Hi Gang!

Judy: I called my dd in Carrollton and found that they are doing fine. No loss of electricity, no big storms. Yay! I also had a wonderful 45 minutes phone conversation with her. Miracles still happen!!

Off to bed for me. Running around spending money all day for the house. Tomorrow it's off to IKEA with a rented truck.

See ya later,
Peg

Tweet tweet! The earlybird arises. I can hear the birds chirping madly outside, too. They must like this wet weather.

Peg, the photo is great. I guess I only see the good photos of you, because I never would have thought you weren't photogenic. You always look radiant--and I guess that would be especially true of an anniversary celebration in Tahiti.:great:

Donna, hope you can put up that leg today. I agree with Shelley about not prolonging the recovery.

Judy, I know these are wild days at school. The natives get restless this close to vacation. I think year-round school would be a better idea, and a more realistic preparation for real life. The college grads who come to work at my office have such a hard time adjusting to regular hours--not to mention having only two weeks of vacation. I think that's inhumane myself. Everybody should start with at least three. The Europeans have a much better idea--everybody gets a month, and usually all at the same time. NEVER go to Europe in August. Everything you want to visit is closed because everybody is on holiday--most of them in Greece. So especially don't go to Greece in August.

When I got home from work yesterday, a young man was standing on my doorstep trying to raise the dead (that would be my napping dh). Turns out he was selling alarm systems. I quizzed him for a long, long time, and finally decided that his "free, promotional" installation was, in fact, a good deal, with some extra gadgets that will come in handy--remote controls, etc. So...I signed the deal. Within half an hour, the installers came and put it in, and (as far as I know) we're good to go. Somehow I'm still waiting for the "catch" to kick in. This is a replacement system. In our neighborhood, the house that isn't alarmed is the easy target. You simply need one in self-defense.

Dh seems to be feeling better. He's fixing food for himself as he wants it, and keeping his normal nocturnal hours. Doc visit today--and hopefully a shave and a haircut so he'll look less like Bigfoot (a very skinny Bigfoot).

That two lbs. is still hanging on. I'm going to cease and desist with some of the "little extras" I've been piling on: nuts (in the OMM), extra cream, too much chocolate bark. And MORE WATER. I could also stand to increase the cardio, so...time to get walking.

For now, I'd better get moving toward the office.

Good Thursday everyone. It came fast for me this week.

Good morning!

I had a wonderful sleep last night and woke up refreshed ... but late.

Thank you all for your birthday wishes. They were good for my soul. And my sister actually remembered and called last night! Life is good.

So quickly ...

Donna, please don't cut the darn grass! Keep you foot UP as much as possible. Listen to our resident nurse Shelley! Foot up = less swelling = less pain. ~Rant over~ -- You know we are harping just because we love you!

Barb, a month's vacation in Europe? Minimum of three weeks? Oh, how I wish. I only get one week. And two weeks isn't offered until I've been there FIVE friggin' years. Boy, am I ready to take a few days off!

Good news that DH is fixing some of his own food!

And congrats on the new alarm system. I've never had one (knock on wood). Here's hoping it's all they said it will be.

Peg, oh my. That picture is definitely a framer. It is gorgeous! Also, you look so radiant and THIN!!!! A big truck to take to Ikea? That sounds like FUN. (Seriously)!

Shelley, thanks for the PM. That song game looks like fun. We had more rain yesterday, too. But the next two days look good. I am so glad Induction is going well for you. I have to start AGAIN after my birthday yesterday. I won't even tell you what I ate. But what the hey, it was my birthday!

I didn't realize OK didn't have basements, either. BUT, I forgot about attics! Great place for stuff. The old family home in Chicago (where my sister still lives) has a huge attic. I'll bet parts of my life are still up there.

Judy, thank goodness that tornado didn't materialize. Glad you are SAFE and dry at the moment.

Brenda, Come Back, Little Brenda!

Have a wonderful day everyone. XXOO

I tried to come here yesterday but LCE site wouldn't pull up for me. Very happy to pop in today. Took me awhile to catch up with nearly 2 miles on my treadmill here. What a blessing it is to walk and surf the Internet here. Every bit of exercise counts. This manual treadmill has me sweating so bad I rush to the shower when I'm done because I stink so bad I can't stand myself - lol.

Now that the weather is getting hot I bought some potassium pills at Wal-mart today. After having problems with my electrolytes last year because of all my walking and sweating in the heat I don't want to make the same mistakes. Only 3% of my daily requirement but with my no salt and Morton lite salts I should be okay. Last year I went no salt practically not knowing better. My father said when he was my age the doctor had him taking salt pills. Wow!

