Barb, are you looking for specific weight loss or is this induction more of an inches thing? Do you also watch calories or do you tend to do true induction? Just curious - asking a vet to learn more about how/what to do right...

Hi Gang!

Well, here I am on the first day of induction, and I feel as thought the switch is sort of between itself, yaknow what I mean? I'm doing it but I'm not jumping up and down hopeful. I did, however, announce it to dh and he is my biggest cheerleader, so that is a good thing. I weighed in this morning. oh god......I've gained back all but 13 pounds of my original weight three and a half years ago. I'm not going to post my numbers until I get a little lower. I'm not surprised about it but I just don't have the guts to post it here.

Terry: I've been on that drive too. We did it when we were out in your neighborhood. I agree that it is one of the most beautiful in the world! Amazing.

You know I noticed last night when I was reading this thread before bed that you use water instead of ice in your smoothies. Is that right? I was using ice and found that it never quite got crushed, despite what the directions say on the blender. Maybe I'll try using cold water instead.

Barb: Thanks for your encouragement on the eating. You are a treasure. Also, thanks for the explanation about ending a sentence with a preposition. Almost every week that I am writing sermons, when I go back to edit I rewrite sentences so they don't end with a preposition! It is so ingrained in me that I feel "bad" when I do it in public.

Bren: CONGRATULATIONS about the switch! I'm jumpin' up and down happy for you! Your happiness is contagious. Keep it comin'

Judy: Oh, how I wish I could be a little mouse in the classroom with you on Friday. I'll bet that you are wonderful and loving with those "at-risk" kids. That is the population that I most enjoy working with. (preposition)

Alida: Sail through this treatment my dear. And please come here to whine. It's only when you do that that we can know how you are! Of course, if you don't want to whine because of your own spirit, well, then, we will celebrate with you that this part of the "health of Alida" is over! (I mean, Well and Healthy)

Donna: I continue to pray for you and your dd and ds. Wow, there is a lot of chaos in your family right now, huh? How do you handle that? My neighbors upstairs (who I love dearly) had an intervention with one of their sons last night. The entire family gathered to confront him about his lies and his lifestyle (drinking and drugs). They are all adults. I haven't heard yet how it turned out. I am anxious to hear.

Rachel: You sound perky, kiddo! I am with your dh on the need for bran etc. I have had IBS several times in my life. It seems that lc eating hasn't cured any of the things that it does with so many folks. But, eating Maggies cereal every other day and drinking my water helps.

Well, I'll bet that Shelley is having grandma fun right now. I envy her. My dd3 is doing better. This week is spring break for the kids and she is worried about what they will do since she is barely able to walk yet. I DO WISH I WAS THERE!

Okay, about the interview: It was very good. If they decide against me it won't be because I didn't do my best. I was who I am. I answered questions true to what I believe and was strong and good. The only hang up was the salary and they are trying to cheap out on the interim position. I asked for a considerable amount more than they had budgeted. We did a little bit of negotiation, but the committee will do the rest and get back to me. It is a "big steeple" church (has money) and they offered me considerably less than dh is getting this summer at a "little steeple" church (smaller and less money). Some churches don't seem to understand that they are hiring an expert when they hire me. They aren't just picking someone out of the interim barrel. I have to gently educate them to that fact. Some get it and some don't. So, anyway. I am okay either way, if they hire or if they don't. I did my best and I feel good about it; much better than I did when we "phoned it in."

See ya later
Peace, Peg

Hi, Rachel. I want to drop five pounds. That would put me in the 130-135 range, instead of 135-140. Actually, I'd like to lose ten...but you know how that goes. The real reason for doing induction this time is to get my head cleared of creeping bad habits. Too much wine. Too much food. Induction includes accountability (Fitday), which demands honesty. Gotta make myself see it.

I don't know why I haven't dropped a pound or two since I started those high-intensity cycle workouts almost a month ago. Another good reason to use Fitday. Maybe I really have been eating more to compensate for the additional work. At least I have the advantage of truly enjoying my workouts. I don't have to flog myself to add exercise to my life.

Right now I'm wondering if cutting out caffeine is worth it. I feel woozy. I might have to cave on that one.

P. S. And here's Peg! Thanks for the report on the interview. Interim is a tough challenge, and worth paying for. I know you'll sweetly hold their feet to the fire.

Good morning!

Gosh, I slept until 6:30! Rachel, I think your deep sleep is just a mind at peace getting the rest it needs. You mention you are sleeping like you did when you were depressed. Hmm. Don't even go there. I agree with your DH. It's perhaps a metabolism change or even (gasp) you just may be more tired than you know with all that running around!

