Shelley: You are the best! Sorry I didn't get your post in time to e-mail it to you. But, the funny thing is that before I posted the picture I was getting the stretched out thingy. Weird. It's strange the picture should have been so big. I cropped a whole bunch of things out of it and it was a pretty small picture. Again....thanks.

Donna, I see that Shelley has fixed your picture. Your cat's bed is just perfect to go with her fur color. You have a big cat and little dogs --- everyone about the same size and color. Go to this site and download the free program. http://www.irfanview.com/ It is a good picture viewer and does a great job of resizing pictures. I have several editing programs and use this one because it is sooo easy. I generally cut the pictures straight from cameras to about 33% of the original size. They seem to come out just right to post on the list.

Shelley, Don't downplay your technical abilities....... you did a great job. I know you are good with that camera and software. Just look at that beautiful pic of cherries the other day. Did you pull down the wallpaper?

Barb, Glad to hear that "The Lake House" is good. My neighbor across the street is taking chemo right now and I promised to take her to the movie one afternoon when she is having a good day. I think that's what she would like to see, but it may be gone by the time we get there. Second choice movie is "The Devil Wears Prada." I missed something , what's up with the comment about the real estate guy?

Brenda, Did you make a paint decision. It's been interesting to hear everyone say how the colors looked on the different monitors. While the cleaning people were downstairs, you should have told them to come on up. I'm embarrassed at the state of my house right now. So, have I cleaned house? Nope, I'm just not into it right now. I'm having more fun doing other things. Besides, why bust my rear now before they do all the equipment change out and clean the air vents -- it would just have to be done again.

Peg, Think about this one.......... you've lived in your condo for 6 years. I've lived in this house since 1974. We moved in with so little furniture that we had empty rooms, had two kids, closed the houses of grandparents and one set of parents, had kids move out, and have been here through the whole thing. Can you imagine what it will be like when we have to down size? There are things that I would get rid of right now, but DH is semi-packrat (all be it a neat one). My kids are going to cuss me some day I think. Sorry to hear the DD3 is having a hard time. Good for you for asking for specifics on things to help while avoiding bailing her out. I think it will be good for both of you when you finally get to Calif. You will be there to do things with the kids on a more regular basis. It will give her some "me" time that I know she will appreciate.

Alida, Oh honey! You may not even want to bother calling the Lenox people about your air-conditioning. The price quote we got from them today was 50% higher than the one we got from Trane. I think that must be the cadillac of air conditioning. I need something more on the Honda civic line. Actually, we want something that is more than a builder grade unit, but the Lenox quote was just too much.

Terry, Where are you today? I hope you are celebrating in a big way. You've probably been trying your new toy out and working to get some perfect pictures.

Everybody say a prayer for Rachel. They need some good vibes after all they have been through this last week.

Ok, it's 9:30. I need to go clean the kitchen then decide it I want to sew some more or go watch a little TV. TIVO has a huge back stock of things I haven't watched yet. Today's project was testing out the new machine on T-Shirts. I had a plain orange T in the closet that I don't wear very often. I stitched out a cute Halloween design on the front and the word BOO! on the back. It turned out very well. Guess it's not quite the right holiday to wear that one though.

Happy Independence Day! I should take the time to decorate that in red, white, and blue. But you get the idea. It's been raining since midnight. We needed the rain so badly, but people who planned 4th of July picnics are probably gnashing their teeth.

Donna, that's a magnificent cat--and obviously knows it.

Judy, as for movies--Lake House has quite a bit of hospital stuff in it (the leading lady's a doctor and there's a death)--and overall it's a heartbreaker (family relationships, etc.) For wickedly fun entertainment for your friend, I'd suggest Prada. As for stuff in the house, I'm trying to decide which books I can part with--and I'll bet you've got a lot of those, too.

The real estate is a vacation lot in Bella Vista, AR. When we bought it, it was bucolic--a golf course, a beautiful clubhouse. Now, it's hugely populated with retirees (that was the intention, after all) and we don't play golf anymore. However, it IS located practically in the backyard of Wal-Mart headquarters, so if these homebuilder people in FLA don't end up buying it, we may be able to sell it locally. It's a hassle, but we're not under any pressure. Thanks for the update on Rachel. Poor baby. Apparently homeless at a very high level.

What to do with a rainy day? I've been chewing away at a Jeffery Deaver novel. With my CRS, reading mysteries is difficult when I only read a few pages at a time. I keep losing the thread. So maybe I should just tear through that in a sitting.

And Peg, I could always have a ton o' fun doing workouts in my exercise room.

I think everyone should do exactly as she pleases today. IT'S A HOLIDAY! (Well, for everybody but Donna--assuming Canada Day is over).

Take care.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!

And guess what??? I got two large envelopes from my insurance company yesterday. In them were about 15 "Explanation of Benefits." THEY PAID MY CLAIMS!!!!!!!!

