| Heather, you might consider trying on wigs first to check how various colors work with your skin color. I.e., does blond make your skin look sallow? too pink? greenish? I've seen a lot of that with dyed blond jobs.

| And speaking of hair color -- my stylist was very nice and told me he would sell me the color he uses for my hair. He also told me it would be easy. YAHOO. I just saved $100 every 10 weeks! Sorry I missed you all this morning. Lots of stuff to do. But it's Friday night ... my most favorite night of the week. Well, maybe next to Thursday with Survivor and GA. Anyone else upset because GA is in re-runs already? Does anyone remember the time when reruns were only in the SUMMER?? Donna -- do you believe Yul, Ozzie and Becky actually ruined their domination by voting off Jonathan? Or did I miss some reason they decided to do that? All it will take now is for one of the other group to win immunity and those three will be toast. (Can you tell I like them and not the others, LOL?) Heather, how lucky you were able to visit the Philippines! That must have been so exciting! AND ... a RAISE! WhooHoo!!!! Gosh, it is starting to get down to the wire with the Christmas stuff. It's darned HARD when you work everyday. I think I am going to have to do my shopping in spurts after work. The weekends have to be for baking and cleaning! I'll be back in the morning. Oh! I lost that one pound I gained. Whew! So in nine days I am down 7 pounds. Colonoscopy anyone? Seriously ... no seriously, something weird is going on. XXOO

| I'm a bit worried about the orange now We'll see if it was everything that my DH remembers. Won't it be something if it does go orange? Oops! Good thing I'm a SAHM so that I can hide for awhile. If it goes real bad I might be checking on some wig shops. |

| Wow Heather, that IS adventurous. I've never been close to blonde or even red. Well, actually I had a great blonde-streaked wig back in the day..... Of course, we'll want to see PIC-CHAS! Alida, hey I hope your roots turn out as well as mine did. That's a fab savings. Darn, I don't think I lost anything after my colonoscopy---so maybe it's the illusive "switch."

| random comment for Heather.... Heather, to go blonde requires *bleaching*, not dyeing of the hair(if you are going from dark to blonde). Bleaching is BRUTAL on hair, especially if it is not *virgin* hair. I would suggest that you consider doing some highlights to start with; that way you can tell how your hair is going to react to the bleach/chemicals, and if you don't bleach out to the yellow or white stage, then you can cover it up more easily than if it were your whole head of hair that you bleached. Also, remember you will need to put a toner on after bleaching to acquire the shade of blonde you desire. It's a long process for sure, and has greater potential for failure than a dye job or covering roots. Hope I didn't scare you out of your plans, but seriously....no, seriously, you might want to re-think the plan, or at least do a test strand &/or highlight only the first time??? Good luck, darlin' PS...ummmm....yes, I have been totally blonde, frosted, a redhead, and a dark, dark brunette, and even a deep burgandy/auburn. Funny we got on the hair subject, because I've been very seriously considering some highlights for something different Yes, Bren....I promise...pichas, pichas...LOL ![]() Shelley

| Mmmmmm... with all the conversation... dye jobs, colonoscopy.. I may have to do both and I could have beautiful hair and be thinner. Seriously, Alida, that was great that you got rid of 7lbs!! That's wonderful. I have my hair highlighted and then she colors my hair a brown while the highlights are in foil... what a process. As I have aged my hair turned dark, dark brown almost black. Now it has some gray.. not too much really, lots of my family grayed very late..but, when someone noticed some white in my hair and said "well, you are getting grey with the rest of us" that did it... medium brown with very light brown highlights.. I'm too dark to do much else. However, my sister does a brown that has lots of red in it and it looks pretty good. I do think I will ask my stylist for some color to take to Tx. to keep the roots the right color. Thanks for the thought... we'll see what happens. I don't know about the rest of you, but, we still have snow probably 6 inches on the ground yet. It is supposed to be warm for the next few days so hopefully it will go away. We're going south today to Tulsa. We had an old kitchen cupboard about 8 ft tall and 38" wide in a flea market and we have't been ablet to sell it. We are going to take it to our daughter. She has a 1920's Craftsman house and her dh will refinish and they'll put in their butler's pantry. DD has such a knack for decorating. Guess, I had best get the fanny in gear or I won't be ready when dh gets back from coffee.. Take care all and have a good day... catch you all later.. |

