Hi Gang!

I've just got a minute before I have to get up and start dinner. Our heat wave broke and today it hasn't gotten out of the 70's. It is VERY humid with Tclouds overhead. It's supposed to rain. We'll see.

Still waiting on a counter offer. The people want to see the place again tomorrow night at 6:00 pm. We are going to go out to dinner with my "friend" who was fired. Remember? Today we had a professional videographer in to video the condo. As soon as I get a link, I will send it to you. It will go on a website for New England homes.

We heard from the ofh and they may have a place that has 1634 sp ft, but it is upstairs. It has three bedrooms. I don't know anything else about it. It's in a house that has two apts. below. Would you do that for the rest of your life? I don't know that I can. I told dh "no." But, I'm trying to be open. The place they have for rent is furnished, and we are not too interested in that. I should say, I have NEVER been interested in it, but dh knows now that he is not interested either. Whew! So, that means an apt in the community, which would not be bad. It's a college community and there are apts. for 6-mo. rental. Such scary and exciting stuff.

Judy: My dgd has decided on this darling costume. She wants the one in green #5207. SO much easier for me since I don't have to piece. Sounds like you are having a good time, even though the weather is awful.

Shelley: Hang in there with the weather. I give you lots of credit that you are even willing to walk in this weather.

Barb: Happy Anniversary!!!!

Happy evening to you all!!! Bren: I miss you, as well as others too.

Peace, Peg

cute dress........ and probably easier than Ariel's dress. Have fun finding the sewing machine in time to get it ready for Halloween.

Hi guys,
Just popping back in for a minute or 2. We hit 107 today and tied our all time July record. We are forcasted for 110 tomorrow!!! Dang!!!

Peg, I'm NOT walking in this heat. Actually, my heel is flarinng again from being off my NSAIDs waiting for my endoscopies. Sooooo...I'm going to back off the walks for a week or so. If my heel doesn't feel better, then I'll just have to go back to the gym and work on the stairmaster and some of the machines. Always something!

Judy...reading and sewing, eh? Atta girl!

Bren...hoping you are A-OK, my dear and NOT in the throes of a nasty migraine.
You are missed.

Alida...how are you doing? Hope all is well with you & Bob.

Barb...so....what was for dinner?? Steak, lobster, shrimp or all of the above??...LOL.
Hope you and your sweetie had a grand time

Teel...I certainly sympathize with the faulty eyeglasses dilema....aacckk! Hope your expedited order comes through in time for your trip. I should get a call, maybe tomorrow or the first of next week, that mine are ready; at least I hope so.

Donna...how's the work coming on getting the plumbing fixed at your work place?
Speaking of water...we are under a strict outdoor watering ban. I won't lose alot of $$$ if my marigolds die from heat exhaustion, but I'll really be ticked if I lose a tree.

Rach...hola! Hope you are well!

Ilse...very pretty. That looks like it could take up a lot of time! wowzers!

OK...schedule is really busy for tomorrow...aacckk. Up at 0400 for me. I did get to the grocery store today, so that will free up my weekend a little more...yay.
My LLBean order also arrived today. I think the hiking shoes(low cut boot) will work. I plan to break them in a little bit each week end. I'm a happy hiker
I also ordered this healthy back bag and it's really niffty. I can tell it sure makes a difference over a regular shoulder strap purse.

Gotta go get my brekki and lunch ready for tomorrow. PTL it will be Friday!

((((hugs chickadees)))

Stay as cool as you can!

Shelley

Sorry to be MIA, guys. I'm ok, keeping up with you somewhat, but have been having bouts of vertigo the last few days. I thought I was having a sinusy thing last week, but it may have been a virus that has settled in my ears for a while, says the doc. Much hugs to all, meanwhile I'm spending a lot of time clinging to the bed while it spins. (Where is the "throwing up" smilie, LOL) Who needs Disneyland!

