    Good morning!

Judy, seriously, Olivia is the cutest baby I have ever seen! Those eyes are gorgeous!

Barb, sounds like the flu for DH. Does he usually get a flu shot? The only problem with Ibuprofen or aspirin is those meds are contraindicated (is that the right word?) if taking certain other medications. I know I am not supposed to use either aspirin or ibuprofen because of the Diclofenac I take. So, does your DH take any meds on a regular basis? Prayers for a quick recovery and that it is just a cold or mild case of the flu. Perhaps sinus infection? Is he prone to those?

Brenda, take care of yourself, my friend. Perhaps a trip to the doctor?

Adirondak jeans, huh? I'll have to check those out!

Seems like we all have our computers fixed. A screen shot every minute? My, that's a heck of a lot of JPEGS! Who would even think that would be an option with a TV card!

Peg, my old computer's motherboard has problems, too. But it's been able to limp along for several years as a back-up. Are you going to replace the motherboard, or just buy another computer?

    Hooray! for a great sermon!

Shelley, so, how was the pork, LOL? I do mine in the crock pot and the smell is heavenly.

Hello to everyone I did not mention. It's Monday and back to same-old. Have a great day!

Alida, thanks for the reminder. No meds conflict that I know of. Dh swears he always gets the flu when he gets a flu shot, so of course he eschews that. I got mine. I think he does have the flu. He doesn't seem to be showing signs of sinus infection, but that's always a possibility.

Peg, what was your scripture text and title of your sermon?

    Barb,
    a few thoughts...
Fever can be indicative of a bacterial infection which would need antibiotic treatment. (confirmed by blood work, mainly an elevated WBC)
The Flu can be deadly for older people, especially if they have other chronic ailments.
If he has been febrile for 24 hours, I would insist on a visit to the Dr.
Fever in an adult is generally acknowledged at 100.4 degrees.

Wow, I was only AWOL for 4 days.. and did I get behind with your posts.

We made it back safely to the land of Oz.. and real life. "sigh" Laundry is done and all the "stuff" put away except for a big sack of books and some movies we brought home.

Stopped in Houston at dd #3 and stopped in Tulsa at dd #2, so nice to see both of them. Also, had a visit from granddaughter and her new baby when we returned home... surely that doesn't make me a great=grandmother???

Hi to everybody.... I always keep informed by reading your posts... just don't post regularly... glad computers are up and running and everybody is doing well.

The words "flu" and "deadly" in the same sentence prompted me to call the doc. Waiting for a call-back now. Thanks, Shelley.

Morning, all. Don't have lots of time this morning. The boss is back after a week off, and we're having to catch up.

Saturday I caught up my laundry, and used the power washer to clean the front porch - got rid of the barn swallows' nests - whew! did they ever stink! Got my old benches looking almost like new, too. And Dan tilled a small garden space, so soon we will be planting some squash & maybe lettuce, and tomatoes will go in the Earth Boxes.

We did a huge shopping yesterday at Sam's & WalMart. Spent a small fortune, but I shouldn't have to buy meat for weeks and weeks. Got all the meat sealed with the Food Saver and safely in the freezer. Have to wait for more bags & canisters to get the fruit & cheese safely tucked away. DH & I were both completely exhausted last night. It's a long trip, and it was a long day.

Alida, Togo is in western Africa, between Benin and Ghana. All 3 countries have a southern coastline. Togo used to be a dictatorship, with lots of oppression, then they became a "democracy", with the dictator becoming president. My son-in-law doesn't keep up with the politics there, so that's about all I can tell you.

Judy, that baby is just adorable! Those blue eyes, and that smile! Wow!

Peg, glad to hear the computer issue is resolved. Although it seems most computer problems need to have money thrown at them to fix them.

Brenda, sorry about those headaches. It's amazing what a little bit of pollen can do to us.

Barb, you scored big on your lc books. Always wanted to read the Vita Nutrient Solution, and Johnny Bowden. Feel free to share any tidbits.

Heather, you seem more chipper lately. The extra protein must be helping.

Donna, your yard must be looking really good now, you've been working hard on it.

    Shelley, Hi!

To everyone else, have a great Monday.

