Shelley, that's a great picture of Fu and Danny, and I imagine the memories that go with it are precious and wistful. Don't you wonder what animals say to each other?

TB, I had no idea an impatiens could look like that. Beautiful.

Judy, BEAUTIFUL!!
What a lucky little girl, this Miss Olivia
I am more than impressed with Miss Bear and her duds, and the beautiful cradle linens which honor well the family heirloom cradle. Very touching to see and to think about, Judy.

Judy, your lil' bear just radiates contentment! She's totally precious with her hairbow and calico dress. You have quite the eye for detail, and the cradle bumper is really, really beautiful. I can't believe you did all that in just a couple of days!

Oh, Judy. The awwwwwww is really kicking in here. And the AWE, too. I can't believe you whipped up all these adorable creations so fast. The bear is totally huggable. I can just feel the emanations of Grammie love.

Peg, you're obviously not having that much fun. Water is the worst household disaster. And sneaky, too. Oh well. Anything that can be fixed by throwing money at it is probably survivable.

Teel, the dragonfly photos are lovely--but even more lovely, the gift for creating the setting in a small space where you can enjoy beauty every day. Hope the new camera brings you fresh delight. Us, too!

DH was feelin' poorly yesterday. He thought it might be the flu, but I strongly suspect that it was "cancel my dentist appointment" flu. If he rallies for his regular Friday lunch with the guys today, I win. (But we won't be harping on that, will we?) In view of our upcoming long trip into the unknown, I worry a lot about his intolerance for stress. We'll be taking along a big supply of sedatives.

While I was mindlessly watching tv last night, I caught that "So you think you can dance" show for the first time. I think it would be more fun without the coy "judging." But I guess the reality show crowd likes that part the best. Then I watched an episode of Grey's Anatomy--also a new one to me. (The things I do when DH isn't sitting in front of the tv with me!) It seemed about as far as possible from reality, even for a tv drama. I guess I'll just stick to Law&Order reruns and Without a Trace.

I need a new goal in life besides making it to Saturday.

Alida, it looks like several of us want you to design an alternative to that firepup-with-a-hose logo. But for that, you should negotiate a separate "creative contract" with the company. Ad agencies get big bucks for "branding" activities.

Happy Friday everyone. Back later.

Good morning!

Gosh, everyone, I am sooo not used to being rushed in the morning! I got up late today and now have to hurry.

Peg, oh no! Not another leak! At least this one is easy to fix. Will you have to re-paint the ceiling? We have a garbage disposal that is leaking. At least it's leaking into a plastic hold-all I have under the sink. Whew. Needs replacing and it's only four years old!

Judy, you amaze me! That bear is soooo CUTE! And the crib "fittings" are absolutely beautiful! You are truly an artist with your needle (and sewing machine)!

Brenda, your comment to Peg about fixing pipes got an out-loud laugh from me! Shed finished yet?

Shelley, what a wonderful picture of Fu Kitty and Danny! I did not know you had a dog, too. I love seeing interactions between dogs and cats. It's amazing how they do get along and can even become friends.

Good going at Kohl's! I can't believe you actually have started some Christmas shopping! Furthest thing from my mind right now. Remind me in November!

Yes, Shelley, Firehouse Window Cleaning, Inc. is the official name of the company. Soon to be Firehouse Window Tinting and Cleaning, Inc.

Barb, that Firehouse Dog is a problem. Thing is, owners LOVE it. Think it's CUTE. Aaarrgghhh. At least that dog isn't holding the hose a little lower!

I do hope your DH is better today, and it's NOT a summer cold.

Didn't like Grey's Anatomy? Maybe you need to have seen it from the beginning .... And while I like the dancing show, the "hostess" annoys me. And they really drag everything out. OK. Get on with the dancing!

Know what you mean about giving stuff to people and then they ignore it. I still haven't received my original copy of Atkins back from my sister. And that was almost two years ago. Yup. She ignored it.

Terry, your dragonfly pictures are stunning. The macro quality is amazing. (CRS -- is that the right word for "close-up?")

OK. I must have missed the impatiens picture. Where is that?

