Morning everyone,

Alida, enjoy those new clothes! Isn't it great? And enjoy being paid for your driving for a change.

Barb, you're doing everything right, so I'd say if anyone can overcome any genetic issues, you will. Plus, you're having fun in the process, and that counts, too.

Peg, Judy, TB, Donna, Shell, what's up today?

More blahs yesterday, but made a tiny start on the stairs. They weren't intended to be carpetless, so this project will involve a lot of sanding, wood filling, applying oak veneer to the risers, staining, and finishing off with the runners that have just arrived. DH will be too busy this week to do much, and he has to do his bit first. Sure nice to see a start, however.

And now that the rain has stopped I have no good excuse (but a lot of great sounding bad ones) for not painting the shed. Now, just where did all that energy go, LOL!

Meanwhile, the furgirls seem to have the right idea. Get up, play a little, have breakfast, morning constitutional, following by a beauty nap until something interesting comes along.

Good morning ladies. Gee, I missed you all this weekend. So much happened and I couldn't get my hands on a computer so I could tell my friends what was going on.

First of all we did go to Washington. Late, but we got there. My inlaws were to drive to our house and they were over an hour late. Sheesh...they were looking at pictures with neighbours. Let's get our priorities straight! So, it was late when we got to the border and just our luck we got the surliest idiot as a border crossing guard. We could tell he was just looking for an arguement. He was a lot younger than me and I just wanted to put him across my knee and smack him!! What did he do....he took all our dog food and threw it in the garbage. He said there might be chance there was vitamin B 23 in the dry food and it could cause mad cow disease. What a fool! The border was opened back up to Canadian cattle over 6 months ago. I was just glad to get out of there before he decided that my inlaws were too old and threw them away. lol

We parked in the WalMart parking lot along with about 50 other motorhomes and went to bed. It was after 11 p.m. by the time we got there. I was so mad when I got up in the morning and found out the store was open 24 hours!! What a waste...sleeping away my shopping time. And try to get my inlaws up in the morning!! They always say they are early risers, but I don't think 10:30 is that early!! We did our WalMart shopping and then headed to Payless Shoes only to find it's been moved and we couldn't find it. So on to my favorite grocery store, only to find they didn't carry lc yogurt anymore. I'm really batting 1,000 here. On to the scrapbook store and found they didn't really have anything new nor did they carry the stamp I was looking for. By this time, it was almost 3 p.m. and dh was biting at the bit to get gambling. So much for my shopping. I did get an orange pair of capris with a cute white top with beading on it, and two more tops besides that. Loaded up on lc ketchup, spreadable butter and lots of cheese. So, we went to the casino. Turned out to be very profitable. Dh won $3750.00 playing keno!! Of course, he lost $1175 in taxes, but we can get that back. It took them over an hour to pay him out due to some machine malfunction, so they gave us free tickets to the Sunday morning brunch. Well....when I saw that food.....the idea of eating lc was the most stupid thing I had every heard. It started out with champagne and orange juice. The buffet had on it....king crab legs, twice sauted prawns, salmon, eggs benedict, fried catfish, peel and eat shrimp, bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, fresh buns, creole, and my favorites cheese blitzes. I have no idea what is in them...but I ate 3 of them! My father in law looked at them and asked if they were on my diet and I just growled at him...who cares! lol I know a lot of the stuff is lc, but not the amount that I ate. Even dh said he'd not seen me eat that much in a long time. Ok, now the guilt hit. But, this morning when I weighed, I was still the same as I was when I weighed on Friday....whew! So, it was a good trip, lots of driving. My inlaws had a good time, which is important cause we just don't know how much time we will be able to enjoy their company.

Dd phoned this morning. She's not liking this not having me to talk to. So, I let her have it again, and then told her I couldn't trust her. She lies constantly. She apologized again and I told her we could take it slowly but that I wouldn't be giving her another chance to hurt me. She accepted that, and said she's quit drinking. Right!

Alida: Yes, the dark fence is mine. And all of the places in the film are in my little town. Remember the scene where they were sitting outside the back of the restaurant? If you had looked right behind them, you would have seen my little house. The ranch is up in the hills out of town, at a place called Sundance Ranch. Beautiful place. Glad you enjoyed the movie, I sure did.

