Judy, I'm so very sorry! So many episodes.....darn. I do hope this time the docs will find some answers that will help you all make the best decisions with your Dad. The "not knowing" part of things is just too stressful. Take care.

Barb, Alida
, I know, I know! It sounds outrageous. Red countertops (ok, dark red) --- NOT a great idea, but like in love, one can't always help what stops the heart. However, again like in love, one can try to resist a permanent relationship. No doubt if the countertops happen, I will end up with something much less exotic. Anyway, this is one of them-- on the right end, third row from the bottom, Coroli Red....
http://www2.dupont.com/Surfaces/en_U...aq_colors.html

Barb
, I have a couple of kitchen walls papered in navy print currently, but haven't noticed any dimenishment of appetite I don't think the color experts understand who they're dealing with here

Shelley, Alida
, I still don't know what Dad was hustling into the house for sure. I suspect he'd been to Marshall Fields--He's quite the clothes horse. Groceries are generally not the occasion for such furtiveness, but I can't imagine why he'd need to hide clothes, either. LOL!

Alida, wonderful that DH had a good night May your etchlike jobs go well and tip the scales for you. AND, not aggravate your hip. I'm sorry to know that you may be a candidate for hip replacement on of these days. I understand some docs are doing it laparoscopically now, but still not something to look forward to, I suspect...

Everyone to come,
_________
I woke up way too early today, but am trying to stay up I have an appoinment with the car dealer in a couple of hours, anyway.

Brenda, that's not TOO red...not like the one at the bottom left. I can see this blending in. Definitely a consideration.

Alida, lack of inter-doc communications is the huge downside of medical practice these days. My brother the doctor has been working for years on developing a software for the purpose, and cultivating investors. It has been a slow and frustrating process.

As for creativity on demand...well, it's more like cleverness on demand. That's what I do, and I have my tricks. My favorite thing I wrote yesterday will be a "funny...but no." But then, I never know for sure what will pass muster with the OK committee, even after all these years.

On Father's Day, you can do
anything you feel like doing?
with the possible exception
of being left peacefully alone.

Cycle class was good this morning. I have to ease up a lot, but I survive. Today I actually made a puddle on the floor under the bike--luckily it was sweat. I came out of the gym into pouring rain--but I was already soaking wet.

Now...off to be clever, if possible.

Hi dear ones - here we are in Istanbul - this is the first moment I've really had to breathe - things going very well with the in-laws - although last night we celebrated DBiL's birthday and DH and they all had the shrimp salad and all three spent the night in loo - I am a fish fan but don't much like shrimp so I was spared... These days are just nuts busy - so much so that I?m just not on the laptop ? way too inconvenient to find the time and place to get on line and spend some serious time on-line.

Judy, I?m so, so sorry about your Dad? man, one crisis at a time is right ? but I wish it didn?t have to be happening to ANY of us ? on any issue? <<<hugs>>>

I have been power-walking EVERY morning ? 3-4 miles (don?t know exactly, no pedometer).. and thank goodness because it?s the only thing keeping me from really packing it on. I?m still getting tight in the pants ? but?..

Although I have not been watching what I eat ? the meals are generally very healthy (lots of fish and meat and salads).. ummmm, but I have been overindulging in the Turkish delight (lokum).. good grief, you?d think the sugar would be killing me.

I feel so remiss in not having the opportunity to read and respond to your many great posts ? please forgive me for a few more days until we are back in Tbilisi and I can get on my machine and I have a few spare hours on occasion to write.

DSiL and DBiL will be with us there until May 15th and frankly, I don?t expect too much free time. It?s not that they are needy or anything ? it?s just an awkward time to be in any way self-indulgent? and you guys are my indulgence!!

Love you all much ? know I am thinking of you?

Hi Gang!

I lost three pounds!! I give thanks to Maggies cereal for that! :bear: Today, I'm up sort of early to drive DH to work. I get the car all day and have a million errands. One of them is to get my annual physical.

