Oh Good! Can't wait to see the Pelican!

Open picture in Photoshop. At the top of the screen should be a menu tab called "Image." Click on that. Drop down to "Resize" then "Image Size." A box will open up showing the picture image size in pixels and inches. There should also be a file size (might say Pixel Dimension i.e. 96k) Just keep changing one of the dimensions either pixels or inches till the file size is small enough to post . . . which I have forgotten already. If it's a really big picture, like 16 inches wide or something, try putting in 4 inches (NOT pixels) for the width and see what you come up with. BTW . . . do this with a COPY and save your original . . . . "Image" then "Duplicated Image."

Hope this helps, Barb. And have a wonderful "Journey to Bethlehem!"

Well, duh. Somehow I missed the whole second page. Sorry for the repeat on the Photoshop instructions. Barb, great Pelican!

Peg, so good to get a nice long post from you! Sounds like you are settling in! (Open windows? We are freezing here!)

Shelley, a red frame must have really set of that picture! When does your daughter leave?

Donna, hooray! on the done mudding! Just be careful of your hands with the sanding, OK?

I know Survivor is a game and all, but I really think Steph messed up by voting off Judd. And Rafe? He is really nice. If he gets to the final 2, I think he would win. Don't think he really PO'd anyone . . . .

Have a wonderful evening, gang. See you all in the AM . . .

Teel, actually it was Shelley's instructions that helped me capture the pelican. I still think there's something funny going on with Photoshop. I tried to get an image for an avatar on another site, and got all frustrated. Some other time!

The first night of Journey went very well. Most of the cast members were well-prepared. When I see the faces of the little children, and the patience of their parents, I remember each year why we do this. One more performance this evening, and we break down the set. We pack up everything tonight, and the church looks normal in the morning. That's another miracle! You wouldn't believe how much scenery is distributed throughout the building.

Donna, you deserve spoiling. Don't drink the bathwater, but do get yourself some LC chocolate just in case.

I have a new Yoga video. That seems like the right thing for today.

Back later to chat.

I'm here too, Peg. And, I'm glad to see you back "home." I am thrilled to hear that your apartment exceeded your expectations. I would have really been sweating that one.

I would love to stop and chat with each of you, but, I have to get going. We have a meet starting in 45 minutes. I need to get my chicks in a row, and hopefully get their brains in gear. Today's contest should tell me how far along we are. Honestly, I think we are behind in preparations. Our school calendar this year has been a hinderance. It has been entirely too choppy.

Later..........

Judy, good luck to you and the chicks! I hope they do well and have a good time, too. I only have a minute as I told DH I'd be ready to do a Costco run by 9ish and it's already passed 8:30 am.

I found a salamander - dark brown with tiny white spots - under a pot in the yard. It looked so sweet, but scared as it curled around itself trying to look inconspicous. I covered it with a propped-up cardboard box to shelter it until it got the moxy to go and hide properly. I tried to ID it from online photos. Perhaps a Santa Cruz, long-toed salamander; but they are quite rare and this is quite a ways beyond the only known breeding pond in the area.

I used the Pumpkin Thingie recipe, with Judy's suggested addition of 1:1 flaxseed, as a springboard to make a birthday cake for my DS. I quadrupled the eecipe, but it didn't scale up well for me. The cake fell after I took it out of the oven, but I'm betting it at least tastes okay. I've got to buy cream cheese for the frosting. I love Costco's 3-lb bricks of cream cheese! so cheap and so good!

.... later, then

Terry

Hi Gang!

What a beautiful sunny day here in SoCa. I still can't believe we are here. I went to the dollar store yesterday and got some Christmas decorations to put around. It looks a little festive.

It is a trip going from over 2000 sq feet to this little apartment. But, for now, I'm loving it. It's easy to "pick up" when it is this little. I can see all the rooms from the living room (hee hee). The corporate renting co. has been super and very responsive. Changed around the cable modem, fixed the dishwasher in about an hour from the call made, called last night just to see if we are comfortable. So far, it's worth the money.

Judy: I've got you and the kids in mind this morning. I hope that they are prepared beyond your expectations. I know that it is a big deal for them too. Check in tonight and let us know how it went.

Terry: I give you credit for thinking that a salamander is "cute." I think I would have gone screaming into the distance. I admire folks like you, but I keep my distance from critters.

We are excited to be near a Costco, but have to find it. My bf belongs and said that she would take us, but she is out straight with the holidays, in her store. I went by to see her yesterday and she said that she comes home and falls asleep. I can imagine. But, I'm glad it isn't me!

Barb: I have fond memories, elicited by your post, of family participation in various productions. Do enjoy. It sounds as if you are.

