    Default Sunday Morning

I'm headed for the early church service this morning, in hopes of making a rendezvous with my prospective ice skating coach later in the morning. We've been talking about this for months, and haven't managed to connect.

Alida, glad the latest project worked so well. BTW, I've known many pastors who embraced "improvement projects" of one kind or another. One explained to me that it's the only thing in his life that ever gets "finished."

Sorry about the game, Shelley. But obviously there's no discouraging a Sooner.

Brenda, I've been trying to finish a pretty good whodunit. But the only chance I get to pick it up is right before bed, and darned if I can get through more than two pages at a time. I'll never catch the bad guy at this rate!

As for the flaxseed adventure--I still have a batch of my cereal premix to use up, so I haven't been grinding the fresh. And yes--my primary motive for buying the seed was to avoid getting rancid pre-ground. The stores I shop in do not refrigerate the ground flaxseed, and I think that's wrong. But I guess they have to shelve it where the other weeds and seeds are found, for customer convenience. The whole flaxseed from the bulk bin is cheaper by half.

The pre-lighted Xmas tree looks so cheery. I want to keep it all year! At the hobby store, I bought a little Santa suit (intended for stuffed bears) and dressed up the concrete Pelican that sits on our hearth. What a hoot! I was going to put the pelican outdoors when we first brought him home from the beach, but I was afraid he'd get "napped." Now he's Santa-Pelican. Of course, he's pants-less.

I've been coloring my own hair since I was seventeen, when I made a permanent commitment to being a redhead. I use L'Oreal. Lately, they've added a "resist" substance you put on the ends before coloring, and that creates a much more natural result right off the bat. Have you noticed how nobody has found that hair coloring causes cancer? They've tried. Either the hair color people have a phenomenal lobbying organization, or the FDA knows it would be burned to the ground by millions of women if they ever came out with such a finding.

Have a relaxed day everybody. P. S. Just caught the picture, Alida. Very lovely! No wonder your customers are happy.

    Hi Gang:

It's so funny to see you Easterners posting so "early." I got up early this morning after a difficult sleeping night. I'm going to take us deep:

I told you that when we drove into the Missoula valley, there was a heavy fog. It simply got heavier when we were out for dinner. Then the 10:00 weather said that it was going to be foggy with patches of black ice today.

DH and I had a brief tiff about whether to delay leaving today. I wanted us to think about staying at least until 11:00 or so to see if it lifts. He moved into his "I'm the Dad and you're the kid," mode. (Remember we are 10 years apart, and he has been a leader all his life) I really hate it when he does that. But, he was tired, and I decided not to challenge him on it until this morning.

Nothing scares me more than black ice. We are carrying an extra several hundred pounds in an SUV. I'll drive in almost any kind of weather (truly) than that.

So, I woke up several times during the night wondering if I should get up and write "good-bye" letters to my kids (yeah, I know. I'm way too dramatic. It WAS midnight and after). I tried several different scenarios in my mind: I could refuse to go. What would I do in Missoula? (He wouldn't leave me here. I KNOW that....but it was Midnight and after......) Many times during the night I replayed the accident we might have.

This morning he was devastated that I would take him so seriously. DUH! so, we are going to wait for a while and find out the weather and how they salt I90.

I'm going to call my bf in SoCa. I haven't talked to her for two weeks and I miss her. I was going to have to talk to her in the car with DH sitting right there. But, I explained to him yesterday that I didn't want to share my conversation with him. "Oh," he said. (Sometimes Men are so darn hard to get through to)

We are off to Washington State probably. I90 has had a big rock slide in Washington, so we have to detour quite a ways South. Since we have two more days, it won't be bad. Think we'll cut down to the Columbia river and then North again to Tacoma.

Alida: We'll spend Tks'giving with our son's best friend's parents. Funny. But, that's what they want. I'm okay since I don't have to cook it all myself.

Barb: Say a prayer for me. I miss church. I'll get back when we get settled in SoCa.

Peace and good thoughts to you all!

Hey, Alida - fantastic window! Did I mention that the Sunset Idea House had a color filmed window - very plain, basic color blocks. Everyone ooohed and aahhed. I mentioned to my companion that I have a friend (meaning you) who's window effects totally blow you away. Some ladies nearby overheard and later came up to ask me about the window etching. I sent your website via email to one of them.

