| Hi guys, Back from my walk and all showered and spiffed up....well, yanno...when I STBO....I can't even stand me...LOL ![]() Alida...I've worn a pedometer for the last several years when I walk....keeps me accountable I think. Anyhoo...I used my new one today. I wish I had worn my old one AND my new one just to see how much difference there was. I'm inclined to believe the new one though, which registered maybe a 1/4 mi less than my old one for the same walking route. I'll try and remember to wear them both next time...duh! Anyhoo....walked 3.80 mi in about 70 min. And the bonus...I've already logged in over 10,000 steps...yahoo! Barb...I second the hooray for lean jeans! You go girl! I'll bet those size 6's are in your near future! Bren & Peg...alright! Who made all the noise last night and kept ME awake? I also had a VERY sleepless night, despite my magical combo I had boasted about...aarrgghh! It must be something in the planetary alignments, eh?...or MIS-alignment as the case may be! har! Tonight doesn't look to be anymore promising as I will have the big *cleanse* going on, yanno? Yes, Bren...tomorrow is THE day Donna...hard at work, I bet. Hope you have a good week. Judy...what up in Texas today? Sewing? Do you have an install date for your new AC yet? Hope it won't end up being on a 100 degree day....OYE! Teel...are you perhaps *lurking* in the garden to catch the junco feeding the big un'? Hope you can re-capture those shots and give us a look see! Rach...(((hugs across the miles to you!))) Well...DH has taken his truck to get new tires...a man thing...so I declined to go with back later, no doubt! (((hugs chickadees!))) S.

| Morning ladies. Monday again...and when I arrived at work I discovered that we have no water. No big deal as far as drinking goes, cause I buy bottled water. But....what do I do when that bottled water needs to come out? I'll figure that one out when it happens I guess. Judy: I LOVED VELOCITY!! I'm a real Koontz and Stephen King fan. I keep wondering where these guys get their ideas from? They've got to be a little on the looney side. Can you imagine living with a guy like that? Also, thanks for the sizing hints on the pictures. I'll get it yet!! Shelley: Thank you also for the pixel sizing. At least I didn't blow up the board this time. I have New Balance shoes also. Actually, I hate running shoes and always have. But a few years ago I got plantar fasciatis and that was what the doctor told me to get. I would rather be barefoot (and not pregnant, thanks). They did really help my feet though. I'm like Alida, I like a white shoe, also. I'm also sticking to my walking at night and think of you when I do it. Our little town is pretty small so it's hard to try to find different places to walk, but I'm sticking to it so far, with you as my mentor! Barb: Ohhhhh, wearing lingerie to work? lol I love those frilly tops too. Makes me feel very feminine. You just enjoy it! Alida: Yup...that's the black lily. Actually, there is no such thing as a black flower. So, I have no idea why they call it that. It's sort of a really deep purply red. Pretty though, I think. Peg: Don't give up on trying to post pictures. Once I realized what I had done wrong I felt pretty stupid. But, everyone here is so helpful! You know a lot more about computers than I do so it won't be hard for you. Just boot your dh out of the room and practise. Your grandaughter sounds priceless...very much like my Micayla. So girly at such young ages. But then my dd was like that too....really prissy. She had different hairstyles that had to be done according to what dress she wore to kindergarten...and wear jeans...not on your life. She hid them in the back of her closet. Brenda: Good going on the painting. Actually, I like to paint. It's something that actually shows you the difference you are making. Does that make sense? Terry: Were you able to replace the lost pictures? I bet they were really something to see. I'd love to see them. I've been having kind of so-so days the last couple of days. It's soooo hot and muggy here. Just sucks the breath right out of you and gives you very little energy. Yesterday, I did almost nothing. And felt very guilty about it. I did end up on my butt on the grass digging out weeds for awhile, but that got boring so I had a nap in my lawn chair. Today I don't have much energy either. Must be something going around. Dh leaves at noon for Vancouver for a funeral. His aunt passed away last week, which only leaves 2 of 13 children left on his mom's side. Normally, I'd go with him, but the boss is out of town so I have to hold down the fort. Dh won't be home until tomorrow night so the bonus of all this is that I don't have to cook tonight. Just leftovers for me. A night alone is sometimes nice! Back to the grind for me. I'd rather be home vegging out again.

