How are you doing today?

The school day is almost over. Then, I have to decide whether I want to run errands or head straight home. I have returns for Hobby Lobby and Menards. And, I wanted to stop at Oberweis Dairy.

Friday, my DSIL worked on my car. He determined it needs new brakes and struts. He will price the parts. I got the car to him during my lunch. He was done with it the same day. Originally, he thought he was going to have to work on it on Saturday.

Saturday, we went to Sam's Club, stopped at an outlet mall so I could buy a new purse, had lunch at a Chinese buffet, saw the movie "Aeon Flux".

Sunday, I put some lights on the Christmas tree. I decided it needed more, so we got some at Menards. Now, I am trying to decide if the tree needs garland. I don't usually like the garland when it and the lights are on. But, once the ornaments are on, then I usually like it better. We'll see, no hurry.

I hope you have a wonderful day! Cold weather for a few days!

Hi everyone. I always miss not posting on the weekend but then I have lots to catch up with on Monday so it gives me something to look forward to. Not that I don't want to post...just too busy.

The good news is that the primer coat of paint is on the walls. Only took me 6 hours yesterday to do it. I have sore muscles on parts of my body that I didn't even know had muscles. lol Tonight I plan on painting the one darker wall...tomorrow night the second coat. If all goes according to plan, and if the muscles hold out,

Peg: My dil's puppy is doing okay. We were there on Friday night and just had to hold him to make sure he's okay. He just loves my dh so they had a little visit before he had to go back in his cage. They have to keep him calm so he just has to stay in his cage until the kids go to bed then he can come out and visit. Surgery will probably be in a couple of weeks.

Rachel: Sorry about your mil. It's so hard when you live far away. I went through that with my dad. Huggs.

Terry: Will the floors be done before Christmas? No idea. I've e-mailed my brother that I will be finished painting by this Friday so now I have to wait and see if I hear from him. He's famous for offering to do things and then you never see or hear from him for months. I'd love to have him do it cause he's a professional floorlayer. I'd love to have it done before Christmas though...something about plywood floors that just aren't too appealing.

Barb: You made me feel so special posting the zuccini muffin recipe. It's got to be one of my favorites too. I finally finished the stash of other muffins that I had in the freezer and I've been drooling thinking about making zuccini muffins. Just have to find the time. Also, I want to try the pumpkin thingy that everyone is raving about.

Now I have a question for everyone. Am I the only one that is having a problem keeping my weight at a steady number? I'm going up and down 3 pounds either way and I panic about it. Maybe this is normal? I sort of thought I might stay at a certain weight and everything would be happy forever after. Yup...just like a fairy tale. Maybe I'm panicking over nothing?

Got a little Christmas shopping done over the weekend, but I'm still not finished. Funny how finding one little thing that you know is perfect can make your day. My grandson is nuts about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. WalMart had the action figurines on for $4. We picked them all up, and I know he's going to love them.

Friday night we went to my grandaughter's christmas concert. I don't think I've laughed so hard in a long time. It was just perfect. I think the best part was sitting next to my son and sneaking peaks at him and seeing the look of pride on his face for his little girl. She was an evil flower in the Wizard of Oz, and did her part perfectly. She's very tiny for 5, but feisty. She had the whole group of flowers turning the right direction even though she shouldn't have been the director. I do have pictures...just need to find the time to scan them. Wish I had a scanner here at work.

Weather? More snow and really cold. This is not normal for our weather. Just have to put up with it I guess. Sure hope it's warmer where all of you are....don't gloat Peg! lol

First, Rachel I'm so sorry to hear about DH's Mom. I'm sure you are both so very exhausted, frustrated, and anxious. You both must be physically and emotionally exhausted what with her illness, your travels, and no rest in sight with your schedule. Take care of yourself and each other. But now I must tell you, I'm not a bit surprised that your skills and experience are so valued--don't you sell yourself short! Ya know, we understand that life gets hectic , so honestly don't ever worry about just jumping in when you can, ok?