Flu follow-up: When the nurse couldn't reach me at work, she decided to call home instead (like I'd be there??) However, she connected with Sick Boy, and they had a direct conversation--which is what I wanted to happen in the first place. He seems to think he's feeling better, and agreed to show up tomorrow if not. Amazing how quickly they recover under threat of actual treatment.

Nita, you DID have a big day! The idea of fresh garden vegetables is so enticing. Good luck with that.

Berta, you're plain and simply great. The grandmother part? Claim it as you wish.

    Hi Gang!

Writing to you on my laptop!! Woohoo! I didn't turn off the computer last night because the "Geek" told me that it might not come back on. Sigh. I'm glad to hear that your "old" motherboard is still working after years, Alida. I have an external hard drive. Only thing is, none of my USB ports are working, so I won't be able to backup before I get it fixed. I have done regular backups, so I don't think there is anything on the computer that I can't lose.

I will get the motherboard replaced, and as long as they are in there, I want a connection for my video camera installed. Also, want the "card" slots for SD cards working. They never have. I think doing all that will be cheaper than getting a new computer.

Bren! I was going to call you today if you didn't post! So glad to see your perky face. Dang it about the headache,. Does sound a little allergy related. My allergies are going crazy! I hate it when my nose itches!

Barb: Boy, I hear you about these old guys. Mine won't call the Dr., unless I practically sit on him. I, too, have called the Dr., when he didn't want to and insisted that he go because the "Dr. said so." Sheesh. I guess it must be a male thing, huh?

My text was Rev. 12:1-7 and 21:3-7 (I think) I don't have it in front of me now, and CRS, it leaves as soon as I'm done with it! The title was "Dancing in the Dragon's Jaws." The theme was the ways that we can audaciously live in the world, knowing that our lives are already "owned" by the One. I wanted it to be a peace and justice sermon, but the HS had other ideas, and it turned out to be a "hope" sermon, in that we need not be afraid (terrorized), on any level. (Amusing note: I wanted the cong. to sing "Be Not Afraid," at the end, and the Pastor had never heard of it, so she scheduled "Be Not Dismayed!" It is an old Baptist chestnut! The Church is UCC ) Anywhoo, I was very tired all afternoon and evening, and slept like a baby last night.

Donna: I can just bet that you feel so good about your yard. What a thrill to get back in it, huh? And, that is hilarious about your car. DH is taking mine to get the oil changed today. This will be the first time since we have owned it that it has had its oil changed on time! We are driving to AZ again at the end of the week. DH's dd2 had neurosurgery on her neck last week and he wants to check on her. Her husband is on full disability, but insisted that he could take care of her. But, we want to check up on them and do some basic housecleaning, laundry, cooking. We'll only be there for two days, so not really long enough to do much. What a blessing it is to be here close enough to help when they need it!

Bert: Glad you got home safely.

Nita: Planting all ready, huh? Wow. We are still marveling at a March without snow. This is our first winter here in 15 years (well, if you don't count last winter when we left on the 1st of March to drive back to MA) We don't have anywhere to plant anything here in the apartments. But, I did manage to almost kill the gardenia plant that dd gave me for Mother's Day last year, during the week last week when it was so hot here. I didn't realize that it was dry and it was in full sun. I think I caught it in time, but it is pretty bare of leaves right now. I do see some new growth, but I am so upset with myself!

    Hey Shel! You workin today?

Judy: What a precious face!!!! You must have been thrilled to spend time with Miss O. Tell!

Heather; Let us know how you are today, too. Busy, no doubt.

My bgf went with me to church yesterday. She had never heard me preach. She was duly impressed! (ha!) Then after church we went to an incredible Mexican restaurant. They made their own tortillas! I mean, this stuff was out of this world. Way too much of it though. And, especially last evening, I was SO uncomfortable. I was f***ing and burping all evening. Yaknow, I think that I don't need to eat as much as dh serves. First of all, I'm not hungry on his schedule (8:00-noon-6:00), and second of all, I don't need all that he serves. Not sure how to solve that. I need to talk to him about it.

I saw my Rheumatologist this morning and he prescribed water therapy for me. He said that I need to get "conditioned." He reminded me that with Fibro, it is a vicious cycle: sedentary because of the pain, decondition, exercise, pain because of the exercise, sedentary pain, etc. How well I know! That is me in a nutshell. But, I am going to go. Something has got to give. Maybe that will spur me on to do more than sit on my ever-expanding b***!