We went to see the new Harry Potter movie last night at the late show - didn't get out until 1 am. No spoilers ahead, but skip the following if you want want to see the movie uninfluenced by outside opinions. It wasn't what I was expecting. They tried to cram too much into the 2.5 hour movie so there was not enough exposition or build-up. I didn't see how it would make sense to people who had not read the book. I asked DH (doesn't do recreation reading) if he got it; and he said he was pretty clueless during much of the movie. OTOH, it was late, and he normally shuts down mentally by 8:30 pm; so maybe he just wasn't paying enough attention. I read that the producers considered making it into 2 movies, as the book is so long. Instead, they stripped it to the bone and made it into one long movie. It would have been so much better with more detailed story elements. It's not not nearly as "magical" as the first 2 movies. Still, I think some people will may like it better than the previous movies as it is more like a typical, action-oriented film. But, I don't go to Harry Potter movies to see "typical". And another thing, the actor who replaced Richard Harris as Dumbledore just doesn't do the character justice. The new Dumbledore doesn't have the calm self-possession that's so essential to the character.

quoting Barb Now he's Santa-Pelican. Of course, he's pants-less. AhHAha! Funny image... must look a bit like Donald Duck!?!

Ah, DH is suggesting we get our show on the road. Hope to be back later with further comments.

Gosh Peg, you must have been sooooo anxious last night. (((hugs)) Hope you are already tucked into a motel safe somewhere, all curled up with knitting or book and much more relaxed, and that your driving was pleasant and uneventful weatherwise. Where did you unexpected route take you?

Alida, beautiful window! No wonder your client is so happy--lovely work; really makes a plain window quite special. On the Missing Link, there is a canine formula with added ingredients for arthritis, but only one cat formula as far as I know. TB has had experience with cats, so I defer to her. In the meantime, here's a link that gives the ingredients. It does mention joint problems....I like this supplier, too, by the way.

    http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/Missin...a_p/168006.htm

Actually I have very few relatives left, but they are rather spread out. However, I've lived in 27 places in the US, so I've been in every state except those in New England, and Alaska, and Hawaii. Hope I don't come across as a geographic know it all Not! Like Barb, I'm the product of a DF who was transferred frequently, most every year or more often in our case (though not in the armed services) and did my own share of moving around as a younger adult. I do miss traveling, but not moving. And my "twin cousin" ? LOL, We were born the same day, same year, two hours apart.

Funny you mentioned foggy memories of your "former life." I'm the same. Maybe better left forgotten, eh?

    Shelley
, I really got a kick out of your enthusiastic rendition of the Sooner fight song.....too bad OU stole it from the Tar Heels! <ducking>

Barb, love the mental vision of a santa-pelican! Get that digital camera for Christmas and you can send us a shot.

TB, LOL, you won't spoil Harry for this girl. Haven't seen the movies, but do have all the books, given by a friend, for some future reading.

I am exhausted!!! Even though it's just the two of us, I visited three grocery stores today to find my necessities plus Thanksgiving goodies. Hit the mall for a return, then came home to "relax" and spent about 3-1/2 hours giving my kitchen a royal cleanup. Also put a chuck roast in the crock pot to make an LC shredded beef. Anyone remember that old bbq recipe that had Coke in it? I LC'd it, and it's pretty darned good. Oh yeah, got the storm window back in, too.

So here I am with cup of tea, trying to post using a new keyboard and mouse which mysteriously appeared. It's ergonomic, bless DH's heart, but I haven't used one before and am hitting all kinds of strange keys. Well, even more than usual, I'll say.

Chugging along on Predator. Alida let me know if it's just me, ok? Barb, I get obsessive with a really good book and will stay up til all hours. It's not necesssarily a good trait when one has to get up at a decent hour the next day, truly. Good that you have something that lulls you to sleep!

Everyone, I'll check in later to see what's new...

    Hola gang!
Just a quickie fly by for me tonight. I am pleased to announce that I completed the Christmas shopping for the grandson...YIPEEEE...well, all except for that picture frame(Hobby Lobby was closed today). Now, I can concentrate on DH and DD. I'll most likely give DD a gift card to Kohl's so she can pick out what she wants...with her, I never know...LOL. I know what I am going to get DH I think, so that's always half the battle it seems.

Peg, wondering where and how you are tonight...I would think detouring south a bit might get you out of the inclimate weather? Hope you are safe, girlfriend!

Alida, those windows are very pretty...didn't you say that was a matching pair that you did? I can see how you would have to *contort* the body to do those bottom panes! You did good!

Bren, Judy, Donna, Barb, Teel, Ilse, Rachel and all......
Hope you guys are well and doing what you want to be doing at this very moment, whether it is drinking a cup of tea or cocoa or curled up with a good book.