________________________

Sorry, I've been MIA the last few days. However, sometimes I post way too often, I'm sure, so these little breaks make up for it :o Actually, for most of yesterday I thought the the DSL was down, but late in the day it finally occurred to me to try DH's pc, and voila! internet! So it was just my pc all along--new version of Norton evidently deciding to block all access. Turned Norton off and will let DH deal with it.

Yes, DH is in FLA, and I'm a busy gal, getting my internet shopping done (only a few things for me, honest!), cleaning, and last night wackily deciding to replace the shelf liner in the kitchen. A sure recipe for kitchen chaos! But with some veggie soup burbling in the pressure cooker, it was a rewarding way to spend the evening, believe it or not. Of course, yesterday morning was spent shoveling snow BRrrrrrrr! But it was beautifully sunny and the snow was light and picture perfect--and the exercise didn't hurt, either

Speaking of kitchen, though---Judy!!! made your Pumpkin Thingie Muffins this morning! Love em!!!!! Thanks. Didn't have nuts or cream cheese, but threw in a tad of whole flaxseeds and used a healthy dose of Penzey's Apple Pie spice for the seasoning. I will admit to you that this is the the first LC baking I've ever done, other than the dreaded mock danish (erp....) How did your Aca Dec stats turn out?

TB, I always have pumpkin in the house, because the furgirls get a spoonful in with their meals every day. It's good for adding some fiber (and vitamins) and seems to help normalize their digestion. I'm surprised cats would like it, though! Wow, your pc graphics skills are top notch. I'm sure I'd your friend was thrilled!! Love those stone stair steps!

Peg, what a relief that your apartment doesn't disappoint! Interesting that your DH doesn't quite know what to do with himself. I think retirement will be an interesting learning process. How was the UCC service??

Shell, is that little guy still running you ragged? And aren't you loving it???

Alida, you're way ahead of me in Christmas decorating. Everything is still in the garage attic (sigh), but I've been looking for a new wreath and can't find anything I really like that's reasonably affordable.

Donna, woohoo! You've got primer! Crossing fingers that your brother will come through for you. Can't wait to see pics from your dgd's production And,,,,,,obviously I will need to try zucchini muffins, although I almost fainted at the thought of a CUP of oil, LOL!!!! I do "moderate" fat, so I'll need to run it through Diet Power for stats before I let my imagination run away with me.......

Donna, I think it's almost inevitable that your weight will vary. Most women's weights, anyway. So many variables--salt intake, amount of food and water, and the vagaries of your digestive system, hormones, stress levels, phase of the moon, you name it. Since it's impossible to gain/lose several pounds of fat on a daily basis, really it's wise not to let those variations throw you. Look at the overall trend (I love graphs for this) and when you are up consistently over time, or when you reach your own personal panic point (like 5 pounds), THEN analyze and see what action you might take. But the day to day stuff, although frustrating, is actuall normal.

Barb, glad you're enjoying Monkeewrench. Hope it holds up for you. I'd absolutely love to be in your class--fascinating stuff! I may look for that book, too, at the library.

Ilse, the word on the grapevine is that Trader Joe's in Algonquin will be opening this Friday. Possibly one of those quiet, unannounced openings to give the staff some practice before the official one. Anyway, that's the gossip from the nearby Vitaminshoppe.

Well, supper is next, more soup, chicken, and roasted brussels sprouts. Yum! Yes, the furgirls like those, too.....

You are actually making Brussel Sprouts for yourself on purpose??? Brenda Aacck! (or "erp" to use your language)

Got the car fixed this aft. Cost us 2 big ones (hundred). But, we put 5,000 miles on it just coming here so I think that's not too bad for a 5 year old car.

DH is fixing one of our favorite dinner tonight. It is a mexican pepper casserole. The recipe is in the original "Moosewood Cookbook" if you have that. It has green, and red peppers and onions browned, and a custardy thing to keep it together (eggs and cheese). Delicious.

