Good morninh!

We're getting rain today.

Yesterday, I drove up to Wisconsin for a girly afternoon. The other people had a slumber party, but I had to get home to let my dog out. Almost everyone else did hair color, maybe a trim. I watched. Much later, we headed to another house for pizza. I left around 11:15pm. I took a wrong turn, so I took a scenic route home. Instead of a 2 hour drive, it was 2am by the time I got home. (2 hours 45 minutes) I was lucky to find an open gas station at 1:15am.

I got up to Wisconsin a bit early and went to a store called Shopko. I found a shower curtain there (45% off). I think will match well enough with the other stuff I bought a while back. I think it would look better with an orange or red liner, but I haven't looked to see if they make liners in those colors.

I think I will run out to do some errands in a bit. I've been lazing around today. Considering it was around 3:30am by the time I fell asleep, I didn't really sleep in. I'm sure to want a nap later. Maybe I will get a haircut if I find an open place.

I wish you all well.

Oh, Peg... Rats on that headache! - what a rotten time for it, too. Not that there's a good time.... But to have a migraine when you are at the shore is just horrid. I hope you can sleep this one off and that it fades quickly.

Alida, THANK YOU for those window tint definitions! The dealer hear still has not answered my email questions yet. But, I'm think I'm going with the Prestige50, which has 44% glare reduction and a U-value of .47. The Prestige40 (the darkest one) blocks a little more glare, but has the same U-value.

I was showing the 3M window tint samples to my DSis yesterday, and now she is all excited to get her windows tinted, too. Her issue is blocking heat, more than glare. She has a 2nd story condo with a west facing sliding glass door (opens to small balcony). Her place really heats up in the summer and fall. I shared your comments with her, and it sounds like she wants to go with the NV 25 or 35.

This was the rainiest March on record since they started keeping records in the late 1800s. Couldn't help but wonder how many cubits Noah would be needing if called upon to build a new Ark. April's long term forecast looks just as rainy.

My good friend came to dinner Friday with her new boyfriend. Her 14-year old daughter and his 11-year old son came, too; so it was a lively and fun evening. We played poker after dinner with grandpa's old poker chips. Indian poker was the hit of the evening. My friend brought a very non-LC, but ~luscious~ dessert, which precipitated a major carb binge Saturday when we were out and about. Consequently, I'm bloated amost beyond recognition and have really noxious gas (sorry! TMI!).

Saturday was dry and partly sunny, so we (me, DH and DSis) took advantage of the break between storms and drove down to Carmel Valley Village (inland from Carmel-by-the-Sea). Carmel Valley is a narrow chasm cutting through the seaside mountain range. It runs east/west, so it's very sunny, despite the sheer mountain sides. That situation gives the area an amazing climate and dramatic views. The village is 11 miles up the valley and dotted with unique stores featuring unusual garden accessories from different parts of the world - Asia, Mexico, Europe. I mean BIG stuff, too - Jean de Luz has a large establishment in a converted dairy. The interiors and open areas are filled with monumental statutes, fountains, doors, fireplaces, and other architectural features reclaimed from the Basque region of France. You feel like you are in a museum.

We saw something really funny on the road yesterday. We were going about 70 when a little red sports car went zipping by in the right lane. It's license said "TICKTME". Pretty brazen, eh? I figured it must be someone with a "get out of jail free" card. Sure enough, about 20 minutes later, we saw the dude pulled over to the shoulder by the highway patrol. Ya know, even if I wasn't gonna get the ticket, I wouldn't want to be bothered with being pulled over all the time... personally.

Rachel, your cheesecake sounds truly wonderful. Probably worth a little splurge, eh? Another time, perhaps you could make an LC version, too. Often, when I have to make dessert for non-LCers (some of whom turn up their noses at so-called "artificial sweeteners"), I'll make two versions at the same time. I put out two mixing bowls and ingredients for the non-LC version go into one bowl, the LC version goes into the other. Then, I bake them side -by-side. So, it's not a whole lot more work or clean-up than making just one dessert. I add food coloring or nuts to the LC version so I won't get mixed up about which is which.

