| Good morning! Peg, so your Bob is doing the Old Man's Creep, huh? Poor thing. He is taking food with his pain meds, right? Milk and crackers is what I used. Handy, and easy to get if I was by myself. I'll bet that Blueberry Pie will sound good to him in a few days. Will it still be around? So you dabble in astrology? I'll be interested in hearing what's up with Libras (Brenda). I'm a Taurus. Astrology is fascinating. Judy, that Good Housekeeping article was hilarious. Yanno, it's kinda sad that was the prevalent "conventional wisdom" back then. No wonder Women's Lib happened. So you feel like you may be ready for Induction? Good for you! I should join you. I do great until after dinner. That's my downfall. Also, last night I had dinner with an old friend from my Lyric Opera days. I ate TWO dinner rolls. Sigh. I haven't done that in a long time. There's a definite "what the hell" attitude going on in my head right now. Brenda, maybe you can blame everything on the stars. It will be interesting to see what Peg has to say about Libras! Thanks for the kitty G/C info. I have bookmarked the site. This month the budget has been blown to kingdom come with birthday and anniversary gifts. Maybe next month ... yikes! September starts tomorrow! I had a dentist once that did not know how to give a Novocaine shot. I was in tears, too. I guess he didn't place the first shot properly so I was not numb where he was working. After three shots he got it right. I don't go to him anymore! Good luck with your upcoming visit. Shelley, that's great news about your knee feeling better! Still take it easy, OK? You have to be top-notch for your vacation. Thanks you for the link on Celebrex. I don't know why I thought it was taken off the market like Vioxx (and Bextra?) I have taken all three. But the generic I am taking now seems to work. It's Diclofenac, a generic for Voltaren. As a matter of fact, yesterday I was walking and it hit me that something was different. I was taking longer strides without pain. Hooray! Barb, is it the same Dr. Ashby? And interesting that your doctor is listening to you about your WOE. Maybe he might learn a thing or two! I have forgotten about the restaurant atop the Hyatt. That would be a great place to enjoy a 60th birthday drink or two! I spent a lot of time at the Hyatt back in the 80's with the Chocolate Festivals. That was fun. Is the new museum open at Liberty Memorial yet? That may be something to do this weekend. Certainly more fun than cleaning house! Terry, you poor thing! Not being able to close your mouth after that last run-in with the dentist sounds painful. You must have a small mouth. FWIW, all my back crowns are gold. And they are very, very old. Works for me. You don't see them. I do hear that the newer porcelain ones are great, though. Is it this weekend that you get to commune with snakes? Donna, it seems like your daughter has finally gotten the message! For her to get herself into AA is definitely a move in the right direction. Her counselor (or whatever they are called) sounds like someone who cares. She needs a lot of love right now! LOL about Micayla "spilling the beans." So cute! And Donna, you are teaching your granddaughter bad habits! "Charge It!" LOL! I remember when I was little, I told my mother all she had to do was "write a check." I don't think charge accounts were around back then! ---------------------- I am so ready for this weekend coming up. No big plans. If I ever get the start-up info from my web-hosting people, I will try to get the site up this weekend. Have a good one! XXOO

| Alida, your post popped up in my e-mail, so I'm back. Yes, Jennifer Ashby is one and the same--the one and only. She's a heckuva gal, as they say. The museum is NOT open yet at the Liberty Memorial, so you'll have to think of something else. How about Powell Gardens? On the kid front, my sister's GD announced after three days of kindergarten that she wasn't interested in going to school anymore. She's been a total princess so far, so why should she have to do this?? Ah, reality bites. |

