| Not at all, Terry! It seems to me harsh that you have to move on the death of a spouse too. They do wait until you are ready. And, yes, if you remarry, you can move back into married housing. That, in fact, is what happened to set our time back. Two couples got married! Remember that this is a community for retired church workers. For many of them there is no equity built up because of their unique circumstances. We are in the minority coming with some equity. Peace, Peg

| Ahh geez guys......... what a time to discuss steroid shots and creaky joints. Tomorrow is the day I go to the doctor to get my shoulder checked. And, just when my body has decided that a weight 10 pounds over goal is someplace it wants to stay, I hear that a shot to make the pain go away can also make more fat stay. Damn! Getting old sucks! And rain, Shelley..........no fair talking about that either. We are still crispy dry and close to or at 100 each day. We do have possibilities of getting a little rain later tonight. I swear, I'm not lying --- one day last week we did get a few drops, and I had to think about it to remember how to turn on the windshield wipers. Hey, I hear distant thunder rumbles right now. And, the question of the gauchos.......... well, they're cut out. They will probably get finished on Labor Day. I had to blend two patterns to get what I wanted. From the crotch up, they are one pattern and from the crotch down, another. I just couldn't find a pattern that was perfect. Besides, Butterick was on sale for .99 and I could buy two and mix them for less than one of another brand would cost at the store's regular price. Note to Barb -- the last time I mentioned a patterns, you noted the price. Those are never right. They are always 40 to 50% off the envelope markings. You may have to pay full price in Europe, but they are never full price here. At Hancock's, and I'm sure at JoAnne's (we don't have one of those anymore) each of the big three pattern companies generally has one weekend every month or two where everything from their book is .99. Vogue has a 75% off sale about as often. That's the only time I buy patterns. That way I don't feel bad if I never get it made up. Hey, who said they don't wear boots any more........... get some! They are definitely in style for everyone. Another new style is flats, and I'm really liking that idea for sure. Terry, Kite Runner was good wasn't it. I think I read the whole thing in two days. I recommended it to my daughter. She was pretty iffy about the topic, but then said that I had never steered her wrong yet so she might try it. Alida -- can't wait to see the website. I hope you are getting reasonable compensation for your time. Somehow I seriously doubt that it will happen though. Bedtime girls -- tomorrow is Monday and that means I have courtyard duty in the morning. Ok, here's my whine for the evening.... I need to wash my hair in the morning, it will be humid, therefore, my hair will look like poop all day. That's no way to start the week. On the bright side though, I'm leaving work about 1:15. Maybe the doctor appt. won't take long and I can do some shopping therapy.

| Hey, more tomorrow, I promise, but I wanted to say Hi to everyone. Judy, Alida , I had five cortisone shots in my wrist--this was over maybe 4-5 year period. I got significant relief each time (couldn't turn a door knob or write my name for a while) and successfully avoided surgery. The cortisone may have affected something else, but if so sure didn't notice. Steriods are not something to take lightly, but not something to eliminate from consideration, either.

| Monday morning, oh-dark-thirty. We expect even more rain today. The tv station didn't win any points with DH last night when it obliterated the end of the golf tournament in favor of a tornado warning report that went on for...who knows how long. Why can't they use a crawl or a small box like everybody else? The weather reporters must get exhausted pointing at the same map and saying the same thing over and over. I don't think a tornado ever showed up. And besides, if you were actually taking shelter, you wouldn't be watching the tv anyway. (Spoken like a person who has never actually encountered a tornado face-to-face. What about you other tornado alley residents? Judy? Shelley?) Judy, good luck at the doc today. I have an appt. tomorrow. Basically just a hi-hello. However, a tiny thing-y like a wart or "tag" sprouted on my back, and I'm hoping he'll just whack it off and not make me go to the dermatologist. I don't want to see the "skin nazi" right now, because she'll yell at me. While I was harassing everyone at the BBQ about wearing sunscreen, I didn't notice the gap between my shirt and my waistband and got a bad burn on my lower back. Dr. Ashby would consider that a mortal sin. Wah!! I'm always SO careful about sunscreen. Yes, Judy, getting old sucks. But you're not even close yet to getting old. You've spent enough time around nursing homes lately to know that the worst is yet to come. Isn't that a cheery thought? Eat your veggies, and keep your brain sharp with those sewing projects, and you'll be good to go for another forty years. Anybody else taking glucosamine/chondroitin? I started taking it years ago, because of arthritis in my big toe joints, and because of joint stress from exercise. After bunion surgery, I stopped having pain in my feet, and haven't had any further development of arthritis, or any sort of joint pain, anywhere else. I don't know if the g/c has anything to do with it, but I don't mind taking it as a possible preventive. Alida, I'll PM you about vacation plans. Shelley, Donna, Teel, Brenda, Peg--take care of you today. See you later, chickadees. |