This week is going to be rough I'm afraid. Extremely busy and that's not including any emergency case that might have to be added on at the last minute.
We will be working late on Wednesday :( The only thing I am looking forward to at the moment is getting these sutures out tomorrow!!!!!!yeeeehaaaawwwww!!!!!!
Maybe the suture removal will include an automatic attitude adjustment...LOL...Lord knows I need one right about now. OK....I can do this week...it's only 3 days...I can do this...it's only 3 days...I can do this...
    Wish me luck.... hehe.

    Later, chickadees!

Hi Gang! Can't seem to get on in a full reply. Everything was fine today. We are in Pasco, WA. (Sacajawea's birthplace) We'll have an easy two days coming up. We are South just above the Columbia River. The drive was uneventful (probably because of my worrying.....). It was foggy and cold until way West in Idaho. Some beautiful scenery, all forested until we got into WA. Then, desolate farmland. Whew! I really worried all those hours!! Dang!!

See ya tomorrow. We don't have to leave quite so early tomorrow. We need to be in Tacoma by dinner on Tuesday.

    I'll post tomorrow morning.
    Peace, Peg

Sorry I can't join in the Fight Song fight. I went to a women's college, and we didn't have a football team--only a lot of Clemson jocks from across the state hanging around--that was an all-male institution at the time. Testosterone hell, according to me!

Peg, I should have thought of putting pins on a map to trace your journey. I love the technology that lets me get e-mails this morning from Pasco WA and from Lake Titicaca.

I ended up ice skating for two hours yesterday. Met up with my coach, and learned a few techniques to practice. I had the rink play my favorite skating CD over the PA--the soundtrack from "Shall We Dance" (the American version, with J. LO). Everybody loved it! Bet there was a run on it at Borders on Sunday afternoon. Came home and caught a bit of the China Cup ice skating on tv. Irina Slutskaya is a pixie. There's so much joy in skating, but I can hardly imagine the hours and the raw athleticism it takes to achieve those championship levels.

Well...another week! Shelley, hoo-rah on the stitches. Hope things go smoothly, emergencies notwithstanding.

    Good Monday Morning!

Peg, Whew! You had me scared there for a while. TTL your drive was safe. You must be exhausted, though. I know when we drive in bad weather I am so tense and nervous that I'm a wreck when we finally stop. Hope you slept like a baby last night and wake up refreshed.

My Bob will also go into the ME Boss, YOU little worker mode. Frustrating. But then I remember that "take charge" quality was one I admired while we were dating!

You will have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Meeting new people, being with your son, NOT cooking and NOT driving!

Brenda, thank you for the Missing Link link. Sounds like a miracle supplement. The next time I'm at Wild Oats, I will buy some.

    LOL, you guys! College fight songs! I can't remember a one . . . .

foggy memories of your "former life." I'm the same. Maybe better left forgotten, eh?
    You are SO right.

I used to stay up late reading, but that was when I was "younger!" I get Predator today, but I'm in the middle of a Stuart Woods "Stone Barrington" mystery. That will take a week or so! Thank goodness I can keep renewing these books over the internet.

You had a busy day yesterday! Sparkling kitchens do make one feel good, don't they? I do not remember a BBQ sauce using Coke. Mind posting the recipe?

Terry, I hope your friends will find some inspiration at my site. If they need any help, just have them e-mail me from the site and I will do what I can to help. "Sunset Idea House" . . . is that an actual store, like a craft or hobby store? Any connection to the "Sunset" line of DIY books?

You must be a Potter fanatic to go to a movie so late at night! Very interesting critique. I know we will see it eventually. I haven't read any of the books, so I hope I can follow the story!

Barb: Santa Pelican! I love it! Please get a digital camera for Christmas so you take a snap of this. Reminds me of those Geese they sell that are meant to wear little outfits for all the holidays.

So glad you got a new tree WITH lights! Are the limbs the fold-up kind or the stick-in kind? We got ours about 15 years ago. Spent a lot and it's still in perfect condition. The limbs fold up, which is great, but it does not have lights. I keep the lights on the tree when I pack it up, but each year there's much fussing to get the lights just right. Friday's the day I always get the tree up and decorated. I love it!