Donna, I'm so sorry about your daughter losing her friend -- that's so hard. Aalong with you, I'm hoping she can turn around on the drinking and find some treatment or local support group. Have you noticed if the drinking is worse in the winter? I've wondered if there's a connection between excess drinking and SAD (Sunlight Affectiveness Disorder). I hear ya about the frustration of MIA DHs! My DH disappears every weekend to play golf. We've reached a slightly uneasy truce - now he rare plays more than once on the weekend and -usually, not always- very early in the morning, so he gets done early enough to still do a little something with me.

Shelley, your bird neighbors must be lots of fun! I would love watching the "apartment" complex fill up with new residents. I think I don't mind the presences of hawks, much myself. When they take a small bird (often, startlings according to my book), it's for their own sustance. Besides being noisy, the dastardly crows on the other hand, wantonly destroy small song birds nests, wiping out a whole generation to no avail. I was looking at water guns (super squirt guns) on the web the other day wondering if they had enough range to keep crows from nesting in the large trees around my home. Dang things nest so high up!

Ilse, whew! what a night! I'm glad you made it home safely, and yeah, I'd say you deserve a bit of a nap today.

Hi gang!

Peg....so sorry you have a crummy-ole-ickky headache!...aacckk!
Take care of you, OK? Come back and visit when you feel better?

Rachel...now you've turned the tables, my dear! You are my exercise/walking hero!!! I can't seem to get in gear with my running plan. I was doing so well and then the weather got crummy and then work got crazy and then....yeah...pretty lame excuses when it comes right down to it...<sigh>
Well, after my return from LA, I am going to hold my own feet to the fire...heh!

Alida...You've got me wanting some of those space bags...plus I saw a really neat *info-mercial* on them yesterday. I think that might help with some of my linen storage problems. Hummmm.....

Barb....so you did the ole *wash the car rain-dance* eh? I'm really good at that one too. Seriously...if I wash my car, it usually rains within 72 hours. The only time it failed me was the past few months of drought we had. I betcha if I had waxed the car with the washing, that would've work!..LOL!
We had severe T-storms last night. The winds were gusting 40-60 mph and it rained *sideways* LOL. Our martin house was really rockin' in the wind. Thank goodness there are no eggs yet in the nests...they would've been on the ground for sure.

Brenda C...paging Brenda C...your party of 9 awaits your arrival!!!!
Hope you are OK and not down with a migraine to. You are missed!

Judy...What are you up to this weekend? Did you guys get any of those storms last evening? They looked like they extended down into Texas as well.
Hope you are doing good

Teel and Ilse...Howdy! I may try to grab a nap later to, Ilse. This time change kinda messes me up a tad the first day or 2.

Donna...getting lots of yard work done? I have to tell you, I made the muffins this morning. I tweaked the recipe a bit, but they still came out pretty good, if I do say so myself.

Well, these are the changes I made to the muffins if anyone is interested.
First, I had to make up some *faux Atkins bake mix*, so I did, and it works well in the muffs. Secondly, I only used 3 eggs plus 1/2 C egg beaters. I didn't have that many eggs and I had already been to the grocery this morning...duh...I forgot to put eggs on my list. Anyhoo, then I only used 2/3 C olive oil instead of a whole cup. I added a hearty dash of ground ginger in addtion to the cinnamon, and lastly, I only used 1C splenda and added 1T stevia plus and 6 drops of liquid splenda. I got a full dozen muffins PLUS a baby loaf pan as well(which was not as full as it could have been, so I'm thinking it probably equals another 2 muffins). So, assuming I got 14 muffins, here are the nutritionals per fitday per muffin)
191 cal; 5.3g carb; 1.5g fiber 7.7 g pro; 3.7g net carb
I also used my new silicon muffiin pan...it's super! Anyhoo, I've double wrapped these little jewels and they are in the freezer, ready to take on my trip...it they survive until then...hehe!

Did everybody remember to set their clocks ahead? We have so dang many, I did forget the clock in the sewing room...aka *Rachel's room*

Well....guess I will see what else needs my attention today. It's really a beautiful day considering last night was so ugly!

later chickadees...
(((hugs to all!)))

