| Barb, I have one of those very close haircuts since mid spring and I quite like it. I used to feel exposed and self-conscious in short hair, but now I actually feel freer. I'm going for a trim today and I'll ask Bob to take off some slender trendrils we left at the nape of the neck. They help to "feminize" the cut, but my sunscreen tends to migrate and make them look too stringie. One thing I didn't like about the really short hair was when he squared off the back - that looked too mannish to me. He'll have to find another way, I guess. LOL! Poor man - having to come up with a look for thin, fine hair with an unfortunate hairline pattern! Still hot here - over 100 yesterday. It's only 8 am and it's already 80 degrees - most unusual. I've had several "off plan" eating events in the last week or so - some planned some not. Oh well. I'd hoped for better; but there it is, so I'm changing my sig weight. Peg, I agree - better to take a pass on the upstairs unit, even if it is bigger and lighter - unless there's an elevator, which I doubt. The right place will come along, and you have time. My PC's power pack is terribly fragile these days and tends to shutdown even more frequently - sigh. They certainly aren't built to last these days. It's 3-years old, and the very high end monitor (for a laptop) darkened (and cannot be repaired) when it was only about 18 months old. I'm not sure about putting more money into it. OTOH, I don't want to spend money on a new one either. Anyway, I'm going to post this now before it shuts down and continue a little later.

| Barb, I think a shorter "spikey" look would be pretty hot on you TB, although I have a short bob, it's raised in back a bit and the underneath back is clippered up a couple of inches (No. 2 blade). Then she takes the close clipper blade and neatens the shape a "W" sort of, so the points of the W are at the back cords of the neck. As far as anyone has told me, it looks feminine. I'd love a shorter cut, but having had one as a kid, I know my hair sticks straight out all over, and my forehead is way too high. Those of you who can do it, go for it!

| I'm waiting for dh to get home from work so I can feed the poor man before we leave for the wedding. He's been up since 6 and I know he doesn't eat at work. I managed to get up at 7 and surprised myself...before I even did any housework I went for my walk, then came home and got the dogs and walked them. It was cooler at that time then it would be later at night. I'm coming to think of my walking time as "my" time. I tend to complain about living in a small town, but this morning I was thinking how nice it is to know everyone and talk to each person you know on the street. We know all the names of the RCMP members that are stationed here, temporary or not, and I feel totally safe no matter how early or late I walk alone. Sure wouldn't feel that way in the big city. Anyway, when I got back from walking the dogs, I cut the grass (bet my neighbours loved me cutting it at 8 a.m.). It was 80F by that time so as Shelley would say I was STBO! It's going to be a scorcher today for sure!! I'll have to remember to take water to the wedding. My weight stayed the same today and I let out a big sigh when I saw that. We had chinese food last night and I was so scared it would jump up again. I guess my choices of mostly veggies worked for me. Stay cool everyone...gotta go.

| Hi all, It seems that I have gotten into a bad habit of reading and not posting. It just doesn't seem that there is much going on here. It's hot, I read or sew, and venture out for short errands once a day or so. Yesterday I did go to the movie with my dear neighbor across the street. She is taking chemo treatments for breast cancer this summer, and has about 4 good days in each two week cycle. Our trip to the movie yesterday afternoon was only the second time she has been out of the house this cycle. We even went to eat afterwards. When she finally does feel like eating, she tries to make up for all the missed meals so that she can keep her weight from free falling. Barb, I agree with Brenda, if you like the idea of short spikey hair, try it out. It will grow back if you don't like it. Like Terry, I have quite fine and thin hair. When I was younger, I could get away with short cuts. Now, DH would divorce me, and to be truthful, I don't think they would be as flattering anymore. I'll just stick with the mid length bob type cuts. It seems that that is what my hair prefers to do anyway. I decided long ago to quit fighting it. Gotta go...........DH has something for me to do. I'll try to get back later.