| Hey all? I?m in Armenia, and I have to say that I?ve forgotten how terrible the internet connections are ? especially from the hotel (at night, when I am able to check in with you all)? But? it is GREAT to be back here with this team? they are so lovely? people streamed into my office all day to squeal with delight and shower my with hugs and kisses and hearty handshakes. So genuine and sincere! The work will be intense (today I went into the office at 8:30am and got out at 8pm. I hope not ALL the days will be that long ? but there is a lot to do! I started induction today! I'm on FitDay...and I weighed in this morning with all my clothes on in the gym in the basement here and landed at 68 kg. (149.6 pounds). I am doing stretches and ?planks before bed and once up in the morning, and I?ll walk to the office tomorrow to see what the timing and sweat factor are like. If that doesn?t look viable ? I?ll get up early and walk on the treadmill. It?s so nice to have a routine!! Even an intense one! Ok, I?m behind after just one day ? but here goes?.. Brenda, are you still having a rough time sleeping? I swear by Ambien (which I know is not for everyone)? DH swears by Tylenol PM (like Peg). In terms of what we?ll be doing in the US until the next long term job appears? probably short term work in Washington DC (where we?ll have to rent a furnished apartment) for a few months while we keep up the search for a long term assignment somewhere. Quote:
Judy, loved the puppy pic ? cute!! And Donna?s right, Lexie is a beautiful, beautiful dog! Barb, I guess I know too much about Al Gore as a private person not to absolutely love and admire him (I have relatives and friends who are close to him). My understanding was that this movie is about making the general public more aware of the serious nature and long term consequences of global warming, not about providing any solutions (besides, if he had offered solutions then everyone would be saying, "oh he?s building a political platform?" so it seems he can?t win, can he?). I?m looking forward to seeing it. You might consider reading, ?Field Notes From a Catastrophe? by Elizabeth Kolbert. No judgment, just the facts, ma?am? She leaves the reader to make decisions about what is going on around the world. It is gripping. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/159...161514?ie=UTF8 I?m always so confused by countries who find intelligence threatening in their leaders?. ? And on to more important topics?. A MERLOT Miata?. Whoa? you really are almost too cool. Alida! You are way too generous in your assessment of us and our lives!! I pay a Georgian friend (who needs the income) to drive me to the Armenian border and the organization here has a driver waiting at the border to take me back down to Yerevan ? and we reverse the process at the end of July! Roger is working in Tbilisi and yes, staying with our dear friends who live up the street. And actually, the stuff we packed we may not see for more than a year ? it will arrive in the US in three months but unless there is a home for it somewhere ? it will then go into a storage unit until the next long term post comes through? and then it?s another 3 month trip out to that next post! <<sigh>> Teel?. Those pictures are really lost? I can?t believe that! Could it be that they were saved somewhere weird (I do that sometimes, hit a key to discover they?ve been saved somewhere like the OLK files or the Temp files? sorry! :( Shelley ? you are once again my exercise hero! I mean Barb is LCE site exercise inspiration ? but perfection is a tough act to relate to!! I am soooo happy to read about your walking!! Do you ever use an iPod? I found that books on tape were a fantastic way to hide the boredom and learn and enjoy at the same time? I sometimes found I would walk extra blocks so I could finish a chapter in a mystery!! LoL! And I?m dying to hear the verdict on the new pedometer? when I get to the US in August, it is high atop the list to buy. Peg, wouldn?t it be GREAT to sell to the couple you mentioned!! I mean a drag about the realtor?s fee ? but still, to be relieved of the stress and uncertainty of what would happen! Great!! And congrats on the iPod? I?m glad you didn?t get ?sniped?. DH has lost a number of auctions to snipers - :( BTW, I?m in love with your dgd, Faith? <<sigh>> Donna, those purple lilies against the purple background are astounding! I?m glad you found a way to post them! ?k gals, it?s past eleven pm and I MUST get to sleep ? lots to do tomorrow!! Much love to all?. Rachel