    Gotta go, see ya'll later!

Afternoon everyone! Went shopping today and bought a really nice Asian stand for the kitchen counter that will hide our keys and junk as we enter the door. We had an open one and I thought it was an eye sore for so long. The price was good today so couldn't resist. Also bought a drawer organizer to separate all my socks and underwear. Made it look like I have more room in my drawer so may have to go shopping a bit more to fill in the spaces. lol Got stocked up on some more fruits/veggies for a week or so. I'm working on going more fresh but it looks like I might go can for a few days as the extra protein is putting a little damper in my food budget. I've also been having a hot lemon water every day and whole lemons are a bit pricey but worth it to keep this body healthy.

    - - - - - - - - - - - -

Donna - Water retention is a pain. You didn't drink water all day? It's so weird to me that we swell up when we don't drink enough water but our rings will nearly fall off if we drink a gallon. But good thing because I think I've gone years at a time when I only drank soda or milk. Yikes!

Judy - what a darling baby!! What a happy baby!

Shelley - I'm so glad that you are here. I often see you jump in and tell people to get there butts to the doctor. You take such good care of this group.

Barb - You are such an inspiration. So many times I hear of people getting to goal (like I did) and then they feel like they have room to splurge. Nip it in the butt while you can I'm learning. Only 10 pounds back to goal for me!! Not to far and my clothes are fitting much better. // Hope that your DH feels better soon. Sounds like a pretty stubborn man but aren't they all?

Alida - Happy (is there such a thing) Monday!

Berta - great grandmother! I bet you are a pretty great grandma.

Nita - Wouldn't you know that I'm down 10 pounds to goal again? The extra protein/calories is really doing this body good! // I do wish that I had a garden to tend but the landlord is awful picky about me digging up the lawn. Keeping filling us in on your lawn adventures that you and your DH do, I love to hear about those things.

Peg - I love the title of your sermon! // When I read your post I laughed thinking she said f***ing and burping. // I sure hope that the water therapy does just the trick!
    150 pounds gone!

    HI gang!
Finally got a chance for a minute to myself so I could *pop* in here and see what you guys are up to.
I did some housey stuff today, and believe me, that wasn't much...LOL. It seems to me, we have an awful lot of laundry. Either we are awfully clean or awfully dirty, I just can't figure out which...L. I"m pretty sure it's the clean side we lean to, but still... Oh well.

Barb...I didn't mean to give you a scare, by any means. You didn't mention any other symptoms your DH was having, so I assumed perhaps it was *flu like*?
Anyway, I hope he is indeed feeling much improved, and not just giving you lip service(like men sometimes do, yanno?) Sometimes though, I think we as wives have to resort to *scare tactics*...LOL!

Alida...well, that pork loin roast was *devine swine* if I do say so myself...LOL. Very tender and juicy. I almost decided to pull it instead of slice it, but perhaps I'll pull the leftovers. I use the the One Carb catsup as a base for my bbq sauce, adding some liquid smoke, lemon juice, and worcestershire, and a drop or two of tabasco, and a drop or two of liquid splenda...adjust to taste and YUM-O! I know KC is supposed to be very famous for it's BBQ, but I think mine was pretty darn good...LOL. I'll just have to motor up to KC one of these days for some bbq!

Bren...yay...you are feeling better! Good to hear from you! Some of my favorite jeans are LLBeans. Heck, I've said it before and I'll say it again, I like just about anything and everything LLBean; folllowed closely by LandsEnd and Eddie Bauer.
Which reminds me, I should get a chance to peruse Coldwater Creek this weekend

Peg...honey pie, you are just to funny! I'm pretty sure that's my punishment when I eat waaaaay off plan....oye! The heartburn and indigestion about kill me! One would think we would learn, but NOOOOOOOO!!!!! LOL. pssst....I had Mexican tonight on our dinner date, but chose the beef salad, so maybe I'll dodge the *reflux* stuff...ack!

Judy...so last week was spring break for you? Our schools are out this week, so most of our docs are gone with their kids. I may not have to work any this week, not sure yet; I'm more like on *on call* status this week. Glad you had fun with Ms O. I love it when they start to develope their own little personality. She definitely looks like a happy girl!

