| Shell, I really like 'em. Great shape for your face, and stylish without being overdone! Great look on you. Maybe I'll snap a pic-cha tomorrow, if I can stand it. I need to get my camera out anyway, because I've promised myself I HAVE to get a picture of Khaki doing her "greeeting" smile. Judy, an amazing production line! Wow! I had no idea how those things were done. Hope you enjoy the Lincoln nightlife....or is that an oxymoron Peg, had no idea you had a Nebraska connection. Neat! No more staging? Oh, what a blessing! Whew!

| Early-morning fly-by. I'm on my way to help out with late registration at the Hospital Hill Run at 5 a.m., and then...I'm running the race. Or something close to it. By the luck of the technology, my bib number is 2006. Isn't that fun? I got assigned the actual year--my 60th birthday year--for the greatest KC road race. I think that portends a good day. (Little Mary Sunshine speaking again.) I'll be back later with a report. Shelley, the glasses are very becoming--shape, color, everything. Best of all, they don't obscure an eyelash of those dazzling eyes of yours. Alida, although I missed the specific reference in the posts, I gather your DH has had a heart issue, and I'm so sorry. Hang in there, as you always do, with good sense and spirit. Now, I gotta run. Literally. |

| Good Saturday Morning! Barb, welcome back! Glorious photos! The bride wore red :gorgeous: and looks fabulous! And you? Those halter tops were a good choice with your beautiful shoulders and arms. I loved the vintage dress. Wasn't that a "gift" from a friend's closet? The picture of you and your DH is definitely a framer. Curious about Murphy tagging along. Can't wait to hear what went wrong! As for Bob, his stress test came back as showing he had a heart attack at some point ? and didn't know it! This was a report from the test technician. He will see his doctor next week and find out more. Peg, you mentioned how much your real estate agent "will charge you." What do you mean? I thought agents worked on commission. Or did you mean how much he thinks you can get for your condo? Good news on the no-more-staging. Did you ever change the pink woodwork in your office? What a wonderful memory of your grandmother! And good news about no BP medicine. That's really great! But there's that dreaded exercise. I envision you tackling that issue with leaden feet in the beginning, but growing to love it. Then, your success with walking will encourage me to get off my damn duff. Judy, let's see if I can do the math! 55,000 tests. 180 people. At first glance, I thought only 305.5 tests per person. BUT, there are three questions on each test. So, does that mean you will grade around 916.6 tests???? I will not be surprised if I flunk. I majored in English just to avoid all math. Brenda, about your dad's "gift" costing you! The way I figure it, if renting a trailer costs around $20, you need to use it 10-12 times to break even! That's a heck of a lot of mulch.Wow. You are still in a cleaning mode, huh? Grout? Toothbrush? ACK!!! Thank you for the Lilac link. That Miss Kim bush looks lovely! We have the whole south side of the house to landscape. That's about 46 feet!!! Right now, all we have is a bare space. At least it is edged and filled with pea gravel. But no plants yet. I tend to like evergreens so there's something there during the winter. But then I love the Spring flowers! Have to come up with a good mix. Maybe when the times comes, I'll post a picture and get some advice from you and Donna?and anyone else who wants to put in their 2 cents. Shelley, woohoo! Those glasses look wonderful on you! I especially like the frame-less bottom part of the frame. They really let the beauty of your eyes shine through! Thank you for suggesting possible further tests for Bob. He hasn't seen his doctor yet. As mentioned earlier, this was just a phone call from the stress test nurse or technician. I'll keep you posted! Terry, what's happening at your house? Donna, Quote:
Just want you wanted to do, huh? We had slugs up the kazoo at our big house. I remember someone telling me to put out little containers of beer. They crawl in to the containers and DIE. Yuck. I had to have son Paul gather those containers and throw them out.Have a wonderful time with the dance and the ballgames! With your red toes and red top, you will be HOT! Good news on losing that water weight. If I recall your new sig, you only have about 5 pounds to go. That should be a snap -- but then, we all know how hard those last few pounds are! Donna, I really admire you for tackling the issue before it got to +10 or +20. That's the way good old Dr. A said to handle LCE. Never let yourself get above +5. Sigh. I failed. Rachel, yoohoo! How's Spain? ------------- Yesterday at work, I got a glimpse at the software they use for their business. Yikes! It's called CLIP. Basically designed for a lawn service, where you have customers that have a repeat service on some sort of schedule. It makes up route sheets, does (crummy) invoices, keeps track of paids and not paids, etc. etc. Very complicated and NOT user friendly. I have to get my mind around the reason for everything. For instance, it uses something called "patterns." Pattern 1 might be "washing outside windows." Pattern 2 would be "washing inside and outside windows." There are a gazillion patterns. FUN? This will be a true test of my intelligence! SIGH. I have to help Randy out with a small job today. He really doesn't need my help, but it's his son's birthday and my helping him will get him home sooner so he can attend son's T-Ball game. Oh well. I just have to wrap my mind around the fact that it means more hours. I do have the option of coming in later on Monday. Have a great weekend! XXOO

