| Ah, don't worry about a few extra cherries - they aren't donuts, after all. Chock full of antioxidents and all kinds of good phytonutrients. I read a study some time back that found cherries seem to help diabetics control their glucose levels. That explains - perhaps - why cherries have such a low glycemic index number inspite of being a higher carb fruit.

| TB, the S700IL looks like a nice camera! I like the big viewfinder and that it has both manual and auto white balance settings, among other features. DH has a pocket-sized Canon (PowerShot S400) he always travels with. It's a few years old now, has been banged around a lot, and still takes great pictures. I guess my camera is more "mid-sized", isn't it. DH also has a Canon digital SLR D60, but now that's a big girl. Anyway, just to say we've been very happy with our Canons. My favorite film camera, though, was a Nikon, and many people I know are very happy with the one of the CoolPix digitals. I think I need to clarify the earlier statement about my camera; it isn't hard to figure out; the manual is a clunker, though. Yeah, stabilization is a really nice feature--comes in handier every year! Glad you are finding dpreview helpful. I love that site. Shell, fortunately I didn't have cherries in the house today or I'd have been a goner, too after TB's luscious picture. Our local stawberries are ripe, though, and I'm gonna get me some o that! Nite, all!

| I'm glad to hear the little Canon's are fairly robust, as I'm likely to knock it around a bit in the line of duty. Quote:

| Good Morning! Whoops. I forgot yesterday was July 1. Thanks, Barb for being the one without CRS! WhooHoo. Pictures! Terry, your backyard is absolutely beautiful! Really and truly like a shot from Better Homes and Gardens. It looks perfect for the garden tour coming up. Where's the egret, LOL? And Cherries! Shelley, that picture is good enough to be enlarged and framed for your kitchen. Don't you have red accents in there? Or was it Peg's kitchen? LOL about your comment about induction and fruit. I slipped up a few times with fruit, too. We've been doing this so long, that true induction seems to be a vague memory. Red nails sounds like a winner. You will look HOT. I am like Barb. I usually do my own nails. Maybe a manicure should be on my list of things to do today. Back to Terry. My camera is a simple Sony with a larger memory card. It's about 2 years old now, but it works just fine. Like all things tech, it seems one can get better stuff now for less. Remember when getting a new computer meant spending around $3k? Thank you for the Benjamin Moore link. While I don't need a hand-held color scanner, I did notice they had their paint colors in downloadable format for Photoshop and Autocad! The Punch software I use is basically an autocad program. Hope it works! Scanning a paint chip into Photoshop and getting an RGB doesn't work that great. Also, Home Depot or Lowe's does have a little scanner device. Put the scrap in the scanner and presto, out comes the closest color. Of course, I don't think Brenda will want to lug a rug to Home Depot! Peg, you are having a lovely weekend! Reading, napping and a little cooking. --- Break --- It's 5 AM. I have to go turn on the hoses --- It's now 5:25. Yup. Took 20 minutes just to adjust the d*mn hoses. Of course, it doesn't help that it's still DARK outside. The lawn on one side of my house is shared with a neighbor. I don't mind watering some of her grass, but I try not to get her windows and siding wet. I don't want to get MY siding and windows wet either. So it's a dance to find just the right setting. Kim, it's so good to hear from you. I do remember when you lost your sister. I know you are still missing her, and always will. The day can be going merrily along and then all of a sudden a thought comes to mind and the heart aches. How are YOU and MOON doing? Donna, wow. A post on a Saturday! As for white carpets, I had one in the big house in my guest bedroom. Always seemed like my cat threw up THERE. And it was a long way from his food bowl! I think dogs like the "hold factor" a rug presents. Wood floors are too slippery and won't hold their toys and bones. How did it work cleaning the carpet outside? Did you decide to go it on your own for Canada Day festivities? Brenda, stretchy wrist weights? I may look for those! I currently have several barbells which are a PITA. Speaking of paint, there was a blurb in our paper a few weeks ago about a British paint that's considered the top-of-the-line. Called Farrow & Ball, it's for sale right here! I thought I might go and take a look. The paint is clay-based and goes on like butter. It doesn't drip or splatter and a gallon covers more than 400 square feet. At $60 a gallon, it should also take out the garbage. Doesn't cost $$ to look, though! Barb, what exercise are you doing TODAY? As for movies, I think we will go see "The Lake House." It's probably grade B but I LIKE movies about "going back in time." Time to move the hoses. At least there's some light outside now! Have a great Sunday. XXOO