:jump: :jumpgreen

I spent over two hours this morning going through everything and getting all the papers in order. We still have to pay about $2,100 to various doctors to meet the $4,500 max out of pocket. But hold on to your hat. I tallied up all the charges (before insurance discounts) and it comes to over $134,000!! This is for both the CK and the neck lump operation. Amazing, isn't it?

Can anyone say: "NEW HIP?"

Rachel, if you are reading this at all, my heart goes out to you! You are currently going through one of those hellish Life Experiences that, years from now, will be told with much laughter (I hope)!

I hope you all don't mind if I don't answer everybody today. I am much too excited! Plus, it's already time to get the day going. Not sure what we will do.

Woke up to thunder boomers at 4:30. Glorious, fabulous RAIN! But I do feel sorry for all those who are planning outdoor activities. Maybe this afternoon will turn bright and sunny for them.

Before I forget -- Terry, what was that board that you said discussed some theories about the time travel in "the Lake House?" I loved that movie! (Barb, yup, Keanu is very easy on the eyes, no?)

We watched "The Producers" last night. Just OK for me (a bit too broad), but Bob did not care for it. He really felt the subject matter ("Springtime for Hitler") was no laughing matter. Well, yeah, but if a Jew wrote it to laugh AT Hitler, I can get it.

Again, sorry not to respond to everyone. (Oh, Judy, OK, I'll forget Lenox!) Off to start my HOLIDAY!

Have a wonderful 4th everyone. You too, Donna! XXOO

Hi Gang!

Judy: I can only imagine what it would be like to move after living somewhere for so long!! DH and I moved from the home in which he raised his kids in SoCa 23 years ago when we were first married. DH is a packrat too (though much less as he ages, TTL). They had a full attic there that was accessible by stairs. He had "put it in the attic until I have time to fix it," until the attic was actually just a junk pile. We had a dumpster delivered right under the third floor attic window, and just threw stuff in from three floors up! And, still, we had SO much stuff! But, I was raising my girls then. We've had three moves since then and each one we have pared down a little. We have very little furniture considering what we had, but, it's just the "stuff." I've procrastined so long that I haven't gotten rid of all my craft stuff. Before I went to work two churches ago, I was really into quilting. I have boxes and boxes of fabric. And, then, there is 20 years of cross stitch books and supplies. Sigh. Not to mention all the watercolors, brushes, paper, and things for that hobby. And, then there are the candles, candlesticks, silk flowers.......you get the idea. Yesterday, I cleaned out my desk. I can now (sort of) see the top. I DO envy you that new toy!! I would be spending all my time on it if I were you. Oooooh, I would love to try it out.

Barb: I didn't even mention the books that I have. Yaknow, I never read a fiction book twice, yet I keep them! That is pretty stupid when someone else could enjoy them. I'm thinking of calling the Library and see if they would like the hardback ones. We have a mini library here at the condo, and I have given a lot of my paperbacks there. By the way, I started a Nancy Pickard novel last night. It's called something like "The Virgin of the Plains." It's very very good. I like her writing, though I find it just teeny bit hard to follow. You were right, her writing is peppered with references to Kansas. I would love to know more about the region so I can relate.

Bren: I'm wondering, too, if you have decided on a color. Did you go to the Home Depot site for ideas on lighting? I did. I looked at some chandeliers to replace the one at the top of the stairs. I found this one: http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/HDUS...ngineID=ccedad
difddhkekcgelceffdfgidgkk.0&CNTTYPE=PROD_META&CNTK EY=misc/
searchResults.jsp&MID=9876&N=2984+4233&pos=n12 (Gosh dang it! I don't know how to make a cute little "here" like ya'll do!!) You will have to cut and past this baby. Sorry. I was also wondering about wall sconces in that hall. You could put them on a dimmer if you wanted. Also, wired so they all went on at once. We have small hanging lights along our very dark hall. They were here when we moved in. I like them, so never changed them.I just put really bright lightbulbs in them.

So, Shel: What are you going to do today? I hope that it can be a restful day for you.

Barb: I also hope that today is a restful one for you. If I were you, I would workout my little head off, and then lay down and read a book the rest of the day!

Donna: My gosh, I didn't know there was anywhere on this Continent that got as hot as the Mojave Desert. You certainly qualify!! I grew up on the edge of the Mojave, and we had pretty terrible hot summers. But, we sure as heck didn't do any yard work when it was that hot. I, too, worry about your health in that hot weather. So, answer me this: Are you nuts???

Alida: So, I wonder if you are writing as I am this morning. I always get confused about time differences between all of us. I know that SoCa is three hours behind us, but that's about all. Are you getting a chance to celebrate the fourth with some rest? Other than that crazy watering schedule that you have??

Yes, let's send prayers Rachel's way. She and her dh are soldiering through some very difficult time with their packing and getting ready to move. Doing all that in a foreign country, I don't care how much you know the folks, is just plain hard!! Peace to you, my sister.