| Hi, girlfriends. Saturday morning will be busy in a different way for me. Our church does an event where we invite parents (from a local school where we tutor) who are a little short on resources to "shop" for toys for their kids in a large stash we set up, and also school uniforms, undies, and socks. Then we gift wrap everything for them. Heather, ditto what everyone advised on the hair. My stylist (awhile back) said that you can't lighten a bad dye job by putting on a lighter color. You have to use a special formula (probably a bleach) to take out the bad color before you can put on the new. All very hard on the hair. If you bleach your hair to go blonde or reddish, it might be tougher to correct than just throwing on another color. For highlights, I use a L'Oreal highlighting kit in a champagne blonde color. You can check the strands along the way to see if the color is developing the way you want. If your DH is handy with this sort of thing, an experiment with highlights first sounds like a good way to go, as Shelley suggested. But still, this sounds like a real bonding activity with your dh, and as long as you both keep a sense of humor--be bold. BTW, Shelley, I got that burgundy/auburn once--the "experiment" I most regret. Took a while for that to grow out, with repeated applications, over time, of my usual (then) light auburn, which has a bleaching agent. Brenda, back in the 70s I had a whole wardrobe of wigs, and wore them interchangeably from day to day. Wasn't that just so .... 70s?? I had a champagne blond, with extra pieces to velcro on the back and sides; a Barbara Streisand reddish bob with bangs; and a short, brunette style. I also had a mixed-to-match switch to wear in a sort of braided cowpie on the top of my head. Those were the days. That blonde wig was one of the "prizes" I got when I was a guest on the old "What's My Line?" Show in NYC, where I was invited to appear after a network news anchor interviewed me about Christmas cards at Hallmark. I have a tape of that show, including me dancing the "Soupy Shuffle" with Soupy Sales. Some of you here will remember all this. ![]() Alida, I'm sure you don't mind losing a few pounds, as long as you feel good. It might be that a determined 24-hour fast (with major fluids) DID cause some kind of digestive restoration. Maybe I'll try it--without the colonoscopy at the end. Stay warm everybody. |

| P. S. A bit MORE on the "dyer" warnings. My best friend for almost forty years has been a platinum blonde by her own hand since the 70s. She tells me her natural color is (or used to be) a darkish brown, but I've never seen it, except perhaps a little at the back of her neck. She does her roots regularly using a two-step process with products by Wella from the Beauty Brands store. She claims they are "the best" for the purpose. HOWEVER, the thing she won't admit is that her hair is totally and utterly FRIED. The only reason she can get away with hair abuse is that she wears it pulled back from her forehead into a French roll, or in various braids and pony tails with ornaments, or under a curly hairpiece. When she tries to curl it or wear it loose, it's frizzy but stick straight, if you get the picture. So...beware of the two-step process. When I color mine, every other time, I use a cotton swab to color my eyebrows. This is absolutely, positively a NO-NO according to the box. We are all careless and crazy in pursuit of beauty. Heather--Have fun. Be careful. |

| LOL COWPIE! Yes, I had a cowpie, too Barb, you really are a celebrity--I remember What's My Line! Gosh, you must have been a baby when on that show Eyebrows? Hmmmm, it may come to that....chin hairs will probably be first, LOL. And then again I understand there is a product out for the nether regions, too Shell, you are adventurous, hairwise, too. Gosh I just love your current color, but I can see the attraction of highlights. Since I'm just now getting into the roots business I don't think I'll be venturing into highlights quite yet.... Bert, the cabinet sounds peffect for your DD. Yeah, I got pushed into hair color too. When I was asked if I was my Dad's wife.......well, you can imagine! I've sent DH off on errands this morning. Between next week and the end of January he's taking off MANY days of vacation that he can't carry over next year. Egads, it looks like about three weeks worth, here and there. Girls, pray for me. One or both of us may not survive all this togetherness.