On the car front: I asked dh last night what he plans to do and he said he's going to make a decision by Friday. Okay. So, this Sunday we need two cars! Either that, or HE is going to be sitting at his church until I can get back to it after going to mine! I've looked into all the rental situations I am willing to. He has the info. It's his call. (Of course, I can still kvetch)

Judy: Oh, Judy dearest one! I'm so sorry about your ddad. I'm hoping that you may have a diagnosis by now and some peace about the future for him. Know that, despite signs to the contrary, he is in the Lord's hands and can rest comfortably there. I believe, too, that the same is true of you, by the way. (Sorry for the pastoral care. But, there I am.)

Alida: I had a young parishioner (early 50's) who got a new hip laparoscopically. She did remarkably well. She had a hospital bed in her downstairs for a week or so (her bedroom was upstairs), then she was on a walker for maybe a week, then a cane for about 6 weeks, then walking just fine. She danced at her daughter's wedding just a few months later. She was just so glad that she did it. She went from a badly limping woman, to a straight standing, painless, walk. Darlin', if I were in the pain that you are, I would consider it.

Barb: I sighed when you said you were going to take a walk to look for the muse yesterday. I resonate with that SO much. When I am on a Sunday deadline, and it is Saturday afternoon, and the scripture is one that just doesn't seem to have anything relevant to say, I am nearly frantic to come up with interesting entertaining things to say. You have BEEN there with me! ha!

Shelley: I am so envious of your big weather. I wish I were there with you. No offense, but I hate those little bunnies. They ate all my tulips even before they had a chance to bloom! (But, they are cute to look at) Bummer on the plumber not showing up. I JUST hate it when they do that. Hope it happens today.

Rachel: Come back!! We miss you.

Donna: Have fun with those invoices! End of the month stuff. Bleachk! Yesterday I got the billl for the TV guide that I ordered for me. Dh will be mad, so I'm going to tell him that Dd gave it to me for Mother's Day. More than one way around these recalcitrant hubbys

Terry: Whddya think about Shelley's patient and the egret thing?

Well, darlin's I'm off to the Doc for my annual physical. I just LOVE her. Then to run a million errands. See ya later.

Peace, Peg

Thank you Donna! And Happy BD to your son!
Yeppers.....32 yrs ago today, just about this time, actually, we said "I do"! It doesn't seem like THAT long ago...but when you are a *child bride*, well, you know...hehe!

I have good news!!!! The plumber dude just left and I now have a plumbed sink, newly installed disposal and faucet and the dishwasher is re-connected and doing it's thing right now as I speak. WOOHOO!!!! The tile guy called and we are scheduled for next Thursday, the 11th. Wish it could've happened this week, but it's ok...at least I know now, and am not left clueless and in the dark like yesterday!

Bren...that copper-red is awfully pretty...but for my taste, I think a wee bit dark. Do you have fantastic light in your kitchen...lots of windows? I think that would be a key factor for me in deciding on a really vibrant color like that. I love red too! I am most likely going to see how I can work some red into my kitchen. Probably will use it as an accent color. I'm a day late and a dollar short as they say, but I'm thinking of maybe using some rooster pieces as accents. I do love all the vibrant colors they seem to come in. Also found the cutest little valance for the kitchen window with embroidered roosters....we'll see what mood I'm in when the time comes...LOL.

I need to get moving and see if I can get some stuff put back in the kitchen.
I'll try and get back later, but if I don't...
(((hugs to all)))!!!

Oh....sneak peek weigh in this morning...down 2.5 lbs! I may be nearing ketosis...getting waves of the ole headache every now and again, and gorilla breath...LOL....gotta love it!

later, chickadees!

Shelly and Donna, very happy SPECIAL DAYS to you both!!!

Peg, how was the Dr. appt? Love that you've got a good doc.