Good morning everyone. I was up brighg and early this morning thanks to the dogs thinking it was a work day. Now that it's daylight savings I have this terrible habit of automatically deducting 1 hour off the time and that makes it worse getting up at 7 instead of 8 on a day off.

Shelley: Glad you liked the muffins. I'm going to lessen the oil the next time I make them too. When I take them out of the freezer and put them on papertowel to thaw, I find a lot of oil comes off on the towel. Maybe cause I use olive oil? I made 2 1/2 dozen yesterday, and all but 2 made it to the freezer. Also made a low carb pizza, that's stil in the fridge waiting for lunch time. *drool*

Alida: No idea yet what happened to dd's friend. Seeing as he was in his housecoat, people are thinking maybe his little dog got out and he went out after him and lost his footing and fell down the embankment next to the river. But, we'll probably never know. So sad.

Peg: So sorry about the headache. Take care today, okay? I do agree with you that alcoholism is a disease. I've had people close to me die of it, and my brother was in intensive care for 44 days due to it. Then my ex was an alki so unfortunately my daughter got the gene. I very seldom drink, maybe cause I've seen too much damage done. I do like my diet coke though!! Yesterday, I went shopping and bought her a steak, asparagus and the fixings for caesar salad so she'd at least have a good meal in her.

I got all the grass cut yesterday and fertilized. First time I've ever fertilized the lawn but somehow I've got moss growing in the lawn and it's taking over. Hope this stuff helps, but I have to keep the critters off it for 2 days.

Alida: Hostas are about the last to come up, don't worry, they are there. Mine aren't showing up yet either.

Well, it's warmed up outside, so I'd better get out and wash windows. Not my favorite job.

Thank heavens for the auto recovery capabilities.......

Oh my goodness, here we are in the middle of page 2 and it only the middle of the 2nd day of the month. We have to be the busiest thread on the board?.. well, maybe except for Kim?s Journal. Last week, I tried to do all comments in alphabetical order. Today I?m afraid that it will be comments and responses pretty much in order. Thank heavens for being able to have multiple windows open.

Quote:
I think Rachel's idea of starting a little challenge is good! What seems to be your biggest problem? Night eating? LC sweets or even regular sweets?
Thanks all for understanding. I was pretty sure that I wasn?t alone in the dumps of gaining back. I do like the idea of running a challenge and trying to get back in control. What?s my main problem??? #1 is probably snacking. It?s like I constantly have to have something in my mouth. Then there is not drinking enough water, and overall eating like a field hand. Yesterday, I made an effort to get back on track. I posted numbers in FitDay, and got almost a whole gallon of H2O in. Today the scales rewarded me with a one pound drop. Geez, I wish it could be that easy for the next nine pounds.

Quote:
Maybe we should talk about what we felt like when we were doing OWL successfully. What were we doing that made us go on? In my case, I think it was Diet Power. Being accountable. Measuring food. There was also the excitement of seeing results. What about you?
Love the idea! I think one of the things that really kept me going was buying smaller clothes. The new of that sort of wore off, and the thrill was gone. Now I can?t wear any of the size 8 pants, some of the 10s are tight and I bought a pair of 12s the other day. I don?t have any fat clothes any more. 12 is as big as it gets at my house ? AND, I?M NOT GOING TO LET IT GET ANY BIGGER, EITHER!

Quote:
What stitch are you going to do the baby afghan in? I have one going in a *basket* stitch. It's been so long since I worked on it, I've probably forgotten the darn stitch by now....aarrgghh.
It?s really simple. I ended up not using a pattern ? one row single crochet, the next double and then repeat forever. The yarn is appropriately named ?Lammie Pie?. It is very plush. The good part of the is that it hides mistakes and is making up to be a very soft and light weight blanket. The bad part is that I?m certainly not making perfect stitches. When I started, I just chained what looked like the right width. The actual yarn is very hard to find in the midst of the plush fuzz. If I have used a pattern, I don?t think the design would have really shown up. As it turns out, the blanker is wider than I had originally intended --- oh well, I bought plenty of yarn. It will just be a bigger blankie. Basket Weave??.. sounds interesting. If you find the pattern, fax or mail me a copy.