Barb:
Quote:
Teel, that thing about prepositions we're not supposed to end sentences with? Well, it's a crock.
WHEW! I always thought that was a stupid rule anyway. The "proper" replacement -- Teel's "with which to fall in love" sounds so stilted.

So you are starting Induction, too? I can give it a shot, but I think I will wait for Shelley and join her on the 10th. By then, this taste in my mouth may be gone and I hopefully will not be constantly standing in the kitchen looking for food to change the taste. Yesterday was awful. Too many Diet Cokes, chocolate, cheese Nips (yeah, those things). Plus lunch was a bunch of Roquefort melted and wrapped in TWO tortillas.

Brenda: HOORAY! You've got that Lovin' Feeling! That is awesome! If you feel 119 is a little high for you, what is your goal?

I used to be 115 a long time ago. And I remember still trying to diet! Sheesh. I wore a size 2 or 4. I also remember some clothes did not come small enough for me to wear. Bob says I was too skinny then. As he says, men like to keep their b*lls off the sheets. Bless his heart.

Peg, I am dying to hear how the "face-to-face" went! I had to laugh at your "but then" monologue. Every point is valid. Some can cancel each other out -- like if you do take the job, you will be earning enough to perhaps hire a stager instead of doing it yourself. Pro/Con list may have to be written and weighed.

Judy, see? Cetaphil is very popular! And here's another reason why you are teacher of the year: helping at-risk students on your day off! You have a teacher's heart.

Terry, "Half Moon Bay" sounds sooo romantic! Although you went on a quest but DH wasn't "ready to buy?" Maybe the egret you saw just did not hit the proper buttons with him. It might be one of those things that you will find when you're not looking for it.

Your menu yesterday sounded perfect! Which reminds me I have to make a big batch of jello! And yesterday I did try a PB smoothie. I used some half-frozen strawberries, a scoop of vanilla whey protein, some water and a tablespoon of almond butter. I used water because I was out of cream. Should have used a little Diet 7-Up. But it was still tasty. The addition of the almond butter really added to the taste. Thanks for the tip!

Donna, looking forward to your Monday Morning post!

Brenda, I still don't know what Festoons are! You aren't talking about bags under your eyes, are you? If you are, I didn't notice them! I am looking at our Friends picture and all I see is a beautiful face with a radiant smile!

_________
OK, my friends! Today is the LAST TREATMENT! :bellydanc I am feeling a little better this morning and the taste in my mouth seems to have lessened. TTL. That tells me it is not a permanent condition. Whew! This also tells me that after today, I should have about five more crappy days before I start feeling better and can stay that way! Tra-la-la. I have printed out the info on ZINC and will hand it to the doctor. I am tempted to say something snide like "ever try the internet?" but I know I will not. However, I AM going to tell them to re-adjust their patient "knowledge." Before I started, they led me to believe I would have no consequences whatsoever. What a crock. Maybe it is individual, but patients should be told up front about ALL the possible consequences and not told in dribs and drabs after the procedure starts. I am very lucky I am able to take this time off. I imagine many patients are not.

Have a wonderful week! And GOOD LUCK to all those starting (and continuing) Induction! XXOO

By all means Alida, do educate your docs in your sweet way. Patients have the right to know how any medical procedure will affect them, especially something so new where there's no common body of knowledge "out there." You take take and know we'll all be thinking of you...

About goals, I felt and looked best with I was 106 and relatively buff--see avatar above--that was at 52 and I should change it.....Anyway, I think I'd be thrilled this time around to be 108-111. LOL about your husband's comment!

Festoons--Rach's word for bags under they eyes. She was referencing herself, although I wouldn't have noticed. My festoons I guess are the normal age related variety, but I do have unlovely darker circles <sigh>

Barb, if you hear a big sigh of relief from Chicago, that's me. I always wince when I leave a preposition hanging dry, but do it anyway. Old training does die hard!

Bet you haven't lost (yet) because you're still adding muscle! I imagine those haunches and thights are even more like bowling balls and pillars than before you started cycling

On coffee, I read that coffee (caffeine rather) before exercise actually helps get fat in the bloodstream so that it can be burned. That's all I needed to know....and justifies coffee just about any time I need it...

Peg, feeling good about your interview! Great!!! Sounds like you gave them a little education to boot--too bad their preference is "cheap." Thanks for the update' it will be interesting to see what they decide.

The pulled pork tastes wonderful, by the way. I sampled it last night before putting in the fridge, but we'll dine in style tonight.

TB, the rusty egret statues would be my preference--unpainted. I love that look. However, it might not serve the purpose as well, eh? Your area must be SO beautiful--envy here!!!!! :ivyhead:

Rach
, I agree with Roger, when your metabolism is perking you go great guns during the day and sleep deeply for as long as you need at night. So if you feel good, are eating right, have energy and good spirits as well--CELEBRATE, girlfriend!