Donna, you know, I don't mean to always answer you next to last! I have a little cheat sheet posted on my computer with everyone's name, written way back when I started here. And the order of the names was just from the post order at that time!

Your poor flowers! Would a soaker hose help? Buy a bunch, wind the hoses around the flowers and then turn the faucet on low in the AM. If you did that, you may not have to water everyday.

Were those Blueberry muffins you made LC? If so, I know we all would love the recipe! Speaking of muffins, time to buy some zucchini!

And those extra LBs? Probably water. It's so hot and humid your body may be soaking it up, especially if you're not drinking your usual. Aggravating, isn't it?

And our Rachel! Maybe back to usual next week? After the Georgian Horror, I'll bet Armenia is looking really good.

Got to run! Love you all!

See, you guys laughed when I did everyone in alphabetical order............. It's the only way I can keep from missing someone. I'm glad I'm not the only one that has to cheat.

Off to Curves. I'll see if my shoulder can make it today. I think I must have bone spurs or I tore something back in June. It's not getting better. Foolishly, I'm sure, I'll wait a while longer to go to the doctor. Air conditioning is tops on DH's spending right now. I hate to tell him that I need to go to both the doctor and the dentist just yet.

Back later............

Hi Gang!

I woke this morning with aches and pains. Da**!!!! I just can't afford the time to take pain pills and rest. Our open house is less than a week away!! There actually isn't too much left to do other than the normal "housecleaning" stuff. Stanley Steemer comes on Monday, so I have to get everything up off the floor, including out from under the beds (my favorite hiding place). It's almost noon here and our handyman just showed up! He's tiling the wall over and around the acrylic shower in the bathroom off the master bedroom. NOW he tells me that it is a two day process and he can't come back until Wednesday. Da**. I started sorting out my shoes so my closet will look like a person who actually only has enough shoes to fill her closet. I, of course, has two million pairs of shoes (what girl doesn't need a pair of shoes for EVERY outfit??) I'm going to put the ones I don't wear ALL the time in a box and hide it somewhere.

Okay, Judy: OHMIGAWD! Darlin' that teddy lovey is wonderful. I don't know if you remember the wardrobe I made for my dgd a couple of years ago for her American Girl doll? It was so much fun doing that. I gave it to her for Christmas that year along with a little doll trunk to carry them in. She was thrilled. Also, that cradle and it's pad and rufle are just elegant and precious. I agree with Brenda, Olivia is going to be so glad for her Grandma. What will she call you? I'm Nana to my dgkids. The oldest named me, and it just stuck. I love it. The oldest is now 13 and calls me "Stylin' Nana" because of how I look. :gorgeous: Ha!

Brenda: Now, how did I know that you would be the one who would pick up on what I said about the Plumber???? Hmmmmm. I must be psychic! He was actually interested in the condo. But, then he said that he had kids and I didn't want to show it to him. We don't have any kids in this end of the complex, and we ALL like it that way. But, then, there IS that fact that we want to sell it. I'm glad that I really don't have anything to do with who buys it.

By the way, this is DH's week to cook. Yay! I'm FREE. I do love creating things that he likes in the kitchen for dinner. But, you know, it is the 4:00 to 6:00 time that is SO hard for me. Do you find that to be true, or is it just me? For me, I think it is a hang over from the kids coming home from school and the activity that used to happen at that time. It's so d*mn quiet here! Stupid, I know.

Donna: I agree with Alida about the blueberry muffin recipe. Please post it. Blueberries are just beginning to come in here. The Maine wild blueberries are so sweet and yummy. We just wait for them. My handyman is going to Maine for the weekend, and I just asked him to bring me three pints. Yay!

Alida: You sound TOO busy, my dear. Thanks so much for continuing to keep us up on everyone. Actually the ceiling in the basement is a dropped ceiling with ceiling tiles. So, we can actually spray paint over the spot on the tile. DH has it done.

Terry: I, too, am amazed at the quality you get with your pictures. I have a fancy Canon digital. DH has a little tiny Canon that gets good pictures. I am going to play around with my software and see if I can get something that looks better.