| Well, kids, the lingerie look was a big hit with friends and strangers alike. And yes, it is a yummy and becoming peach color. No regrets! Rachel--great to hear from you! And what a wonderful greeting in Armenia, after the trauma of the last few weeks. Enjoy it all you can, even if you have to work hard. And thanks for the good word about Al Gore. I do not doubt his integrity, and I think his electibility improves every second the war goes on. But I don't know about Americans putting intelligent, sincere people in the White House. The last one was Jimmy Carter, the world's greatest ex-President. Clinton is intelligent and sincere, too, but ooops! I'll be very interested in the political winds over the next couple of years. The hot air should really boost global warming! Time to go home. |

| Hey, kids, I'm about to pretend to go to sleep, but wanted to give our Shelley a big thumbs up for getting her colonoscopic tune-up tomorrow. Woohoo girl, and hey, really enjoy that power nap! Give us a shout whenyou wake up. (Sorry about last night--sure didn't mean to pass the insomnia around to you, Peg or anyone else!!) Donna, yup, I do know what you mean about painting. You get a lot of bang for your buck and it's satifying to see change so quickly. Great lilies! Rachel!!! So good to hear from you and know you're in the hands of your Armenian friends. Thank goodness for friendship and love, which make the bumps in the road easier. Barb, I haven't had any frilly girly-girl thing for quite a while, but you've put me in the mood I think we're going to get your rain by tomorrow. Good! _______________________ DH has repaired my laptop, which hasn't worked well for years--hooray for eBay and their mysterious suppliers of bargain basement computer parts. | Each year the senior class comes up with some kind of "motto". Most often it is found on an unauthorized class shirt. This year's motto was "Time well wasted." That's kind of what I did today. I wasted time pretty well.

| Good morning! This is just a quick note to tell you I am alive but heading to Front Page to work on the web site. If I don't get cracking at it when I can (early AM), it will never get done. It's so much easier working on one's own site. Factor in two other people who have their likes/dislikes ... then it gets tough. Shelley, GOOD LUCK today! I hope all the prep last night was not too bad ..... Peg, your granddaughter is a stitch. So cute! Judy, your day sounded pretty good to me! ("Time Well Wasted" for a class motto?) Brenda, Barb (of the frilly top), Terry, Donna, Rachel -- HI and promise to catch up later! Got to run. Love you all.

| Hi, Alida. You are up SUPER-early, 'cause it's only 5:20 as I'm typing right now. I woke up at 3:00, and decided to spend an hour with my new yoga video instead of trying to talk myself back to sleep in bed. Good choice. What is this with the no-sleeping epidemic? Along with the summer slump, some of us seem to be in a sorry state. Well...this too shall pass. Judy, your "wasted" day included exercise, shopping (which didn't sound recreational), vacuuming, gardening, and cooking. Your standards are way too high! ![]() Shelley, mucho good thoughts are with you today. The hard part is over. Hope all your lil' endos are in good shape. Bren, apparently my step-Grandson has a drawerful of parts and pieces from DeVry surplus from which to construct cheap-o computers. His next project is a server, so he and his brother can...well, whatever it is people do with a server. It is handy to have a geek around. Enjoy the laptop. I'm writing Grandmother Birthday this week, so if you've got any ideas... See ya later, darlin's. |