Barb: You make me wish I'd never hung my skates up. I used to love to lose myself to the music and just skate in circles. As for the jumps...not me....to hard to get 240 lbs off the ice. lol But, I did a mean 3 turn.

Shelley: Toothache gone? Hope so. I've had my share and they aren't nice. In our town, if you get a toothache after office hours, you can go to the hospital and they will do something for you.

Judy: How did the visit to Plano go?

Terry: You amaze me with the things you know about computers. I'm just happy I know how to post here. lol

Peg: Good decision not to have the surgery. Once you move you'll be more comfy with being able to have someone come and care for you.

Do you guys remember my little incident with falling down the stairs at work? Well, at the time I told my boss those stairs should be ripped out before someone was really hurt. Of course, he just blew me off. On Sunday, one of our drivers fell down them and broke his ankle. It's bad enough that he's in the hospital getting pins in it. Thank heavens he had his cell phone on him, or he could have lain there for hours. The stairs have already been ripped out this morning after I started yelling at him and telling him he could be sued. He sure understood that word. New stairs will be put in tomorrow.

Better get back to work. Lots to do and not enough time. Story of my life. So, I'll take my little bloated fingers back to the keyboard. Talk to you all tomorrow.

Good Monday everyone!

I am temporarily back home. We got in late yesterday afternoon. Saturday's move went better than expected. The movers had adequate time to load everything and make three stops -- one to the assisted living, one at DB's and then take the remainder of the stuff to DS's. We were afraid that we would have to call them for a second move on everything that was not going to the assisted living home. DDad is scheduled to be released from the Rehab on Wednesday. By the time we left on Sunday, his new apartment was totally set up and ready for his arrival and there is only a couple of hours of work left to close the old apartment.. I spent a considerable amount of time doing my HGTV act on the new place. It should have a familiar feel to it. We brought him out to see things on Saturday afternoon. I think he was a bit overwhelmed, but should adjust fairly well. He will do just about anything to get out of rehab and away from the pureed food that he has been eating for the last month. The final test before his release, a swallow test, was to take place today. That was delayed by malfunctioning equipment. It doesn't really make any difference what the test showed, DDad would/will sign a release to go back to regular food anyway. I will return to Dallas/Plano on Thursday. We anticipate that he will need some help and support for a couple of days when he first arrives. We are going to have to do a little "tough love" with him and get him back to being somewhat self-sufficient. For the last 5 weeks, someone from the family has been to visit him everyday. My brother and SIL are getting really worn out. They have done 2-3 days each per week. My kids have picked up the the other days. Where possible DH and I have tried to take some of the burden off them. It's pretty hard though when you are 150 miles away. Sooo....... I have three days at home. Today I have to go to Tyler to get the dog. Tomorrow and Wednesday I have a giant pile of alterations to do for DDad and DD. Thursday and Friday morning I will do Dad support efforts. Friday afternoon and Saturday I go to DS's to help with the garage sale and I will come home either late Saturday or Sunday. It's a darn good thing that I'm off work!

To address the topic of the board............ I gained 3 pounds in the last two weeks. Serious efforts at mind and mouth control are now needed!

Judy, you remind me what hard work it was packing up my dad's place and getting him moved to assisted living. Amazing how much cr*p was stashed away in the smallish duplex he lived in. I know you'll be ready to collapse in a heap in another week or so. Hope you can do it. Any chance of rewarding yourself with a spa day?

Donna, sounds like your trip "south of the border" had its ups and downs. Thanks for giving us the full report. So many people seem to depend on (and take for granted) your hard work and common sense.

I took off early today to attend a funeral. Long-time acquaintance at church dropped dead with a cerebral hemorrhage last week. He was too young (77) but still--that would be the way to go.

Rachel, thanks for the e-mail. Glad you're still on earth.

Over and out.

