage is inhumane--and so is lifetime alimony. So sorry.

My DH, like many men (and women?) of his generation married the person who was standing there when it was "time" to get married. That marriage didn't survive the pressure of profoundly different life goals. Culturally, things have changed 180 degrees. Now it seems people are looking for their "perfect soulmate." Unfortunately, that person doesn't exist either! Somewhere in the middle is a good friend and trustworthy partner--with enough sex appeal to fire the thing up--and then you adjust along the way. Thirty-seven years of experience speaking. P. S. DH thinks I'm perfect.

Alida, DH's ex weighed a gazillion pounds, too, but found someone and from all accounts is a much happier person (and nicer, too I should hope). It's a shame when revenge is your only life goal, like your DH's ex. Those kinds tend to outlive us all, unfortunately

Congrats on the big job--yes, indeedy, hope you get $$$$!

My DH, like many men (and women?) of his generation married the person who was standing there when it was "time" to get married.
    How true! My generation, too.

Barb, you're a lucky lady...my DH knows every one of my imperfections and loves me anyway. Over the years he's even come to see my idiosyncracies with humor--well, for the most part. He also thinks (don't laugh!) I'm the most beautiful and sexy woman in the world. Truly! LOL, gotta love that!

How nice your valentines were accepted. I thought they were lovely!

On kids, DH's older daughter married young and has three children--no college expenses there. The younger went to a private college ($yikes$), graduated near the top of her class, but still lives at home with her Mom and doesn't seem to require as much of herself as she could.

Rachel, you must be "on the way" by now. Have a safe trip! We hope the gods of wifi are kind to you. LOL, starter marriage! I'd forgotten that term. And as Alida always says, NEVER too much TMI! All in all, I's say you got a good deal, considering two previous marriages usually brings beaucoup baggage.

On the home front, Dad and Marjorie in. They are off to get flu shots and breakfast. Meanwhile, I have to run downstairs and pack up some financial files I forgot from the desk in the spare room Marjorie uses. None of her business, if you know what I mean.....

Then maybe I can get to some of the things I didn't do yesterday!

I must say I feel like a GEEK. Two CPU's, two mice and two keyboards going on my desk. Monitor hooked back and forth. Ditto with the telephone wire . . . BUT, it worked! Have more files to transfer and taking my time to delete a bunch of stuff from old computer but, dang it, it works!

    I am a happy camper . . . despite lifetime alimony, LOL!

Back later to comment . . . (we always have those, don't we?!)

I can out-geek you, Alida At home, I have two servers and a workstation networked with my husband's server and workstation, and I am getting ready to build a third server for myself. Right now my servers run Windows 2000 Server, and my husband has a Linux server. Our workstations are Windows XP Pro. Half of our rec room is consumed by our computers! Then again, I live and breathe this stuff as a sysadmin, so I guess it comes with the territory. But I have to say Bravo! to figuring out how to get it done!

I have also suffered the wrath of the ex-wife...but I think I might win the prize here. She used to phone us in the middle of the night in one of her drunken stupors and tell us how she was going to burn the house down with all of us in it. Try to get back to sleep after that! We had to get a policeman friend to go and have a talk to her while he was in uniform. She got her kids to sneak copies of our bills so she could take us back to court for more support. Thankfully, we don't have to pay anymore, but on each cheque I used to put KMA on the bottom. I told the judge it meant Kids Maintenance Allowance but it really meant Kiss My A$$. Made me feel better anyway.

Judy: Thank you, thank you. I just howled when I read that joke and I am going to use it. It's perfect.

I'll try to be back later. Invoice day today and I'm really busy. If not....have a great day everyone. Stat for me tomorrow so I should be able to pop in.

I'm doing alright... I can't really relate to all these ex-spouse stories, but I do have one about child support. When my mom and dad divorced in 1981, my mom supposedly had custody of us, but we had been living at her parents' house since May or June of 1980, while my mother lived in an apartment. (Backstory: My mom walked out on my dad, my sister, and I in April of 1980. This was her second marriage and my dad's first.) Well, my dad was still writing the checks to my mom, until he found out from my grandmother that she never got the money from my mother. My dad confronted my mom and told her that he was no longer writing the checks to her. She threatened to take him to court, and then he threatened to take HER to court for misusing the child support money. Needless to say, my mom backed down. Eventually my grandparents received legal guardianship over my sister and I, and my dad paid the child support directly to them. Yeah, my mom's a piece of work.

Diet-wise, I am doing OK. I did break down and have a tablespoon of hummus on 1/2 of a very small pita, but I passed up on the Geneva chocolate in the kitchen, so I claim a small victory there.

.................So, am I the only one around here with only one DH? Just because I'm still on # one is not to say that we haven't walked through the fire (more than once). We are just lucky that we found our way out, and are I believe, stronger for it.

You mean there is HOPE? :jump:

And I know what you mean about moving those financial files. I have some files I move out of the office when we have guests from out of town, especially the portfolio stuff. Glad your Dad and Marjorie are getting flu shots, though. Are they current on their pneumonia shots, too? Those you get every 5 to 7 years.

Hi Jen. We have not met, but obviously Brenda knows you! And if you have been reading the posts, you are getting to know ME pretty well. (Sometimes I forget everyone in the world can read these things.) Well, gosh, you are a TRUE Geek. And that is a compliment! I could have gone full board here and hooked up two monitors but I'm out of room on my desk. Servers? Nah. I'm just a baby geek wanna-be.

Wow, Donna. You do win the ex-wife prize! I've got to tell Bob about KMA. That's a good one.

That's right, you have tomorrow off! Enjoy the day. You earned it.

And Jen, you win the Bad Mother prize. It always amazes me at the EVIL that some people have in their hearts. I had a normal childhood. Thought everyone did.

    Barb:

You put it in a nutshell. Ditto Brenda on being lucky your husband thinks you are perfect. Mine feels the same way, bless his heart. He has always had more confidence in me than I have in myself.

I have sat at this computer all day. I have a very sore a$$. Not used to it. Have to get up and move a little!

Have a good evening. I hope we hear from Shelley, Peg, Judy, Terry & Ilse. Rachel is playing jet-setter. Prayers for a safe trip, my friend.

Jen, your story reminds me that no matter how awful our ex's may have been (or maybe "we" were the awful ones, LOL), the children are always the losers in messy divorces. And hey, feel free to introduce yourself here, too.

Small victory? Life is best lived as small victories, one strung after another

Judy, I think you are joined by Shelley and Ilse. Gosh CRS about TB. Second marriages have their moments, too, believe me.

Alida, yup always hope! Ya just never know!

    Hi Gang!

Writing from my friend's house in Ann Arbor, MI. Long drive today, but not as bad as Tuesday. My new GPS works great! Loaded it on my Pocket PC!

    Hi to everyone!

Brenda, I'm almost within spitting distance. See ya Sunday! Bring the camera.

Judy: Do you suppose I could call Bobby tomorrow morning? If not, I may need to wait until Saturday evening or some time next week. Monday we start out across the great Midwest and no more people to see. I'll have more time.

Gotta go. DH wants on the computer.

Hi to everyone. I have really interesting "Ex's" stories.

    Peace, Peg
