| Am I first?? And I even remembered what day it is! Welcome to a new month, and happy holiday weekend everyone. When Shelley gets here, she can lock up June. Of course, starting a new thread, I don't have convenient access to the history. Never mind. I'll do my best. Donna, lovely garden shots. But stay as cool as you can! Judy, safe travels. I'm so impressed with the embroidery. Pack rat, perfectionist, super-teacher, all around caring person...all those lovely qualities do add up. Alida? You there? Hope you're not imploding from all the recent stresses on your schedule. Don't let me put you off seeing "Prada." It's very entertaining. to everyone else. I'm off to mega-workouts this morning--weights followed by step class. Always fun. I'm thinking today's the day I should go up a tad on wt.--but I don't want to go up as much as 5 lbs, the next increment available at the gym, so I may take my 1 1/4 plates with me and see if they fit the bar. After that...well, I've got four days to entertain myself, or clean something. Guess which choice is most likely? ![]() |

| Hi Gang! Happy July 1st!! I'm glad you remembered Barb! I would have just gone ahead and posted in June! Thanks. Alida: I'm so glad you posted. I worried about you all day. You are so faithful to this thread that I was imagining all kinds of terrible things. Don't worry, though, that is just my own paranoia about people I love. Judy: Do come back and let us know how the funeral was for you and for others. It is a terrible day for the parents and grandparents, I know. But, from experience, I can tell you that they are probably still in shock. It takes a little while for the heart to know what the head already knows. The hard part will come several weeks from now. Barb: I laugh every time that you describe your exercise as "fun." Then I shake my head because I just don't understand that. Bren, Donna, Terry, Shel, I hope that today is a great day for you. It is a glorious day for us here by the water. While I was gazing out the windows this morning from my red chair, I saw a fox amble across our lawn. What a beautiful sight! We are supposed to get into the 90's today. And it is dry for a change. I have computer stuff to do, so I will be back. Peace, Peg |

| For those of you choosing coordinating paint colors here's a gizmo that might help: http://www.benjaminmoore.com/wrapper...arch&art=2.1.7 I saw a demo on TV where the homeowners exactly matched a color from a paisely cushion and existing exterior paint - thought it looked pretty cool. But, it's kind of expensive, so maybe the Benjamin Moore stores have units to lend. Shelley - patriotic toes and nails - Whhoo Hooo! Sounds very pretty... Maybe you can find a toe ring that's a blue star? Wouldn't that be fun for the 4th? I tried taking pictures of the yard, but haven't hit a time of day with good lighting yet - the strong sunlight washes out the colors or darkens out the shadows. I can fix that kind of thing in Photoshop, but it never comes out as nice as a photo shot in good lighting. But, if I take the pictures when the yard is shaded, some of the flowers are still closed up. I'll fool around some more today. I think I'm going to ask for a new digital camera for an early birthday present. It will be my 3rd digital. The one I have now was very ultra at the time (cost over $900 back in the late 1990s). It's huge; a dinosaur! Worst of all - it's not intuitive to change the settings for lighting conditions. Barb, how are you liking your new digital camera? What kind did you get? Anyone else want to pitch or pan their cameras - tell me the pros and cons? Peg, I'm glad you are finally having a spell of nice weather - you were overdue for some sun. I would have loved to be sitting next to you to see the fox - pretty cool! I've never seen a fox in the wild. They must be uncommon here. I did see a bear in the woods in Wisconsin, once. :bear: He wasn't sh*tting, though ![]() Gotta toodle! Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.