| Hi Gang! Oh so good to hear from all of you!!! What a wonderful way to start my day! Today I have lunch with a former parishioner who is a massage therapist, and I have a massage after lunch! Yay! DH is better. We took off the bandage this morning and he was able to shower. I think that made him feel better. For the most part, the pain is worst when he gets up or down. He thought he could get off the Percoset last night, but woke up in the night with severe pain. Also when he got up, he was really hurting. Thanks for the tip about food with the pills, Shel. He is fine as long as he a little something in his tummy. They do make him wacky and sleepy. But, that is okay. He is walking much better. Yesterday we took a little walk around the circle outside our condo. He has been up a lot this morning, but I hear him down now. Judy: That Gravity Tiles site you posted is addictive too! I played five games before I could get off it! Yes, it is very much like what Shel and I play. Ours is software called "Hoyle Games 2005" (I think) I got it from Amazon.com. It has more games than I could ever play, and I just love it. Still back to your ruminating about diet: Good for you if you can muster up the feeling to do induction. I just can't get there. I'm still at the whipping myself for the "pleasure creep" stage. For some reason, and I don't know why this is, because I know it isn't true, I have this feeling that I will be depriving myself with Atkins induction. Well, I will be depriving myself of sugar, (that Blueberry pie is SO delicious) but hey Peg!.........I did get on the scale this morning. It wasn't pretty. Yesterday's water did do a little good. I'm going to keep it up. Shel: You sound perky! I'll bet it is because you are going on vacation soon. Are you off for the week, or just yesterday? Donna: ((((hugs))))) Bren: I'll research Libra after a bit. I need to get my morning started. Yaknow, we had a real battle around here with dh's snoring. I even moved to the guest bedroom, which frosted him. Finally, he went to the Dr., and did a sleep study. He has sleep apnea (which is manifested by snoring, by the way). It is a pernicious things that awakens the "sleeper" a little bit several times a night so that they never get good sleep. In dh's case, his heart arrythmia was caused by his not getting enough oxygen into his blood from his constant wakefulness, as well as the adrenaline start that happened to his heart each time he stopped breathing. (which is what happens with sleep apnea) He wears a CPap machine now, and no more snoring and he sleeps much better. I wear ear plugs (the soft rubber disposable kind you get at the drug store). It has helped immeasurably. Sleep apnea is very dangerous, by the way. Sometimes when the heart stops, it doesn't start again. Dh hates the machine. I have to admit that he with his machine, and me with my mouth guard and ear plugs don't make a particularly sexy sleeping partners. But, I would, frankly, rather sleep! Barb: Sounds as if you are getting excited about NZ. I would be too. I'm anxious to hear all about it. Hilarious about your grand-niece. Sounds like my dgd's comment about "You'll always be all right if you have enough jewelry." (when she was 5). Alida: I'm waiting to see that website. By the way, I take Diclofenac too. It helps. Though I am in great pain right now in my knees. Dr. told me what to do and it involves exercise. I am thinking about it!! :silly: Gotta go for now! Peace, Peg

| Good morning ladies! It looks like the storms that have been pounding us for the last two days have finally left for other places and we have blue skies and sunshine again. I soooo missed my walk on Tuesday night but made up for it last night even though it was cool and rainy. Good news....dd went to her first AA meeting last night and called me all excited. She had an idea in her head of old people sitting around complaining all the time. Instead she found caring, young people who understand what she is going through. They have picnics, potlucks, dances etc...so she knows now that there is life after booze. One of the members is driving her to town tonight so she can attend another meeting. They feel that the more meetings you go to in the beginning the better. Today marks day 5 for her with no booze. We'll know at 10 this morning if there is a bed for her at rehab, but it looks like the worst is over as far as the dt's. Shelley: Thanks for the info re giving dd some alcohol while going through the dt's. I thought that was why they would do it, but it just seemed to me that it would put her right back to square 1. I know if she was to take even a sip, she would be a goner again. Judy: I only have you to blame! All your talk about gaucho pants and that's all I can think of. I just have to find myself a pair. I think I talked about them in here awhile ago and wondered if maybe I was too old for them? I just love the look of them with boots!! So, now I'm going to take the plunge and get some. All your fault!!! lol As far as the Good Housekeeping articles, it was hilarious. You wouldn't catch any of us doing any of those things. I have an old medical book that was my mom's and it's just along those lines. Tells you not to vaccuum when you are pregnant. What a hoot! I came home last night to find dh changing the sheets on the bed. Do I have him trained or what? Peg: My dh has sleep apnea too. Scares the heck out of me sometimes. I've been known to sit up and smack him to get him to take a breath. Of course, he doesn't know what's going on when I do it. (I suppose I could smack him for no reason also and we would think he wasn't breathing lol). And along with it....he can rattle the windows with his snoring. I've just learned to ignore it. I'd rather listen to the snoring than not have any noise coming from that side of the bed. Alida: I know that I'm teaching Micayla bad habits....what are gramma's for? lol If the truth be known, I didn't even bring out any of my credit cards...strictly cash. But no one else has to know that. I put a little aside all summer for my shopping day with her. She's definitely learning about money though...had to know how much each purchase was. I sure hope she doesn't repeat it to my dh! Rachel: We miss you!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Terry: Hope your mouth is feeling better today. I'm the biggest wimp when it comes to the dentist. Probably cause the first time my jaw was dislocated was in the dentist chair. Takes a good 3 needles before my mouth is frozen enough for me not to flinch just because the dentist leans towards me. Like I said...I was able to walk last night. I left the house between rain storms (sorry about the r word Judy), plugging in my tunes and took off. Oh, it felt so good. Only thing I have noticed is that I'm not taking as many steps to do the same walk that I did last week. It must be that I'm taking longer strides now. I came home and measured the steps for my pedometer and it was right on so that has to be it. What do you think Shelley? I also came home and took my runners and put them in the goodwill bag. By the time I got home, I couldn't feel my toes or part of my feet. I think wearing sandals so much my feet have flattened out and now my shoes don't fit right. Yea right, any excuse to go shopping is a good one. I still have 2 other pair of runners to wear so I'll try those first. Back to work...but at least it's on the downside of the week.