| Hi Gang! Today is staging day, and I need to get it done before the real estate agent comes at 10:00 to take pics. We had the carpets cleaned yesterday, and they are still a little damp, but I'm doing to put stuff on them anyway! They didn't come until 2:30, so we ate dinner in my office (which I didn't have cleaned). I went to bed at 9:00 last night and asleep by 10:00. I slept until 6:00 this morning, so pretty good! I'm not feeling exactly chipper, but that is a result of it being early morning and not lack of sleep. Bren, I don't know how you do it more than one day in a row. I was a very grouchy zombie by about 2:00 pm yesterday. DH kept gently urging me to go to bed, bless his heart. He is the one who got my grouchiness. Judy: You are going to have to work a little bit harder to be a slug. Sorry. Slugs don't have anything on their list for the day. Ask me. I do it all the time! Barb: Right-o on the top. Doesn't it feel good to get compliments? I bet you looked so good in it. Shel: Prayers ascending for a swift and forgotten procedure today. Write when you can. Alida: Happy web-building. Wish I knew how. Rach: SO GOOD to see you, darlin'. And how wonderful that you got such a welcoming reception from your Armenian friends. You deserve and needed that after the hell you have been through. Doggone it! I was hoping for a trip to Massachusetts for you, but no go, huh? Donna: Thanks for the encouragement about the pics. I'll try when I get a little time. Terry: Whatcha doin' today? We are supposed to get boomers this afternoon. I have the Weather Channel on my computer, and the radar shows them blooming up over New York right now and aiming our way. I mean, what could be better than a clean house and a boomer to watch! I'll be back! Peace, Peg

| Morning ladies....looks like everyone is very busy today. I didn't sleep well last night, with dh out of town and a strange dream that I had that is still bothering me. Seems in my dream I tried to pull a fast one in a store where I was buying something for my cat. The clerk put someone else's name on the bill and charged it to their account and I didn't try to correct her. I pride myself on being honest so I can't understand why I would have this type of dream. Can't shake it though...or the feeling of dread that I've had for the past 2 days. (my psychic gramma trying to tell me something from beyond?) Last night I did end up cutting the grass but no walking. I had every intention of doing it but found out that the show I've been following (Treasure Hunters) was a 2 hour episode and started at 8 instead of 9. I sure couldn't have walked any earlier cause it was so damn hot. So, I watched the episode at 8 and then found the 9 o'clock episode I had seen. That meant I could make my lunch and hit the tub for a bit. Night sure did go fast. Now I'll have to walk twice as far tonight! Peg: Hope the staging goes well. Do you think the young couple you mentioned will contact the real estate about the place? A fast sale would be nice for you. Shelley: Sweet dreams, girl, and when you wake it will all be overwith. Take it easy the rest of the day. Judy: I just started another "gripper" last night. Ever read any of David Balduci's books. Really good. This one is about a fellow that copycats all the different serial killers. Not the type of reading I should have done when I'm alone at night, I guess. I've also oftened wondered by people don't put their kids down for naps. Other things that bother me with kids are: Why don't babies wear shoes anymore, or bonnets? Why do parents think kids should learn from experience? They keep their kids up all hours of the night so they can sleep in late and not get up until noon. They've slept away the best part of the day. Sorry...just ranting. Barb: Gramma birthdays? Hmmmm. Can you slide something in there like "I'm sorry I don't call often enough?" lol Writing cards must make you think about family a lot, I would think. Some of the verses that I read bring back a lot of memories for me. Alida: This job of yours is cutting in on "our" time. I miss your newsy posts each morning. Now you know what it's like for me when I want to get in here and see what's going on but can't cause of work. I think instead of coffee breaks (which I don't get), we should all get computer friends time. Rachel: Are you settled in yet? What a welcome....bet that just warmed your heart. Terry: No more pictures? I saw the ones you posted of the dragonfly. Wow...just gorgeous. Well...work is calling again. I got behind yesterday cause one of the employees is buying a new car and the car lot and the place where he's borrowing the money kept calling me for information and wanting letters confirming his employment. By the end of the day, I felt like I was the one buying the car.