Hi guys,
Sorry to be MIA. I had a pretty tough weekend with the tooth...ack!
I didn't call the dentist because there would have been nothing that he could've done, short of calling in some pain med, and I did have some left over from my nose surgery, so I used those.
Today at work was miserable due to the heavy schedule AND the pain of the tooth and NOT being able to take anything except ES tylenol. I called the endodontist's office first thing this morning...good news/bad news. The bad news is my usual endodon is out of town...waahhhh....she is so sweet and very gentle. The good news is, her associate can do my root canal Weds morning at 0800....YIPEEEEE. So if I can just hang in one more day, things will look up. I'm telling you, I am a person who HATES any dental pain...I am a TOTAL WUSS as far as mouth pain is concerned, so this has me in a tailspin for sure. I would totally appreciate any good thoughts, vibes and prayers you all might be so inclined to send my way......pleeeeezeeeee!
Sorry this has been all about moi. I promise to do better after Wednesday!

You guys are tops! (((hugs all round to my bestest gal-pals!)))

later chickadees,
Shell

Prayers ascending, right now, Shelley! I am a WUSS about dental pain too. I totally understand. I don't even HAVE an endodontist! I have terrible teeth and gums, and my dentist takes care of them. He has been able to stave off any periodontal surgery with his various treatments. I have been so grateful. As I said before, he also understands my difficulty with pain re the FM, so really shoots me up big time.

My advice: TELL your dr., before he/she starts on Wednesday. Tell him/her that you need BIG drugs for the dental part, and for afterwards. Though, to tell the truth, I've found that if I have enough anesthesia (the drug kind, in my gums) that I often don't need pain pills afterward. You might need them just because it has gone to a point of swelling in the gum and tooth cavity.

Warning, dentist story: (Highlight if you dare)

Good luck, girlfriend! I do so much know what you are going through. I had one go out on me while we were on vacation and was on the phone with my Dentist from Michigan (to MA). He suggested something that I was unwilling to do, so we cut the trip short and hot footed it back to MA. He was unavailable to do the surgery right then, so I took his partner, who didn't "shoot me up" enough. I "snotted" my way through the procedure (crying) and swore I would never do that again without enough anesthetic. I stop them "mid=procedure" if I feel anything. I warn them ahead of time....just to be sure.

Love ya,
Peg

Shelley, I can hardly imagine how you're managing to carry on "normal" life with that tooth thing going on. If you were a man, you'd be whimpering in a corner. You are the furthest thing from a wuss and have all my sympathy and prayerful thoughts.

I remembered (luckily) that my bf has a birthday this week. She's turning 60. What should I do?? Maybe this calls for a spa gift certificate. Alida, didn't you say Par Exsalonce was a good experience?

The manicure I got before the wedding in VA lasted the better part of three weeks. However, as usual, my nails are not happy with chemical applications, and are now in recovery. Once upon a time, I did my own fake nails with a kit from Wal-Mart. Kept them up for about a year. But in the end, I'm just not into that kind of maintenance--home or salon. And my nails seriously deteriorate when fussed with, no matter what products I use. Keeping them neatly filed short, and oiled when I remember, seems to be best.

Donna, I'm glad to hear you're holding the line with your daughter. "I've quit drinking" is a promise that flies right over your head now, isn't it? Yet how difficult that is for a mother to do! No matter how you resist it, she will always have the capacity to hurt you. Peg knows about that, too.

Yesterday I started watching the first episodes of "That Girl"--yet another popular show I missed the first time around. What was I doing then? Well, in 1966, I was busy with college. But I did have the hair--the flip. Remember? Oh my. Can it really be forty years since Marlo Thomas was a sweet young thing? And me, too. I once wrote a Shoebox card: "You think you've got problems? At least you never had to maintain the flip." It had pictures on the front from 60s yearbooks. That card struck a chord and was quite successful.

Now I'm wash-n-wear in every way. And I spend a lot more time getting sweaty than I used to. "Maintenance" takes on an entirely different flavor when you're zooming towards 60.

Well, enough musings for one morning. Hang in there everybody.

Good-day-before-Shelley's-Root-Canal:

Oh, Shelley, prayers sent for a painless root canal! I have had three. Two were OK. The third? Well, let's just say my jaw was so black and blue it looked like I was a victim of husband abuse! Same dentist, too. So I guess it was a crap shoot. Just close your eyes, let your dentist do his thing and it will be over before you know it. Then you will be pain-free!