| Just got a phone call from dd...they have a bed for her tomorrow at 1:30....but, now that she is through the worst of the detox, she's no longer eligible for it. She seems okay with that. She's flying high on all the stuff that she learned from AA. Another meeting for her tonight and then she's back to work on Saturday. All I can do is pray that this time will be different.

| from my journal entry today: Quote:
Peg...you also sound *chipper* this morning Bren...I read somewhere(CRS big time here) that a person was only supposed to use Valerian root for not more than 2 weeks at a time. I have wondered on more than one occasion if it's the V'root that's making my mind go 90mph! I'm off it for now, so I guess a *self expierment* in the name of a good nights sleep is worth the effort Alida...you were right...Celebrex was pulled off the market shortly after Vioxx was, but they have since ok'd it's use again. I think it probably has more precautions...yanno...no asprin products, blood thinners etc at the same time if you are taking the Celebrex. Always something! Barb...It's nice to have a good work assignment; glad you are cruising into the week end on a good note! Tomorrow will be very intense for us...then we get a 3 day weekend...yipeee! Judy...you prolly get a 3 day weekend to, eh? Hope so. We are finally getting some cooler temps...below 90 Teel...any news on those eyeglasses yet? Happy camping, girlfreind...I guess tomorrow is the big day, yes? Sending good thoughts for a *snake free* excursion! Alrighty....DH just got home, so I guess I'll see what's shaking for the rest of the afternoon. later, chickadees! Shell

| Just a quickie.........for the moment. Funny this discussion of Sleep Apnea......... I'm not sure I told you that DS changed jobs over the summer. He is no longer "selling drugs", but is now selling sleep apenea CPAP machines. In fact he's in San Diego at a sales meeting right now. He plans to put one on DH when he gets the correct equipment in. He wants DH's input on the good the bad and the ugly of getting used to the equipment and the resulting improvement in sleep and health. He thinks it will help the sales pitch if he has accurate patient input. Back later (I hope)

| Judy, LOL! Lucky DH! Has DS considered trying it out himself? Actually, I know sleep apena can be quite serious, and I'm glad there are better treatments available. A few decades ago, a co-worker went through some awful surgery on his jaw to try to address sleep apena. I did (finally) get my glasses today - they were ordered way back in mid-June. The right lense still seems a bit funky to me, but I'm going to try them out for a week or so to see if it's just a question of adjusting. Wanna know how bad my astigmatism is? The other day, without my glasses I was ~completely~ startled by my reflection in the hall mirror. Besides being really fuzzy, my neck was stretched all long and skinny. My head was just a little knob on top - I swear I looked like a Q-tip! Or, something out of an alien space ship. Funny... I thought, "I've gotta get a picture of this!". Then, I remembered a camera would never see what I saw. Donna, I was so pleased to read that your dd is feeling better and getting some good help from AA. That's a great organization. I'm glad you had so much fun with dgd - so many shoes! She'll be the Imelda Marcos of the first grade! I noticed today that some decidous trees are already showing a trace of fall color. It seems ~awfully~ early for that in this neck of the woods. July was really, really hot, but August has been unusually mild. Fall doesn't usually start here until Octoberish. September is often the most summery month in the Bay Area. I wonder if that means it will be a hard winter? (well, hard by local standards). It took over an hour yesterday to get the dang crown fitted properly. Is that normal? Put it in - test for high spots - take it out - grind it down. We must have gone through that routine 2 dozen times. I'm supposed to get another crown on the other cracked molar next month. Whew! I'm thinking of cancelling and just see how it goes. Barb, now that you mention it, I'm a little surprised we don't see more people putting gems in their dental work! They put them in fingernails and toenails (well, fakes, but still). I mean, look at the tatoos all those nice young college girls are getting. And tongue studs. To say nothing of the tatoos all those nice, middle age women are sporting these days. Can rubies in the dental work be far behind? Brenda, I hope the novacaine injection goes better this time. Mine hurt, too, though not to the point of tears. You'd think they'd have come up with something better by now. Judy, I have that same 10 lbs hanging on. I haven't changed my sig weight even though the 3 lbs I gained on vacation keep coming back. The problem with maintenance is that the cravings seem to rule whenever the carb level goes above the weight loss level. LC only controls my appetite after I've been on induction for a week or more. And, it seems harder to get through that week these days. Is it the same for you? Alida, I grew up in a household with lots of Taurus people (Taurasai?). They are good people. Very dependable and good hearted - like you! Peg, that's great that Bob is up and walking outdoors already! I hope you enjoyed your visit and got a good massage, too.