Quote:
Looks like my dd got her eyes opened but not very nicely.
Oh Donna, I?m so sorry to hear that your daughter is continuing to have trauma. I know that translates to trauma for you, too. (((Hugs))) as you work through these issues.

Hubby gone again???. Two words to think about ?SHOPPING THERAPY! Get after it! When he gets the bills, he might decide to stick around a little more.

Quote:
And another thing......I've given away all my "fat" clothes!!! I was so certain that I would never get here again! I can't believe the way I look in my "skinny" (well, let's say, "less fat") clothes.
Do I ever know that feeling! See above comments.

Quote:
Sorry, I'm being such a whiner... love me anyway? I guess Judy and Peg aren?t the only ones feeling like Old Man Winter has not been good to them!
I started the whine. Today is the first day of Daylight Savings time. I am sooo glad. I hate it when it gets dark early in the evenings. I think that?s one of the reasons that I don?t exercise as much in the winter. I really hate getting home after dark.

Quote:
I shouldn't have bought that huge jar of mixed nuts at Costco last week. Not the worst snack, but hard to control.
Another of my major problems. I almost go into a panic if there aren?t nuts in the house.

Quote:
Hopefully my body will be clear of the steroids. I was reading up on them yesterday. Turns out they can raise your blood sugar and your blood pressure. They also make you hungry. No fooling!
Oh Alida, I knew that, and I was hoping that you wouldn?t have to take so many that it would cause you to gain. My mom took huge levels of steroids when she was taking cancer treatments. They have some really nasty side effects. I hope you finish with them soon.

Quote:
Considering it was around 3:30am by the time I fell asleep, I didn't really sleep in. I'm sure to want a nap later.
That would be a definite at my house!

Quote:
very non-LC, but ~luscious~ dessert, which precipitated a major carb binge Saturday when we were out and about. Consequently, I'm bloated almost beyond recognition and have really noxious gas (sorry! TMI!).
There is a show on TLC called Mythbusters. Recently they tested a number of items for the gas producing powers. And, as we might suspect, they found that the higher carb products seemed to product much higher rates of gas. I haven?t done any scientific studies, but I can certainly observe the same in my own system. It?s sort of a rude wake up call that I need to get back to a right way of eating.

.........Seems like I wrote something else. Maybe it all wasn't recovered, but at least the biggest part made it. Have a good wekend everyone, I have at least a half dozen things to do and just this afternoon to do it. What I'll probably do is sit on my rear and finish a book....... the last of the things that should be done.

Hey everyone?. Chatty group today ? for a Sunday!

So lovely to hear (almost) all your ?voices?

Shelley? I?m so proud!! ?my? room?!?!! Oh! I?m blushing! And don?t be too impressed with my exercising ? I agree with Barb? you have to get to a place where you feel ?right? about starting. I was just at that point where I KNOW that if I don?t exercise I will NOT lose the weight with just low carbing.

I still detest exercising. I think that even though Barb and I come from a common ancestor somewhere off the Mayflower, along the way we ended up on different planets! LoL

I?m still inducting and tomorrow I?ll start another week on Rob?s ?one full week on plan? challenge ? join us there if you want?. So much easier to bite off a week than the forever feeling I get when I restart on plan or an exercise program?

And Barb, you and TB are right ? I need to just make it low carb desserts.

Here?s the issue for me right now ? we have about 7 total weeks left here. I have a pantry full of brownie mixes, chocolate chips, blue berry muffin mixes, jiffy corn bread mixes, a case of Glen Muir tomatoes, case of Annies chili, artichoke hearts, Cascadian Farms organic dill relish, Bob?s red mill soy flour, etc. etc. etc. etc. We also have a freezer full of frozen veggies, a turkey, chicken breasts, and other foods that I HAVE to make and serve in the next 7 weeks or toss. My intention is to work my way through as much of this uh, inventory, as possible... inviting people in for dinner, etc.