| Barb, a lucky number indeed Alida, a job today? Rats! You're a good person for helping Randy out, though. Too bad their software isn't user friendly, but I'll bet you'll do fine once you've had a little time to get it under your belt. I hate new software in general, and business applications always seems ill-written in general, but you're pretty dang smart, Alida. Quote:
This is day 3 of the interminable shed project. I'm hoping I will be left out of the fun. I've finished my third Augusten Burroughs book--all three through this week. Omigosh. Can't begin to describe his writing.

| Donna, your weekend sounds like fun and you deserve to live it up with your friends after the stressful week you just went through! I hope it's a grand time. Lilacs... sigh... we don't have lilacs in CA - generally, they don't do well here for some reason. Maybe they need a winter chill like bleeding hearts and lily of the valley? People that've moved here from the midwest get very nostalgic for lilacs. Alida, I've never tried the beer thing for slugs. So it really works? I've some beer that's been in the refrig probably since Xmas, if not before. I would have guessed that slugs couldn't survive freezing winters. I thought they were a mild climate pest. Another thing for slugs that I've been meaning to try for slug control is copper. Supposedly; they won't cross a strip of copper. Maybe that's a use for all the pennies that accumulate? Barb, I have MAJOR shoulder envy after seeing your pictures. Gorgeous! The halter top is is a wonderful style for you. You and DH are really stylin' in your vintage duds! It looks like it was a really great party. Good luck with your run today. Shelley, the glasses are fine - nothing could obscure those beautiful eyes, anyway! Hot pink little piggies? Sounds pretty fun for summer. I'm still leery of seeking out a professional pedi (too much bad news in the local press). So I did my own toes in that breast cancer awareness pink shade. It's not very noticiable, but I mainly did it to cover up a black bruise in my big toenail (unsightly in sandals). BTW... sometime, tell me how thos color minerals are different from regular makeup. Are they easier to use than other foundations? The brunch was nice... there were 8 of us. For appetizers, I served cherry tomatoes and blueberries with various cheeses and flat breads and a bowl of jumbo olives. Then we had a tender, boneless ham, green beans with browned butter and mizithra cheese, caulimash and a spinach salad with strawberries. Dessert was SF lemon pudding made with low fat, homemade kefir and garnished with strawberries - very pretty. I figured I could get away with such a spare dessert as the dinner was so rich and two of the guests were diabetic. I put out some Pepperridge farm cookies for those that wanted something with real sugar. I'd (wickeldy) invited two very locquacious women hoping they'd cancel each other out. My DSis found me in the kitchen at one point and whispered, "It worked!", lol. While I enjoy talkative people, being more the listening type, these two take it too far. It's annoying, but they have many admirable qualities and I do not want to drop either one. BTW, for those of you with greater people skilles than mine, I'm VERY open for suggestions on polite ways to deal with garrulous talkers. Brenda, I never had much luck with various grout sealers, fwiw. When I was working like crazy on the wide, white grout in my kitchen counter, I discovered that an aerosol called Grout Magic (Bed, Bath, and Beyond), used with a battery operated electric tooth brush was the most effective combo. The toothbrushes can be found at any drugstore or large grocery and run from $7 to $12. At my old house, where the grout was dark and subject to efflorenscence (white salts that precipitate out of the grout), I discovered that simply "painting" the grout with mineral oil made the white rime disappear. We went to a home improvement expo last fall and several booths featured a grout resurfacing service - perhaps that's an option for your entry? It was a few hundred dollars. I was tempted, but the home scrub worked well enough for now. Gosh, Judy - that's a freakin' lot of tests to evaluate! I hope they provide a lot of breaks and outings for you all. Is there an air-conditioned gym where you can work out a bit to relieve some of the stress and tedium? Or, perhaps a local Curves? Is your Curves membership honored by other Curves franchises? Peg, well done on the major grocery shopping! I always feel a sense of satisfaction once the groceries are finally stowed. What's on the menu for next week? It's pretty cool that Bob does so much of the cooking, IMO. DH is afraid to cook. He's sometimes okay with making a side salad and he does the dishes most nights. But, not the pots and pans, alas. My realtor suggested I not do much staging either, other than cleaning the closets and removing some excess bric-a-brac. But I did not believe her. I do think my painting, re-landscaping, and ~extreme~ de-cluttering made quite a difference in the attracting multiple offers. Especially since our showing time was Mother's Day week and it was raining crazy heavy the whole time. There weren't as many lookers out that weekend. But, as I recall, you and your BF did a pretty major redecorating last year (CRS... year before?); so your home is probably leagues ahead of where mine was last year. I'm looking forward to Rachel's reports from Spain. Such a fascinating country with it's blend of european and mid-eastern cultures. Write when you can, Rachel - we want to know how your friends are doing, and all about everything you see and do.