Wow! I've got to try that Pumpkin thingy, if it made you bake it, Bren. We don't have pumpkin in the house, nor spices either. But, we keep running out of things. We'll get it when we go to the store.

Donna: So glad that you have that sanding and mudding done. I hope that you get your painting done in good order. I also hope that your brother comes through for you.

Barb: Yes. Let us know how you are doing with Monkeewrench. I'm anxious to see if you figure out who the killer is.

Brenda: We enjoyed the service yesterday. The Church is within walking distance. We saw a couple of people we knew quite well when we were here last (23 years ago). The church itself is quite progressive, which I loved! Next week we will go to the Baptist church. Think we'll invite our son to go with us. He expressed interest when he was here the other day. This is the church that DH was serving when we fell in love and married.

Well, see you guys tomorrow. We are off to the University of Redlands tonight for the Feast of Lights.

Peace, PEg

Hi all.... thanks for your lovely words! It has been a rough time - mostly because we just don't have time to reflect... I am baking all week for the Bazaar on Saturday - and I had a lovely time wiht my Georgian folk singers last night (made them persimmon cookies - we have BAGS of persimmons that I just can't throw out - so it's pies, cakes, muffins, cookies, and bread until I can't stand it any more).

We are out with the local companies that DH works with tonight (holiday party) - it won't be bad but given the otion, my druthers would have been to stay home and bake or chill out!

Peg, so glad to hear you and DH are settled and keeping busy (sounds like you are faring better than DH ! ) - Are there likely to be any parishoners around still from years past? It is neat that you are meeting people you've known... sounds like this is going to be a very nice place to be in retirement!

Terry, I loved the "Barb" pics!! Very nice - it is very hard for people to envision what something could 'potentially' look like - this kind of assistance is so nice!

Donna, you are a "this old house' queen! I can't get over all the work you are doing - I look back over posts from previous months and you are just so industrious. It's inspirational - you set out to do it and then work away at it until it is finished - bless your heart and I can't wait to get the whole 'virtual tour' once it is all done!

Shelley... I love your new avatar - you are so beautiful, those gorgeous eyes! I'm so delighted that the whole nose thing has gone well and that there is no apparent scarring. Are you exercising again these days?

Brenda... thanks for such a lovely message - we are both a little overwhelmed with everything lately - but kind words help give perspective, that's for sure.

Alida, Barb, Judy.... much love to you all and thanks for your many hugs... it means so much to me that you guys are all here! It is so comforting just to be able to sit at the computer and read/see your lovely selves!

well, I'm off to the US Embassy commissary to pick up things like brown sugar, karo syrup, wesson oil, and brillo pads (yes, things the Georgians never heard of and can only be found in American PXs overseas!!).... I'll check in every so often and see how you're all doing!

Good morning!

We are having a quiet morning so far on the student front, so I should have time to deal with this.

Just as the school day was winding down, my DD called me with the cost of the parts to replace my brake pads, rotors, and struts. The parts alone were almost $500! Money I don't want to spend this close to Christmas. I talked to my DSIL. He told me he could grind the rotors, the pads I have to get, the struts could wait ($170 each!). The pads will cost me just over $50. I can live with that right now. I would prefer to wait on the rotors (around $100 for two). I promised to stop at the Kia dealer and get the pads after work today.

I still need to stop at stores to do returns.

Brenda, let me know about the new TJ's. I wonder how it will be. Especially let me know about any specials for their grand opening. If you are looking for a wreath, you could do what we did. We got a undecorated fake one from Lowe's. (I think it was around $16 for a 24" wreath) It was pretty realistic looking too. Lowe's had some pretty bows, so we got a nice big one (red with silver edges). I bought some nice-looking snowflake oranments at Menards and attached those to the wreath. Voila! A decorated wreath! (and decorated to my taste) I'm sure you could come up with something. We had looked at wreaths at a few places and didn't like any of the decorated ones.

Well, I wish you a wonderful day!