Shell, yup, it's too dark, really. And if we ever move, I suspect it wouldn't be a selling point, LOL. But can't help lovin' it.

Looks like I'm the last one to get in here, as usual. I know I won't be able to tomorrow...it's invoice day. So here goes.

Yesterday I decided to really be careful with my woe cause I was back up to 158 again. But, we had a ballgame in town last night so I needed something for lunch to last until about 10 pm when we finally get to have dinner. So, I had a sausage and cheese omelet which was huge. Then, when I get home and get ready to leave for the game I find dh has cut up all this pepperoni and cheese to eat in the car. Of course, I couldn't hurt his feelings and not eat it. Also, he had a container of seafood salad for me. The end of the story is that I'm up to 159.5 this morning and if I hit 160....I'll shoot myself, just to put myself out of my misery.

We have the most gorgeous day today. No wind (finally) and soooo warm. I can't wait to get home to get outside. I'll have to make it short though cause tonight is American Idol and Amazing Race.

Judy: Here's hoping that your dad will be fine and happy in his new home really soon. Prayers for both of you.

Shelley: Nothing special planned for tonight? Come on....what kid of flowers did you get?

Peg: Way to go on the 3 pounds. That's so great!!! As far as the TV guide goes...I think it's anything goes when it comes to making up stories for dh's. lol Maybe they should be more attentive and they would know what's going on around them.

Barb: My kitchen is blue and it sure doesn't help me to not eat. With the lights out and only the light from the fridge shining....well, the rest of the room stays dark and I don't see much when my head is stuck in the fridge. I think my kitchen could be black and I'd still eat too much. lol

Brenda: I love the red. It never used to be my colour, but I'm swaying that way now. I was planning on doing my kitchen countertops in a mottled mauve...maybe not now what I'm listening to you guys and thinking about resale. Another person might not like a mauve kitchen. Actually, it's a mauvey red sort of.

Rachel: Good to hear from you, girl. You're doing great on the walking.

Well, better get back to the grind here. Only 2 1/2 more hours to go until I can go home. Sometimes it seems like forever when I'm clock watching.

Hi, I've just a minute before I need to tottle off to bed.

Judy, sigh... I'm sorry.

Mike the Contractor is rebuliding my rose arbor/pergola this week. He's such a funny guy - totally cracks me up some times. Should be done tomorrow, so we can finally put the bench swing back up. I'd say just in time for summer, but it turned cold again this afternoon. It was 85 yesterday - almost hot. This morning was warm and sunny; but a chill wind blew in to the bay area. Highs tomorrow in the 50s to low 60s.

Shelley, I looked at the water scarecrow both online and at OSH (Orchard Supply Hardware). I thought it would be the solution. It's a great concept for larger yards; but my yard is too small. The guy at OSH said I'd likely get squirted everytime I went outside. And, it would scare the birds away from the feeders. I need a name for the egret decoy. Want to help me name him?

I quite like the Prestige 50 film, although it looks a just ~slightly~ cloudy when the sun is directly on it. It doesn't bother me, but when the sun is shinning on it, you can see a few long "strings"... kind of like a very long strand of hair glinting in the light.

I noticed the difference in the heat and glare reduction even before they finished putting up all of the film. It's that good.

Although they were nice guys, I had a couple slight beefs with the film installers (3 guys for 2 windows). One youngster quite obviously scratched the film with his squeegee - I saw it happen. He was going to let it go, but I pointed it out and asked him to please replace it. The foreman took over and replaced it for him. Later, the foreman was saying they could not put back the window grids (mullins?) because the film was too new - I'd have to do it myself 48 hours later. I stayed calm and sweet... said, 'Oh, Dear! The woman in the office told me that you could handle window grids'. His reply was that the office people didn't know this stuff. I just said 'that was very disappointing', and left it at that. To his credit, he did make sure all the grids were back in place before he left. If he hadn't, I'd have been burning the phone lines with complaints to the office and the Calif. distributor. There is a vertical streak in the center of the kitchen window, but I'm hoping it's just a smudge. It's in a hard to reach place, so I haven't climbed back there to try to rub it out yet.

