Hi Gang!

Wow, Barb, when you said Wednesday I had to check my calendar! I can't believe it either. When you are a lady of leisure, like me, it's easy to lose track of the days. So, happy hump day everyone!

Judy: kudos to you for stopping by the "pool" yesterday! I love reading about your teaching adventures, not to mention your other adventures.

Well, today is another day of "weeding" stuff out of my office. Yesterday I did two desk drawers. Why is it that I have acquired 10 dozen pens and pencils? Does ANY person need more than two? Well, I didn't throw them away, I just straightened them up. I began to get a sore throat last night and woke up this morning with the beginnings of a cold. This, thanks to my 1 year old dgd, with whom I babysat on Saturday night. She was hysterical when her Mom left. And, I, being the wonderful grandma that I am, couldn't settle her for anything. After an hour of her poor crying, I called her Mom on the cell. She came back (it was only across the street from the Hotel we stayed in) and nursed her to sleep. She also put my 3 year old dgs to sleep, and I went to bed too. All went well after that. I got up at 3:30 am Sunday to catch my flight back to Providence from LAX. Despite the dire warnings from the newscasters, I found all security quick and painless. After all my worry about my big drugs, they didn't even look!! I'm convinced that it is because I didn't sleep one whole night last week worrying about it!

Off to get a bank statement for the stupid management company of the apartments. They insisted on 3 months worth of bank statements in order to approve us! Of course, I threw them away in a frenzy of cleaning two weeks ago. (This is MY account) So, I have to go to bank to get them. PITA

See ya later,
Peg

Hey Gang, I'm here. Nice to spend a few minutes around the pool, even though I wouldn't be caught dead in a bathing suit.

Peg, the apt complex looks lovely. I'm sure you two will make do with the space until something pops at the ofh. Consider it Peg-style camping? Good luck with the remaining cleaning out. Straightened your pens and pencils? LOL!

Barb, in case Judy can't come to the pool soon, dysgraphia can include reversing letters or numbers, but is usually more complex. http://www.as.wvu.edu/~scidis/dysgraphia.html
There is also a more math-specific LD, dyscalculia. I'm personally acquainted with this one.

Judy, bless you. It sounds like a hectic semester at best, even without all the special attention you try to give to your students in need.

Donna, glad you had a good weekend and have figured out how to do everything next weekend. I really can't imagine having major events so many weekends in a row!

Shelley, enjoy your day, girl. Congrats on the kite siting!

Everyone else, sorry to cut this short. I'm not getting much done this week it seems, but not for lack of trying. Everything seems to going so slowly--I feel as though I'm in slow motion, too. Haven't even started on the stairs--still in the bathroom patching and smoothing, at least when I feel like doing anything constructive. BLAH!

I'm sure glad that this week is going fast for everyone else...it seems to be dragging for me. I'm tired and just want to be at home...sleeping.

I tried to call my dil last night to make sure all was okay with my shopping trip with Micayla this weekend. No answer. So, I left a message...she didn't call back. Now I'm getting a little nervous that they have forgotten. I'll try to call her today. Seemed kind of rude to me that she didn't even call me back.

I took a trip down to the farm wagon last night for my friend in town. We have baseball practise tonight, so I usually e-mail her and see if she needs anything. Not too much...only 3 huge red watermelon, 1 yellow watermelon, 10 lbs. potatoes, 1 honeydew, 1 cantalope, and 2 eggplant. All for $20. Have any of you ever seen white eggplant? It's so pretty. She'd never tried eggplant before so I told her how to cook it and now she's hooked. Anyway, I left everything in my car overnight and it smelled so sweet this morning. A veggie air freshner!

Last night I walked about 2 1/2 miles....5800 steps. (that was after cutting the grass, but those steps weren't counted in) Today my hips and knees are a little sore. But the scale is going down not up and I've lost 1" on my hips. I really do enjoy my time alone. Dh found an old walkman that I used for the first time last night. Loved walking to the oldies. But....it's great walking to the slow ones...I try to keep time to the beat. When "Wipeout" came on....just about broke my neck trying to keep up with that one

Another trip to WalMart tonight. Dh loves to read all the flyers that come with the papers. Back to school sales are one and he's found quite a few good sales for items we can use for work, like mechanical pencils .99 a pkg when we usually pay over $2. He has a long list....and being the shopper I am, I sure don't mind wandering through the store.

