| Barb, I'm sorry, but I had a quick chuckle when I imagined all those little old ladies in wheel chairs checking out "the new guy!" Sorry girls, he's TAKEN. Hugs and hopes sent your way that the transition will go smoothly. Perhaps I missed it ... but what did Larry say when he was told about rehab first? Oh! I remember Easters with new outfits, including a hat and gloves! Hmm. I wonder if my DGD will show up with her midriff exposed. At least she doesn't have a belly button ring (yet). Peg, OUCH (again). Your description of your foot makes mine ache. Are you sure you don't want to have an X-ray? At least if you know a toe is broken, you can tend to it correctly. Wow. It sounds like the MOVE is progressing. When is it again? Nita, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! And what a delightful tradition to give instead of receive! Shelley, Oy! Now your back? You mentioned it felt better, so whew! I hope it was just a little blip and will soon be "back" in shape. Donna, I agree with everyone re: letting your family do their own thing without you being in the middle. Heather, a little less candy is probably a good thing around the house! At least this year the granddaughters are old enough I don't have to have any. Brenda, what are your plans for Easter? Hide some egg bones for the furkids? Judy, what are your plans, too? Lucky you to have GF off! I am wondering how Rachel and Terry are doing ..... This was sort of short. I do have some computer work to do. The etch job went well, but it was just too much time on my feet and too much bending. My hip really complained when I got home. So I took a BIG pain pill before bed. That's why I got up so late yesterday morning. Wow. Those things are great! I can see how people can get hooked on 'em. Have a GOOD Thursday before Good Friday. XXOO

| From the hospital: I got here in time to catch the doc--an earlybird after my own heart! It was very reassuring to have a face-to-face, to help determine what the orders for Rehab should be, and see that all of Larry's questions are answered. Larry is much perkier than yesterday, and I'm reinforcing the need for determination and commitment on his part. He hasn't argued with the SNF decision--but then, he's been in the care of others for some time now, and he really isn't in a position to determine his own fate, beyond the activities he controls: eating and getting out of bed. He'll get the PICC (the feeding and "blood-letting" catheter) removed this morning, the last of his contraptions. He's going from jail to half-way house, and his part of the work begins in earnest. As a warning sign to him, nothing could have been more dramatic--or traumatic. At the moment, he's taken his promises to heart, but I'm not sure he fully realizes the challenges and decisions ahead over the long term. Thanks for all your support! |

| LALALALALALA..........Oh!....Bren........were you saying something?? ![]() Barb: Good to see you! You sound good, girlfriend. I had to chuckle at Alida's image of Larry and the ole ladies. It may convince him to work a little harder to get home! Alida: Good to see you too! Heather, Nita, Donna, Judy, Shel (how's the back today?), Rhonda, Bren. Shout out to you! My foot is much better today! It still hurts if I press on the bones. But, the swelling is much better. The bruises are pretty impressive! Not so much on my foot, but my toes are pretty bruised. Today is my appt with my new Doc for my yearly physical. I've got a list of questions. I'll let you know how she reacts to my questions. I'm here on and off and today. Now that my foot's gone down I've got to find a pair of black shoes. Think I'll just go over to Target and get a pair of black wedge flip flops. I was going to have a "Girlie" day with dd tomorrow but we postponed it to next Wednesday. She and the kids are coming for dinner on Sunday. She's doing much better. It looks as though that job that she thought she was going to get may come through after all. She has another interview next week. Nita: where do you get those cute smileys you have, and how do you use them? I used to have a program called "Emotipad." It was an application into which you could drop smileys and it would post them into a forum or email. I lost it, but found it again last year on my laptop. I went on the web and found that they don't work any more. I can open it, but not post anymore. Peace, Peg |

| Had a great time at the store picking out fun toys, 1 chocolate bunny each for the kids, and a nice Easter outfit and church shoes for the boys. DH picked up a couple of things too for the boys at his work so they'll be good. Saved enough money so that we can take the boys to McDonald's and The Ninja Turtles movie tomorrow. Grandparents said they'll join in the fun. Not a movie we all want to see but to see the excitement on the boys faces tomorrow will be well worth it. Today I'm visiting my mother at home since she has been home since last Saturday from her shoulder surgery. She had torn muscles for over a year in her shoulder that she finally saw the doctor for. Would have seen her earlier but was afraid I would get her sick. Oldest ds did visit her in the hospital with pictures that we had colored for her. ---------------------------------------------------------- BC - You are so lucky to have muscle definition in two of my flabbiest places. I HATE back fat. Rhonda - Howdy lady! Barb - Think old ladies will be winking at Larry? This new young stud will be a great attraction there and I bet we might get some funny stories. Alida - Glad to hear that your etching job went well and you had a happy ![]() Peg - So glad to hear that your foot is improving! Judy - Have a great Easter weekend! |

| Well, here's the scoop. Message as copied to all interested parties: >Larry's records were sent over to Carondelet Manor. Because he refused PT a few times last week, they declared him an "uncooperative" subject, and refused to admit him. "Too sick to be a likely candidate for rehab." > >Meanwhile, CIGNA received Larry's information. Their response? "He walked 250 feet with the PT yesterday. He's far too healthy and mobile to be a candidate for skilled nursing. Admittance denied." > >So...is he too healthy or too sick?? Both of us are laughing. Oh the irony. > >The net consequence: he's going home today. He swears he'll be a model recuperator. I choose to believe him. > >The case worker and CIGNA will set up home health care visits. And that's where we'll be. > >You just gotta let nature take its course. Including the nature of health care management. > I'm at home now, with Larry snoring upstairs. A friend of his came over to supervise the stair-climbing just in case, but he did fine. Whatever I have to do for the next few days--and next few weeks--we'll be fine. There's no place like home. P. S. Alida, about the hip replacement. On the inside back cover of the May Reader's Digest is an advertisement--endorsed by none other than gymnast Mary Lou Retton--for a certain type of hip replacement thingie. Can you imagine consumer advertising for body parts? Anyway, the website provided is www.biomet.com in case you'd like to check it out. |