Hi Gang!

My goodness, I can't believe that Alida hasn't been on yet! And, Barb, where are you?

This list is getting a little quiet, you guys. Are we all busy then..? I can understand that. It's Holiday time.

Rachel: So goo dot see you! Keep posting when you can, darlin. Your seat in the circle is warm and waiting for you.

The Feast of Lights last night was just magnificent. A choir of 300, a full orchestra including strings, and all the drama of candles and readings of the season. It was great. Also, we saw several people we knew 23 years ago, and received warm welcomes from them all. That was nice. Performed at the University chapel, which holds about 700, it was packed full.

But, remember, I am an introvert. By about the second hour, I was ready to go back to the apt. and fade into invisibility. Sigh.

DD3 and I are IM'ing and she just invited me to a boutique at her museum on Thursday, and then lunch! Yay!

Well, that's all for now. I'll be checking back to see you.
Brenda: Don't you EVER think that you post too much! Dang it.

Peace, Peg

Hey Gang.....gang???? OK, I'm wondering where our usual two early birds are this morning, too.

Ilse, yeah, I'll probably end up making a wreath if I can get myself in the mood. Will let you know about TJ's.

Peg, nice evening, BIG choir! I forgot Redlands was a University town--that always makes life more interesting, IMO. Lots of varied activities for reasonable prices

DD3 works for a museum? I don't think I remembered that Hooray for the invite. Sounds like a lovely day.

LOL yes, Brussels Sprouts on purpose. I oven roast them a la Charski, and could probably eat them like popcorn that way. Really, it does make them quite tasty. Honestly!

Rachel, good that you live close enough to take advantage of a PX. Just having some of those little touches of convenience (and home) mean a lot I would think. Wish we had an audio of your choir!

Watched Finding Neverland last night--being a fan of Johnny Depp in most of his cinematic incarnations. Eh. Ok, I guess. I have Garden State for tonight, but am looking forward to finding Love Actually I like bawdy, if it's "nice" bawdy--you know what I mean.

Other than that need to take a box to Goodwill and get DH's car serviced--just oil and radiator. Peg and Ilse, not the best time of year for car expenses, is it, but best to be safe.

Hope the rest of you are well, wherever you are!!

Oh, it's nice to be missed when I behave out of pattern. Don't know about Alida, but I only took time to read the thread this morning, without posting. I actually saved a few minutes for pressing a sweater set to wear. Most of my nice shirts live in the ironing basket and I never wear them.

Persimmons? I don't think I've ever actually eaten a persimmon. No doubt one of the most underappreciated fruits in the U. S. I suppose they are best picked off the tree in one's backyard, wherever they happen to grow.

As for Monkeewrench...I'm not one to second guess the mystery. I'll let you know if I have an inkling.

Ilse, you get a lot done!

Then again, so does everyone here. Amazing.

Good morning all. The sun is shining on the snow and it actually looks quite pretty outside. Just good to see the sun period.

I did one coat on the darker feature wall last night. Took almost 3 hours. The 2nd coat will go on tonight. I was starting to panic that I won't have it done by this weekend and then my brother phoned me this morning and said he can't come until the 18th. Whew! That takes some pressure off. Gives me an extra week to paint. My dh is worried that he won't come on the 18th...but I'm at the point where it just won't matter. I'll put the tree up on the 19th regardless and we'll just have plywood floors for christmas. No big deal. (but laminate sure would be nice lol) So, now I can take my time painting and maybe throw some baking in there somewhere. I still have to bake for my stepson and my inlaws. Time is running out.

We've been invited to a 50th birthday dinner this Friday night so we'll probably end up staying in town and then finishing our christmas shopping on Saturday. Plan on looking for new coffee and end tables and the small rug to go under the coffee table at the same time. We stay at my inlaws house so I get pampered a little too with having my tea ready in the morning and breakfast made for me. Gotta love those people.