Judy, Shelley, Donna Need to start my day
Hugs to all!

Brenda, Ha! Know what you mean about hanging on to older, better pictures of ourselves. The one I have on our business site (new one still not up yet -- waiting for picture of new owners) has to be at least 12 years old. Heck, it was old when I posted the initial site.

So Festoons are bags. Rachel, honest to God. I did not notice any bags!

Peg, I am so glad the interview went well. You are so positive about your knowledge and skills. Wish I were!

Hiya!

Peg, don?t fret the posting of numbers and such ? in fact, don?t EVER post them if you don?t feel the need to ? you?re doing this for you ? remember! I loved reading about your interview
Quote:
I was who I am. I answered questions true to what I believe and was strong and good.
you are such a star! I hope they hire you and I hope you blow them away (I know you would!)? <<hugs>>

Barb, I hear ya! And I envy <<green monster>> you enjoying the workouts ? mine are a chore, every one of them, and every minute of them. <<sigh>> If it wasn?t for the compulsion to do the right thing (genetic programming + eldest child dying to please + host of other bullsh*t in my head), I?d never exercise again? never.

Never had a problem with the prepositions ? but I admit to flinching every time I hear/read a split infinitive? use to bug me whenever Star Trek started ??to boldly go?? I used to love Blues Traveler and saw them in concert years ago ? bought a t-shirt that claimed in big letter across the back, ?We?d like to personally thank your mom? Ugh! Sorry, guess I?m a grammar geek.

Alida, BRAVISIMO for the last treatment!!! If anyone can be tactful with the docs ? you can (good thing my DH isn?t there ? he?s more like a terrier, barking and snapping at everyone).. and the festoons are those dreaded bags under the eyes ? not the circles. I have particularly unattractive ones and I?ve seen now how a good surgeon can fix them ? I?m excited to have them ?taken care of,? in Soprano speak.

According to eMedicine,
Quote:
?Festoons of the eyelids are redundant folds of lax skin and orbicularis muscle of the upper or lower eyelids that hang, in hammocklike fashion, from canthus to canthus when the face is upright."
Love the ?hammocklike fashion? ? just not under my eyes! LoL!

Bren, 106, wow! And even though you say that avatar is out of date ? I just love it ? it is probably my favorite on the whole LCE website ? it?s gorgeous and gutsy and dare I say, INSPIRING!! Just my two cents.

Well, it?s getting later and I need to get a few things done this evening before bed ? it?s going to be a busy week and I go to Armenia on Easter Sunday for a week of work. Lots to prepare?.

Hope you are all well?

DH is back from Barcelona. I guess he did a lot of walking and looking around. The buildings by Gaudi were pretty amazing inside. Here is a link to some pictures. He had the most pictures from Sagrada Familia (an incredible looking church) and Casa Batilo.

http://www.gaudidesigner.com/anglais...ents/accE.html

Still no new glasses. Hoepfully this week sometime.

I finally finished my taxes!!

DGS is on spring break this week. He is visiting up in Wisconsin for a couple of days. DD will drive back there tomorrow.

33rd coming up at the end of the week. I am off from school. I don't know if my DH will also take the day off.

Wishing you all well.

Good morning ladies. Tried to post on the weekend, but just ran out of time and energy...too much going on.

I'm not sure just what kind of day this is going to be for me and I'm not looking forward to it. My poor Lucy kitty is sick and has to go to the vet this afternoon. She will be 18 in September and I think her age is catching up on her. I just might have a decision to make and I'm not looking forward to it. Why is it that dh never has to make any of these decisions and I'm always the one left feeling like a big sh*t!

Saturday we had our first baseball practise in town. Nice weathr and I enjoyed sitting in the bleachers watching the guys. (a little snickering done, but don't tell them). We have a new player this year that's trying very much too hard to belong and some of this comments just didn't sit right with me. Calling my dh "old man" was a definite no-no. So, being the shy quiet one that I am, I had a little "rookie" talk to him. He was pretty humble by the time I got through with him. (yes, I did it nicely) Our pot luck dinner was nice also...too many things that I couldn't eat. But, just sitting with friends make it okay.

Sunday was gorgeous again so I was outside most of the day. The yard is coming along great. Looks like we might even have green grass for pictures on Saturday when we have the Easter Egg hunt for the grandkids. This is dh's job (hiding eggs), and he takes it very seriously. Last night he was mapping out where to put the eggs for the littlest guy so he doesn't end up not getting his share. Too cute.

As usual, I didn't drink even close to enough water on the weekend and too many diet cokes. So my weight is back up to 157. Brenda, I'm with you in that I think the exercise is holding our weight back. Muscles forming. I cut the grass again on Sunday and spent the rest of the day pulling weeds and cutting back borders. No time to even eat. Still didn't lose any weight. One day I will learn how to relax.