Barb: You sound a little down today, my dear. I assure you that there are things to look forward to other than Friday! But, I do know what you mean. There are plenty of times when I am working that I look forward to Thursday, because my days off are Friday and Monday. I vote for you doing your exercise and then relaxing with a good book. I am finishing one right now called "gods in Alabama." It was on the "new authors" shelf at Barnes and Noble. It is a fast read with a great premise. The main character is a real character. She believes that when she was in high school in Alabama, she has killed a guy who raped her cousin (with whom she lived). She has lived 14 years in Chicago and is now in love with, and planning to marry a black man. She has made a bargain with God that if God never allows the body to be found, she will do several things, including never going back to her hometown in Alabama. Well, you can imagine what happens. The writer is incredible in her theology. The main character and her fiance are American Baptist (which is what my DH is) and there are a lot of comparisons that I just love. She, the writer, (sorry, I can't remember her name. CRSI) is also hilarious in her descriptions of people in the South. I think you would like the book.

Shelley: I hope that this day is a good one for you, darlin'. Has it been a good week overall?

Rach: I know that you are coming back soon. I can't wait!

Love you all!
Peace, Peg

TGIF...yes. You'd never know this was a short week with the way I've been flying around here.

Terry: Yes, please. I'd love some Balfour's Impatient seeds. That would be so sweet of you to send me some. Still have my address? Is there anything that I could send to you?

Judy: The bear and the bumper pads are gorgeous. As is the cradle. Brings back memories to see it all set up like that. Olivia is going to be one "lucky lady".

Alida: Sorry to disappoint you but the lc blueberry muffins were from an Atkins mix that I had in the freezer. It got buried in there and I just found it and figured I should make it up before it wasn't any good. I might have a recipe in my files though...I'll have a look for you.

Shelley: Know what I did last night cause of you? I grabbed a bottle of water, left my dogs at home, and went for a really long walk. Now my dogs don't like you....lol
Just kidding. I took them for a walk after it cooled down, so they were happy. I'd forgotten how good it feels to just walk at a good pace and not have to stop every 10 feet for them to have another pee. I'm pretty sure I'll be making this a nightly thing.

Barb: Any skating plans for this weekend? That would be a great way to cool down, but our rink is closed for the summer. Too expensive to keep it running in the heat. Hockey players aren't happy.

Brenda: You are quick aren't you? Loved the comment about the plumber. I'd love to see you in action trading quips with my dh. He's pretty fast at it too, and has a great sense of humour.

Peg: Sorry about the water leak. I know you'll be glad when this is all overwith. If real estate is moving like it is in BC your place will be sold in no time. My friend put her house on the market and sold it in 20 minutes. Real estate people here are crying for houses to sell.

Rachel: We're waiting patiently for your return. Sorry you're going through such trying times.

Looks like tomorrow we will be taking a run to town for some shopping. Two birthdays and a wedding coming up later this month and I hate to wait until the last minute. Also, want to hit Costco and Michael's (that should please dh lol) So, it will mean getting up early to try and beat the heat. Hmmmm, with the malls being air conditioned, maybe dh will want to stay a little longer in them?

Have a great weekend everyone.

Oh, that wasn't a link to my picture, I linked to a gardening website that talked about Balfour's Touch-Me-Not

Judy, when you talk about spending for AC vs medical care... am I to understand that the school doesn't provide a very much medical insurance?

You know, Donna, Alida might have something there about the soaker hoses. And, if you set them to go on a timer, that could really cut the time you have spend watering the flower beds in the summer. In your climate, you'd probably want to bring soakers into the garage or basement for storage in the winter. The prev. owners here put much of the garden on a drip system. It works pretty well. In the summer, it's set to go off automatically each morning for a set time. I only have to water the potted plants. I don't like drip systems for potted plants because the little hoses always look so ugly hanging around the pots. But, in the soil, the hoses can be well hidden with a little bark mulch.

I missed a really fun photo (didn't have the camera out). A fledgling bird (robin? cowbird?) was sitting on the fence squawking his little heart out with his beak wide open. Crying for mommy or daddy I guess. A tiny junco jumped up and started putting food in his mouth! The "baby" towered over junco!