| Hi guys, I'm home and I've had my second power nap, but still feel a little bit like there's cobwebs in the brain space, yanno? The Dr told DH I'm A-OK on both *ends* So, I'm good to go for another 10 yrs...yippeee-skipeee! The prep work had me up almost all night...ugh! I do just want to give Barb a possible idea for those Grandmother cards...how about a card that has a bunch of different grammie names on it ...like whatever you call your grandmother...nana, nonney, mimi, grammie or mamaw... put all the names on the outside of the card, and on the inside say something like...those are all names for love. Cheesey maybe, but there are so many names for us nonneys...and we never tire of hearing them Tomorrow will be a very early day and a long day at work. I really enjoyed my time off but now it's time to hit the clock again. We FINALLY got some much need rain last night...hooray! Maybe more tonight they say. Oh....very pleasant surprise this morning...as I was checking email, Rachel IM'd me! Yay! She was up and already working. She communicates with her DH via msn, so I got to say hey before we had to leave for the hospital. Sorry not to chat with everyone...like I said...a few cobwebs are left. DH said he will cook(meaning it will be carry out), but after 2 days of liquids I may celebrate with a burger and hidden text a few fries!!! Alrighty, galpals...thanks to everyone for the well wishes for today...they worked! I think I'll prolly hit the hay early tonight and should be good to go at 0400!!! (((hugs to all))) Shell

| Just dropping by momentarily... hope to get a more chatty post in later. I've enjoyed reading and keeping up. I've been stalking Baby Huey and Ms/Mr Junco and got some more pics as well as a little movie. None as good as the ones that went missing ( just like fishing - nothing's as big as the one that got away). I haven't dowloaded the movie yet to see if it's at all viewable. Anyhoo, hope to post a bird pic by and by.Is it normal for a parent bird to feed a flying fledgling for so long?

| Hey there! Donna: So good to hear from you! Gotta agree with you about kids and naps. I get so sorry for kids whose Moms expect them to make it through an afternoon of power shopping, even in a stroller. I was probably over cautious, but I never went out when it was nap time. They went to bed in their cribs and went to sleep. They woke up to me there, and anxious to cuddle. Things were different then! Shelley: So glad you're home and the news is good. Gosh, I wasn't up at all the night before my two procedures (endo and colo). Glad it's done for you for 10 years. Me too! Yay! My Dh (who is a hemophiliac) was called by his new hematologist this afternoon. He wants to see him before dh has a colonoscopy. I suspect that they will admit him and give him factor 8 before they do the procedure. If there are polyps, they will want him to have had something that will help him clot. Actually, even if there aren't they won't want to take the chance that he may have a small bleed. Anyway, I sort of sorry that you have to go back to work tomorrow. It would be nice to have another day to sleep, no? Terry: I don't know a thing about any birds except geese. We have the "pleasure" of watching them and their entire life cycle from our windows. You know that I consider them "rodents." Well, a less stressful day since I got eveything done here. The condo looks really nice. Dh is cooking tonight and we are going down to eat in the basement. The table is set with my dishes and crystal and silver. It looks really nice (if I do say so myself!). My back is killing me! I took some BIG drugs and am waiting now for sweet relief. Peace, Peg