Peg: Chaos in my life? Hmm...never thought about it that way. That's just me. I had a tea leaf reader once tell me that she felt sorry for me because I've had a hard life. I guess when this is the way it's always been, you don't think other people have different lives. Take what's given to you and run with it. I have a roof over my head, food in my belly and money to pay my bills. What more could I ask for? Well....losing 10 pounds would be nice. lol

It took me forever to catch up on the posts this morning. Wow...whoever said women can talk? lol I'm sure this is the busiest thread on the whole computer! I can't even begin to answer all of you.

Peg: I'm so glad that your dd is feeling better. About 10 years ago now I woke up one morning with a terrible stomach pains that just didn't go away. Dh took me to emergency and the doctor said my bowels were blocked and I would need surgery. I was sent to town by amulance the next day and was supposed to go straight to surgery. But, the surgeon decided to wait and see if they cleared themselves. I was hooked up to an IV and wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything. After 3 (that's right it was 3) weeks, they decided they should operate. Turns out my appendix had shriveled up and grown scar tissue which was wrapped around my bowels three times! If it wasn't for the morphine I was getting all day and night, I'm sure I would have died from the pain. So, now I have a 9" scar running down my stomach. But, like someone else said....I'm not bikini material anyway. So, glad that your dd didn't have to go through what I did.

Made the twice baked fauxtatoes for dinner last night. Geez, I could eat the whole bowl of those things. Dh doesn't like cauliflower and swears he can still taste it...so, there's plenty for me for leftovers tonight.

Brenda: We went to a new pet store on the weekend and the girl that owns it knows everything there is to know about feeding pets. After talking to her for quite awhile we are now feeding the dogs the Barf diet. They aren't impressed, but that's all their getting. Of course, they had diarrhea yesterday from all the protein. I think they are tired of having their back ends washed !! lol Anyway, she swears it will help with the shedding, lose weight, give clear eyes, nice breath...all kinds of things. I had to heat it a little and it smells good when it's warm. Starting them out with just a little and then add 1/2 a cube each day.

Better get back to work. It really puts a damper on things when I have to work. Oh...forgot to tell you.....I caught that damn mouse!! Yea for me! I used an empty ice cream bucket. Felt so proud of myself. I'm not afraid of mice, but they are dirty, ya know? Okay, I guess I should admit that once I got it outside on the grass, it just sat there which told me that it had gotten into the poison that's under the trailer. But, he's out of here anyway. The guys wanted to know if I had stomped on it....now that's just cruel.

Time for an afternoon break with my buddies.

Ilse, thanks for the link to the Gaudi pictures. I've always wanted to visit Barcelona. Even though I lived in Madrid for two years as a preteen, I never got there. Good luck on the glasses.

Donna, what an incredible hospital ordeal! Yikes! Glad that's way in the past. You did good with the mouse. They are nasty and smelly, too. We usually have to put out poison in the fall, when they move indoors.

Maybe it's time for me to cook up some fauxtatoes. I love 'em and the guys don't fight me for them. First I need to find out if there's room in Fibber McGee's fridge.

I caved big time on the coffee at about 9:30 this morning. No headache, but my brain was just not functioning. I could tell that my job today depended on a hit of caffeine, so I went for it. No biggie. (I'll try not to make the same excuse for even an eensy-beensy glass of wine this evening. That one definitely has to go.)

Thanks for the updates everyone. Thinking about Alida improving the practice of modern medicine.

Actually I use both water and crushed ice to avoid getting those ice chunks. I've noticed that any frozen "chunk" that's too big will do that - even frozen pumpkin and large frozen strawberries.

I've started nuking the cannister with the frozen pumpkin cubes or larger frozen berries for a few seconds to get them slightly thawed before adding the other ingredients and blending with the Magic Bullet. That seems to solve the problem. Of course, sometimes I've nuked it too long and lost all the "ice", but that's another tale.

Oh, Donna! I hope it turns out to be soming minor and fixable.

But, please DON'T feel guilty if you do have to let your cat be euthanized. Our animal companions are lucky that they have us to do this last, great favor for them. In that respect, we treat our pets better than our own species, in my opinion.

A friend of mine would say, "We take away their pain and make it our own". The grief and loss is all too difficult to bear; but it should not be compounded by guilt when we help our friends out of their pain.

I stopped by Sam's Club. My glasses are in, but didn't pass inspection. They have to show them to the Vision Dept manager and probably get a new lens ground (It might take at least another 10 days or more) I have a picture of how they look (with anti-reflective coating)

I am thinking about alternatives, possibly. (Like trying to get another pair from a place that can do them right away)