Brenda, you were so right about the Canon manuals - they suck big time! As technical writer, I can simply say.... they ought to be ashamed! The only manuals I've seen that were worse came from the overseas Indian subcontractor DHL hired to take over its billing software development (catty, catty!). Charski suggested finding an online user forum, which is a really good idea.

I'm short of time this morning as I need to go to the doctor appointment (the one I went to last week by mistake). I'll see if the doctor has any thoughts about the leg jerks - and what he thinks of the Irish Spring cure!

It's afternoon. And yes, Peg, you caught me out. I was feeling a little downish this morning, probably because I woke up at 3:30 worrying about bookings for the trip in October, and other things that couldn't possibly be solved at that moment. Also because DH was feeling puny, and I was feeling worried/irritated about that. Compared to, say, starving Armenians--or even moving to Armenia!--these are NOT real problems. I did a little retail therapy at lunchtime, and I'm fine now.

In fact, I spotted a little shirt at Halls (the upscale dept. store adjacent to my office, owned by guess who) for half price (less my employee discount after that). So I put it on in the dressing room, and had the clerk cut off the tags. I'm wearing it. Instant gratification. I can usually make myself very happy for about eight bucks. This was a little more, but not much.

I didn't sleep with the soap last night. Maybe it works for insomnia, too?

Tonight is "Reel to Real" movie and discussion with a group from church. We're going to see An Inconvenient Truth. Tomorrow...open house at stepson and dil's new place. I don't skate every weekend in summer because it gets a little pricey--especially in comparison to skating for free in winter. Running is also free--and very convenient. I like to do that early in the morning. Sunrise is my favorite time of day. Wouldn't you have guessed?

I should probably get to work on my mid-year report. The boss will be pleased if all she has to do is cut and paste my paragraphs.

See ya'll later.

Hi gang,
Finally a chance to sit down, unwind and have a chat with my gal-pals
It seems once I got started with my day, one thing led to another, yanno?
I ended up helping DH with some yard work so he wouldn't have to do it all by himself. I was sweaty and dirty from my walk & run this morning, so I didn't really mind helping out. I got to use DH's new Honda mower...not bad at all!
Then I did a couple of loads of laundry, and *poof* it was time to go on our dinner date

Anyhoo....

Judy....you did good! OMG...everything is TOTALLY adorable...the bear and the cradle ensemble. You might have a future with this sewing stuff...at least til Olivia is old enough to start wanting *store bought* clothes. hehe.
Great job!

Bren...you must have had a BIG day too, eh? Didja paint? Looking forward to hearing about your day!

Alida...Hope you get to slow down some over the weekend...and chat with us at a more leisurely pace. I, to, hate being rushed when I'm chatting here.
I see now about the Firehouse name. Again, I would try and keep it simple that folks would remember. When I look a business up on the net, I type in the name first if I'm not sure about it. But usually I've heard a radio or TV spot and for some reason, the simpler it is, the longer I remember it...LOL.
Yeah...go ahead and say it...it has something to do with CRS...LOL!

Peg...Sorry to hear about those aggrevating aches and pains. Do you think it's the FM flaring up or just sore from so much cleaning? Are you due for another massage anytime soon? Perhaps you could get in sooner rather than later and get massaged. Hope you feel better soon!

Barb...
Quote:

Girl...I hear you loud and clear! WTG!!! I'm sooooo glad someone else thinks like I do. Now if I could just get past the *food therapy* thing, and stick strictly to *retail therapy*, I'd have it made...broke, but made! te-he!

Teel...waiting to hear how your Dr visit went(if you want to share that is). Curious to hear the Dr's take on those leg jerks you've been having.
Is this Dr a naturopath? We only have 1 NP here in the metro area that I know of. I would think there would be more, but there doesn't seem to be.
Hope you got a good report

Donna...hey girl...you made it to Friday....YAY!!! It sounds like you'll be doing some *retail therapy* this week end also...GO FOR IT!!!! I would've done more myself yesterday, but just couldn't get into it for some reason. I kept having a niggling little thought in my head that my DD and DGS might have different needs and wants by Christmas time, so I think that is why I held off. Plus the fact my little Isaijah is growing like a weed, and what I buy now could possibly NOT fit by December!