| hi Gang! Well, false alarm with the bidders on the house. They came back today with a ridiculously lowball bid. We said, "Sayonara, loser!" I am still fuming. Their real estate agent didn't do them any favors. They were comparing us with another condo in the complex that DID sell for a lot less. It doesn't have a lake view, nor a finished walk out basement. If they had looked at the comps for last year just in our building they would have seen that the very same unit as ours sold at the same price we are asking, last year. Too bad. So, it's back to square one for us. Another open house next week on Sunday. Judy: I sent for the pattern. Now to find some fabric. I went out early this afternoon to get some "toys" for my new Ipod and almost fainted in Radio Shack! I came home with a "flop" sweat and shaking like a leaf. I got dh and asked for some protein (cheese). After an hour or so and some protein, I felt a lot better. I think my blood sugar must have bottomed out. I had bkfst this morning with two members of the church who needed to complain about the pastor (not me). Sigh. More listening. Anyway, it was probably the pancakes. Terry: I love short hair. Though, I must admit that I have LOTS of hair. I am very lucky not to have lost a lot of it so far. This humidity has put quite the curl in it. I used to have curls when I was a little girl. That was before Estrogen. And, since I have none now, I can only deduce that my hair is "youthening." Donna: Good for you for walking. Keep it up girl. I predict that you are going to see a whoosh soon. Barb: Yeah, I guess that grandkids wouldn't say "outrage." However, mine might. I was thinking about your case of champagne this morning on my way home. I would have a hard time staying out of it too. Alida: Whatcha doin' today? I hope you are resting. Shel: And, what about you? Are you resting today? Bren: I hope that your vertigo is getting better. Rach: I hope that you are feeling better today. Can you stay in bed today? Well, I'm going to lay down before supper. It's dh's week to cook, TTL. Peace, Peg

| Nope. Not "spikey." Don't like spikey. I'd like hair that's sleek like a redheaded seal. I'll try to find a picture. My haircutter told me today that she's leaving the shop. Aaaack! Just when you get one you can trust. Her husband graduates from boot camp this week, and I can only imagine what's in store for her. Back of the neck is an important decision. Tendrils would be nice, and I also like the sculptural effect like yours, Bren. For now, the tousle continues. Peg, the difficulty with those grandmother ideas is that they weren't intended to be sent by kids, but by young adults. So the grandmother recipients would be closer to 70 or 80 than a "youngster" like you. I could certainly apply the attitude of "outrage" to my long-suffering dad. Sorry your condo deal had a setback, but it'll happen. Now I think I'll go install the new toilet seat I bought, retouch the red hair, read for a while, and call it a day. Judy, you don't have to post a novel. We just like to know you're around. Good thoughts everyone. |

| Hi guys, Kinda ducking my head also...I've been reading in here, but not posting much. It must be the heat...no energy, perhaps a little down and out about the weight thing...AACCKK!!! Anyhoo, today was the end of my first week back at WW, and my first WI... only a 1.4 lb loss...sigh. So, onto week 2 with great expectations...snort! I kinda feel like Judy...not much going on here except the heat. We did get a little cool front today, and only got up to 91 or 92 degrees. The rain that was supposed to come with it, missed us though. Dam*! What movie did you see, Judy? Peg...yanno...I did take a nap today! Surprised the heck out of myself...I usually don't nap, but must've been more tired than I thought from this past week at work...man was it crazy! If you do that again(the near fainting/syncope), you need to get thyself to the Dr, my dear. 'nuff said and (((hugs)))! Bren...yeah...is your vertigo any better? I've only had it briefly twice...and yep...the usual causes...inebriated(first frosh fling at college) and an inner ear infection. Both times were awful and I swore I'd never get another ear infection as long as I lived...LOL! Barb...I CAN definitely see you with a short, sleek do! I'd say go for it too. I may go back to my little short and sassey cut next summer after my 35th HS reunion. When you get up at 0400 like we do, a low maintenance mane is a good thing! Alida...hope you are having a good weekend! You've been one busy little cookie, eh? Hope you are getting some much deserved rest! Rach...how are ya feelin' sweetie? Up and about I hope. Your assignment will be ending soon in Armenia, right? Then back to the US...yay! Bet you'll be glad to see your family again. Teel...heard anything about your eyeglasses yet? I thought I might get a call yesterday, but I did not, so I guess maybe this week coming up I'll get them. Good thing my old glasses were in pretty good shape. It pays to have a back up pair for sure! Donna...you go girl...walking queen! This will totally take you out of the running for slug queen, ya know. My heel is maybe feeling a little better, so I'll see about a nice walk in the morning. I need to make some muffins for this week to take for brekki for work, but I'd rather walk first while it's cooler out, then bake later in the day. We'll see. Well...2 loads of laundry done and folded, my only accomplishment for the day....and how sad is that? LOL. I had big plans to sweep, mop, dust and vacuum, but the nap attack won out. Oh well, as Scarlet said..."there's always tomorrow" later, chickadees! (((hugs to all))) S.