| Hi girls, Tomorrow is the day. We'll be living like Donna........ no air-conditioning. The installers will be here about 9:00 tomorrow morning and the replacement is a full day process. This better prove to be a saving on the electricity bill or I will be PI$$ED! Donna, I swear I don't know how you do it. Is there any humidity at all where you are? I swear the humidity is what makes the heat intolerable most of the time here. Alida: Are you using a template for the design on Frontpage (not one of the included themes)? I've downloaded and used some nice ones at a fairly low cost before. It certainly helps to make a uniform look. The biggest problem that I had was in adding pages later on and in changing the name of a page. I think I eventually go to what I needed but since I taught the program to myself, I always screwed up along the way. This web is out of date, but I built it with frontpage: http://ptcenter.tripod.com/ Barb: Glad to hear that the lingerie look was a hit. I haven't gotten to the point of buying something in that style yet. I'm as Peg would say....... more of an Ann Taylor type girl. How about something in the grandmother cards about how they help anchor us to the past while grounding us for a successful future. Brenda: Did you sleep last night? Like Barb's grandson, we generally maintain a mysterious supply of computer parts. We have one computer sitting around right now that a lady left to be fixed and then never picked up. It will probably be "for sale" before long. I wonder if through the wonders of ebay I could find a new motherboard for my laptop. It was another acquisition from a customer that didn't want to pay for the needed repairs. It has issues! but it's darned sure useable and better than nothing. It stays in the kitchen downloading email all day long. I have withdrawal when it's not there. Donna: I picked up a David Baldacci book at the library today. I think this one is based on his family instead of being a thriller. The title is Wish You Well. I feel like a smoker out of cigarettes when I finish the last book that I have available. Because our library is always behind getting the newest -- and because we are limited in money to buy books, we don't always have the things that are discussed here. If I was more organized, I would write down the things that everyone has recommended. Others that I picked up (also fairly old to really old) were: Phyllis Whitney, Woman Without a Past; Patricia Cornwell, Predator; and John Grisham, The Partner. That ought to keep be busy for a while. Peg: I bet you have quite a satisfied feeling with the house ready to show. May you have the best of luck, lots of visitors and multiple offers. I think real estate here must be different than in other parts of the country. Some houses have open house showings, but most just get listed and then real estate agents bring in customers that might be interested in the property. Right now there are three houses for sale within a block on me. The signs have been out for more than a month on each of them. Three is an unusually high number for this neighborhood. We are lucky that the neighborhood has seen very little turnover........... however, the residents are now getting older and I'm sure it will start to happen before many more years. I'm afraid that when the turnover does happen we will see the neighborhood deteriorate. These are not "top of the line" homes anymore, and are more likely to be considered "starters." Rachel: How goes the new routine? Did you have to put in another 12 hour day? They certainly get their money's worth when you come in for a three week session. We're glad to have you back. Shelley: Ok, you did the colonscopy thing. How was it? The doctor has been telling me for two years that I need to have it done. The only way I see that happening is if he schedules it before I leave the office the next time I go in. Hope your head clears soon. Terry: "Is it normal for a parent bird to feed a flying fledgling for so long?" The only baby bird we every have are wrens. Once they are out of the nest we never see them again. I'm not sure how long the mom will feed them. Do your baby birds go back to their nest?

| As promised, here I am in bed, posting to you while I watch TV between my toes Barb, Judy we have no shortage of spare parts here, either. Boards, cases, drives, keyboards, a spare monitor or two, and enough wire, cable, tie wraps, and gizmos to fill the mothership. I suppose I can't complain since my "hobbies" have consumed some acreage in the past. Judy, I needed a motherboard for my laptop, too. We got one, brand new as it turns out, for $30, $40 with shipping, so eBay's worth a look. It was surprising how many of them were available, and there was a lack of the competitive bidding you see on so many electronics. We'll be sending you cool vibes tomorrow. I think I'd plan a day out, myself, somewhere nicely air conditioned. Shelley, glad all went well and you're lookin' good inside and out. Really great to know you're good for another 10 years! Take it easy tomorrow, too, though. I find the fuzz brain lingers somewhat. TB I remember watching bluejay parents practically push a youngin' out of the nest when they thought it was ready, then hovering around as it learned to take longer and stronger little flights, from a few feet on the ground, to the fence or bushes, and finally into trees. The process would take two or three days, and the parents would distract predators and continue to feed the little one until, I presume, he was strong enough to fly freely and find food on his own. Peg hey, pretty exciting to have your open house tomorrow! You've prepared well and have a lovely place, so I'm thinking it will go well. Did you have those boomers?? We were supposed to have some nice ones, but all we got was the humidity. Maybe tomorrow. Donna , you may have had two jobs today, but I'm sure that driver appreciates your help. I hope you won't let your dream worry you too much. You know what kind of person you are, so I don't think that dream reflects badly on you--very few of mine could be taken in any kind of literal sense, at least. Alida , you are one busy lady these days. Yes, I can imagine that trying to please anyone with web design is challenging, but especially when you have a more intimate or emotional connection with the business. It must in some ways feel like you are tearing apart something you worked so hard to create. ++++++++++++++ oops, need to see what's going on with the dogs--back later!