Brenda, on my laptop monitor the Coroli Red looked looked chocolate brown - I'm sure it can't be that dark in real life! My monitor must be in worse shape than I thought. The display on this computer has gotten darker over the years, I've got it at it's lightest settings already.

Peg, good luck with your car. You must be feeling kind of trapped. Can you walk to any shops? A drug store or market?

Donna, it sounds like you have the weather we are all panting for around here. I hear your pain on the weight creep - I'm trying to find my way back down after last weekend, but I'm still being too indulgent with myself. Have you reconsidered the vegetable issue? I'm not sure your salads are filling you up enough.

Rachel, that's a shame about everyone getting sick from the dinner. They say not to eat seafood in months without an 'R'. (Just kidding.. I've eaten seafood year round my whole life and only got sick once - it happens!). I hope they've all recovered and are back to feeling good.

Everyone, I have more to say, but it's after eleven and I need to get going early tomorrow. BFN!

Tweet tweet! Earlybird here. Alida? I can hear you!

Bren, about that countertop...I stopped by my sister's new house yesterday, and noticed that her kitchen counters (granite) are just about the color of that Coreli red. I thought they looked beautiful. Her kitchen has dark-ish cabinets, and I was there in the evening, when there wasn't a lot of light coming through her east-facing windows. It might have felt too dark to some people, but the overall effect was...serene.

Peg, congrats on dropping some lbs. That always feels good. Hope the car negotiations go your way. A gal's gotta have wheels!! (Speaking as a two-person family with three cars--three people and four cars, if you count the resident Grandson.) For many years, when DH and I worked in the same office, we only had one car. When DH retired, I took the bus, and then bought a Vespa. Fun, but not all that practical in a KC winter. We'd been married a long time before I finally got a car of my own. What was I thinking??

Time to go. I'll be in the non-convertible today, as more rain is predicted. When full summer arrives, I'm devoted to the Miata.

Good morning!

Terry: Do NOT try to rub anything out on your film! Leave your mitts off for thirty days. Maybe it's a little soap on the room side of the film, but it could also be a little adhesive smudge on the inside (backside) of the film. Just leave it alone and it should dry clear. Yup. I've scratch film with my squeegee. Good for them for replacing it. THREE guys? Well, it was probably that day's crew and they were going to or coming from a larger job. Hmm. I always replace the mutins, if I have removed them. If the customer removes mutins or screens, I let the customer replace them. As for the film looking slightly cloudy when the sun shines on it ? I have never seen this film but I know the NV line has a different "look" when the sun shines on it. It's the film WORKING. BTW, 3M finally announced the Prestige series. The web site is: http://www.3m.com/prestigeseries . I called my old distributor again BEGGING to get the line for Firehouse. We shall see. There will only be two Prestige dealers in KC. This whole Prestige marketing idea by 3M is CRAP. In a way, I could make a case that they are infringing on our right to expand our business by just offering the film to a few select dealers. ~End of Rant~

Judy, (((HUGS))) Have you heard anything about your Dad's condition?

Peg, WooHoo on the three pounds! Maybe this will give you a little (OK, a lot) encouragement.

Thank you for the happy hip replacement story. I have heard the procedure is not that bad now. Maybe in the fall -- especially if I have my same insurance!

Re: car. Have you considered buying a used car? Or approaching a car dealer about a short-term lease?

Brenda, THAT red is pretty cool! Sorta a brownish (copper) red. I agree with the person who questioned the amount of light coming into your kitchen. I'll bet that color just sucks up the light. Same thing with the Terracotta I will eventually paint my kitchen. Light Sucker.