I didn't get a chance to talk to each of you, but I'd better keep this short. Reports are waiting for me. Be back soon, I hope.

Why didn't they tell us this sooner.............

The Guys? Rules

At last, a guy has taken the time to write this all down??..Finally, the guys? side of the story. (I must admit, it?s pretty good.) We always hear ?the rules? from the female side. Now here are the rules from the male side. These are our rules! Please note.. these are all numbered ?1? ON PURPOSE!

1. Men ARE not mind readers.
1. Learn to work the toilet seat. You?re a big girl. If it?s up, put it down. We need it up, you need it down. You don?t hear us complaining about you leaving it down.
1. Sunday sports... It?s like the full moon or the changing of the tides. Let it be.
1. Shopping is NOT a sport. And no, we are never going to think of it that way.
1. Crying is blackmail.
1. Ask for what you want. Let us be clear on this one:
Subtle hints do not work!
Strong hints do not work!
Obvious hints do not work!
Just say it!
1. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question.
1. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it. That?s what we do. Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for.
1. A headache that lasts for 17 months is a problem. See a doctor.
1. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument. In fact, all comments become null and void after 7 days.
1. If you won?t dress like the Victoria?s Secret girls, don?t Expect us to act like soap opera guys.
1. If you think you?re fat, you probably are. Don?t ask us.
1. If something we said can be interpreted two ways and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the other one .
1. You can either ask us to do something or tell us how you want it done?.. Not both. If you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself.
1. Whenever possible, Please say whatever you have to say during commercials.
1. Christopher Columbus did NOT need directions and neither do we.
1. ALL men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings. Peach, for example, is a fruit, not A color. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is.
1. If it itches, it will be scratched. We do that.
1. If we ask what is wrong and you say ?nothing,? We will act like nothing?s wrong. We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle.
1. If you ask a question you don?t want an answer to, Expect an answer you don?t want to hear.
1. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear Is fine... Really.
1. Don?t ask us what we?re thinking about unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as baseball, the shotgun formation, or golf.
1. You have enough clothes.
1. You have too many shoes.

Judy, LMAO! These are SO TRUE. Posting these rules on her mirror and paying attention to them would save many a girl//woman endless frustration and heartache.

Donna, in spite of the possible glitch in the shopping trip, your post sounds less stressed than other recent posts, and happy moments, however small (like a wander in the WalMart) are good for us. I think the walking is a great thing for many reasons. And I could just imagine the fresh veggie/fruit fragrance in the car. Yummy.

I'm winding up a busy day at the bunny factory, and will take the bus home. Luckily the weather has been pleasant, making my first foray into public transportation in a long time that much easier. See ya later.

Everyone must be having a more interesting life than mine these days! I'm talking to myself here.

Alida, missing you. Hope things are going okay.
Peg, I know you're up to your ears in household sorting.
Judy--well, we know what's on your plate these days!
Shelley--making the world more beautiful, healthier, and happier through elective surgery. Actually, just what IS the most common procedure that comes through your place of business?
Donna, Teel, Brenda? How now?

I had my mid-year performance review yesterday. My "boss" is a long-time colleague, who used to report to me when I was a manager a couple decades ago. She knows she doesn't have to "manage" me. At this stage of my career, to hell with "growth objectives." I just show up every day, write my little head off, make good cards, and enjoy life. Let the younger, hungrier kids make waves. Been there, done that. If you haven't seen the Sound cards yet, find your way to a Gold Crown store. They are a hoot--in some cases, literally.

I'd forgotten how easy and pleasant it is to ride the bus to work. I don't have to pay any attention at all--time to read, doze, sightsee, or chat. It takes about the same amount of time, and the bus drops me almost at the door. I think I'm onto something here.

See you later, Babes.

Good morning!