| Morning ladies. I had forgotten it was a new thread today...duh. I know...I'm not usually posting on a Saturday, but dd phoned this morning and my Trading Spaces was disturbed so I figured it would be a good time to get caught up here. Glad you all enjoyed the pictures of the yard. That's just a tiny little bit of the flowers that I have. I had such a time trying to get those ones posted that I didn't do anymore. Maybe later. Yes, Alida, I still have the black lily, but it hasn't bloomed yet. So close those. And the little one that was laying on the lawn was Sora, Brenda. She's right by my side everywhere I go. I was sure I would have lost more weight today. Yesterday was just a salad day. Salad for lunch, salad for dinner. I'm sure I'm going to turn green. Dh got home before me so he made a huge salad for dinner, which wasn't what I was hoping for, but I sure didn't say anything. If he wants to cook, I'd never be stupid enough to complain. Anyway, I was up 1/2 pound today which is probably water. No biggie! Alida: So good to hear from you. Don't you go scaring us like that! It's your fault for always posting so early. lol Barb: Don't overdo on the weights, but then I bet you know that. I just can't see myself getting up early to exercise. Good for you. Peg: A fox? Oh, that would be beautiful. There used to be one that crossed the road by our hospital every night on his wanderings. I used to look forward to seeing him. But, someone said he was hit by a car and we never saw another. I've seen a lot of deer, moose, and even a bear in the field by where I work. Maybe someday the fox will come back too. That's the nice part about living in the country...the wildlife. Except the coyotes....they take away too many small animals. Shelley: Woohoo...patriotic red! That will make people stand up and take notice. I just got rid of the red on my toes and exchanged it for a purply pink. Depends on my mood what colour I decide on. Enjoy your well deserved time off. Terry: When you decide on a camera could you let me know what it is? We also have a digital but I bought it for dh when they first came out ( like you around $800 ). I'd love a camera that I could take faster shots...like one right after another. I miss a lot of pictures waiting for the camera to catch up. I just got the pictures back of the grandkids on the rides at the fair and a lot of them the picture that shows is right after the ride moved on. Frustrating! Judy: I think this is the day you go to Waco, no? Drive carefully. Wish you were going for something nicer than a funeral. Well, ladies this dirty house is calling me. I have a white rug under the coffee table that I'm going to try and take outside and clean. I don't want to use the steam cleaner on the rug with the laminate under it, so I'm thinking if I take it out to the patio and try it there it might work. If it doesn't...then I serves me right for buying a white rug when I have pets. Next time, I should look for black!! Why is it that dogs won't take there treats to anywhere that isn't carpeted? Anyway, lots to do today...no such thing as a holiday for a woman is there?

| JUDE, oh man.. all that traveling... yes, horrible indeed with all they have been through! my sister lived in tyler (yes! i remember you lived near there!) when it happened... i had to fly there when michael died.. the flight was awful.. i felt bad for bawling next to a person who had no clue what was wrong... and i didnt trust myself enough to even utter the words at that point..:( odd... after 20 some years, just the WORD SIDS brings back that flood of memories... my sister walked around in circles at a store ..looking for a black dress... we couldnt seem to even say what was wrong so that the clerk could help us.. the baby.. his little tiny finger had a piece of hair wrapped gently around his finger..(he always twirled our hair when we fed him) the sound of my macho man brother in law that sounded like a wounded animal when he returned from the morturary after making arrangements.. no.. no it wont be okay for them for a long long time jude..i am so glad that they have people like you to help them cope.. BREN, my sister passed away a few months ago... one of the last things i told her... (they say sometimes they can hear you even tho they cant speak or seem to hear) was that SHE must go to see her two babies now... and I would stay and take care of the two kiddos she was leaving...(22 and 37) it makes me cry to even type the words.. |

| Donnal, that's a ~lot~ of yard to take care of, but it is so beautiful. Well worth all of your hard work. Considering how short the growing season is there, the flowers are HUGE! Must be those long Canadian summer days. Are those Shasta daisies? Okay, I tried a few patio pics today and got some that are workable. I'll try to get pictures of the patio lights tonight, if I remember. ![]() ![]()

| I'm ba-a-a-ck. We had a sub this morning for weights class, and it was a whole different thing! She obviously knew what she was doing though, and I got a good workout. The Step instructor (probably another sub) didn't show up, so I came on home and did a half-hour on my rebounder (mini-trampoline) with a disco music tape. Today's the day to do maintenance on the hot tub, so I did that, and sat in it for a half-hour. Ahhhhh. We bought the hot tub a decade ago. The fitness center I was a member of had one, and it was the greatest reward for working out. So when the fitness place closed, we decided to get our own. It's just another household appliance that needs regular attention, and I don't really use it that often anymore. My camera is a Nikon Coolpix L3--about $250, with a large-size memory card add-on. It's pretty simple to operate, and it does more stuff than I can ever imagine doing. It will take fast, sequential action pictures, and movies. I have trouble interpreting the written instructions, but I'm learning little by little, following the onscreen cues. I've downloaded pix into my computer, and printed pix at Walgreens off the memory card. That's very easy. The best thing about digital is you can take all the pictures you want and not waste money on film developing. Just zap the bad ones, download the good ones, print only the ones you want to use for a scrapbook or album. Tootsies? Mine are painted gold. Gold actually works as a neutral. I'm a do-it-yourselfer with the mani-pedi thing. My fingernails just don't do well with polish, so I keep them short and plain. Time to fold laundry. Yes...I occasionally make myself useful around the house. P. S. Oh! Beautiful garden pictures just popped up! What a lovely place. And Kim--I'm so sorry for your loss. Thanks for stopping by. |