Maybe your Dad bought you a GIFT? Is there a birthday or anniversary coming up? OR -- could he have bought something that you have asked him NOT to have in your house? God knows what that could be, but just asking. I love a mystery!

Shelley, I missed your Anniversary! Happy Happy! Did you do anything special or are you waiting for this weekend?

Good news on the plumber (finally)! New sink, new faucet, and a working dishwasher. Who could ask for more, eh? Well, OK. Back splash. Just think. Weekend after this one, you will have a FABULOUS kitchen! Did you ever decide on new under counter lights?

Another WooHoo on being down 2.5 pounds! Going great, my friend!

Barb, Funny...but no? Is that your description of what you wrote, or is it an actual "category" Hallmark has for its cards?

Left a puddle under the bike?

Donna, Catch your breath. That 159.5 is just a BLIP from too much cheese or the salt in the pepperoni. Eat clean today and it will be GONE!

Rachel! So good to hear from you! Glad the trip is going well. Don't worry too much about not posting. We'll all catch up after May 15th! Have a wonderful time with your in-laws (and DH, too)!

-----------

Down a half pound this morning! Thinking about it, I never really had a good WHOOSH. Well, I did have a 2.5 whoosh on Monday morning, but that was water weight. Can't say I've ever had a FAT whoosh. Yesterday I was back in ketosis, so fingers crossed I can actually lose about 5 pounds during induction.

The job yesterday was a real PITA and PITH (hip). I had to climb in and out of a HIGH whirlpool tub over 50 times (I counted). No steps to the tub. And I have no idea how anyone would be able to clean the thing. You would have to be in it to clean it. So I had a step stool outside the tub and a step stool inside the tub. But it's over and it's gorgeous. It was hard getting a good picture. If I did get one, I'll post it later. Today is another tough etch job. BIG window (44 x 96) behind a baluster in a stairwell. Little Giant ladder. Up and down ladder. PITA. At least on this job I charged enough and should earn $$$.

This morning: 144.5
Yesterday:
Calories: 1241
Carbs: 21.8
Protein: 103 (Yikes)
Fat: 78.5

Have a great day! XXOO

Total fly-by!

-Still in Dallas/Plano
-DDad still in hospial
-Guesses and speculations on what caused the spells -- no real diagnosis
-He's really starting to "drift" at times. Yesterday he thought he was walking on the ceiling tiles. Sometimes he's fine and then in a lull he's in another land.
-SIL and I checked out homes yesterday. I think we have one selected
-He'll probably be released from the hospital tomorrow -- must stay 3 midnights to be released to a SNF/Rehad for insurance purposes.
-So much to do to close everything and move him. I'll probably go home sometime this wekend.

Hi Gang!

Woke up to sun this morning! We've had steady rain for three days. With the rain my mood and energy goes down. However, yesterday I had the car all day and ran errands from 9:00 a.m. to when I picked up dh at 5:00! Whew! More about that in a minute....

Alida: That etch job is absolutely gorgeous! Wow! How I wish you were closer so I could hire you to do that on something here. Of course, I don't have any elegant windows like pictured. What an artist you are, my friend.

Thanks for the encouraging words. Yesterday was a bit of a "lost" day lc-wise. I didn't go too crazy, but didn't get in near enough water. When you're running, there are not enough bathrooms. Yaknow??

Shelley: Happy Anniversary to you!! You are to be congratulated for hanging in there for all these years. Want to share the secret?

Woohoo on the countertops and a working sink and dishwasher. So sorry you have to wait another whole darn week to get your backsplash. Pichaas!

Judy: Wondering where you are and how is ddad yesterday and today? How are you?