Where to begin? My head is spinning a bit, too, this morning. I polished off quite a lot of bubbly, a lovely big salad, a hunk of porterhouse, and (finally caving in) one of those Butterfingers ice cream bars. Can you say major carb hangover??? Enjoyed it all! We watched Dirty Dancing for the bazillionth time, and enjoyed that, too. What's not to like about watching Patrick Swayze sway?

As for dizzy--Bren, hope that gets gone real fast. My dad suffers from perpetual vertigo now, and the docs say, "Well, you're old." And that's that. He tries not to talk about it a lot, but you can imagine how hard it is to live with it day in and day out. Take it easy, and get well soon!

Ilse, nice to hear from you. The bowl is beautiful. It would be nice to display on a stand where you could see both sides.

Shelley, don't you dare walk in the heat. Plenty of opportunity to get back to an exercise plan when the weather cooperates. Sorry about the heel thing though. It's kinda hard to do any kind of aerobic stuff without using your feet. I'm fascinated by this Tour de France cycle guy (Landis?) who seems to be roaring ahead with a hip that's totally deteriorated. Ouch!

Peg, the Princess costume is darling. Making that will be a delightful distraction from all the other complications going on.

Possible thunderstorms in the forecast today, but it's still too early to tell what's going on out there now. I'm just happy it's Friday, and look forward to a weekend of doing errands, a bit of housekeeping, and not much else.
Maybe it's an ice skating weekend, considering the heat wave.

I'm picking up my dad for lunch at Tasso's today. I'll check in here after lunch.

Good morning!

Hopefully, next week will see me a little more here on the board! By the time I read all your posts, it's time to go. SIGH.

All's well. Bob is doing great! Today the insurance guy comes to look at the wrecked ceiling. Cracks not fixed BUT at least all the guttering is fixed so water drains away from that area. It's so nice to have a son that KNOWS stuff!

Brenda, I do hope you will be feeling better soon. Vertigo is awful. You can't do anything. Can the doc give you big drugs for it?

Sorry guys, I have to run. SIGH. XXOO

We're having a "reverse sunrise"---darker and darker and darker! And here comes the gullywasher. I'm watching it from my window at work. Boy, is it dark out there. Alida, hope you're not on the street right now. At any rate, this should cool things off for a day or so.

By the way, here are some of the Grandmother ideas they've accepted so far:

Nothing compares to the love of a grandma...
She's a parent with all the "don'ts" worn off,
a teacher who never gives tests,
a friend since before you were born,
and forever after.

#####

You've given me life's greatest gift:
fabulous genes.
(Not to mention a great example
of how to use them.)

#####

You're a fountain of wisdom,
a river of generosity,
an ocean of love...
Metaphorically speaking,
I'm soaked to the bone.
In actual life, I'm very grateful.

Coming to a Hallmark store near you...in about two years? Actually, I'm really gratified that they took that last one. I don't think I've ever used the word "metaphorically" on a greeting card!

Hope all you Grandmothers see your inspiration in all this.

Hi Gang!

Barb: I love those verses! I'm kind of bummed that they didn't accept the one about me, though. (ha) I've chuckled over that many times!

Well, summer is over here. We didn't get above 70 yesterday and today more of the same. We do have a thunderstorm warning, but yesterday was the same and it never materialized. Beryl barreled through Nantucket last night, but didnt' do any damage. Our upstairs neighbors are there for the week. They'll have a story to tell. Weathermen here seem to really play things up so that the public is scared to death by the time that we get a normal storm. I get a kick out of it.