| I've been taking glucosamine and chondroitin for many years. I still have a lot of soft tissue pain, but I do think it helps. I can't stand taking those huge pills 3x/day, so I get a powdered form (Joint Free powder from Costco online). I put a scoop in my morning coffee. Joint Free tastes okay (Trader Joe's G/C powder is yucky to me, though). In the winter, I make a thick, whipped milk drink with the Joint Free and some Thicken/Thin. An ounce or so of warm half-and-half whips up to a cupful.

| I really, really wanted to come in here and tell you all about my wonderful weekend with my grandaughter (and it was), but I'm stressing big time right now and just not up to it. My dd has hit rock bottom! She hit the bottle like she never has before. It started on Thursday and went right up to yesterday. She was hallucinating and just a mess. So, I spent time last night with her and she's ready for help. (her idea) She called a rehab centre and is trying to get in, but, they are full. It could be up to a week before she gets in. All she does is cry. She knows she's losing all her friends due to booze and she can't go on like this. I'm hoping she gets in very soon and I know they can help her. It's the same place she was in before when she was addicted to drugs (which she doesn't touch anymore). So, I hope you'll be patient with me if I don't post today...I have to get my head together and try to calm down my nerves too.

| Shelley does indeed speak for all of us, Donna. We'll hope that the Rehab Centre finds room soon. So sorry. All the love in the world can't undo an addiction. Please take good care of YOU. The roofers working outside my window have put up plastic sheeting. When I glance up now, the whole world is obscured by "fog." I'm finding this a bit disorienting. I hadn't realized how much I counted on my view to help me know the time of day. Being able to look out at the world makes a huge difference. Alida, hope you can come up for air--and LIGHT--every once in a while. |

| Back again.... Barb...on the ongoing and endless weather *bulletin*...we do listen to our weather guys when they *cut in* during a show or whatever. Of course living in OOOOklahoma, we keep one eye on the sky during the spring and fall tornado season. We can pretty much tell from the tone of our weathermen's voices the status of the situation, yanno? Our weathermen are heroes for sure. Forecasting weather here in the heartland can't be easy; they aren't right all of the time, but I'd sure put money on them MOST of the time ![]() Bren...hope you are doing OK. Sounds like you have a lot going on right now, kiddo. Come sit by the pool when ya can, 'K? Alida...I'm with Bren...steroids are not to be taken lightly, but they do work often times when other conservative treatments don't. My orthopod would only do 3 injections in my elbows within a 2-3 month period. I think it's definitely worth a try; it might get you further on down the road so to speak, before you have to do a THA(total hip arthroplasty). Good luck and keep us posted for sure, OK? Judy...how did your ortho appt go? Did you get a diagnosis? Did you get *injected*? Or will you have to have an MRI? Hoping all is well and you get some relief from the pain. Peg, dear one...are you in *full frenzy* mode? I know I would be. Sending you some good vibes for it all to be painless and smooth. When will you get to work on your dgd's Halloween costume?...after the move? You're a good Nana...you'll get 'er done, I have no doubt. Donna....what to say? Simply, I am keeping you and your family, especially your DD in my prayers. Inhale and exhale...and take things one day at a time. (((hugs))) to you, sweetie! Teel...I can't believe you are still waiting for your eyeglasses!!! That's crazy!!!! I don't blame you one bit...I'd have been pitching a *hissie fit* as my nana used to say. Golly-gee-whilikers!!! Bless your heart. Definitely sending good vibes your way that you will get them soon. You know, I tried to take glucosamine/chondroitin and it made me nauseous; I tried several differnt brands, took it with meals, without, upside down and sideways, and it still gave me a sick stomach. I finally said to heJJ with it! Rachel...yeah...where art thou???? We actually got another half inch of rain over night...woohoo! It's very cloudy now so we are hoping it will rain again tonight. DH and I did several errands today. I scored 2 nalgene water bottles for hiking and another pair of thorlo hiking socks....yay! I did find a hiking staff at the outdoor store, but couldn't decide which one I wanted, so I'll have to ponder on that for a while. The other *find* of the day was jeans, shirts, and a zip up hooded sweatshirt jacket for the grandson at Old Navy. DD said he has totally outgrown almost everything from this past spring. I have a feeling the words bean pole would describe him right now...LOL. I'm off to get my food ready for work tomorrow. Up at 0400 to get to work by 0530-ish. I also have a dental appt tomorrow afternoon...ugh...but it's only for cleaning and check up, so no pain involved...LOL. later chickadees, Shelley