I've been up since 3! Sorry, I have to keep this short. Once this damn web site is done, I will have more time in the AM. I changed the design again. Bob did not like the one I had. Being an old typographer, he knows whereof he speaks. So I went with a very simple basic design. But all the work is in the details!

Did I mention I did a little weeding on Saturday? By Monday morning, 14 chigger bites were driving me crazy. I also came down with a cold. Since both happened at the same time, I thought maybe I might have gotten sick from the chigger bites. But pharmacist says "coincidence." I have not had a cold or flu for over 8 years. This is what I get for working in a home with two young kids. Does not bode well for the winter.

Yesterday I had my appt. with the hip doctor. Both hips are "bad," but the right one is worse. Although the right one would be a candidate for replacement, he urged me to try a prescription and perhaps a cortisone shot first and see how the pain responds. If either/both don't work then he said we could proceed with a replacement. Makes sense to me. He said I was "a little YOUNG" to have a replacement! Could have kissed him for that comment. Upshot -- I will try the drugs and the shot first and go from there.

Sorry I have to run and not respond to each of you. But Berta -- YES to October! (Right, Barb?)

And Donna, that's sad news about your FIL. But he sounds like he is accepting the situation and being realistic. Perhaps the scans will show it is treatable. He may agree to treatment then. I have always felt that if I found out I had something bad, I hope I will face it with courage and accept it and not spend tons of money if there is no chance of recovery. At least I won't have to do windows (or web sites) any more!

Peg -- one more thing to cross off your list. You now have a great place to park!

Judy, that post was hilarious. Every bride-to-be should read it.

Shelley, yea! rain. Watch that TM, OK?

Barb, Terry, Rachel, Brenda (oh ye with the sore finger): HI!

Love you all. Have a great day.

Hi Gang!

Up early after a terrible night with this cold. Couldn't breathe through my nose, and I had a fever last night. I think it broke some time during the night because I was kind of sweaty this morning (TMI?).

We're off today to the beach in Maine. One of dh's parishioners has a B&B there and has invited us to stay for two nights. It should be restful, though dh loves to walk the beach up there. He REALLY wants me to go with him. I feel like hell and all I want to do is lay low and read. Oh well, this is how we travel!

And now for the good news: WE SOLD THE CONDO!!!! Got almost 40K less than we were expecting, but nevertheless, we signed the offer today. No contingencies on this one. Yay! The Purchas and Sale should follow by the end of the week. They are pre approved for a mortgage, so everything should fall into place. So, we can move ahead with plans to move in October. They want in as soon as possible, but we can't get into our little apt until October 10th, so they will have to wait.

Alida: Not sure what you mean about parking. Glad you are getting that danged web site finished the way you like it.

Barb: Your description of a performance review tickled me. That's the way I feel too. Take me as I am today. Because who I am is pretty terrific!

Bren: Don't worry about not having a lot of energy. It's a low energy time of year. End of August........blah.

Donna: Hope things work out for you this weekend with your dgd.

Terry: How're ya doing?

Shel: I know that you are being dragged through the wringer this last part of the week. Bear up, girlfriend! Mountains are only a few weeks away!!

Well, I've got to go, clean up, pack, and act like I am excited about going to Maine. I think I will like it once I am there. I just feel like crap, and don't want to go to the effort. Forgive my whining, okay?

Peace, Peg

Hi, all - apologies for not speaking up more - I've been sitting at the edge of the firelight - following the conversation and flow. I just haven't had much to say - dunno why really.

Peg, what fantastic news about selling your place - especially with no troublesome contingencies! I can well imagine how unappealing setting off for a longish trip must feel when you're just coming down with a cold. Hopefully, the healing properties of the seashore will ease your symptoms.

Alida, you've got a cold, too? It sounds like the cold and flu season may be hitting us early this year. Since you do work around young children, have you tried Airborne for preventing colds? It was developed by a school teacher who was fed up with catching colds from her students. It's kind of like an alka seltzser (sp?), but better tasting. I've used it often in the winter - it seems to help.

Judy, those guy rules are funny, but sad, too; men=inflexible, women=needy. It is good to remember that we are different, though.

