Hey gals, I'm going to stop by to chat early (for me, LOL), do some housework, and then meet 2 galpals for a 3pm late lunch/early dinner. None of us want to be out tonight in the single digits with more snow expected.

I swear, I do not know how you people handle all the cold weather.
Judy, there are always people who don't dress for the weather wherever they are--I used to be one. Now, however, if I know I have to be outside for more than a minute when the weather's in the single digits or lower, even for a long walk from a parking lot:
cuddle-duds undershirt, wool turtleneck, woolie vest, lite ski pants or flannel lined jeans, thick boot socks and boots, fluffy ski gloves, ear muffs, heavy parka with hood and velcro face closure. Warm, but not necessarily attractive!

Alida
, glad to hear you've got your "ears" again, and especially that it's making a difference. Yup, some of the Lowe's pre-fab countertops were decent.
Thanks for the Bears joke!

Alida, Barb
, you are getting this cold weather, too, are you not? And worse driving conditions. Shell, same for you.

TB,
what's new? Kitties gone? Classes, Lessons?

Barb, pink velour? Love the idea! Like Alida, my gray sweats are timeworn.

Bert
, woohoo on your team winning darts and shuffleboard! I'm impressed!

Rach, what fun that dh brought home a flugelhorn. Bet not many people can say they went to DC and bought a flugelhorn as a souvenir, LOL!!!

Peg, did you get another good sleep last night?? Hope so! You know, I wouldn't want to give up the Lexus, either, if I were you, and I'd probably have some resentment at being stranded. One of those cases of sounding good in theory, but not in practice. Hope you are able to save dh's you-know-what at World Market. Chalk it up to altitude sickness? Nah.

Donna, Dogs left in the cold, much less puppies--I just can't stand it. I know it happens all the time, but it breaks my heart. Are you having some nice "bossless" days?

Shell, being healthy is the best goal of all, and a positive mindset, too boot. Hope your dr visits were productive. Is this a workday for you?

Like Judy, my days are relatively repetitious, leaving me without much interesting conversation. How boring!!

Good morning ladies...the groundhog saw his shadow here too....sigh ...six more weeks of winter but I'm pretty sure I can handle that (like I have a choice)

Barb: Remember a couple of weeks ago when you said that you were kind of verbally attacked on that other website? I've been talking to a woman over there and she had the same problem. She's such a sweetheart and it's really hurt her. She's closed out her journals and refuses to go back. Such a shame...she was an inspiration to a lot of people. I did invite her over here...but I think she's burned out now.

Brenda; How can you move with all those clothes on? lol I just throw on a winter coat, gloves and boots and I'm good to go. Of course, I have an automatic starter on my car and start it from the house 10 minutes before I leave. Nice and toasty warm for me and the furkids.

It's like heaven for me not to have my boss here. I got so much done yesterday and even managed to sneak away half an hour early....only to find dh did the same so I ended up making supper instead of watching Opera.

Alida: Okay, what did you think of Grey's Anatomy? I was totally shocked that George eloped. Didn't care for the way the other girls treated his new wife. Gotta love that show!

Bert: Okay, I guess we'll just have to set up a dart match between my dh and you
He's in another tournament this weekend in a small town about an hour from here. All the proceeds go to the Children's Telathon being held this weekend. They get in all kinds of prizes donated from the local merchants and get everyone to bid on them. Fun for all. I'll be staying home and cleaning house...oh lucky me.

Judy: I enjoyed the post from you. I think all of our lives are a little of the same old, same old this time of year. I'm just counting the days until I can get out and get dirty in the garden. At least you can see your grass and garden!

My dd has a terrible, horrible, awful cold. It's settled right in his chest and he's coughing something awful. Of course, he won't stay home from work. Last night he got up and slept in my recliner (the cat had his) so he wouldn't wake me with all his coughing. The noise doesn't bother me. Anyway, all he had over him was a little afghan so when he climbed back in bed at 7 this morning when the alarm went off...he was frozen. That makes sense when you have a cold. Men!!! But, I bet he'll be feeling better tomorrow for the dart tournament

Well, back to the routine for me...guess I should get some work done and then start dd's income tax. She should get a whopping amount back seeing as she gets to claim all the dentist receipts that I paid for. I think I'll have to talk to her about that!