| Hi guys! Wow. lots of pics and lots of conversation...yipee! I love it! Donna and Teel...the garden pics are super! You both put me to ashame for sure Bren...hope you get that foggy fuzz all cleared outta your brain...LOL. I do know how you feel...and this morning it took 2 large mugs of coffee to get me jump started. I probably coulda gone for a 3rd mug, but didn't have time. Oh well...always Sunday morning to enjoy all the coffee I want. Peg, Congrats on your upcoming travels! Yep...color me jealous too! What a neat gift you and your sweetie will share. I agree...great incentive to ditch those last few pounds. You can do it! Barb...hope you had a good workout this morning. Sounds like it was gonna be a good one! I skipped my walk this morning...see the above comment re: foggy brain syndrome I am starting over...yet again. Alida...I bet you were a knock out in your bikini days! You're just so darn cute now, my dear, you could still wear one...and I'm not kidding!!! I'm just thankful if I don't have to even put on a swimsuit. Yet another reason I choose to vacation in the mountains and wear flannel shirts and jeans...LOL! Judy...gosh...I know you will not have a fun day today. Wishing you a safe trip and some relaxing time the rest of the holiday weekend. Olivia's diaper pants are precious. I can tell this is gonna be one dressed up baby girl OK......on the way home from getting my *mani-pedi*, there was a guy set up in a church parking lot selling fresh Colorado sweet cherries. Well.......you know what I'm going to say, don't you? My little car just wheeled right in there and 5 pounds of those babies came home with me...LOL. Now, I'm off to see about freezing some of them for later on in the summer. Oh...and I'm attaching a pic of the little beauties...man are they juicy and good! I've already had my allotment for the day even though I should not have had any seeing as I am doing induction again for a week. Oh well, it could be worse I guess. I'll probably be back later. (((hugs))) Shell

| Ohmigosh! Shelley, I could just eat one of those cherries right off the page! Terry: Your garden looks a lot different in July than it did in November! Wow! It is beautiful! Same for you, Ms. Donna! Today has been a "reading" day for me. After I did the budget on the computer, and two loads of wash, I sat down to read the new Jaquelyn Mitchard novel, A Cage of Stars. It is tragic in it's subject matter, but interesting in its glimpse into the Mormon life. I grew up in a Mormon town. They always seemd very mysterious. However, this book does a lot to demystify them. If Mitchard weren't such a good writer, I would have put it down. But, I can't seem to do that. I just keep reading. I guess I'm in my literature period. I usually read trashy detective or mystery novels. But, the last two I've read have been different subject matter with close, very descriptive language. I do love the "turn of a phrase." Be back later. I'ts my night to cook and dh wants to go out on the boat before I start dinner. I forgot to say that I have also slept away a good part of the afternoon too! Peg |

| Kim, I do remember when you lost your sister (((hugs))) TB, just gorgeous, love the variety in your garden. You've done beautiful work there just as Donna has. I do want to see the lights! As far as cameras go, I love my Canon PowerShot Pro1. It's 8 megapixels with all the feature any sane person would ever need--but works beautifully and simply in automatic. 7X zoom, great macro, and an excellent quality lens (2.4) www.dpreview.com is a great place for reviews and comparisons. Mine is two years old, so I'm not sure if the same thing is available now. The "con" is that the manual is huge and ill-written. It's all there, but not fun to find or figure out. Playing around with the camera is easier. I'll check out that site you mentioned, TB Shell, speaking of pictures, YUMMMMMM! on those cherries! That shot makes my mouth water! And girl, I don't wear a swimsuit, either. Haven't put one on in probably 30 years. Love that flannel, LOL! You've also reminded me I need to treat myself to a pedi, Shell. I don't want to go to yoga next week with chipped tootsies :o Gold, Barb? That's cool! When I try to give myself a pedi, I usually paint more of my toes than my nails. Glad you have better aim than I do! Barb, back in the day I used to work up in weights by adding those stretchy wrist weights. I had a 1 pound and a two pound set, so separately and/or together they pretty much bridged the gap. Peg, sounds like a PERFECT day for reading and relaxing. Interesting book. I may look for that one. Busy day, but supper is beckoning. Off for now!

| Brenda, thanks. I can see the Canon Pro1 is a wonderful camera with lots of exciting feature - more that I can grasp! I'm hoping for a pocket model this time. I like the size of Barb's Nikon Coolpix L3; it looks like you can comfortably slip it into a purse or pocket. I realize the smaller size cameras are going to have limitations in terms of photo quality and features (emphasized by the sales man in the camera store today). As it is, my bigger camera sits a home a lot of times because I don't feel like lugging it around. I'm finding the info at dpreview to be ~very~ helpful. DH is currently keen on on the Canon SD700IS, and I admit I like its image stablization feature (having "wiggly" hands). The stabilizer means the images should be less fuzzy, especially zoom shots. I gather that's uncommon in these smaller cameras. Gosh, Shelley - wha'd you DO to me???!!! You know I'm a crazy woman when it comes to cherries! I almost ate my monitor after seeing your picture. I'm still tempted to go back to the pic and lick it!