Rach...thinking of you! Hope you get some R&R before your next job gets underway. You DESERVE it!! Sending you...good...good...good...good vibrations...(think Beach Boys here)

I had to stop taking my anti-inflamatory 1 week prior to my endoscopies. So, I've been off since Tuesday, and boy my back and elbow joints are telling me about it!...aarrgghh! ES Tylenol ain't cuttin' it! Oh well...what doesn't kill us will make us stronger, right? I can do this!
Off to fold some more laundry...will it ever end???? And yes, I am remembering I am lucky to be able to do this domestic chore in my house and not visit a laundrymat...but I'd still like to grumble just a wee little bit....

Later, chickadees!
(((hugs)))

Alida - Are you building a new web page, or just designing the logo? The old logo is cute, but certainly not very sophisticated. It reminds me of "young" art --- stuff kids do while developing their skills. I don't think I ever congratulated you earlier in the week for the success on your insurance coverage. I know that was an immense relief.

Barb- I noticed the very uncharacteristic comment from you this morning. Worry gets to all of us sometimes. Hey, but, retail therapy is the greatest! An $8.00 find is always good for me, too. I'm all about bargains. I love that you cut the tags off and wore the new top for the remainder of the day.

Brenda- Did you get rid of your dad's extra stuff? Earlier last month, we had a garage sale at DS's to try to get rid of all the extra stuff from Daddy's apartment. Dallas is not a prime garage sale location. We sold lots of junk, but little to no furniture. I was really surprised. If that garage sale had been here, we would have sold out of the furniture before noon. In the little town where I grew up, we totally cleaned up when we reduced Daddy's stuff from the big house.

Donna - Made it to Friday! Happy retail therapy to you for the weekend. I don't know how it is in Canada right now, but we are really getting into clearance season here. I should go out and cruise the sales, however, I just haven't gotten in the mood to do it yet.

Peg - Another water leak........ARGH!! Do you have to disclose that on the real estate stuff. I'm afraid that that condo has some issues. We had some ceiling leaks in the kitchen earlier this year. I was afraid that we were going to have to get a new roof. But, I guess it was just a one time deal. It has rained and the leak hasn't happened again.

Rachel - Looking forward to hearing from you once you are settled in Armenia.

Shelley - I'm impressed that you got out and helped with the yard work. I hate to do it, and I don't think DH would trust me anyway. He is picky picky. This year he has worked really hard to try to get some new grass growing. After we had the trees trimmed, we can finally get enough sun to keep it alive again.

Terry - I'm amazed at your pictures. The dragon fly was beautiful. You certainly have a photographer's eye.

I was an absolute slug today. I did not do anything at all that could be counted as productive work. I feel guilty. Seriously, I feel like I ought to get up and go do something right now. It's like I only have so many "vacation" days and I should make the most of them. I never feel like I have enough time to waste time............can you say Type A???

Terry to answer your question about insurance...... yes, we do have a PPO type insurance. An office is relatively inexpensive. Anything that they can do while I am there for that visit is usually covered decently. It's all the extra visits, and treatments that I am afraid will start to add up. I just keep hoping that the issue will go away. For years, I have gone to the doctor one time a year --- for the regular gyn checkup, mammo, blood work, etc. I do it all on one day so that it is all covered under the same co-pay. The insurance pays for one "well woman check per year as well as one mammo. I am never sick. I haven't been to the doctor for any reason than a gyn checkup in so long that my GP doesn't realize that I am even still a patient. Then there's the dental insurance. I've paid it for years and haven't used it in years. It's something like 50/50. I'm afraid that I need some mega work where my bottom front teeth have ground against an upper bridge. They are getting sensitive, so I know they are getting down to the nerve. I hope they can fix them with some kind of bonding, but I'm afraid that it will end up being caps --- 5 or 6 caps at app. $1000 each X .50 + the cost of new air conditioning = more that I have to spend. I'm also afraid that they are going to tell me I need gum surgery. Reference above --- I'm not very good at being a patient. Realistically, what I should do is go use the dental insurance to the limit every year for the next few so that I will have all dental problems fixed before I think about ever retiring.