Here's the flugelhorn DH bought - it IS very like a trumpet - just a deeper richer sound - He has played the trumpet since he was ten and has always wanted a flugelhorn - it is beautiful and he has been practicing (sooooo nice to hear!): http://www.kanstul.net/pages/instrum...s/ccf925m.html

And can you believe this... the company now sent an email asking if DH could come to DC (again!!) next week to work on the contract with the donors... what a travel nightmare - good thing we live 3.5 hours by train... the good news is that thi smeans we are getting much closer to a project - sheeeeesh!!

Walked with Mom this am - and weighed in at 152.... (I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...)!

I'm check in later and respond to you all instead of this all about me, stuff (sorry!) :o

Okay, after trying to get dh to be a photographer, and uploading the pic., and trying to figure out how to post, (whew!), here is the pic of my new pixie cut, and my eyebrows. I've just added a little definition on the top of my brows, not much. I'm wearing my new mineral makeup, and you can also get a good look at my TEETH. (Sheesh!)

Hi guys,
Back again...LOL. Had some chores to do this morning, and I knew if I didn't kick myself in the behind and get moving on them, they would fall by the way side. It's a dangerous thing, being a closet procrastinator...LOL!

Alida...yay on the H/A repair! Here's hoping they BOTH last for a long, long time!
LOL...I love the Budweiser commercials too!
We'll be cheering for the Colts though.(sorry Bren).
Actually, I like both teams so I have no wagers on either team. I hope it's a good, close, clean game with both teams playing their best, and above all...no injuries.
Both coaches are to be congratulated...they have certainly worked their way to the top.

Bren...have fun on your gf dinner! Stay warm, but it sounds like you have the right *duds* for those cold mid-west days and nights. I love pairing a turtleneck, jeans or cords with a toasty wool blazer. Nice comfy pair of loafers or Borns,(and don't forget the argyle knee-hi socks!) and I'm good to go.

Barb...now somehow I'm NOT surprised you would go for PINK velour sweats! Sounds yummy for sure...and talk about toasty...yeah, bay-bey! Hoping your sinus headache is gone for good! (if all else fails...take BIG drugs!)

Judy...good to see your post! Ditto on the same-ole, same-ole. It seems like these days I'm waiting on something all the time. Waiting on the heel to get better, waiting for the weather to warm up, waiting to see what is going to happen with Dd...sigh.
That's what moms do I guess...we wait! LOL. Anyway...same old waiting.

Peg...what up darlin? Off to shop for gifts of Peru today? Hope you have much success finding the perfect gifts Yanno, on the car thing...even a nice used vehicle for DH wouldn't be that costly, would it? Of course I guess you could put the fear of The Heavenly Father in him(DH) and tell him you'll just have to RENT a car everytime you need wheels...hehe. That might make your sweetie reconsider, 'reckon?
Good luck to a speedy and amicable solution

Rach...woohoo on the pounds down! :jump: You're obviously finding your *groove*...keep on keepin' on! I'm almost to the point of *d@mn the heel*, I'm gonna walk! If it hurts, then I'll take drugs! Dang. Glad it looks like things might start moving along for you guys. Will you get your things out of storage then? Also your car will be sent to Armenia as well? Oye! Such a balancing act for you!

Donna....horray! The IB is gone! I highly recommend ducking out the door early today as well! You deserve it! Yeah...tell your DD you need a little *secret kickback* money from financing the dental work Sounds like a deal to me...hehe.

Teel, Bert..waving atcha BIGtime!! Hope you are both well and having a good day!

Well, DH and I had our wellness checkups yesterday. DH is perfectly healthy on the outside...just needs some lab work and we don't expect anything abnormal to show.
I need some labs and other stuff in the next week or so. I'll email you all with the scoop. I don't expect it to be a biggie, but just a little worrisome for now.