Brenda: DH off again, huh? Yay! (I mean, yay ) How're ya doin? I want all reading this to know that I have a beautiful bracelet from Apricot Lane Studio (our own Brenda). I wore it during the trip and it got lots of compliments. My bf wishes you were closer. She would like to sell them in her shop!

Alida: What are you doing this weekend? Working? Remember that my CRS is kicking in big time. I seem to remember that you have some weekend jobs.

Donna: I hope that today has some "me" time for you midst the sanding, painting, and general finish. How are your legs healing from that fall? Also, did the pooch survive and is he home now?

DH was talking about missing his truck yesterday which set my mind to thinking about "gone" things, which led me to Deuteronomy. I wonder how he is doing? (Sigh)

Well, it's shower time for me. The kids are coming today for lunch, so it will be good to see them. DH just got back from the grocery store, which is walking distance. Our mountains are "out" today with great clarity. I'll try to get a picture. They are spectacular and one of the reasons why we love this valley.

Peace, Peg

Judy, I can't find the info on how much flax meal you added to the "pumpkin thingy" I wanted to try that version.

Thanks for your help

Hi guys!
Thought I'd hop in here and try to post while I have a nano-second. DGS is watching cartoons, and his mom(DD) has already gone out for the evening with her girlfriends.
She got in at 0130 this morning, and she's out again this evening. I told her one of these days staying out late is going to catch up with her and give her wrinkles....LOL.
Her cell phone rings from the time she lands and until the time she's boarding the plane to leave. She thinks she has to *see* everyone of her friends every time she comes to OKC. Anyhoo, I'm getting in some quality time with my little Isaijah(pronounced Isaiah, like the prophet)...he keeps his old *noney* hopping... LOL.

Alida, they will leave Weds, Dec 7th. It's only a 1 week visit this time.

Peg, DD said my nose looked better than she thought it was going to look...whatever that means...LOL. I know what she meant, but I had to tease her a bit about it.

DD and I went shopping on Thursday, and I bought myself a little *bling*. A deal I couldn't refuse on a mystic fire topaz....yummmy! Anyhoo, I told DH that's what he bought me for Christmas and he's happy as a clam, because he's off the hook now...LOL. I gave DD a piece of my mom's jewerly as a gift, and she was thrilled. We were able to get it sized already, so everyone is happy

We have been forcasted for some blustery and cold weather starting tomorrow, with possible snow flurries...20% chance. In OOOOOklahoma, 20% means either a foot of the white stuff or 2 flakes fall on the yard...I'm hoping it's the latter.
Well, need to check on the GS...I think cartoons are over!!!

Hope everyone else is well...and a good weekend to all!

(((hugs to all!)))

First, Re the pumpkin muffin thingy (for Bert and Terry)........... I use equal parts pumpkin and flaxmeal. The recipe as Vickie developed it does not have baking powder in it. The flaxmeal bun recipe does. I intended to add 1/2t. to the last batter that I made, but I forgot. Terry, that might have improved the result that you had with the "birthday cake". You might also consider cooking it at a lower power for a longer time. It is really hard to cook cake sized items in the microwave and get them to come out evenly. Even my little cupcake sized muffins have fallen some. I wonder what would have happened if you cooked it in the oven?

Best wishes to both of you in your experiments. This pumpkin muffin thingy has now moved into first place of my favorite quick and easy recipes. I have always loved pumpkin bread, and my favorite part of this recipe is that you don't have to have a bunch of weird stuff to make it.

Now, for meet results. My kids did really well relative to today's competition. Note that I said "relative to today's competition". The competitors weren't as strong as I had hoped. One of the better area teams didn't show, and some of the other groups that I would have liked to see had competitions elsewhere. However, I think we are getting there. Tomorrow I'll work on projecting out today's scores to see how it compares to the scores that we had last year.

I promise to visit with everyone tomorrow. You guys have been busy this week!

I used equal parts of flaxseed and pumpkin in the cakes, too. Next time I might use less flaxseed to see if the cakes aren't so heavy. Mind you, I liked the 50/50 in the muffins, but it comes out differently in the layer cake, which you want to be lighter anyway.

Yesterday, I used 1 1/4 tsp baking powder and baked it in the oven at 350 until a toothpick, yada. So, today I did the same thing - except I separated the eggs and beat the egg whites to very soft peaks to fold in last. Today I baked it at 325. Today's cake "stayed up" better than yesterday's cake, but it still could stand some additional leavening. Maybe a few more egg whites, maybe beaten a bit longer?

I put the two cakes together and filled and frosted them with cream cheese frosting for DS's birthday cake. She's one of those v. honest types (even known to be quite tactless at times). She said the cake part could stand to be sweeter and the frosting was too salty for the cake ...and I agree. I should have used unsalted butter. But she liked the cake well enough to take the leftovers home. Believe me, she wouldn't do that if she didn't like it.