| I'm caving to cravings. I taste tested a number of things tonight including some mashed potatoes, gravy, bread crust, and bread pudding. in an effort to stop the bleeding I made myself a mock danish and topped it with some of the bourbon sauce from the bread pudding. Now that was good! Lord, I don't want to see the scales tomorrow morning!

| Good Morning! I missed yesterday morning because I thought I was going to have to put Buddy to sleep. He had a HUGE lump on the other side of his neck. Bob and I took him to the vet Friday after work. With his history, vet said it might be a tumor. In that case, he would be euthanized. All Friday night and Saturday morning at the hairdresser I was a wreck waiting for the vet's phone call. He finally got him on a table and was able to check him out under anesthesia at 1 pm. Eureka! It was an abscess. He found a tiny part of a tooth in there. (Muffin??) Some skin did die (necrosis) so now Buddy is walking around with a huge hole on the side of his neck. It oozes and I have to get hydrogen peroxide on it twice a day. And back to the antibiotics, too. But Buddy LIVES! Not sure how much this cost. Bob is not happy about the expense but he agreed to it. Peg, good riddance to those contingency people! But don't be surprised if they up their offer! I agree with everyone about not getting that upstairs apartment. Sheesh. Just think of the trips up and down with the groceries! Judy, I know what you mean about not posting because stuff is same-o. Same here! LOL! Mock Danish with Bourbon Sauce!! BTW, it's also good with DV pancake syrup poured over it! Brenda, I do hope you are feeling better! Hmm. I didn't notice a "W" at the back of your neck! All I noticed was a GREAT hairdo! Shelley, good news on the 1+ pound loss! Are you following WW exactly or are you low-carbing their program a little? Barb, the verses were lovely. Different and not the usual pap. I like that! You mentioned looking for Mr. Dent .... does the car you are selling have a dent? And I like the haircut you have! You can probably achieve the sleek look you are looking for with a pound of goo on your hair. They make stuff for that. Terry, you are being so honest by changing your sig weight! Actually, I forget about changing mine. I hope one day it won't be a lie anymore! I've never had a laptop. But the PCs I have had seem to have lasted quite a while. And my old high-end clunky monitor (diamondtron) is still plugging away. Because of the graphics work I do (or used to do), I like a smaller dot pitch. Maybe that's not a factor with those LCD monitors. Donna, yea! on the weight loss! Last night on the news, our local sports reporter told of how some football players would lose up to 15 pounds of water while practicing in the heat of the day. Now why did I think of you?! Sheesh on the water! I mean, what happened to the OLD water line? Rachel, sending good vibes that you are finally feeling like your old self! ------------------- The insurance man was over on Friday. They agree that we need a new ceiling. But that should not be fixed until we find the leak. They are sending someone over next week to try to find the source of the problem. We will have to pay for fixing that problem, but they will pay for a new ceiling ... or at least a patch and paint job. Off to sit with Buddy a little before I get on with my day. Next week is going to be very hectic. I may not be on much. (And yeah, Peg. When I get home I don't even go downstairs to the office, much less get on the computer!) XXOO

| Alida, good thoughts coming your way for Buddy. Hope you can kick back today and put aside thoughts of plumbing and other business for a while. I've got a hail dent in the hood of my car, and two small ones in the roof. Not a big deal, and it would be worth the expense of a fix to keep the sales appeal of the car. Or for me, for that matter. As for the hair, sometimes i do use a heavy-duty wax to sleek it back. My sister calls it my "Julie Andrews" look. Shelley, what are you thinking?? 1.4 lbs. in a week is great. Keep up the good work. I suspect you set very high standards for yourself in everything, and there's no cure for it. Judy, if your life isn't all that "exciting" right now, that's a good thing, no? I've finally finished the thriller I was reading--Dead Watch by John Sandford. Very complicated. Next up, the Afghanistan book. Frankly, I wonder why I scare myself with fictional political horrors, when the real world is providing so many every day. Condoleeza, please figure out a way we can just get the h*ll out of every other country, and mind our own business. I think it will be pleasant enough for an outdoor walk/run this afternoon. DH will be busy helping Tiger win the Open. Have a nice day girlfriends. |