I'm still up 3 lbs from my vacation weight. I was doing good at taking it off, but backslid. Hopefully, I'm on a new tack. I blew off yoga yesterday, but did part of a tai chi dvd before dinner. This morning I went walking early with a neighbor. I don't know her well, but we've chatted a few times. We met yesterday afternoon as we both bringing in the garbage bins. She has back pain, too; and we were ruefully acknowledging backsliding on exercise intents. We both like walking, so we agreed to go for morning walks together a couple of times a week. It's often easier for me to get going at a specific time if I have to meet someone - otherwise, I keep putting it off.

I spent way too long in the dentist's chair yesterday getting prepped for my first crown. That was for the tooth that broke while I was on vacation. The only reason it broke was because of an old filling that I probably never needed anyway (long story). I was a little emotional about it all, and felt very sad afterwards. Breaking teeth is so iconic for old age. Oh well... it's a back tooth and won't show unless I yawn real wide without covering my mouth.

I felt I'd better get in here and post so Barb wasn't talking to hereself again

No walking last night...baseball practice again. It was so hard to sit with my friend and not let anything slip about her son giving her a surprise anniversary party on Saturday. I won't see her again until the party so I know it won't be me ruining it. It might be a real surprise for the son though....she told me she bought tickets to the indoor rodeo and it's on Saturday! We might be having a good party without them.

I finally heard back from my ds about this weekend. Looks like I'll be able to take Mickey shopping. His wife and the kids are out of town right now but will be back by Saturday. That's why I didn't get a phone call back when I called them. Ds was working night shift. Apparently Mickey knows about the shopping trip and is very excited (like gramma). Last year all she wanted was a wallet and purse. And, the more pieces of cardboard in the wallet the better. We must have hit 5 stores before she found just the right one.

I was able to find a belt to wear while walking at WalMart for $6. It will hold my walkman and cellphone and I can clip my pedometer onto the side. Dh wants me to wear the cellphone cause I'm walking further and further from home and if I fall or something it could be awhile before someone could help me. Makes sense to me! Now I can walk without having things in my hands. I've heard that the more you swing your arms the more calories you burn.

This weekend the desk and chair will go to ds's house so that will make even more room in my craft room. I'm getting very excited about having my own room. Dh keeps pointing out different baskets and things I could get. My only problem is that I have my Dad's 2 keyboard organ that we took out of the dining room when we bought the new entertainment centre. We had it stored in the room where I'm putting my craft room. What in the heck am I going to do with it? A few of the keys don't work anymore thanks to my stepmother turning a hose onto it. (another story). But, it's a beautiful piece of furniture, made of rosewood. I don't play much anymore. I'd take it downstairs but it's so heavy! Ds and Dd don't want it, and I'm not just throwing it into the garbage. Too many memories of my Dad playing it. He loved music and played by ear. Have to think about that one I guess.

Peg: WooHoo on the sale of the condo. I bet that's such a relief for you. Sorry you aren't feeling up to par. I'm hoping getting to the bed and breakfast you'll be able to relax and unwind.

Alida: A cold for you too? Crappy....and I bet that's how you feel. Lots of bugs going around this year. I've been lucky so far, and don't want anything either.

Terry: Isn't it nice to have someone to walk with? I'd love that too, but none of my friends are into exercise. I have seen a girl that I know that does a lot of walking, but she's doing it just when I'm driving home and that's too early for me. (I can understand her doing it early...she's got 5 little kids and she's probably trying to escape!)

Judy: I loved the guys rules. How true they are, too. How's Lexi doing on the digging? I told dh about her and he just howled. Easy for us to laugh when our dogs don't dig. (they just throw pillows off the couch every chance they get)

Barb: I sure laughed when I saw you were talking to yourself. I've done that a few times too. I start to worry when no one else posts. I catch myself during the day when something happens ,making a note to myself, to tell one of the ladies here. Usually when I finally get in here I forget though.

Brenda: Hows the patching etc., coming along? That's got to be the worst job I've ever done. I love to paint, cause I can see the difference I'm making. But patching just makes it look worse to me before painting. I'm hoping to get my bathroom done this winter....completely gutted. But, I'm still paying off the frontroom and that has to be done first.