Anyhoo...we are still in the deep freeze here...maybe single digits tomorrow night they say.....burr. One of our nurses where I work, lost her dad last night. I will work extra next week if they need me; Monday and Wednesday for sure at this point.
Think I'll go fix myself a cuppa DCGT to take the chill off.

Have a good week end everyone!
later, chickadees!
(((hugs and love)))

Yaknow, I thought I posted earlier. I'm sorry. I was on the PC and then dh came in (of course) and wanted me to do something and I lost my post, I guess.

Had a nice long (1 hour!) phone talk with dd3 this morning. She stayed home from work with a sore throat. It was so good to get caught up on her life. She works so hard and long that it is not often that we get to really chat.

Also, last night talked with bgf about her upcoming surgery. It may happen on Valentines day. I told her, no mater what I'll be there. It will no doubt be done the "easy" way instead of too invasively. So, less recovery time.

We didn't find much at the World Market yesterday. I've resigned myself to giving the 7yo some wooden figures of llamas and stuff that were carved by Peruvians, giving the doll to the 13yo (she has been collecting them), and giving 11yodgs some milk chocolate "balls" (like soccer, footballs, baseballs) we found at the World Market yesterday. Dh still has a contact there in Peru who is coming to the States in the Spring. I told him to write to her and ask her to bring two more dolls and more wooden animals so all the girls can have dolls. (including the one in Texas)

Sounds like you gals in the Midwest are having COOOLLLD weather! I'm layering too, but nothing like you, Bren. But, I do well remember going out with all those clothes on! Especially when we lived in Ann Arbor, MI. Whew, it got cold and stayed that way. Have fun at your lunch today.

Judy: So good to hear from you. So, Grey's Anatomy last night was wonderful, I thought. I'm happy for Callie and George. And, I was so proud of George for standing up for her with "the girls." Also, I wonder if that engagement between Dr. Burke and (what's her name?) will last. I hear that the Producers are still deciding what to do with Isaiah Washington after his homophobic gaff at the Golden Globes. He's in "rehab." What does that mean anyway, when it refers to the stars? They are all in "rehab." Sheesh. I suspect that it might be a little different than the "rehab" that we are used to hearing about!

Barb: Stay bundled up, girlfriend. Spring is coming. I thought the findings of the Global Scientific community were pretty sobering when I heard them this morning. They say that at the rate Global Warming is going it will take 1,000 years to repair the planet. That is, if we start today. Wow! I've been thinking about what we (dh and I) could do to begin repairing the planet. Want to know what dh's first comment was? "Well, we certainly don't need a second car." Aaaarrgh.

Alida: Yay on the HA's So glad that you got them and that they are working for you! You asked about my goal and lowest weight. My lowest was 175. So, I'm only 10 lbs from that. But, my goal has been 165, which I haven't seen since I was in my 50's. I WAS going for 155, until Brenda helped me adjust upwards when I was stressing about never getting there. Don't forget that I am 5'8". I used to be 5'9", but I've shrunk.

Shel: Hey, girl. Thanks for the compliment. I really love the ease of taking care of this cut. I just get out of bed, run my fingers through it and I'm good to go. Same goes for washing it. I let it air dry and run my fingers through it once in a while. Love it. I'm still getting the hang of the mineral makeup. I need to get some colored moisturizer. I need to go to Macy's anyway to get some other stuff. Keep putting it off. I'm now using a toothpick to get the last of the moisturizer in my expensive jar!

Donna: Take the whole day off! There, you can tell IB that I said that. Gosh I wish you would see some improvement in Lilly!

Bert: Hey, it's good to see you again, girl. Sorry that it is cloudy and cool there. I'm glad you are not in Fla. Did you get any of that weather that they got last night?

Terry: Are you busy teaching today?

Well, off to do the budget. OH, that's what I wa asking you all in my first post. I have been keeping our budget with expenses and income on worksheets in a workboook on Excel for the past year. I really don't know how to work the program, though dd3 showed me how to open the worksheets and how to do the formula for one thing. I looked through the Microsoft site this am and they have an online training for $29.99, that includes an online book. It looks as though it MIGHT do the trick. But, do you know of another program that will show me those things that I don't have to set up every blamed worksheet every time? I have used Quicken, and I don't want that kind of detail. Just comparisons of how we are doing in each budget category. Any suggestions?