Today our handyman comes to finish up the tile above the shower in the MBr bath. Then I have to stage the place again for the folks who "proposed" that long thing with contingencies and stuff. They are coming again to see it tonight at 6:00. I think I told you all about that. I just finished washing all my crystal in the hutch and shining the glass shelves. It looks so much better! I managed to break three goblets while doing it. Luckily it is a cheapy set that I got from Pier One for Christmas dinner one year. Just so happens that it matches our everyday dishes, so I kept it out. Remember a couple of years ago when I had two dinners for ten? Well, it's that "crystal." Not crystal, really, just thin glass. Now I have 6 wines and 8 goblets. Down from 12 of each! Once my uncoordinated dh tried to take the tablecloth off without removing the crystal first. (He is a wonder!) That took care of a number of them. Oh well, less to pack!

We heard from the ofh yesterday. We are fifth on the list. That doesn't mean that we have to wait for five people to move out, but does mean that they have to offer to four before they offer to us. They have a 1600 sq foot, 3 bdrm UPSTAIRS that they wanted to know if we are interested in. Second floor. Below us would be two other couples in smaller units. It's a converted BIG house. We would have the entire top (second) floor. Would you want to live on the second floor for the "aging" years? Seriously, I don't think that I want to. I've got arthritis in my knees and stairs are going to become a problem sooner or later. Anyway, I'm still thinking about it. On the apt. side, (where we willl live in the interim)we will rent in the community instead of on the campus of the ofh. They want to furnish their apt, and we want to have our stuff. At least that is one decision made! Whew!

Bren: I'm so sorry to think about you with vertigo. I've had a touch of it once and I can't imagine what it must be to live with it for more than 5 minutes. Your description of the bed spinning reminds me of my college days. There was more than one night that I lay on a spinning bed. (Of course, I was drunk!) Get better, sweetie.

Terry: I certainly hope that they are able to get you your glasses before your trip.

Donna: I hope that your heat wave breaks soon. With just the heat that we have had, my poor impatiens are looking a little yellow in some of the leaves.

Shelley: I AM glad to hear that you are not walking in the heat. How was your day off yesterday? Are you off today too?

Alida: Yeah, I'm with Donna. I miss your newsy posts too. I imagine that when you get home, the last thing that you want to do is get back on the computer.

Judy: Ordered the pattern online today. Now, I need to go to the Fabric store and see if I can find a remnant of green taffeta or something like that. I was thinking of that shimmery kind of tafetta, you know what I mean? The kind that shows another color when you walk? But, if I'm going to buy a remnant, I can't be a chooser, I suppose.

Today is just a "getting ready" for tonight's showing day, which means that I can take some time to read. It's warming up out there, our AC just went on and it's set at 78. It's also really humid.

See ya'll later.
Peg

Great attitude, Peg!
And by the way, the jury is still out on those Grandmother ideas. "YOU" are still under consideration. I'd pass on the upstairs apartment. You don't want to be hauling groceries (or anything else) up the stairs as a regular thing--even able-bodied.

Can you tell I'm waffling at work today? Clicking over here instead of starting that assignment. Oh well. What are Fridays for??

What a gorgeous morning we have. Blue, blue skies as far as you can see. Looks like we are going to be breaking records for heat today and tomorrow :hot: But it cools down to bearable at night. I finally slept right through the night last night....first time in over 3 years. Gotta love it when the night sweats and hot flushes finally disappear....I feel like a new woman! (sorry, Brenda, I didn't mean to send them to you)

Wedding day for my friend tomorrow. It's her second marriage, but her first nice wedding. About 100 people will be standing in the heat. Hope they have some kind of shade rigged up for us. It will be a fun party afterward though. It's always fun when I don't have to make the dinner and the drinks are free

Peg: That's a gorgeous pattern. My little Micayla would look so cute in it too. But, she's so tiny at 5 that I don't think we'd find her in all that material.

Brenda: So sorry about the vertigo. I only had it once for a brief period when I had an ear infection. Not fun. Hang onto those bed posts and take care.

Alida: I think those bosses are working you too hard. Don't they understand that we want to be able to hear from you each day too. Sheesh....bosses just don't know priorities do they?