| I slept in very late today; it was about 8:40 am when I got up. DH actually came in and woke me up as I so rarely sleep past 8 am, no matter how late I went to sleep. I'm still shaking the cobwebs out of my head. Quote:
Peg, closing with those contingency people might have been a real PITA. Not that many people have had the opportunity of seeing your house yet, I'm confident you will get better offers. Do you feel like you are walking on eggshells? I think that's how I felt after the house went on the market last year. Shelley, did I hear it got so hot in OK yesterday that a freeway buckled!?! We are having record breakers here, too. It was 108 here yesterday (okay, yes, Donna and Judy - you are allowed to sniff). And it stayed very warm over nigh - it was still in the 80s at midnight! It's not even 9:30 am, but it's already in the 90s. The city is leaving the community centers open much later than normal so people can have an air conditioned place to hang out in the evenings. Needless to say, the malls and theathers are very full. We went to see Pirates of the Caribbean, Dead Man's Chest last night. It was a rolicking entertainment - very droll. My DSis laughed her head off; then said after - "I don't think it was as good as the first". But, now that I think on it, she never comes out and admits that she really liked a movie. I do hope Rachel is getting over her awful flu. I hope she at least is keeping some fluids down - that can be pretty risky; especially in the summer. I remember I just about wanted to die by the 3rd day I had the flu last spring. And, Brenda - has your vertigo passed yet? I can imagine the constant spinning gets old pretty fast. I think in your place I'd go with the drowsy pills until it passed. Ilse, I like the way your mosaic projects worked out. What kind of filler do you add around the tiles? I bet they look smashing when you are done with them. My current haircut is really, really short. We got rid of the trendrils and I have sort of a W in the back. But the hair is pale brown or dark blond, and it's so fine and thin that it's not much of a style statement. Like Judy, I thave a high forehead, and it's very broad, too. Earlier in my life, I would have been repelled by having such short bangs, but they stay fluffier and cleaner than long bangs. I have oily skin, and wearing sunscreen in the summer just makes it that much worse (the only sunscreens that don't kill my eyes are on the waxy side, I'm afraid). Dsis dosen't like the short hair, but DH says he likes it (bless him!). Alida, I didn't say earlier, but it was a relief to hear that Bob is back to looking more like his old self. I hope he's starting to feel better, too. I was glad to hear that Buddy's lump was treatable. Cat abcesses can be pretty nasty, eh? If it turns out that the leak came from the repaired siding, will the siding company warranty the repairs? I would think they should if it's only been a year since they did the work. Not that I know how long sidings are supposed to be warranteed. Around here, roofs are supposed to be warranteed for 3 years - that's all I remember about structural work. (and, I'm not even sure that's a current practice, as our old roof repairs were done over 20 years ago).

| Hi gal pals! Just popping in to say hey. Not a thing new with me, so I have nothing to report...LOL. Sometimes, boring is good, eh? Thanks, Barb and Teel for the support on my 1.5 lbs. The thing is, I usually have a very nice 2-4 lb whoosh when I first start an eating plan. But, I was down 4 lbs from the 1st of July, when I had started strict calorie counting, so altogether, I'm down about 5.5 lbs, but only 1.5 lb since starting WW. So, I guess it's all good. I will certainly take what the hateful scales are willing to give...LOL. Teel, yes we had a section of the interstate buckle on the day it reached 108 degrees. The road crew put a temporary fix on it, then they will re-surface it when it cools down a little. We are forecasted for the low-mid 90's today, then right back into triple digits this week coming up....UGH!!!! Peg, Bren and Rach....how are you gals feeling today? Hope everyone is in the pink! Judy...did you get your cranberry outfit all finished? It's hard to even conceive of wearing a wool outfit at this time....but fall/winter will be here before we know it. Alida...so sorry Buddy has an abscess. He truly has nine lives, doesn't he? Glad he's on the road to recovery. About WW...I'm still trying to avoid potatoes, pasta and rice. I have been eating some whole grain cereals and very limited bread. I am enjoying having lots of fruit again, even a wee bit of pineapple on occasion. Practicing portion control and having to be accountable to someone IN PERSON is probably going to help me more than anything, I think. Like Teel said, the WW *frankenfoods* can be a pitfall if I let them. So many bullets to dodge... Donna hope you are having a nice, restful weekend. We want to hear all about the wedding...and a few pics of YOU all duded up in your turquoise capris would be nice to! We are still under an outdoor watering ban, so that shoots me in the foot for washing my car today....ack! I canNOT stand a dirty car, and mine is pretty pathetic looking. I may toodle up to the car wash...it's better than nothing at all, I guess. later, chickadees! Shell