| Alida, glad you have some decent pain pills to let you sleep. My sister-in-law used to get up in pain, put some sort of rub on her hip, and then get on her exercise bicycle for a time to loosen up her hip. But then, she didn't have to get up and go to work in the morning, either. There's no way I'd get on an exercise bike in the middle of the night! Peg, take care of that foot. As far as the smileys go, I like to use Smiley Central (www.smileycentral.com). They have oodles and oodles of smilies. Heather uses them a lot, too. Shelley, our forecast is calling for much colder with possible sleet Saturday night. We had 87 just a few days ago. A few days ago we had the furnace running in the morning, the ac running in the evening. At least the weather gives people something to talk about! Judy, have a safe trip to Dallas. I hate driving in that town! I follow the signs, and end up somewhere totally different, or the highway just ends, with no warning.....I've gotten lost there several times. I never get lost in Ft. Worth or San Antonio. Just Dallas. Anyway, have a good time with dd, if you can call moving someone fun. Heather, I'm so glad you're feeling better. I think you're wise to wait until you are completely well to get back into the exercise routine. Barb, I'm not surprised by the conflicting reports from the SNF & the insurance people. Perhaps being at home is the absolute best thing for Larry. I'd rather recuperate at home than in any kind of facility. I hated having to put my dad in a nursing home - he didn't like interacting with the other "old" people there, didn't want to eat in the dining room, actually got beligerent when they took him to meals. Finally one of the head nurses came in and told them to let him eat in his room, that not everyone liked to be with other people, he did NOT have to eat in the dining room. Bless her heart. My concern is that this might overwhelm you - don't let it. Take care of yourself, too, physically, mentally, and emotionally. (Actually, from your posts, it sounds like you have a handle on the situation, and are coping nicely.) Today has turned out to be another beautiful day, mild temperatures, blue skies, but will turn on us soon. I had a small migraine episode right after lunch. These are rare, and quite annoying. I get the visual flashes and light show, and afterwards some nausea, only a slight headache, but then I'm in slow motion for several hours. A hot cup of green mint tea has helped. I've been double-checking every journal entry and work order I've put into the computer, as well as every receipt I've done for rents, just to be sure I've done them right. We're off tomorrow, and I don't want to put any of this off until Monday - I'm doing reexam interviews all day Monday, so any work not done today would be put off until Tuesday. Whoever I've missed, have a great Thursday, and now that the weekend is looming, all of you have a very nice weekend.

| Barb - I'm glad to hear that you are choosing to believe that he'll be a model recuperator. If our own spouses don't believe in us then I'm not sure we could believe in ourselves. (((Hugs))) It's all in the Lord's hands. Shelley - We've had snow here for the next 3 days. I guess the winter is a long one so we can appreciate spring when it finally stays. Nita - sorry to hear about that migraine. I have had one of those before with the light show and thought it would be an enjoyable experience if pain wasn't involved. Peg - I do love smilies! |

| Just a quickie -- (but note to Barb: Sheesh. I had no idea a place could turn you down. But at least the insurance company gave you a no before hand, so you will not have any nasty surprises. Always trying to look at the positive, LOL. But now that it's a done deal, Larry will thrive at home!) Paula's cosmetic site has a free "Mineral Make-Up Report" for anyone interested .... http://www.cosmeticscop.com/bulletin/bb.asp?type=0407

| Oh! Barb, I went to that hip replacement site ... and bookmarked it for when I really start the process. Boss wants me to wait until January, when we are not busy. We shall see. Thanks for the link!

| Hi Gang! Well, back from the Dr. I wasn't terribly impressed with her. I've seen her twice now. Last time (after my "records" arrived) she said that she didn't have time to read all the records because she has so many patients. Hmmmmmm. Well, today, I just kept referring her to my "records" to answer the questions that she asked. I was in and out in less than a half hour. The actual physical was less than 10 minutes. Don't you think that that is pretty sketchy for an annual physical?? Yeah, I do too. She seemed distracted. I can't wait until I know her well enough to ask her what is wrong. My thyroid was well within "normal" range. I checked it out on other sites (thank you, Barb) and it truly is. Dang it! I was hoping that the cause of weight gain is thyroid. Wouldn't it be wonderful to blame thyroid and not my stupid EATING! She did find some blood in my vagina. What is that all about?? She didn't seem to be terribly bothered by it. I would have liked it if she had told me why. All she said was: "We find that sometimes." Barb: Hope it's going well for you and Larry this first evening at home. I have Cigna insurance too. It's been a pain for me. Though they seeme to be on target for my needs, I am paying $1,000 a month for the privilege of using them!! Sheesh!! Good to talk to you all this day. I hope that it being a good Maundy Thursdcay is working out for you all. I was going to go to church this evening, but the price of gas has risen to over $3.25, and I have to be careful about going distances. Or just going at all!! Peace, Peg |