Another 1/2 lb. gone today. Down to 156. I'd sure like to see either goal or 153 where I stayed for 2 years. It's coming though. I had to laugh at dh last night in WalMart going down the food aisles reading carb counts. He must have put 12 boxes of jello in the cart along with single serving cans of tuna. I already knew that they were 0 carbs, but didn't want to hurt his feelings. Besides...he was paying for them

Have a good day everyone....talk to you all tomorrow.

Hey Galpals, so nice to see so many of you here today!

Barb, LOL, I talk to myself ALL the time, but not so much in print...I'm so glad the bus commute is working for you. Good for the pocketbook and the earth, can't beat that. And isn't it grand to be "self-managing"--sounds like the best place to be.

Peg, CONGRATS on the sale! Whew! So you've got that pretty much nailed down, a place in CA, and "only" all the in-between stuff to deal with <ducking> I hope your Maine trip will be more relaxing than you are imagining now so that you can pamper your cold into non-existence.

And Alida, you have a cold, too???? Drat it. And you've also changed the web design? Well, I'll bet it'll be pretty darned perfect by the time you finish. I know it's a PITA, though. Chigger bites! Haven't thought of those in ages! Talk about misery.

Judy, yup, I agree with Teel, funny but sadly true. Thanks for the (rueful) laugh.

TB, oh darn, I was hoping your back was getting better. Perhaps the walking will help. How nice to have a new acquaintance to walk with, too. Ya know, you don't have to stay away just because you don't have anything to say---doesn't seem to stop me any :silly:

Bless your heart, I so sympathize with your feelings about the crown. ((hugs))

Donna
, I give you lots of applause for your walking. You're putting my afternoon doggy stroll to shame. But I do agree with your DH--I try to remember my cellphone even if I'm just going around the block. Sure glad everything is a go for your shopping date with dgd. What fun that will be. Speaking of fun, how great is it to get a craft room! WOOHOO for you. Tough decision with the organ, though. If there's a better place downstairs, perhaps you could draft some of those baseball guys you feed all the time to help DH move it.

Shelley, how's it going? Crazy schedule I bet.
________________________________________________
I've dabbled at the bathroom patching and most of it's done. The messy part will be sanding everything smooth. (Yup Donna, it sure looks worse before it looks better). I've not accomplished much this week, but with DH gone, I guess I'll consider it my vacation as well.

I'd special ordered an area carpet for the MBR, based on a hanging showroom sample, but darn it, the light in my bedroom makes the darn thing, which came yesterday, look like it has a greenish tint and slightly muddier colors than the rest of what I'm considering. Beautiful on its own, but won't work, IMO. SO, after spending too much time trying to make the initial decision, then waiting for arrival, it had to go back. And no, they wouldn't waive the restocking fee. Stinkers. Back to square one.

Another new bird sited today....so exciting
This one was in our back yard at the feeder
http://natureali.org/ringeddove.htm

This dove, along with the Mississippi Kite I saw the other day, are more prominent in the southern states. I mean REALLY southern...like Alabama, Mississippi and Florida. OK....those of you who are laughing...OOOklahoma is not REALLY south...LOL...we like to think of ourselves as being the *heartland*

Anyhoo...this dove, actually a pair of them, was so lovely; very skiddish too.

Alrighty...hope everyone is well. Tomorrow will be a killer day...big OR schedule...starts early and ends late :(
Glad I went to the gym today because I imagine tomorrow I'll be draggin' by the time I get home.

nitey nite, chickadees!

Before anything else is said.......... Congratulations on the condo sale Peg!!!

Now before the next is said, I want to apologize for not holding up my end of the conversation. It's usually 8:30 or 9:00 by the time I get a chance to read posts from the day. By that time of the night, I'm fighting to keep my eyes open and my brain functioning. To my already full daily schedule, I've added a nightly phone call to my dad. Those last anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes and don't take place until 8:00 PM so that I will be on night minutes. I really feel so bad about just dropping in and running my mouth without taking time to "talk" with everyone that I have at times considered leaving the list for a while. However, I need you guys......... The weight creep is attacking me! I need to stay somewhat,
if not totally focused on a LC way of eating. I'm not at all happy with where I am right now and I don't seem to have the drive to correct the situation. I am going to the doctor on Monday to have him look at my shoulder. It's been bothering me since June. I've about decided that it is probably arthritis, but I guess that I ought to make sure. It's put a definite pain in my exercising........... another reason that the weight creep is getting me.