BC: In my house...when the kids are home for supper, I have to cook about 3 pounds of brussel sprouts. They actually fight over them. One of my favorites too. Can't get the furkids to eat them either. The was interesting that your girls like pumpkin. I've never tried to see if mine do. I'll have to try it. I know Lily loves raw yams. The vet was quite impressed with her teeth on her last visit. He said dogs with the pushed in faces have a rough time chewing so usually have bad teeth but hers are pearly white and in good shape. I think all the raw veggies help.

Rachel: You said it when you said "old house". When my dh and I got married he wanted to buy this old house as a fixer upper. Obviously I didn't know him as well as I thought I did. If I had, I would have known he doesn't know the right end of a hammer! That's why I've waited 20 years to have the work done and finally put my foot down this year. He's a sweetheart and definitely a keeper, but a carpenter he isn't. I'm the kind of person, that if I want something done, it should have been done yesterday so I just do it myself. It's gotten me in trouble more than once....like the time I hung pictures using my meat tenderizer mallot....poor wall!

Hi guys,
I find myself with a nano-second again today...LOL. Actually, DD has taken DGS to Norman to see his half brother. They are picking him up from school, then the boys will play for a while, and then DD is taking them to dinner and will meet up with the other mom. I'm glad they are all civil and on good terms, for the little boy's sakes...it's all good.

Peg, I will most likely be sending you a PM in the next day or 2. I need your guidance and input on something, if you don't mind.
Glad you are getting your new *nest* all feathered...LOL. I know you are glad to have a home again after the big trip.

Bren, you sound good. Glad you are feeling in the pink again! I thought of you this morning while DD and I were out doing some power shopping. I found the most adorable doggie dinner and water bowls with matching plastic placemats....to cute!
Made me wish I had a furkid again...almost.

Rachel, (((hugs))) sweetie. So sorry your MIL is having such a time. Sending prayers and good thoughts your way. You are one busy little cookie!! You are wearing me out with your schedule....whhheeewwww. Don't forget to take care of you too! I can't seem to get back in my gym routine due to the nose thing mostly, but then work was really really bad for a few weeks, then DD and DGS's visit for this past week, well...it is soooooo easy to fall out of the exercise routine. But, I plan to *attack* again this weekend, at the latest. I actually bought 2 pair of workout capris on sale today...so it IS on my mind...LOL.

Donna.....YIPEEEEE for actually getting to the painting!!!! I know you thought that day would never come! Crossing my fingers that your brother does hold up his end of the deal and that you have that new LR in time for a beautiful Chritstmas!

Teel, I'm glad you have your new floors in the working as well. I can see where waiting until after the holidays would be a good deal as well. I for one, get overwhelmed pretty easy sometimes, so I would most likely opt to wait until after the holidays also. This way the kitties get a *calm* Christmas...LOL.

Alida, my dear, just where are you????...LOL. You know we all worry about our clan when one goes missing. Hope you are well, and are just busy...in a good way that is!

Barb, I thought of you today also. On our way out of our sub-division, there is a house that has 2 large concrete/plaster geese on their front porch area. Yep...those birds were totally dressed in Santa attire...LOL. Really cute and festive.

Ilse, glad you are doing good. Sounds like you are a woman on a mission...LOL. Getting things returned before Christmas can be just as frustrating as afterwards, I do believe.

I to, am going to jump on the pumpkin thingy bandwagon. I have all the ingredients, so I figure it might just make a tasty breakfast to make ahead and take to work.
Anyway, if I decide to do some *tweaks*, I'll share the results....ahem...when have I NEVER not tweaked...hehe.

Got to scoot...DH thinks he's ready to go to early dinner and I'm waaaaaay cool with that....means I don't cook tonight either...woohoo!

(((hugs to all)))
later, chickadees!

Flash post out to let you guys know that I am still alive. I don't even want to go into all that I have done and still need to do this week. Just trust me, between regular school stuff, Aca Dec, and Christmas my tushy is dragging. I got home from school after dark today. Tomorrow I'll probably be there until 8:30 or 9:00 PM.