| Donna, Big hugs to you and lots of prayers that your daughter gets into the rehab soon. I hope they are as sucessful with the alcohol problem as they were with the drugs. Dr report for me........ I saw my GP, not an othro guy. According to our insurance, you have to see a GP first. He took some X-Rays and poked around on my shoulder and said that it was most likely tendonitis or bursitis (which both have the same treatment). I'm going to take Celebrex for 2-4 weeks to see if it goes away. If the Celebrex doesn't do anything to help, then he will shoot it up. I opted to try the meds first. Then....... if neither of those work, he'll refer me to an ortho guy for an MRI, and whatever the next steps might be. Random comment on the doctor's office. I have been a patient of this guy for 30 years. However, I don't get sick very often. Since I had not even been in the office for myself since 1997, I had to fill out all paperwork as if I was a new patient. The staff was picky picky....... He asked half a dozen questions and said to forget it. I'm sure some office worker has her knickers in a knot because I didn't follow their procedure. I'm off to cook supper. I want to see the season finale of "The Closer". Check you later chicks.

| Judy, tendinitis takes a long time to go away. So give it a while (and give it a good rest) before you go for more drastic measures. Last year, I "re-upped" with my GP and promised I'd visit him more often, even if I'm not sick. So far, so good. I got my copy of MS Office for MAC today, so I'm going to do an install and get my computer in line with the known universe. New toys. Now, off to print my rebate coupon. For now, nighty-nite. |

| He said to give it 3-4 weeks before we went on to the shot. If I had been a week earlier, I could have put my Curves membership on hold for a month or so. Oh well........

| Oh gosh, so much I missed here today. Donna, dearest, thinking of you, praying that there'll be an opening soon at the centre and that your dd's heart will still be open to going. Barb, I was wondering if you're taking omega3's now (flax or fish oil). If so, you may be getting significant anti-inflammatory action which may account for lack of joint problems. If not, hey, you may just have good genes. As for me, I did take g/c for quite a while, but discontinued since I really couldn't tell the difference and was taking SO many other supplements that I needed. I should probably reconsider. Khaki, however, continues to take g/c supplements TB, I've seen that powder at Costco and wondered how it tasted. Thanks for the report. Shell, my ortho said three shots was generally the max, too, but my last two shots were spaced so long after the first three he thought it wouldn't be problematic. I think I'm definitely at my limit, though. Oh! walking sticks! We have a store that carries all kinds, including some of the most gorgeous hand-carved ones. I'd love to have one, but it'd probably make me look even more weird on my 2-dog jaunts around the block Judy, these days I have to fill out something almost every time I go to my gp or gyne--an update or privacy form or whatnot. Heaven forbid I should forget my insurance card, although the info hasn't changed since 1981! And I'm at each of them at least twice a year for med checks and the usual spring tune-up. I can imagine if it's been since 1997, LOL!! It must have been a book to fill out. What a pain! Yup, I took Celebrex--no,one of the ones now banned--first, too. Sensible action plan on the part of your doc, IMO. Barb is right--tendinitis can take such a long time to heal. Be ready to be patient if so. Bursitis I'm not familiar with.. Everyone, hugs out there. Peg, Alida, Rach Maybe I can catch up more tomorrow. Famous last words, eh?

| Good morning, galpals. Tuesdays I have an evening workout, so I start this day with some gentle yoga just to get waked up. Shelley, what's special about Nalgene bottles? I see them at the gym, and they just look like plastic bottles to me. For day-to-day water drinking, I keep refilling the occasional Dasani or Aquafina. What a cheapskate I am! Of course, for hiking, you need a convenient water supply that doesn't leak. Brenda, I eat ground flaxseed almost every day, and also take a fish oil supp. I'm glad to hear that's good for joint mobility. I DO have good genes, but my mom was in pain for many years with osteoarthritis, and it certainly is common in older people. Which I am now, I guess. If anybody's interested in comparing supps, I'll write the list. Actually, I need to make that list right now, to take to the doc today. I got MS Office for MAC installed last night. Now for the discipline to learn how to use all the toys, which include a thing called Entourage, some sort of communications program? I don't use anywhere near the capabilities of this nice computer. But then, I don't work from home. Yet. Gotta go put together a tuna salad for lunch. And make that list. See ya later, darlin's. |