| Mission accomplished! The flying downhill finish of Hospital Hill is great, and I came in at 1:25--about five minutes better than my 90 minute target. See photo evidence. Everybody gets a medal. And yes, I do keep the bibs as a record of my "track star" career. Judging from the times I saw posted, I'd have a chance for a prize in my new age group next year (60-65) if I train hard. Peg, wanna hire an online coach and cheerleader for that exercise program you're aiming for? Tap into my enthusiasm free of charge. For the rest of the afternoon, I'm going to fiddle around with this computer and learn how to burn a photo CD. Now that I've got the digital camera, I might as well learn how to use all the features of iPhoto, etc. The major Murphy experiences of the trip involved the car. I should have listened to that little inner voice telling me to turn in the rental immediately upon arrival in DC, where NO ONE needs a car. The car cost $22/day to park at the hotel. I somehow LOST the keys (I think they got gathered up by housekeeping with laundry or trash, but it's a mystery) so, $88 for AVIS road assistance. Finally, it's really, really hard to find a gas station in DC. During our plane change in Chicago/Midway, they had to call in an army of security people, including a dog. Turns out some air marshall traveling on the incoming flight lost an ammo clip, which was subsequently discovered in the seat by a boarding passenger. And didn't that cause an uproar!! So much for our safety in the sky. Grout? Lilacs? Invoices? 55,000 tests to grade??? Oh, my. There's just too much hard work going on out there. But I must say, Teel, I wish I'd been at that brunch. The menu sounds fabulous, and I think your strategy with the guests was perfect--thoughtful of the diabetics, cagey with the Chatty Cathies. During vacation (there's always time to sit around) I finished a great thriller by John Lescroart called The Hunt Club. Oodles of suspects and misdirections, and a cliffhanger ending. Well, this is all about me. Thanks for listening. Of course, I'll be back. |

| Hi guys, I'm once again vying for the Crown of Slugdom...sigh. A very lazy day for me. I had really intended to get up at 0530 this morning and walk while it was halfway cool, but I couldn't seem to get my eyes open. The next thing I knew, it was almost 0700 and I had to fly to get my shower and hair done and a bite of breakfast before going to my nail appt. By the time I got back home and did a few things, I noticed it was already 88 degrees...ack! I will walk in the morning for sure! I really hate it when I can't get my walk in before the pavement gets so hot. Barb...how was the temperatures for your run? Bet you *sweated the big one*, eh, girl? Congrats on your great finish time! I'm totally jealous Bren...how goes the shed project? Another thankless task for sure! Hope your dreaded project is nearing the finish line. And boy do I want to see a pic of your little Miss Kahki giving us a smile! Post one soon, OK? Alida...hope you are home by now with your feet up...having a glass of wine even...LOL. I haven't worked a Saturday in so long...just the thought gives me a headache Peg...what up with you today, girlfriend? Writing a new sermon or re-cycling? Hope you are having a good day and good weather! Teel...on the mineral makeup...I will NEVER go back to regular foundation or powder. My friend who is an aesthetician in Denver got me started on the minerals last fall. I use the colorescience line. They are so much easier to work with, give a more natural look(IMO), and the ones I use have an spf of 20. Since I usually put makeup on at 0400 in the morning, I need something that stays all day, which it does. So light and natural feeling with good coverage. I still use a clinique compact to lightly put powder under my lower lashline so any flakes of mascara won't smudge, and I do still use clinique mascara and eyeshadow, but other than that, I'm a *minerals girl* www.colorescience.com Hey to the travelers...Judy and Rach! You are missed! Hey to Donna...hope you are having a great time this weekend! Alrighty...I picked up a rotisserie(sp?) chicken at Albertson's a while ago, so dinner will be a no brainer...LOL. I have TOTALLY been a slug today...I am ashamed of myself. Really! I will do better tomorrow. Yep...that's my story and I'm stickin' to it! later chickadees! Shell