Bert...glad to hear you arrived back in OZ all safe and sound! Yanno, Tulsa is only about 90 miles from OKC! Maybe we can meet up one of these days!

Heather...yay for the score while shopping! It always makes me feel good to score a good bargain! Then I don't feel so guilty when I turn around and splurge...hehe. Well of course, that's how a material girl thinks...

Donna...what's up? Sooooo...do you think spring has actually sprung at your place?
I know you are so looking forward to *playing in the dirt*!

Nita...another gardener, eh? I had a small box bed garden in the back yard several years ago. Man...I was the tomato and jalapeno queen...LOL. Loved it! There is nothing like garden fresh salsa...yum-O! My friend across the street contributed fresh purple onions, so it was a joint effort, but we rocked out the *bestest* salsa that year!!! (and yes, I did eat chips with that salsa )

Teel...gosh it's been forever since we heard from you! I hope you are OK.
Please check in when and if you can....yanno...the mother hen thing is in effect here!

    Rach...you are missed.

Well, timing is everything...I hear the bell on the clothes dryer. Since I don't want to iron some of that stuff, I guess I'd better heed the d@mn dinging little bell...LOL.

Off we go into the new week....
    (((hugs always)))

Oh, I know all about f**ting! Funny--I didn't even know the word until I was sixteen years old, but I've always had the problem! Silly me. You think snoring is an annoyance when you're sharing a bed with somebody??

Being a bean-free gal has been a significant improvement.

I'm trying to alter my eating pattern this week. It's so easy to slip into everyday habits, and over time, "a little more this and that" adds up to too much of a good thing (in my case, nuts and wine). Of course, it's somewhat easier to make different choices when the cook is out of commission. (He seems to be feeling better and better. No more fever.)

I believe that there are more mysteries to low-carb than Dr. Atkins acknowledges. I wish he'd lived to write another book! R.I.P. However, I also believe that I will live to see a great many reliable studies on the benefits of low-carb, and many more books by knowledgeable nutrition experts. In my mind, the "fad" of low-fat and the fallacy of low-calorie have been exposed as bad science and unhealthy dietary information. As frustrating as low-carb can be at times, I've been more committed and more successful at this than anything else ever. Reading Jonny Bowden has certainly given me stark realizations about sugar (and its starch/flour version). I think I'll be looking at birthday cake as mere decoration from now on.

Off to my day. Good thoughts everyone.

    Good Morning!

    The week rolls on.

Peg, thanks for the ** laugh this morning. I knew what you meant!

As for your computer, as long as it has enough power, I'd agree that replacing stuff will be cheaper. When I was at Best Buy, though, I did look longingly at new computers. It's truly amazing what $1,000 can buy now. And the price of flat panel monitors has come down, too. A new monitor may be my birthday present! And it will be BIG.

What was wrong with your husband's daughter? Lump? Forgive me if you mentioned this earlier.

Shelley, good advice to Barb! I am lucky my DH does go to the doctor on a regular basis. With his heart and diabetes, he is always going for a check-up.

Your BBQ sauce recipe sounds close to mine. I got it from this site ... part of (Charski's?) Pulled Pork recipe. It's a great sauce! But feel free to mosey on over to KC anytime. Barb and I will welcome you with open arms!

Barb, so now I am wondering if your DH will go to the doctor today! He wasn't upset with you for calling the doctor, was he?

Re: Terry. Has anyone been in contact with her? I do hope everything is OK.

Donna, did you post yesterday? Sheesh. Talk about CRS.

Berta, I am glad you made it back to Oz safe and sound. Back to "real life," huh? If I recall, you did an amazing job with losing more than a few pounds while in Texas. Great job!

Heather, sounds like you went on a shopping spree! It's so much fun to buy something new. I can spend hours in a place like Linens N Things looking at all the organizational thingys.

Nita, it is time for getting the garden ready, isn't it? Gosh, I am still in Winter Mode ... even with the temps warming up. I guess I just can't believe that Spring will really happen! It was a very long Winter .....

    Brenda, how are you doing?

    Judy, how goes it?

Off to start my day. Another ad, another dollar. I love working on ads. And I can't wait until the business is a little flush so they can buy me an update for Adobe Illustrator. Then I will be in "hog heaven."

    Have a great day! XXOO