Please don't remove my seat in the circle --- even though it has grown cold

Good morning!

I was like Barb yesterday AM. Read all the posts then got sidetracked for the rest of the day. I actually had a lot of office work to do.

Have an early job today . . . for the US Army. Putting dec film on 66 panes of of glass. So this post will be short but please know I am keeping up! It really is wonderful knowing there's always a seat by the fire here at LCE!

Peg, it really does sound like you are loving Redlands! Hmm. DD2 works for a museum? Like Brenda says, not sure we knew that. Those types of Bazaars are great. Usually I find waaayy too much stuff to buy! And the Festival of Lights must have been very uplifting. Every year at Christmas I pledge to do something other than decorate, shop, write cards, wrap, clean and bake . . . like going to see the Nutcracker, or a Christmas concert. And every year it slips by me. One year we did go see Mannheim Steamroller. That was FUN.

Brenda, I know the frustration of not finding a wreath you like at a reasonable price. That's why I make most of my decorations. My hobby for years has been flower arranging . . . doing silk arrangements. I bought some plain "Smell of Christmas" candles and added my own decorations (see below.) If I have time, I'll try to post a pic of my front door wreath. It's as easy as Ilse mentions . . . . gotta have a glue gun, though!

Brussel Sprouts? You are the second or third person who has raved about these little things. One day I might actually try them!

Shelley, you are having such a wonderful time with your daughter and grandson! I am so happy for you. You mentiones DGS's half brother. I take it your daughter had a son in a first marriage? It's really great that she can get along with (the first husband's current wife??)

Judy, gosh you are working your little buns off! LOL about your post just to let us know you are "still alive." But it's good to see your posts!

Rachel, I know your life is hectic now, too. How is your ML doing? (((Hugs)))

And what is a persimmon? I've heard of them. Just don't really know what they are!

Donna, yup, you do win the Reno Queen award! It would be nice to have the new floor for Christmas . . . but I am glad you are not stressing over it. Perhaps putting it off till after Xmas will free up more time for you. Don't forget to post some pictures of your DGD's performance! And enjoy the pampering at your inlaws!

Ilse, you are a busy bee, too. Returning stuff can be so frustrating and time-consuming. Glad you found a wreath. Making one to your liking and taste is fun!

Barb, LOL about your ironing basket. My ironing hangs on my treadmill. Sometimes for months.

Terry, your talent with Photoshop is amazing! The pictures were really great. I know your friend was just thrilled with being able to see what it would look like. I saw your note about candied nuts in the Cooking Forum. I answered, sorta off topic, about the chocolate candies I made with the MiniCarb bars. Easy and very good.

I do need to get going (sigh.) Oh! We got THREE phone calls about the business yesterday! One guy is coming over Thursday. Another call was from an old customer! He said he was looking to buy a business for someone else. My guess is a brother-in-law or something. He didn't bat an eye at the price. Bob remembers when he bid the job for him that this guy mentioned he liked our business! Yikes. His wife saw the ad in the paper and was wondering if it was us. We tinted their whole house and 3M replaced FIVE windows due to stress fractures. He said he liked the way 3M stood behind its product. So . . . fingers crossed. If we can get our asking price, that will take a lot of pressure off my back.

Have a wonderful day!

Peg, I'm pulling right up to your fire this morning. The temp only hit 20 degrees here yesterday, and we're expecting snow this afternoon. Hey--it's too early in the season for all that in KC! Ack.

I skipped the workout this morning. Will try to do something later today. My excuse is giving blood yesterday. I'm still down a pint--and a pound. But the water will replenish, and I'll be up to speed (and up to weight) in no time. Today I can get a flu shot at the office, and will do that.

Donna, I love my sweetheart dearly, but next time around, I'll choose (a) rich, and (b) handy with a hammer. Oh well. Can't have everything.

Stay warm, dear ladies. P. S. And here's Alida, posting at the same time. Back to read that right now!