| Woo--we're all about cherries today! Shelley, no wonder you went over the edge. I think I'll just be content with "eye candy." My self-control would not survive a bowlful of those beauties in the house. What is it about instruction manuals?? I think one problem is they have to be linear, whereas working a camera is more multi-task. In order to put together one "action," you have to consult six different sections--and they're never easy to find. And besides, the camera can do a gazillion things. It's hard for me to get much beyond point-shoot. White balance? Geez. That will have to wait for another day. Yesterday afternoon, while DH and I were watching The Black Widow (Jeannette Lee) win a nine-ball championship (HE was watching--that lady does cleavage very well), there was a kind of "sigh" from a power glitch. Then we started noticing the house getting hot. Yikes! What happened to the air conditioner?? Not a good thing on a Saturday before a 98-degree holiday! As it turns out, the breaker tripped for some reason. Fortunately, DH was able to figure this out before total panic set in, along with a heart attack from imagining the $$$$ for new AC. DH has been enjoying playing pool at home with the grandson. They are both extremely competitive. DGS says he's getting so good his friends aren't eager to play with him anymore. I've always suggested to parents that they teach their boys and their GIRLS to play pool. It's non-violent (well, usually), requires no particular physical strength (but plenty of finesse and strategy), provides a social opportunity (between shots you can talk to each other), and is a powerful display of testosterone (requiring no testosterone!) DH has provided quite a lot of counseling for male friends around our pool table. While he kicks their butts, of course. Chitter-chatter. I've got vacation time to fill! Back later. Hi, Alida! "The Lake House" is definitely on my list. Where shall I meet you? |

| Woohoo, Rachel! Happy Birthday! Alida, up before dark to water? Now that's not something I would like to contemplate. Bet your yard appreciates it, though. We're still getting enough rain that I only have to water the potted plants and newly planted ones. Dad's infamous gourds, for example. Terry, Alida, my paint store has one of those scanners. I'd been thinking that if I found a fabric or a window treatment I really loved, I could get a wall color that way. As of now I'm still in a quandry. Maybe I'll get the wallpaper off first so I can procrastinate on a color decision. Yeah, that's it! Procrastinate! Barb, yowee. Very scary when the power goes out in mid-summer no matter what the reason. Glad it was only a circuit breaker. Ya know, pool is one thing I've always wanted to learn, but I've never had home a pool table could cohabit comfortably. Cleavage, eh? LOL! Donna, Alida. I've never had the nerve for a white carpet anywhere. Yup, I agree that for barfing, eating treats, or the occasional accident, carpet is the preferred substrate for our animal kids Alida, I googled for the wrist weights and I think they may be discontinued since there aren't many hits. However, here's a place that seems to have one of the weights and the price is fantastic. I think I payed maybe $15/pr way back when. Softone Wrist Weights I'll leave you with a pretty picture (IMO) since we're talking cameras Hugs to everyone!

| Hi Gang! Well, I just put a pan of lc fudge in the oven and started a bowl of lc vanilla ice cream. Tonight we are having a Shrimp Dill Salad that came off the Saving Dinner Site. I really recommend it to anyone who has trouble coming up with lc meals. It's 84 degrees here and we have a thunderstorm warning going off. However, it's just darn humid. There is so much humidity that the air is actually visible! Just think, next Summer I'll be complaining about 105 degrees about now, but it won't be humid. Summer out there is something to be borne, just as Winter here is to be borne. My dbrother is in Tucson. Now there is heat!! Golly it is so good to see all the pictures. I wish I could figure out how to post a pic in photoshop. I have the danged software. I just can't seem to get it the right size. You will all remember my pic of the Mitchell Corn Palace. :silly: Happy, happy birthday, Rachel!!! A fourth of July baby, huh?? Your poor Mom! Though, I suppose that she was in an air conditioned hospital. I hope that you are coming to the end of the packing and can post here pretty soon.DH proposed that we start doing some of the stuff today that needs doing before we show the place week after next. I fell asleep right after that. I had been reading the paper. I think that he went down to watch whatever game is on this afternoon. We went to his church this morning. Whooee, that man can preach!! All about America's broken covenant, ala John Winthrop's sermon before landing at Plymouth Rock. Well, I'm going to try and post a pic. I'll be back: No I'm not. I just can't figure out how or what to post. ?Gotta go, Peg