| Hi Gang! Well, Summer seems to be over. It was a nice two days while it was here. Today we are in the low 70's with very cool air. There are dark clouds overhead. Terry: Yeah, thanks for the words about the "lowball" bidders on the condo. We feel okay about saying no to them. And, it was a PITA. Next week (Sunday) we'll have another open house. I can't believe your weather. It's NEVER that hot in your neck of the woods. I'll bet you look smashing with shorter hair. I'd love to see it. Alida: Geez! I can't believe your Buddy. He definitely does have 9 lives. Also, glad to hear about the insurance news about the leak. Every little bit helps, huh? Shelley: I don't blame you, I would be discouraged about 1.5 lbs too! Every time I went back to WW it seems as though I never got that initial woosh that I got the first time. Doesn't seem to work on Atkins either. Doesn't seem fair does it? Barb, Bren, Judy, Rach, Donna: Have a restful day if you can. Peace, Peg

| Hi ladies. Today I really am the Queen of Slugdom. It's too damn hot to even walk outside. We have all the fans on in the house and the airconditioner cranked in the bedroom (where dh is taking a nap with 2 dogs and the cat on the bed with him). I made the mistake of walking outside to the carport with my bottle of water and book but when I saw the temp was 45C (122F!!!) I went right back inside and had a nap in my chair instead. It's hot in the house but bearable. I'm definitely not going outside until the sun goes behind the mountain. The weatherman says this high pressure area that's here has come from California and is the largest one they have seen in 8 years. So....just who was it that sent it to us? I'd like to have a little chat with them. lol The wedding was lovely. It was really hot but they had tents that we sat under. Even then, my capris were stuck to me when I stood up. It was a fairly short ceremony, about 1/2 hour, but very nicely done. The brides father and son gave her away, which I thought was nice. I was so glad that I had taken a bottle of water with me. (hmph...dh didn't think he needed one and ended up drinking half mine lol) The reception was great. Air conditioned! A nice cold plate dinner...all low carb except the buns which I didn't have. Music was grrreat. All 70's music. I love to dance, but do you think I could get dh off his butt. Not a chance. What's with guys who don't like to dance? Don't understand it. When he first saw me, I was on a dance floor so shouldn't that have told him something. Anyway, I think we will be having a conversation about the no dancing on his part. I told the Legion members that they should think about hiring the dj for New Years. Everyone loved the music. The booze was free also, must have cost the bride and groom a fortune. Liquor pigs aways come out of the woodwork when it's free. I hate to see people order a drink and then just leave it cause they want to try something else. I just stick with my rye and diet coke. Only problem was keeping it cold. I'm not a fast drinker and the ice just didn't last. So, I wasn't worried about weighing in this morning, and I was right...the scales didn't move. The way I'm sweating, they probably will be tomorrow. I've spent the last hour on the computer looking up lc recipes. One of these days I'll get them all in a book. Just pieces of paper in the cupboard right now. Alida: I'm so happy that Buddy's still around. Absesses aren't fun, but are treatable at least. I had an un-neutered male that was a real scrapper. He had so many absesses that I learned to treat them myself. I had a good vet that would sell me penicillin when I asked for it without taking the cat in. That wouldn't happen in this town...they might lose the $58 they charge as soon as you walk in the office. Not much else happening here. Dh is pouting cause the blower on this a/c broke in the truck so he has to drive with the windows down. Jeeezzzz, he could take it right across the street from our store to have it fixed. A mechanic he's not. Guess I should go and figure out what to do with the baby lobster tails I have thawing. In this heat...I'd just as soon not even eat. Talk to you all tomorrow.

| Alida: I swear, you must have a crystal ball, girlfriend! The bidders on the condo came back to us today with a considerably more reasonable offer. We have accepted it with just a little change. We're now waiting to hear if they will accept our counter offer. If they do, we need to be ready to leave by August 29th! Yikes!! Donna: I don't know how you live with that heat, darlin'. Good for you for getting into the house with the heat as bad as it was today. I had a good IM today with my dgd. She was at camp last week and had a real transforming experience with her counselors who were Christians. She has decided to go to church which thrills me. I do so hope that my dd3 will take her to church. She doesn't now. It's a long story. Love ya'll Peg