| Hi guys!! In a few hours I'll be setting out for a double date with DH's parents. Should be fun. We're going to see Deja Vu with Denzel Washington. I'll let you know if it's worth seeing. Nothing else we could all agree on. My DH's friend (Will) just left his wife. Now this lady (Jess) LOVES attention of any kind. When Will was on leave (he's in the military) Jess said that her house was broken in. Months later the items that were stolen came across a Pawn slip he found in a drawer! Another incident was her saying she was pregnant when Jess really wasn't then....so because Will thought she was already pregnant he didn't use protection then did get her pregnant a few months later. He realized of course some doctor's visits later what happened. - - - - - BC - hopefully I?ll be able to get some pictures for you all to see of my adventurous blonde dying job. Especially if it turns out like a teenager would like (pink/green/orange) then I?ll be showing off my new wigs too. Togetherness survival - I?ve come to rely on pills like St. John?s Warts smuggled into DH?s Christmas fudge which does the trick.. Shelley - I just talked with DH and he said that we can do the test strand to see how that goes. I?ll dab a bit on my roots and a little on the ends of the hair since my hair is lighter on the end to see how that turns out. If it looks okay I?ll do the rest and see how it goes. Have fun on Wed for you beauty appointment. It?s so nice to be pampered. Berta - 6 inches of snow still? I?m thinking about walking my kids to my mom?s work in a few hours since it is so nice. The sun was even shining. I haven?t been on a walk it seems like forever! The weather seemed to get cold and stay cold. Barb - I think I would have really enjoyed the 70's and their wigs. I?ve heard that the singer Cher only wears wigs and they look great!! You were in a tv show? How fun! As Sunday "dye hair day" is coming closer I?m getting a bit nervous. I?m hoping more of it not working (not likely I know) then it turning some color I might be embarrassed about. I?d really hate to have fried my hair because I?ve been growing it out since my ds was 3 and he is nearly 8 now. It takes forever for my hair to grow it seems. |

| Sunday morning. Heather, is this the day to "dye" for? Good luck, and have fun. That test strand is a splendid idea. Sorry to hear about your friend's trouble with his wife. I know you'll be supportive of him. Things are probably not going to go smoothly, and he definitely needs a good lawyer. Wonder if the military can help with that? (Not likely). As for spousal togetherness... Our saving grace is that he's a night person, and I work all day. My retirement a few years from now looms as a huge problem. I'm going to have to get another job. We get along perfectly well, but we have very different domestic patterns, and my hanging around the house all day isn't going to work for either of us. I had the good sense a few years ago to insist on making one of the three bedrooms "my" room. Before that, every room, including the rec room in the basement and the den (not to mention most of the closets) was fully occupied with his stuff. I'll drop in a picture I took yesterday of one of my American Girl dolls (Addy) standing in her trunk by the bookcase in my room. I'll be back after church to see what everybody's up to today. |

| Togetherness, retirement. It certainly can be trying sometimes. I've found that I had to find some activities to get out of the house. I spent about a week without going anywhere and was absolutely ready to pull out my hair or somebody elses' It's fun to do some stuff together, but you have to have time apart. I play card with a couple of groups, Red Hat's, have lunch a couple of times a week with friends. Then of course, I have the blessed slum dwellings..my job.. which sometimes isn't much work and other times a lot of work. So, Barb, start planning ahead. I retired at 60, your age.. with dh being 12 years older I am certainly glad I did. Hopefully your dh has better health than mine. That's my retirement input for today. Love the American Doll..Going to church and Christmas Open House at 4 or 5 homes... You all have a fun day today... Go Chiefs! |