Donna, OMG. I would have been ready to shoot that border guard. I had to laugh at your line "I was just glad to get out of there before he decided that my inlaws were too old and threw them away."

At least you came away with some $$, a new outfit and some ketchup!

Sigh. I am sorry it took someone's broken ankle to make your boss realize he had to replace those stairs. At least it's getting done. Have we all mentioned your boss is a jerk?

Yeah. Those breakfast buffets can be dangerous. I love those little blintzes, too!

Judy, Whew! You have a very busy week ahead. But the hard part -- packing and moving your Dad's apartment -- is DONE. Cross that one off the list.

As for the 3 pounds? I am not the one to give advice here! BUT, maybe try induction foods just for a few days?

I am going to keep this short this AM. I have some computer work to do this morning and want to make sure I have enough time. I'll tell you, this going to "work" every day is a real PITA. Sooo, see you all in the AM! XXOO

Barb, cross-posting!

Yes, I would recommend Par Exsalonce. They have a web site where you can look over the services:

http://www.parexsalonce.com

I did not get my manicure there, but the pedicure with the hot wax and leg massage was very good. And the massage? Heaven!

Massage......... I have a gift certificate for one. I hope I get the time to use it soon! Off to do more alterations. Blah. I can't seem to get motivated.

Shelley, hold on one more day. Prayers for a good and easy outcome. I need to have some dental work done, too. Don't know when I'll get that scheduled in. It's hard to think past this week.

The computer's acting weird. I'll try to come back later.

Judy, so impressed that you can do tailor duty for your family! Being put together with spare parts myself, that sounds so terrific. Your family is - yet again - so very lucky to have such a talented and hardworking daughter/mom/sis/wife!

I've just got a minute or so before I will need to leave for yoga. Much as I enjoy it, I tend to get a bit over-competitive and hold poses too long. I'm strong enough to hold the poses without shaking, but the strain tells on my ligaments, muscles, and joints later. I'm often quite sore the nextt day. And now I've got ~new~ FM trigger spots flaring (in the quadricepts, which is an unusual site for me). I am going to try to stay very conscious and try to learn some awareness of when to let go.

Shelley, I'm holding the good thought for your root canal. Doesn't your hopsital have an agency they can call for extra help? I keep hearing you say you cannot take off when you are sick due to work load. That just doesn't seem right. But, I understand, really - it's a part of being conscientious and having such a good work ethic. I always dreaded calling in sick, and felt guillty, even when I was completely wiped out.

Donna, gosh I'm not sure I know anyone who has won so much money in a casino! I guess your trip was a big success even if you could not find all of the goods you wanted.

I'll try to come back and write more later - I've got to go get ready for yoga and my hair is sticking straight up! I just got it cut even shorter. I showered just before bed last night and my damp hair dried in a totally impossible position!

What weird weather we are having! Rain and more rain, even fog in some places. Is summer ever going to come?

Not much new on this front. Baseball game last night and another one tonight. Only 4 more games and the season is over except for 3 tournaments. Sure went fast. I must say I won't miss the traveling back and forth to town on work nights!

Seeing as I didn't get to spend much time in the scrapbook store on the weekend, I went on line this morning and did way too much damage to my credit card. Good thing is the one dh doesn't know about.

Shelley: Good vibes going out to you for a speedy recovery for your tooth. When dd had her eyeteeth taken out her dentist gave her BIG drugs. After they started working she said she couldn't have cared less what he did to her. She was really flyin' high. Maybe you could get some of those too?

Terry: All this rain sure isn't doing my poppies any good. This morning they were laying on the ground after being beaten down last night. I'll have to drive by dd's house and see if the seeds you sent her are coming up yet and if so what the rain is doing to them also.

Barb: I checked you fitday account and saw you were able to save your daily foods. I haven't been able to do that. Or is that something you can do only if you pay for an account?

I remember That Girl, very well. I used to dream of having my own apartment just like Marlo Thomas, and being very successful like her too. Life doesn't always turn out like it shows on tv. But, I did love the show!

Wow...I've gotta get my butt moving here. It's 10:30 and I haven't done a darn thing except play on the computer. Talk to you all tomorrow.