| We finished the first 8 hour day of grading. It wasn't awful, but like summer school, I think there is a point (Wednesday, I heard) where you just hit he wall and have to get over the hump to finish. I found an incredible number of papers that received a 0 out of possible 8. Either there were lots of kids that did not pay attention in class or lots of teachers that do not know what they should be teaching. Someone figured out the ratio of papers each of us should grade for the question that I am doing. It averages out to 2500 each. I'm afraid that I was below my expected range especially early in the day. I did have to bring some ear plugs because it was easy to get distracted. I need to get up and clean up. Dinner is only until 7:00 and I took a big walk immediately after grading. Today I went to see Memorial Stadium. I believe it is the biggest football stadium that I have ever seen. They are serious about the sport -- and rightly so. They have won 5 National championships. Last night a friend and I walked downtown. After sitting all day, I needed both treks. Since they have gone to lots of expense to fly everyone into Lincoln, we will work all day tomorrow, too. To be honest, I have to think what day of the week it is. I have barely seen the headlines on a Newspaper and have seen no television in the last three days. I'm totally out of touch with anything happening in the world. I'm leaving it up to you guys to hold things together.

| Lots of earlybirds today--deliberately or not. I was up early, too, but I'm leading the Sunday school class this morning (the grown-ups) and had to put in some study time. Thank God for the internet. Today is Pentecost, a significant celebration for Christians (the "birthday" of the church), with a significant connection to our Jewish heritage (the delivery of the Law at Mount Sinai). Best wishes, Preacher Peg. Outside, I hear a little rain shower this morning. Hope it will continue through the day. At race start yesterday (7 am) it was in the mid-60s, so I wasn't troubled by heat during the run. I'm hurting today though--mainly sore ankles, especially the left. I think I need new shoes, but also I ran most of the course on the right side of the street, keeping out of the way of the fast runners coming up behind. The slant of the pavement affected my left ankle more. On the whole I feel pretty good. And frankly, I can hardly wait to start induction tomorrow. In spite of my effort yesterday, I feel like a slug, a highly bloated, overstuffed slug. Alida, can you encourage your new employer to invest in better software for his new business? He is lucky to have you. Judy, you must be dizzy with grading. Those essays can't be very rewarding to read. I guess you have some objective criteria to check off, but still, there's bound to be a lot of critical attention involved, and that's a huge energy drain. Can you swim at the hotel? A splash in a pool could be refreshing, vodka tonic on the side. ![]() Bren, hope you managed to drop off to dreamland. Shelley, see ya later! to everyone. |