Bulk flax seed cheaper by half? Sounds good to me. Think I'll add a coffee grinder to my Christmas List . . . and mention WalMart's 12 buck model.

made a permanent commitment to being a redhead.
So, what is your natural color? The red color looks so natural on you . . . very attractive! And speaking of hair color/cancer, I do remember years ago there was some scuttlebutt about certain colors causing cancer. Was it blonde? I do remember I didn't worry about it because my color was not the one they singled out. The L'Oreal color sounds nice and easy. Wish I had the gumption to do mine myself. Would save lots of $$, but probably PO my hairdresser!

Shelley: ACK. The next three days sound so hectic at work. You CAN do this, my friend! Sometimes when I am faced with a very hard day ahead, I just keep thinking "By tonight, it will be over." Sounds simplistic and obvious, but it helps me zero in on the fact that "this, too, shall pass."

And today's the day! No more stitches! Now that's something to be HAPPY about!

I spent yesterday cleaning house. Will spend today and tomorrow cleaning house, too. I just don't move as fast anymore! This AM, though, I am finally going to the Dentist about that broken tooth. Seems like ages since I broke it. But the dentist was off sick when I first called, then cancelled one appointment because he was sick again. Sheesh. Maybe I should wear one of those face masks! Can't get sick now . . . it's crunch time.

    Gotta run . . . have a good day!

Alida, my youthful hair color was a plain medium brown. My grandmother was a redhead, and I got the freckles. So I figured I was entitled to redeem nature's glitch. As you can imagine, red hair completely changes first impressions and people's assumptions about personality. So I believe that becoming a redhead has had a significant impact on the course of my life.

Now, judging by what I can see of the roots, my hair is significantly gray. This adds variations and highlights to the color, although the red fades to blonde-ish rather quickly. Again, NOT being gray-haired definitely has an impact on people's impressions--a valuable element in the illusion of youthfulness. Someday, I might decide to embrace The Wise Woman, and go straight to silver.

I think hairdressers make a ton of money off women's insecurity about messing with chemicals. However, most people who have their hair professionally colored get pleasing highlights, etc.--not always easy to accomplish by yourself. And it IS hard to pick a color that looks natural. You have to be willing to try stuff. Did I tell you about the almost-purple once??

Wal-Mart has several coffee grinders. The ones I bought are Black&Decker.

    Morning, gang!

Barb, you have me seriously thinging about skating again. I never skated at all until about five years ago when I decided to try it. Loved it and skated about a year until twisting my knee. By the time it had healed I was on to something else. Nothing quite like it for both exercise and exhileration--at least nothing I'm willing to try! I was just learning to skate backwards with a tiny bit of confidence.....:(

Clemson was all male once? Didn't know that!

Alida, much cleaning going on, but I do understand the Thanksgiving urge to have everything looking just right. And the dentist, too? Ack! I'll post the shredded beef bbq recipe next time around--although technically I don't think it qualifies as a bbq, but it's a nice taste anyway....

    Shelley, stitches out yet???

Peg, hope you're having a nice easy morning.

Judy, I see you out there, LOL. Bet you're working hard on grading; if not that, I know you're working hard on something!

I keep thinking about this hair coloring business.....right now I think I'm getting away with keeping my hair dark--still matches the eyebrows, anyway. However, at the point where I know I'm mostly gray, it will be fun to go lighter, do something different. Courage!

Gotta get moving before the remains of "the" cereal turn to concrete in this bowl.

    Hi Kiddos

I'm posting after 9:00 which has been our leaving time every morning. Today will be an easy day as we drive along the Columbia river. Did you know that this is the place that Lewis and Clark ended. The river is the Missouri River up to the Continental Divide (which we drove right over!) and then becomes the Columbia. Cool, huh?

Keeping up with all of you in my reading. Sorry I have to go. I'll post tonight from wherever we are!

Thinking about and praying for each of you.

    Peace, Peg

This weekend, we saw the Harry Potter movie twice, Friday night and Saturday afternoon. There is a lot going on in the book and in the movie. The movie could have easily been twice as long, but wasn't. I have read all the books. My DH has come with me to see all the movies. He doesn't ask me anything, but I do volunteer info as I think of it. I thought Mad-eye Moody's character was well done.

We did some shopping. I hate it when I get overly tired one day and can't continue. However, I do keep doing that due to discomfort in the knees. I still need to buy a turkey. Maybe today after work. I need to gas up too. We did go to Bed Bath and Beyond and got an extra-long tablecloth as we have the leaves in our dining table. I keep thinking we should get place mats. I don't know if I will get to it. We will have a total of 8 adults and two children.

Not eating well at this point.

I hope you are all doing well.
