Default March 2006 Tracking

Good morning!

Hmm. I'll bet Barb may be starting a March thread, too! If she does, will one of the moderators straighten this out?

Welcome to the Tracking Thread, where Vets support each other on the journey called Maintenance. Feel free to join us!

I may add to the above, that we support each other not only on our low carb journey, but The Journey of Life, too!

Judy, OMG. Your poor husband. That's an awful way to wake up in the morning !! I would have wrapped up the whole thing and put it in the garbage, too. I envision him (after planting BOTH feet into the goo) of standing there wondering where to put his feet next. No matter what he does, the mess goes further! With pets, I have learned that it's important to turn lights on first!

Donna, another OMG. You know, when you were talking about the table finally being delivered I had the fleeting thought of "What can possibly go wrong NOW." Guess something DID. Oooh. You must have been steaming. Were you able to contain the Trucker Language? Judy's idea of writing to Corporate is excellent. I would make it a nice but strong letter stating all the facts. Mention your disappointment in the company. Mention the hassle. And then mention how you are so sorry, but you will NEVER shop with them again. I'll bet you'll get something out of it, maybe even a refund????

Peg, glad your "home!" (Starting a new thread is hard because I can't check previous posts unless I want to open another window)! Bummer about DH's gout. Is he taking blood presure meds like Donna's husband was, that CAUSED the gout? Just wondering ?.

Please take care of yourself. Take a few days "off" and rest, relax and pamper that body of yours. Full set of nails? Been there and done that until I was tired of being married to my manicurist. But they do look wonderful!

Lhasa Apso eh? Cute as a bug's ear. But hmm. YOU mention the barking. KIM mentions the barking. BRENDA mentions the barking. Maybe re-think, huh?

Brenda, you may end up giving some knitting lessons while at the CONVERGENCE! Would you do me a favor? Bring a SOCK. I want to see one of those!

Sorry you were feeling a little down yesterday. (OK, you were feeling crappy). Hope today is a beter day for you, and Khaki, too. Poor little one. It's probably a good idea to wait until tomorrow to investigate the leg.

What a cute story about your dog and the Postman! As a pup, Roscoe loved our mailman. Then as he got bigger some doggy coin must have dropped and he realized he's supposed to BARK when the mailman comes.

Rachel must be in the air somewhere!

Everyone else, hope all is well!

No contract yet. Our lawyer went out of town and the lawyer he handed the project to did not go into work yesterday. Maybe today. The new owners have already called us with two "leads."

Almost everything is ready to "hand over." I want to GET ON WITH IT!

Have a great day everyone! It's MARCH. Spring is in the air!

Morning out there. Big waves to Alida and all who follow. Welcome to March! Amazing!!!!

I'm up and moving a bit earlier than usual. Dexascan appointment this morning, a bi-annual ritual. DH is off to work, and the pups have decided that if I'm not going to do anything interesting (and interesting things generally only happen in the kitchen ) they'll go back to sleep.

Ok, Alida, I'll bring a sock, and if anyone wants to learn to knit I'm sure that Peg and I can thoroughly befuddle them

Back later....

My dilly-dallying this morning paid off. Alida REMEMBERED that it was March, and got everything off to a good start with a complete update.

I woke up very early with a headache, so I took two aspirin, slept through my workout time, and then went straight to breakfast and work. Spring is definitely in the air this morning--time to break out the Miata. I'll put on my sneakers and go for a long walk at lunchtime, too. I'm feeling like a chubby bear coming out of hibernation--although I guess after hibernation, bears are actually pretty skinny. Oh well. Spring is a good time to set new goals and start new resolutions. Today's the day they open for memberships at the new YMCA, so perhaps I'll stop by on my way home. Spinning classes anyone?

Be healthy everyone.

Good morning!

How is everyone? Not much happening here.

I spent about an hour looking at eyeglass frames. I didn't order anything yet. I think I have hesitated as I am trying to figure out if it is worth spending an extra $45 to get an anti-reflective coating on the lenses. The eye doctor said no, my DD wishes she had gotten it the last time she got glasses. Any thoughts?

Today, I think I will take my DGS to the pool after I get home today.

I wish you all well.