See ya later,
Peg

Woo-woo, Peg! You do look MAH-VELOUS!!! Cute hair, cute smile, cute eyebrows. Radiant. Sorry, you just don't fit in at an OFH.

We had a beautiful sunny day, and it was good to be out to play. I took my dad to see his new great-granddaughter for the first time. Picture attached if I can get it to work.

Donna, when it comes to getting slammed or insulted online, here's my view. Ya gotta have a thick skin! I'm not letting some stranger with an attitude drive me away from a place I enjoy--and that other forum is a very congenial place 99.99% of the time. And when it isn't--well, that's life. I'm sorry your friend felt so deeply attacked. I don't know what happened.

Peg: Don't you look gorgeous! Love the haircut on you. I bet it doesn't take much time at all to get ready in the morning now. I'm still playing with curling irons etc.

Barb: I agree with you that you have to be thick skinned, but this lady had just had enough. Too bad really.

Love your picture too. Your Dad does look really pleased doesn't he?

I'm just waiting for the final driver to leave and then I'm outta here. It's sunny and not overly cold...I think I'm just getting used to it really.

Well, I agree just because California is a terrible place to be without a car - what with urban sprawl and few decent public transits systems. But, instead of a truck, consider getting a fuel effiecent, low emission type car. Maybe make a rule that who ever is driving the fewest miles takes the Lexus?

Terry - I think I would have to agree that 5 cats is a few too many. ... Ok, here's my question to you. With that many cats, you must have some serious shedding issues. Lexie may shed worse than any animal that I have ever seen. How in the world do you keep it under control and get it off everything in the house?
BWAAA HAHAHAHA!

Actually, as 4 of the 5 cats in residence are ultra short hairs, we get break on the schedding.... except the torty persian sheds enough for any 5 cats. We have those adhesive rollers everywhere - all over the house. It's the litter boxes that are more of a problem. Even though I've gotten the biggest boxes I can find, the kitties still delight in kicking the crystals and grit out of the box. That said, I have a lot of vacuums: a Black&Decker hand vac, a Roomba, an Electrolux rechargeable bagless, and a heavy duty Simplicity cannister. If I was making more money, I'd buy another Roomba or two - one or each floor.

PEG, YOU ARE DAZZLING!!!! Love the hair, love the brows, love the teeth, and love how it all comes together

Barb, the pix of your dad and the newest addition are darling.

Bert, I do agree that your sparkle comes right through your avatar. I'll bet you're the most fun neighbor on your block

Rach, PIA on the DC trip, but yeah, at least that's good sign.

Shell, what??????? I thought EVERYONE was a BEARS fan, LOL. (Don't tell anyone we're renting a moving Sunday evening, ok.)

Judy, Peg, Donna,I really enjoyed Grey's Anatomy last night, too. Yup, I love Callie's character--let's hear it for girls with curves! And I'm enjoying Cristina's finally showing more than one dimension. My favorite character of all, though, is Miranda Bailey

TB, I hereby dub thee "QUEEN OF THE VAC." Gosh, I never considered a cat box situation serious enough for a shop vac, but hey, bet it works!

Good girlfriend evening. Lite Mexican dinner and long, dawdling coffee afterward. Much talking and laughing, lives have been properly processed, and all is well.

Everone, have a great nite.

I finally got a call back from the vet after taking another urine sample in this morning. He still doesn't know what is wrong. Damn...this is getting so infuriating. He's leaning toward liver disease. He's again sent the urine sample away cause there are things in it that he doesn't know what they are. The test shows that Lily is dehydrated but she's drinking huge amounts of water! I've now been told to feed her anything that will get some food into her. And also that this is very serious. So, we are back to the beef jerkey which will also replace some of the salts that she's missing from drinking so much. Poor girl...she doesn't act sick except that she's constantly peeing. Now at night, we place a big plastic painters sheet over the small carpet in the front room...much easier to clean up than shampooing carpets every day. The vet will call me on Monday and probably set up an appointment for Tuesday. I think it's going to be a long weekend.