Rachel: Waiting to hear of your adventures. It seems as though Armenia is in the news a lot lately. Can't remember exactly when or for what, but maybe my eyes are more attuned to it now that I know you are going to be there! (Maybe)

Bren: I kind of go along with the others about the red countertop. I LOVE red, as you may remember from my living room and kitchen. I have used it as an accent color, and have had lots of fun with cabinet knobs, dishes (remember that hassle?), pillows, valance over my drapes, and of course, my red chair. I hope that I can always have these colors. I really love them. I have creamy yellow walls with white high gloss woodwork. My kitchen cabinets are maple and a light wood color. My counter is laminate, textured, and muted sand colors, with the edges routed. Let me see if I can post a pic. I have it on this computer: Just spent about 10 minutes trying to resize the d*mn picture. Seems that my learning curve on this resizing thing goes out the window if I am more than a few months away from it! Dang it.

I hope that this day is a good one for you. I dying to know what ddad bought!

Barb: Sounds as though you are doing really well with your lc eating and exercise. I downloaded a series of pictures and directions on how to have flatter abs using pilates moves. I'm going to try it if I can get myself down on the floor!

Donna: How's the invoice posting going? I hate the first of the month, and I'm not even working! But, the bills do go on, don't they? I had some fraudulent activity on my American Express card during our trip. I've disputed it and closed the card. They are still investigating to see if I was telling the truth! Harumph! The charges were in a State that we didn't visit. They say that the "card was used the the charges." Ummm, I beg your pardon, I HAVE the card!! It couldn't have been used. I'm like you.....kind of bulldog until I get it straightened out.

Terry: It sounds as if you have a perfect solution for the sun with your new 3M film. Sorry that the installers gave you a hassle. Don't you hate it when you have to stand over them and make sure that they are doing it right??

Sorry that the scarecrow won't work for you. It sounded like such a good idea. Though, it sounds as if you are going to have an even more beautiful backyard than I saw, when you are finished. Now that the sun is out my flox in the front are just so bravely putting out their purple blossoms. It looks like a purple carpet on my front planter. (I call it my garden, but it really is only about four feet by 10 feet in front of the condo). I plant flowers to brighten up the space. But, it's still a little early. I know we won't have another snow, but we have had freezing temps the last week once or twice.

I bought cushions for my white rattan chairs at Pier One yesterday. I'm going to put them on the deck. I had bought them for my office when I thought of opening a private practice here. They served Deuteronomy well, so are FULL of cat hair (the pillows). We had had "patio" chairs out there the last several years, but the cushions are faded and dirty. I'm going to try my best to get one of the cushions clean and will put a chair with that cushion on the downstairs patio. It is small and serves as access to the lake. Dh sits out there, though, in the summer, when he reads. It's quite close to his office. Neither the rattan chairs or the cushions I bought yesterday are waterproof, so I am going to have to be careful to bring them in when it rains. But, they will LOOK beautiful for the "staging."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I also bought a cusion for an old maple kitchen chair which I will put in front of my sewing machine table in my office. Then, it will look like a bigger room than it is, with the chairs out. I also get the standing lamp that is in here to put next to my recliner downstairs, which is a big bonus for me.

I have had an outfit like California Closets build my entire office and sewing area. They even sunk a place for my sewing machine and built cabinets for my fabric and craft supplies. On the other side of the room is a built in computer desk and bookshelves. All of it is white laminate. It is quite stunning, I think. However, the woodwork is dark pink (leftover from the previous owners who used this room as a nursery), and needs to be painted to match the rest of the house.

okay, I know I am chatty, but I have to tell you this story: I've been watching the ads for Mother's Day and saw that Verizon is having a sale on the very phone that I bought two weeks ago, but in PINK! So, I went in there yesterday and said: "Look, I bought this phone two weeks ago and you told me you didn't have pink. Now I see that you have a Mother's Day sale on them and I want one. I am a Mother." Well, they not only exchanged it, downloaded all my contacts onto my new phone, and did it with a smile, but they refunded all the extra money I paid for the old phone! How about that for service?? I now have a neat little Motorola PINK phone with a PINK bluetooth headset!!

Annual physical was fine yesterday. I shall live to fight another day!

Peace, Peg