| Happy Holiday weekend everyone!! Happy Birthday Rachel! You guys were a chatty bunch yesterday while I was out of town. Let's see if I can manage to catch up. Alida -- Let's see if I can answer some of the questions you asked. 1.) We are still getting estimates on the air-conditioning. We have the one from the Trane dealer and are expecting others from Lenox and Carrier. The area of our house that this unit will serve is about 1800 SQ. ft. It is right on the cut off line between a 3 and a 3.5 on unit. The old unit was supposedly 3 ton and has turned out to be undersized. We will go with 3.5 this time. My brother , the architect, says that you should select a unit that has the highest SEER rating that you can afford. That's where you get your energy efficiency. The quote we have in hand right now is in the range of $4,000. That includes several things that are going to have to be changed to accommodate the new larger unit. 2.) As for the sewing machine..... it is essentially a computer. There are designs that are programed into it right now and it has an extra disk with several other lettering types. Design disks (containing about 10 designs) cost around $20 each. That's where in the long run, it is better to purchase a unit to download individual designs from the internet. Many designs are free. The units cost from $130 up. Designs of the correct format can then be written to a blank disk and used in the machine. Clear as mud? Barb -- Awww, you got an air-conditioning scare, too. No fun! We expect to have our out for an entire day when we make the change over. I may be looking for a place to escape. Can we expect to see you playing pool on TV soon? Brenda-- Was the picture you posted from your yard? Looks like we have another gardener among us. Toes done for yoga??? Isn't it amazing the details that we think of when attending an event? Donna-- How's you weekend going? Did you do the gardening or go to the festivities. Whatever your choice, I hope it was enjoyable. Kim -- Thanks for dropping by. Your are more than welcome to dip in at anytime. I remember you saying before that you told your sister to take care of her little babies and that you would watch out for the ones that were here. What a tragic thing to have happened once, much less twice. Peg -- Vacation? To be honest, I'm surprised that you are getting any vacation at all. I would have guess that the temporary job meant that you had to work all weeks that you are employed. I think I'll get you to negotiate my next contract. Enjoy reading and getting the house ready for sale. Did you decide to go with a real estate stager or do it yourself? Rachel -- Two more days and you will probably be packed out. Did everything have to come back to the states, or did you guys get the post in Armenia? Shelley -- Wow, wonderful pictures of the cherries. When I was in NE at the first of June, they had cherries at break a couple of days. Let me tell you, people went through the huge punch bowl sized dishes of those cherries like vultures. We commented many times that none of us could afford to buy them to eat like that at home. I confess to having more than one bowl full of cherries. Terry -- You too have a beautiful garden. Heck, we're just trying to get some new grass to grow. It hasn't rained in so long that our water bill is jumping up there this summer. If any of you want to come work in my yard, I'm sure DH will be glad to lend you the tools ~~~~~~~~ I need to get myself up and go work on some of the many projects that are in the sewing room. You saw a couple of finished things, I also have finished the cradle bumper pads and have the cradle's skirt ruffle under way. I really need to finish that skirt and the cradle linens today. Other projects are a shower wrap from a towel for DD, and some more stuff for Olivia. ........... So, what am I going to do??? probably go take a nap. Oh well, what is it they say about good intentions?

| Peg, your dinner sounds scrumptous--I'll be right over! We're having hot muggy weather, too, and it sounds like DH and I have about as much ambition today as the rest of you! Judy, that sounds about right for your AC unit. It's a shame they're that much, but what are you going to do? No, not my garden. I took that at an old overgrown farmstead. It looked like someone had lovingly tended the garden in the past. I don't know how true the colors will be on everyone's monitors, but any opinions on the following?