Note to Ilse,
IMHO it IS sooooo worth the extra $$$ for the anti-reflective coating. Many reasons, but computer work is the most important, at least to me.

Picking new frames and all the hoopla that goes with it can be frustrating!

Good luck and happy frame hunting!

Hi Gang!

Well, I'm going to have to give up and admit that I am in a FM flare BIG TIME! I am able to walk, but my muscles are very sore. Feels like flu, but it isn't. I am so fatigued (goes with it) that I can hardly stay awake. I wish I could rest, but we only have 11 or 12 days left here and I need to do ALOT of stuff before we leave. I've got a list a mile long! Today is grocery shopping.

thanks Alida for starting this thread. Have you told your dh yet that you are coming to the CONVERGENCE??

Brenda: What's a dexascan?

Barb: Today is the day I start induction again. I've gained about 10 lbs since we left MA. I know exactly how I got it. I've just eaten anything I wanted for the past several weeks. All the "pulls" to sweets and carbs are back. Sigh.

shelley: You are up early today. Are you working today?

Terry, Rachel, Donna, have a great day. I'll be back to lurk.

Back from Dr.

Peg, aw dang...do take care of yourself as much as possible, ok;? Rats on the FM flare :(

Dexascan--bone scan for osteopenia/osteoporosis; I'll bet you've had at least one, Peg.

And on dogs....not all lhasas bark incessantly; it tends to be an individual trait more so than a breed trait believe it or not. Nevertheless, smaller dogs of all varieties "seem" to bark more than larger breeds, possibly because people with small dogs may tolerate that behavior more. Bichons can be great little dogs, as can Coton de Tulears, some ShiTzu's....well "some" of almost any of the breeds can be great dogs. I love Cairn Terriers, but like all terriers, they require exercise and activities. I have also fallen in love with a Chihuahua named Sarge who boards with bf--a totally bulletproof little guy, not the shakey stereotype. Think twice and then think again about a dog, though, Peg. As much as I love them, to do them justice takes a huge time commitment, not to mention maintenance bucks (grooming and veterinary costs).

Ilse
, it is ABSOLUTELY worth the extra for the reflective coating. It not only helps glare, but it also keeps your lenses from reflecting light to the viewer, ie, your eyes are more visible to others and in pictures. You look more like "you."

Barb, hope the headache has passed....

Shell, hey kid!

Later, kids..

Good morning. Sun is shining, sky is blue, table has a new tablecloth on it :great:
What else could make the day better?

Judy: I love your idea about writing a letter to the corporate headquarters and I'm going to do that. Definitely, I'll never shop there again. As for the present left by Lexie...if it was my dh that stepped in it, there would also be a pile of barf there too. The man just has a weak stomach! He'd be screaming for me like Fred Flintstone did for Wilma.

Peg: Does you dh take diaretics? That's what was causing my dh to get gout. Get him some black cherry juice from the health food store and he can either just drink it in water or make a drink with berries and ice cream. Sure helps my dh. Sorry the FM
is acting up again. Also, I think any dog can be a barker. When we got our Japanese Chins we were told they didn't bark at all and it took a long time before we heard Lily bark. Now her and Sora do it all the time. I agree with Brenda, that we let little dogs get away with far too much.

My Lucy will be getting checked out later today to see if she's diabetic. I'm hoping it's just old age, but I don't want her to be sick either so best to check.

Ilse: I'd get the antiglare on your lenses too. Only reason I didn't this time is I'd have to wait a week longer to get them and I'd broken my glasses. Well worth the money, I think.

Weight wise: I'm actually down 1 1/2 today. I figured it was just water retention, but that's a new thing for me. Never bothered me before. I'm still far too high 156, and I feel pudgy and fat, so I'm going to keep plugging along and being very careful. I have a tendency to eat too little too. Last night while watching TV my stomach was growling and I just kept looking at the clock telling myself it was just awhile before bed and then I could sleep and not think about it. Stupid. Finally settled for a small piece of cheese to shut it up. No one said we were supposed to starve on this woe.

I thought yesterday was Mar.1 for some reason and screwed up on several accounts because of it. Today my calendar keeps turning to Mar.2nd. Someone somewhere trying to tell me something?