Babes, I am so sorry to be so bad at posting the last few days. I've been in one of those "no sleep" cycles and by the time I'm awake, then functional, half of the day is gone and I'm behind the 8-ball. Last night I fell asleep finally about the time DH was getting up (5am). Consider that I do everything so deliberately (read "slowly), even posting, it's rather amazing I accomplish anything. Nope, not worrying about anything; my sleep cycle is just totally whacked as if I had jet lag.

Barb, sympathies on the worries and lack of sleep (see above). Retail therapy, yup a bargain is a nice cheap fix I LOVE the buy it and wear it--no buyer's remorse for you! Your comment about having a goal other than reaching Saturday saddened me, though. I know it was the particular mindset after a less than stellar night, but I've got to say tangentally to your comment that IMO "goals" and our fierce assertion of their necessity and fear if they are lacking or unworthy might be examined as a cultural phenomena and a mostly male one at that. I'd posit (speaking in generalities) that while men seem to need goals, women derive their highest sense of satisfaction and purpose relationally, which is more circular than direct. We've taken on the goal obsession at the time as we've taken on the mantle of equality, but not examining whether it fits our true nature. Women working together need a new paradigm. .......as you said earlier in the thread, down from my soapbox

Alida, you sweetie, even though you were in a rush, you gave us the gift of your heartfelt post.

Donna, I'm so awed that in your climate you do so much to maintain your beautiful garden against the odds. Beauty surrounding you is such a reward, I know. And yup, I vote for soaker hoses. The ones I have are made of recycled tires (I think). We laid them in "waves" in most of the beds and keep covered with mulch, except for the end connection. I don't take them up in the winter, though--they're permanent installations.

Alida, Shelley, you asked if the shed/painting was finished....LOL, see the first paragraph. It's primed, but I spent the afternoon working in the yard like you did, Shell. Perhaps I will usurp the title of Queen of Procrastination from Peg or Judy. Shell, aren't those Honda's a dream mower? Well, I mean it's still a lawnmower, but hey....

Peg, that book sounds right up my alley, too. Gods in Alabama? Will have to look for it. And yes, 4 to 6 is not my best time of day. Not because of children coming home (or missing that), but because of years of two overstressed people (DH and I) coming home at the same time and neither being good at decompression. With my current work habits, it always seems as though I'm right in the middle of some good project when DH comes home now, and I have to shift gears. But hey, 1) he comes home and 2) only one of us is overstressed now

Peg and Shelley, ouch on the aches and pains. Pretty darn rotten. Now I know Peg is really tired of my plugging yoga, but truthfully just after two classes, I've noticed that I haven't been getting up in the middle of every night to take Aleve. I've also relocated several new muscles, LOL! The good kind of pain, ya know.

TB, your drip system sounds wonderful. I think in California perhaps plants live consistently enough to make a drip system beneficial? Maybe I'm an unlucky gardener, but here in the MW, there's hardly a year when several things don't die so it seems the plantings are in a continual state of re-arrangement.

Oh joy that you have your camera! Pic-chas, Pic-chas! I think dpreview also has a user's forum--I feel relieved you think the manuals are bad, too--I was hoping it wasn't just moi.

Judy, we haven't gotten rid of the furniture yet, but Catholic Charities was thrilled to be called. They match up people with furniture to people who need furniture. The ones "needing" though, have to make their own arrangements to pick up from the giver. The gal said it might take a couple of weeks to make the connections and for the arrangements for pickup to be made, but she felt sure she had any number of people who would could benefit.

I do so understand your medical/dental predicament. DH maxed out his dental several years in a row about a decade ago getting caught up with crowns. (Now he needs an implant so the dentist and oral surgeon say and the co-pay makes us gasp. ) However, I'll bet your dentist would be very willing to help you prioritize your needs and spread the work out within your plan limits for a few years. It's not something to look forward to, I know. And about the doctor, hey, we're allowed to worry about you, ya know?

You know, Judy, I'm NOT a type A, but I still feel guilty when I'm not doing anything. There's no winning, is there....

Rach, dearest, thinking of you, as always.

Nite, girlfriends....