| Not to fear -- Alida's here! I did get a few extra Zzzz's this morning! The job yesterday morning was easy. I just forgot about their little yappy dog. This dog, named Shoo Shoo, should be shot. (Sorry, Bren -- just kidding). They were an old customer that wanted more windows tinted. Their dog yapped the whole frickin' time we were there. When I was there last year, I wondered why they always held the dog on their lap. Now I know. Shoo Shoo got loose and bit Randy on both legs before they caught it. Drew blood. What could Randy say? "Yes, I'm all right." They went out and bought some Krispy Kremes as a "peace offering." I did not eat one! Barb, good photo! You do not even look hot or exhausted! I see a new challenge on the horizon -- next year's Hospital Run! How many miles is it? I just cannot envision running for an hour and a half. You truly get the Gold Star! Yeah, those hotels really do charge exorbitant fees for parking. Lost keys? No gas stations? Hassle!! And one wonders how on earth an Air Marshall would lose an ammo clip! I mean, are these loose in his pocket??? The Hunt Club is now on my library list. And how did the iPhoto learning curve go? Brenda, LOL. You're going back to bed at the time I get up! Any reason why you could not sleep? Or just a blip? Augusten Burroughs? Mysteries? Clue me in! How goes the shed project? Have you started painting it yet? If I recall, that's your job. Hmm. Maybe it will rain. Then, of course, you will have to wait for the wood to dry out! Terry, I should have listened to your advice about those curly hoses! After my job yesterday, I went to Ace and bought one. Quickly realized one has to be very careful not to "cross over" the hose. Yup. PITA. But my idea of getting a smaller, lighter weight hose to attach to the big heavy one was good. So I'm batting 50%. Your Brunch sounded lovely! Quote:
I remember when you were doing all that staging prior to selling your other home. I think I was new to the thread and didn't even know what staging was! I especially remember the rainy Mother's Day weekend! I, too, am fascinated by Shelley's mineral makeup! Thanks for the link, Shel. Grout? Thank God that's one problem I don't have to deal with. The grout on my entry floor must have been sealed. Looks good to me! Although now that I think of it, my kitchen back splash tile could use a go-around with the Tile Magic. Shelley, I finally took the time to go to that mineral makeup site. That site takes an inordinate amount of time to "load" on dial up! There is a "spa" in my area that carries the line. I am hoping I can just walk in some time and test the foundation to see if I like it -- without going through a big sales pitch. For basic skin care though, I still like Paula's Choice. Although ? I did get a brochure in the mail with samples of a product line made in Japan called DHC. The basis for this line is Olive Oil. I just researched the line on Paula's web site. I think I'll take a pass on it! But it's fun to try different samples. So you had a Slug Day yesterday? Good for you! Although, I see by your early post this AM that you got out and walked. Double good for you! Judy, I am still confused at the math involved in figuring out how many papers you have to grade. Yikes. 2,500? I can see Wednesday as not only hump day but panic day as well, if you find you have more papers than time left! You mentioned dinner until 7. Are you in a dorm-type environment, with meals taken in the cafeteria? When you get home, I can definitely see you vying for the Slug crown! Peg, another sermon from the files? Or did you birth a new one for today? Donna: Hope you are having fun with the ballgames and the dance! Rachel, I, too, am looking forward to your Reports from Spain! For some reason, Spain is one country I never visited while I lived in Rome. Hit just about everywhere else, including the Middle East. Deep down, I think it's because I hated Spanish class in both high school and college. Some of that had to do with my hearing. ---------- Got up this AM and headed outside to get the sprinklers going, but it was raining! Yea!!!!! Remember the discussion we had about bird feeders? I think I mentioned the hassle of seeds dropping and then taking root? Sigh. I don't even take my own advice! About a month ago I put a bird feeder on a branch outside our kitchen window. This is at the front of the house. I had millet or whatever growing out the kazoo. So yesterday I spent about an hour or so digging out the seed growth. That stuff takes DEEP roots. Sorta reminded me of those alfalfa sprouts one gets on sandwiches. Now we need another bag of pea gravel. I may be digging this stuff out for the rest of the summer! But most of the day was a Slug Day. I got a huge jigsaw puzzle and spent hours "working" on that. Today is laundry day, though. And that also means ironing. XXOO

| A quick note dashed off in my office before I go into the service. Alida: Pentecost is 60 days after the Resurrection. It is the day in Acts (of the Apostles) [in the Bible] when the Holy Spirit poured Itself out on the gathered worshippers and they spoke in different languages, but understood each other. It is considered the "birthday of the church" because it is when the gathered folks understood that there is Power in their gathering. The same is true today. We pray for the Spirit to pour Itself (I say, "Herself" since the other members of the Trinity are so easily understood as Male) out on the gathered community of faith every year, just as She did so many thousands of years ago at Pentecost. I have many irreverent asides that I could make about that, but will save them for later. Now, I gotta go! Peace, Peg (Well, I forgot to click on "Submit Reply") Now it's 2:00 pm and I'm goin' home!