Shelters and Petfind.org perhaps? You know, a lot of Katrina pets are still misplaced and waiting in shelters. Unfortunately, a number of those shelters are losing their funding/leases (just like the human victims :-( unfortunately). There was an article yesterday on msnbc.com about the scramble to try and re-situate the companion animals still waiting to be re-homed.

I'm sorry about the FM flaring up - it's very frustrating, especially when you know you have a lot to do that cannot be put off. I know it's bad; all you can do is to try to pace yourself - do a little, rest a little... repeat. Try to get better than adequate protein and water, too, for a while.

Peg, so sorry about the FM. One of life's nasty twists. Do you what you need to do.

After phone tag with the doctor's office for days, I finally got my thyroid evaluation taken care of. Since the last test in October, my profile has skewed out of range. We're going to bump up the thyroid dosage a bit more. (I'm changing over from levothyroxine to Armour thyroid, and it takes some adjusting.) He also noticed an out-of-range reading in some liver function number. So I'll be back to the lab for another blood test in six weeks. Don't know what that's about, but we'll see. I've got a bone scan on the 9th. I also need to schedule a mammo. I'm overdue.

This afternoon, I'm going to stop by that new YMCA on my way home and sign up. Time to ratchet up my workout routine another notch. It will be interesting to see how well I can sustain a gym-based routine, since I've been such a faithful home exerciser for a long time. I'll continue working out at home, of course, but I'm looking forward to playing with the equipment and taking some classes. I'm a social type--in case you hadn't guessed.

I did get out for a walk at noontime today. It's hot out there! Who'd ever guess this is March?

Hi guys!
I'm gonna have to beg off of a long visit :( I've run out of time and energy for the day!
Got a lot of spring cleaning done today, so it's a good feeling kind of tired...heh!

Barb...funny you should mention bone density and mams; I just got my mams scheduled today for next month. Wonderful...I'll have a whole month to brood over it. It's really not that bad I guess, it's just the thought of it. Anyway...we MUST take care of our bodies, and statistics show that mams are a very important step in detecting early *things*.

We have 2 major grass fires here in the state; one has burned over 5000 acres just north and east of OKC, and the other big fire is south near a town called Duncan.
We were up to 90 degrees today and the winds were very strong, so perfect conditions for the fires. We may get some much needed rain by the week end, but in the mean time, the fires just keep popping up...aarrgghh.

Donna....glad you got the table...I could say more, but I'll leave it at that

Alida, Bren, and Barb, I got your PMs...thanks! If majority rules, then I think I'll make dinner reservations for around 6:30PM...split the difference, so to speak.

Judy...did you get your new rug for your bathroom? It looked neat!

Ilse...hope today's search was fruitful for whatever you were on the hunt for!

Peg...so sorry you are in the clutches of an FM flare. Sending you good thoughts and get well wishes. Take care of you!

Rachel.....you should be state side by now, yes? Hope your trip was smooth and hope your jet lag goes away fast...but, does it ever?

OK, galpals...I'm off to get things ready for work tomorrow. Early day and long day...ack!

later, chickadees...
(((hugs to all)))

Blah, I feel fat........... Heck I am getting fat. Late afternoon today, totally dressed with gym shoes on, I weighed 150 on the Curves Scales. That is the absolute most that I have weighed in three years. I have to do something and do it soon. The trouble is, I can't get that switch flipped again. I do not want to chub up, but right now I can't seem to get past exhaustion and a hundred other excuses. Sorry to be a bummer on everyones parade today, but I need to put it out there. Blah.

rant ended.........back to grading papers.

Ah, Judy (((hugs))))! You've been on a superwoman's schedule for months. It's no wonder you feel blah and grasping for motivation! It is really challenging to get past the habits and cravings we acquire in the maintenance phase. I feel the cravings monster lurking over my shoulder almost constantly thanks to the usual... too much food at night, too many LC marginal foods.

Try to get rested up - have a veg out day or two if you can stand it (I know that ain't easy for you Type A people!) If your outdoor weather permits, maybe shake up the routine with some different kind of exercise? Maybe hiking, walking, biking, dancing, tennis - something that's kind of pleasant or fun to do regardles of it's exercise value.