Well, gang, I'm going to get going again on cleaning out around here. I have some knick knacks and books to pack from my office. I found a lovely cross stitch picture that says "Friends are Forever" to give to my upstairs neighbor. She is devastated that we are moving. I'm going to miss her so much!!

I'll be back. Yeah, someone tell me again how to disguise a link to another site with a little "here." I know that you did it for me once before, but........you know........CRS.

Peace, Peg

Peg, the easiest way to insert links like that is to use the "Advanced" forum editor.

Look for the "Go Advanced" button just below the input box where you type your post.

After you click it, a different editor opens with additional editing icons - very similar to those in MS Word.

There is a little icon that looks like a globe with a chain link in front. That's your world wide web link.

After you click it, an input box opens where you can type your "here" text (or whatever.

After you type that and hit enter, a new input box opens where you can paste the URL.

Does that help?

Peg, just dropped in. I could not get your link to work. Go to the home depot page with your light fixture. Highlight the WHOLE URL and press the control key along with the letter "C" (copy). then come to LCE, and in advanced mode type the word "here" in your post. Highlight the word "here." Now, see that globe icon with a chain on the second line just below the smiley face? With the word "here" highlighted, click on that globe/chain icon. A window will pop up. It's to attach a URL to the word "here." Notice that http:// is already in the window. It's highlighted. Keep it that way. Just press control V (control key along with the letter V) to PASTE the URL in that window. voila.

Well, how clever of the goldfish to line up for their photo! They are all very handsome.

Alida, I'm so relieved and glad for you to get the worry of insurance off your back. Zowie. What a price tag on health care! What do the poor folks do?? Enjoy your "independence" celebration in a big way!

The clouds cleared off, so I went for a muggy run before eight o'clock. When I got home, before I took shower, I stepped on the scales--just to observe the fact that you can STBO--and lose two pounds in an hour!

Then I called my niece to find out if their neighbors were planning a parade like last year. Not theirs, but Grammie's were, so I joined in the 4th of July celebration in my sister's new neighborhood. As it happens, many of Grammie's (that would be my sister's) neighbors are friends of mine from church, so I didn't feel like a stranger. I'll try to post a picture of the kids, but it will probably be too big. The whole world smells of barbecue!

Now I've "done" 4th of July properly. It's book and/or movie time.

P.S. Upload doesn't want to do it. If I resize these pix, I'll post later.

Ok, Bren. I'm trying the link thingie: here I hope that this works. I'm going to submit this post and see. If not, I'll be back. Well, dang it. It won't let me post the actual link. Go to "interior lighting" on this link and look at the last line 27012, I think. Last line on the left. It's amber colored and would look smashing with yellow walls and your woodwork.

By the way, we watched Transamerica last night on DVR. Excellent movie!!!!! Felicity Huffman is just excellent in this movie. I can't recommend it highly enough. I thought it would have some comedic moments, but not if you understand the tragedy of our transgendered sisters and brothers.

Hi guys,
Well, I kinda diddled the day away, and now T-storms are moving in(yippee-I-ay) so I may have to shut down for a while.
Anyhoo....I did NOT work on the wall paper yesterday...did some other chores and mostly *surfed* around checking out vacation destinations we might consider.

I didn't get an email from Rach...I hope she is doing better. I don't know what is going on, but I'll sure send some good vibes her way

I did have an hour and a half conversation with my DD on the phone last evening. I don't know if I dare utter the words out loud, but she said she is beginning to think about moving from LA!!! She is actually thinking about Dallas or Austin!!! ok....I don't want to jinx anything, so I'll move on to my next thought....

The only other thing I'd like to mention, is I am down 4.5 lbs since really getting serious and restarting July 1st!!! Now, I'm sure it's mostly water and that hateful old carb *bloat*, but it is encouraging nonetheless.
I did start another challenge if anyone is interested...no pressure, but just to let you all know. Labor Day Losers in the challenge forum.

Well....the thunder is really close; I haven't heard any rain falling yet...
Keep your fingers crossed we at least get a good lawn watering outta these clouds!

Hope everyone had a Happy Yankee Doodle Dandy Day!!!

maybe back later....
(((hugs to all!)))

Like Shelley, I am thrilled to get some rain. DS however is not at all happy with the rain. He has to be in San Diego tomorrow morning for a 10:00AM meeting. He was supposed to leave DFW around 5:00. Storms messed him up, flight got cancelled, and he should finally be loading and about to take off. He checked his bags on the cancelled flight and is afraid that they may not get transferred since he was one of the few people that got a ticket on the next flight. Most from the first plane are on standby. So along with monitoring flight information, we have checked out places that are open at 8:00 so that he can get clothes if he has to. The internet is wonderful. We have been able to check all kinds of things and then email/text them to his phone. A message from the airlines to his phone is what got him to the front of the line and on the plane tonight. Gotta love technology.

What else did I do today? Sewed. My neighbor across the street said it had been a long time since she had seen me do anything fun. Yes, I'm enjoying it. I even bought some fabric and patterns to make myself something. We'll see if that gets done...............