| Hey,everyone...Happy holidays! Ours was actually yesterday, but I get tomorrow off instead. Yes!!! This morning I got up and decided to get my chores done before the heat was terribly bad. Well...it was a good idea. I just finished and it's almost 2p.m. I started off cooking up a pound of bacon, then made 5 mock danish for the freezer, then a batch of flax muffins and followed that with a sausage quiche. (man...those things look gorgeous when they come out of the oven). So, now my kitchen is hotter than it is outside! The only smart one in this house is the cat who is curled up on my bed...in the only room with an air conditioner. Oh, well, I'll appreciate the breaky foods next week. Alida: I wish my neighbours were as considerate as you are. On one side of me is an old lady that we call "the glow worm"....she only comes out at night! She puts a tiny little sprinkler on her grass (well, weeds) and moves it around using a flashlight. If my sprinkler even goes a tiny bit over the fence she's screaming into the phone. On the other side is a couple that actually only come over here every second weekend. They put their sprinkler on last Sunday and it's still going. I'm sure the fence is going to rot! I'm so tempted to just sneak over there and turn it off. Terry: Oh, your garden is just gorgeous. Puts mine to shame. You have so much variety! I'm still trying to get more things in the garden. When we moved into this house about 20 years ago there wasn't one flower or flower bed. It's taken a long time to accumulate all the plants I do have, but I'm still not happy with them. Brenda: Gorgeous lily. I've just noticed that none of my pink ones came up this year. I have yellow, white, black, orange, and red. Guess I'll just have to buy more this fall. I vote for the yellower looking colour. It would be so sunny looking in the room. Are there lots of windows? Shelley: Ohhhhh, those cherries! I could just dive into that picture. It's blueberries that are really my downfall though. As a kid, I used to pick blueberries to get money for new schoolclothes. I'm sure I ate more than I picked so you'd think I'd never want to see another one. But, it didn't work that way for me. I still love them. The bigger the sweeter. Rachel: Happy Birthday. We're all still waiting to see a post from you. Miss ya girl! I have to start my Tuesday off with my yearly mamogram. What a way to start the day. The alternative wouldn't be very nice though, so I'm just glad that the province provides them for free to anyone over 40. Can't understand why people don't take advantage of it. Stay cool everyone, and have a great day!

| Just a question. I'm thinking of putting in an order for a whole bunch of different Da Vinci syrups seeing as I can't get them in Canada. Do you think netrition is the best place to order them from? Or any other places?

| Netrition would be my choice, Donna, because of their flat rate shipping (at least here in the US). Otherwise, the bottles are so heavy you pay big $$ for shipping charges. Thanks for your input on color!

| Hi guys, Just got back from the dinner date with DH. We went to Johnny Carino's. I ate very modestly and I am stuffed! Had a nice big salad and the Italian pot roast with the veggies(peppers, zucchini, a few carrots shards, yellow squash and a few pieces of asparagus in the mix). I didn't want to *un-do* my whoooooosh I had this morning...down 3 lbs...yipeee-ki-yi-aaayy!!! I also got a nice 3.5 mi walk in this morning before it got hot; still STBO though ![]() Bren...I would vote for either of the 2 colors on the right...the buttery yellow or the light mocha looking shade. Both are dreamy. The lily is beautiful! The lighting is perfect. Judy...whatdidya end up doing today?...napping or sewing? Peg...umm...yeah, I'll have some of that dill shrimp salad also...YUM-O! Alida...we also watered this morning...PITA for sure! DH has a lawn service that does our fertilizing and weed control, so we try really hard to follow the instructions after a treatment. We may get some rain on Weds they say...<insert crossed fingers here> Barb...what did you find yourself doing today? Reading, writing or spinning? Rachel...hope you are celebrating your little heart out! Many happy returns of the day! Teel...I was thinking of you as I was fighting with those d*mn cherries! LOL! What a PITA to de-pit them, but I got 2 large freezer bags full done. Then I said to heJJ with it and just left the rest in a large bowl in the fridge for snacking :fork: Well, guess I will go make out my grocery list for in the morning. I'll go walk early, then shower and head to the store...ugh! I have to remember to get my *clear liquids* for next weekend...BIG UGH! My endo procedures are coming up next week. Now I wish I had gone first instead of DH!!! LOL!!! Alrighty...off I go... (((hugs to the gal pals))) Shell

| Bren, I also put my vote in for the darker colors on the right. What did I do?? Napped, sewed a little and stood around and watched DH pressure wash the house. It looks so much better --- especially the patios. Of course you can also tell how bad it needs to be painted now. Air conditioning first, paint later.