Barb: Loved the first verse. In fact, if it's okay, I'd like to use it on a page in my scrapbooking. It would be perfect with a picture of myself and my grandkids.

Judy: Still having fun with the embroidery? Staying cool with the new a/c and having a new toy would be the best.

Shelley: No, I still don't have water at work. It will be at least a month until it's fixed. They have to dig trenches and hook up to a new water system. Before that is the legal end of it getting water rights etc. I would still be interested to find out why our water just quit in the first place, but the boss just keeps saying it's not important. Not to him maybe, but it sure is to me.

I debated whether or not to walk last night but after losing a pound yesterday I decided it would be the road to ruin if I didn't go out. So, I waited until after the sun went behind the mountain and headed out. I sure wasn't alone on the street. After awhile at this, I'm getting to know the regular walkers and I start to wonder what's happened when one of them doesn't show. I had to take it a little slower last night due to the heat, but still enjoyed it. Poor dogs didn't get their walk last night...just too hot for them. So, their daddy took them for a car ride instead. Not too spoiled.

The good news is that I'm down another 1/2 pound this morning. I'll take all that I can get. It dawned on me last night that I really haven't been eating too many green veggies except salad (and that's getting tiring). So, I cooked a pot of broccoli to have with dinner. Also, I've been able to stay away from snacking after dinner too. I'll get back down closer to 150 yet.

Stay cool this weekend, girls. I doubt I'll be posting...but you never know.

Hey gang, thanks for the good thoughts. Yes I have drugs (Antivert), which are helping but also make me sleepy and dopey, and all the other seven dwarfs.

I will try to post a little and we'll see...

Peg, big excitement your way. Got to agree, an upstairs arrangment for any length of time doesn't sound appealing. I think it would depend on what the alternatives look like for me. Cute pattern!

Barb, wonderful verses. I enjoyed the last one; the use of "metaphorically" tickled me A special grandmother would love it. You know, I can't imagine having vertigo on a regular basis like your Dad, Barb. Bless him, that's got to be disorienting.

Alida, I can imagine it's bittersweet to think of now selling the etchlike business too....
Hope the homeowner's insurance will cover your water damage repairs without a fuss.

Donna, congrats on losing the pounds this week. Enjoy the wedding and give us a report.

TB, Judy, Rach, Shelley, hi to each of you. Forgive me for not commenting today.

Not funny. But funny. Hang in there, Bren.

Last night, our "Reel to Real" movie group divided itself between the two auditoriums at the theater--one bunch saw Wordplay (I'd already seen that) and the other saw Prairie Home Companion. Thanks to the beautiful break in the weather, afterwards we had a pleasant conversation outdoors at a nearby coffee bar. Nice way to finish the week. In spite of some great performances, I thought PHC was kind of a downer, which surprised me.

Donna, you're just doing great on your commitment to getting more activity. That's especially admirable with the awful weather conditions. Hope you continue to see gratifying success. Hope the wedding today is beautiful, and as comfortable as possible.

I've enjoyed a couple days of off-plan eating. But today's the day to JUST SAY NO again. I'm still seeking that elusive condition of a more relaxed approach to eating without the weight creep. But in my heart, I know that's not really possible. I just have to keep paying close attention, or those little extras start to add up. (Or BIG extras. DH didn't settle for one or two bottles of anniversary champagne. He bought a whole case. This should be enough to last until Christmas, but it's hard to keep ignoring it.)

Peg, they didn't accept "outrage" for grandma, but suggested I send it on to the Birthday or Friendship editors, which I will do.

Workouts this morning, then other maintenance activities. I'm going in search of Dr. Dent for the car, and a cutter for my hair. I'm really being tempted by those sleek, close to the skull haircuts, but I'm afraid it would make me look harsh--not to mention not knowing how the texture of my hair or the shape of my head would accommodate it. Carefree is my mantra, but that may be going too far. Maybe next summer.

Take time for YOU this weekend, m'dears. Catch you later.