So I really just need to buck up and deal with it as I get through the tough spots, like the occasional desserts? <<sigh>>

Alida, Judy, Peg? can I join the BBTLF group? (Bring Back That Loving Feeling!).. on April 10? I?m going to keep up on plan as much as possible until then but would really like to accompany you if I could.

Oh Alida, we won?t know about Armenia until we are back from Istanbul in late May? I keep trying not to think about it so I don?t hope to much for it. (I don?t want to jinx it)

Barb, kinda curious to know how you found out the website censors the word s*cks? Sounds like a good one

Peg, <<<<good warm, soft, beautiful thoughts and energy in your direction>>>>

Ilse, good luck finding a hair cutting place!

Terry, such a nice long post! I love those from you ? so newsy?.the Jean de Luz link was gorgeous ? good grief! Reminded me so much of southern France, actually? (I know, that?s the point)

?k guys, I?m going to bed ? it?s 11:30pm here (we don?t change our clocks here) and I?m beat ? love you all ? and have a great week!

Back again...
While it's on my mind...
Donna, I think the muffins are more oily because of the almond flour and a whole cup of oil. Actually, I think the oil could be decreased to 1/2 cup and the muffins would still be plenty moist due to the almond flour. JMHO. The only other oil I would use in them would possibly be cannola oil; otherwise I'm sticking to O.O.

Teel...a water super-shooter! What a great idea!!!! Yes, I can see where you would dislike the crows...we're not fond of them either. And yes, if the Sharp-shinned hawk would only carnage the stupid ole starlings, I wouldn't mind that either. But alas, our hawk devoured a much loved Mourning Dove...sigh.
Now...I may tell DH about the water super-shooter. In the past, he has used a BB gun to try to scare away the starlings when they try to move in on the martins.

Alida, Judy, Peg, Rachel...me to...me to...me to...me to!!!! I really need to BBTLF!!!!!! I am trying to stick pretty close to induction levels this week, but I am including strawberries and a few nuts. After my trip, I will do strict induction as it's meant to be, but I can't start with you all on the 10th.
So make room for moi on the induction train...wOOt!!!!

Alida, the countertops will go on first, and then the back splash. Well, actually, the electrician will have to visit in between to install new lighting.
Trying to coordinate all this will be like directing traffic..stop...go...stop...go...

OK.....guess I'll go start dinner. Sauteed' herb chicken breast, cauli mash, and green beans, and 4 or 5 lovely fresh strawberries stuffed with some sweetened cream cheese for dessert. Now who could be deprived eating like that???....hehe.

Oh my, how the conversation continues.

About those muffins: I used canola oil, but I subbed pecan meal for almond flour, 'cause that's what I had. My muffins were really light and delicious. I'm not going to mess with success.

Rachel, just use up all those goodies in your pantry, and enjoy it. Life is short. At some point, you'll get back on track, and you'll know what to do. We're having company on Friday, and I'm going to try some kind of sugar-free dessert. Haven't decided what yet.

Winding down after a busy day. Sleep tight, dear ones.

Shelley, Your menu sound really good. (They always do).

How about all of us including a few menus --- when we have a good WOE meal. It might help to get our creativity going. Last night we had bacon wrapped hamburger patties stuffed with swiss cheese, green beans and sauted mushrooms. Right now I have a pork tenderloin thawing. I'm not sure what we will have to go with it.

Barb, I'm especially curious to see what you eat, not just your counts.

And for today.......1349 calories, 18 net carbs, AND a gallon of water.

Hey Shelley, I copied. We had Cauliflower with that pork tenderloin. I'm lazy though. I just remove the leaves, stick the whole head into a dish with a tablespoon or so of water, cover and nuke for ten minutes. When I take it out I smear the head with a liberal coat of Miracle Whip (or mayo) and then top with grated cheese. Sprinkle with paprika and it's ready to eat.

Pork tenderloin is one of my favorite entre-type dishes. Yumms.

Today was a better day foodwise; couldn't get much worse than yesterday! I got lucky today, in that a friend gave me some really fresh halibut and baby vegs from the farmers' market. So dinner was...

Broiled fish
Baby vegs dressed with some browned butter and grated peccorino
Green beans (left overs)
Green salad w/Ceasar dressing