Once again........... fly-by hugs to all! I'll now retreat to the edge with Terry.

Judy, you are not allowed to leave, so you might as just forget that one.

You know, IMO, each of us enriches the group in a special way, unrelated to the amount or frequency of posts. I'd so much rather have you "drop in and run your mouth" than not drop in at all. SO, no more apologizing, hear? We need you, too (and that goes for each and every one of you out there!)

Judy, I know how you feel about DR. visits, so I'm imagining your shoulder feels worse than you're letting on. Yes, you should go. Bless you for taking on nightly calls to your Dad. He undoubtedly gets enormous comfort from knowing he'll hear from you.

Shell, bless you, too, another of the overworked among us.You know I wish I had a few million.....I'd set us all up for life so that the only work we had to do was that which gave us joy, not heartburn.

Pretty doves!

OK, hugs all around....looks like most of us could use a few, me included...

A bit of good news today on the furry front. Khaki's liver enzymes (ALP and ALT), while still substantially higher than normal, have gone down almost a hundred points. This is the first time in a year there has been any improvement, much less any significant improvement. YEA!

Wow, Peg!!! What a load off. Watching the news every night about the depressed housing market has made me anxious for you. Now...on with the show. The bitter taste of the lower price will soon be gone, and you'll be breezing off to sunny California.

BC, good news about your puppy gal, too. Hope that healthy trend continues.

Judy, we all like to have our posts acknowledged. But speaking for myself, I'm much more interested in hearing about YOU when you post, so please don't feel you need to go for the complete recap. Late evening activities are challenging for me, too, reading especially. So dodge in and dodge out whenever you can.

Donna, yesterday I slept in and skipped my morning workout, so I went for a walk after work. It might have been a run, but it was HOT, so I thought it would be wiser to keep the pace lower. I carried a couple of 2-lb. hand weights. Dang, those things got heavy after 30 minutes!! If you ever decide to carry weights, start with 1/2 lb. My arms are strong, but I thought my forearms would fall off before I got home. Congrats on the steady downward trend for you. Walking is a great activity. As for the surprise party--hope the guest of honor makes it! I think surprise parties aren't fair--no fun of anticipation, and (as in the case of your friend) a serious possibility of conflict of interest. Oh well.

Teel, thanks for reminding me about the Airborne. I intend to get some to help ward off the effects of breathing airplane air during our long trip.

Alida, how now? Hope the cold is better. You sure don't need pesky symptoms to complicate your busy life. We'll definitely corral BertaDott for a KC rendezvous one of these days, but not October 'cause I'll be far, far away. And in spite of my initial reaction, it might be fun to meet at Legends. There are lots of eateries there, and sights to see. I could pick you up on the way.

Shelley, those doves are beautiful birds. When I retire, I'm going to go for bird-watching bigtime. Put up feeders in strategic places, and enjoy my porch.

DH and I have named that outdoor cat Goldie. We arrived at the name simultaneously, but it isn't hard to figure out what to call a marmalade cat.
As the weather gets colder, we're going to have to figure out some form of shelter for her--maybe carve a cat door into the garage. I'm sure she's an extremely resourceful cat already, but now we have been adopted, and that means we have to take some responsibility. I've thought about capturing her for a visit to the vet, but she seems to be remarkably sleek and flea-free for an outdoor cat who's been living on her own. She's certainly well fed now. DH is a sucker for kitties, in spite of his grousing about the ones we already have.

It's Friday. Think I'll go totally casual. I was going to take the Miata today, but the weather report says rain (we only hope!) and I've been enjoying the bus. Yesterday was an Ozone Alert day, so the fare was only 25 cents each way. Can't drive a car for that! Cruise on into the weekend everybody.