Be sure to stop by my journal to see my new pics of my boys okay?
------------

Donna - You are one hard worker aren't you? My DH says I have a case of OCD and I believe you might share this wonderful blessing. Working when you shouldn't be my perfectionist friend. Take it easy if you can.

Nita - Howdy!! Hope you have a good Thursday.

Shelley - I think I remember the posts on the eye lash makeup. So I don't sound silly can you fill me in again? // I'm a bit worried about you. Prayers sent that the floods stay far from you my friend.

Barb - I bought wax paper for your recipe today. Another step closer - lol. I'm planning on making it Saturday. // Hope the doc says good things about your dh.

Alida - Happy Birthday!!

Peg - I saw your pictures pretty lady!! Glad to hear you had such a good time. You have a handsome hubby too.

Judy - loved the plugger cartoon!!

Good morning!

Wow. Not too much activity after I posted yesterday!

Heather, I know there are many foods high in potassium. Do a google check. I also take potassium pills -- three a day. I've never had electrolyte problems, but I know it can be serious. Take care!

Yesterday morning, I told Bob to make an appointment with the vet to put Buddy to sleep. It seemed to be time. When I got home, I found out he made the appointment for today at 4:30. This morning Buddy seemed a little better -- at least he ate something and he did come into the BR when I got up. So now I am not sure what to do. But in my heart, I do know it's time. I may decide to wait until Monday. I'll see how he reacts the rest of this morning and when I get home. SIGH.

Always something.

Have a wonderful day, everyone. Donna -- (((HUGS))) XXOO

Friday! This week has flown by. Usually that's a good sign.

The doc was almost giddy with joy over Larry's improved blood profile. He says he's definitely turned the corner--something that appeared to be true from the way he is feeling, but it's good to have evidence. I took him to the barber shop for a good clean-up, and he looks human again. Very thin in the face, but more like himself. Onward and upward.

For one reason or another, I'm still in the doldrums--my version of depression, which is approximately equivalent to other people's "normal" I know this because I've been skimping on home workouts. I think it's a spring thing, but certainly part of it is dealing with the change in tempo surrounding to dh's illness.

Thanks to a heads-up from my sister, I got a good deal on a plane ticket to Denver in August. The sisters will be doing our Barbeque competition thing then. $140 roundtrip isn't bad--couldn't drive it for that with current gas prices. Check out Frontier if you have travel in mind. They have special fares to Mexico and elsewhere--today only.

Heather, the little boys are adorable.

Peg, I know you're over-burdened right now--literally. I hope when Monday comes (I hear the Mamas and the Papas singing it now), you'll be reclining in your new place with your feet up and a big smile on your face.

Off to the card factory. Card shops should be frantically busy for the next 48 hours as Mother's Day asserts its pressure on offspring from coast to coast. I promise you, Hallmark didn't invent Mother's Day--let alone the guilt attached to it. You moms--keep your expectations low, and you won't be disappointed.

Hugs all around.

Alida, we've posted simultaneously, as usual. I'm so sorry about Buddy. Waiting until Monday won't make it easier to do what compassion requires, unless you foresee a recovery--which appears unlikely. This is very hard. Do what seems best to you.

Hi guys,
Worked called yesterday and asked if I would work today and I said OK. I got up at 0445 and showered, did my hair and was just finishing my make up and the phone rang. Seems the other nurse showed up after all(they thought she was out of town), so they didn't need me.
So, I've been doing ironing, vacuuming and am about to mop the floors and clean the bathrooms. Dang...at least I look good(with fresh make up and hair)!!! LOL!
Oh well, such is life...gotta laugh...it's better than crying...hehe.

I'll try and get back in later. If not, everyone have a terrific weekend and enjoy *The Day*. We're all moms...to 2 legged critters or 4 legged critters...or sometimes to even our boys we married (well, yanno...when they're sick or fussey, or have had a bad day).

later chickadees,
(((hugs)))

Morning ladies. I didn't make it in yesterday cause it was "invoice" day. Just what I needed when I'm still hobbling around. The leg is still very, very swollen but tomorrow I get to take the bandages off. You wouldn't believe how much I want and need this. I've been very close to just ripping them off so many times...but then I'd be back to square one.

I'm also getting a haircut tomorrow. I'm a little embarrassed about going, mainly because I got mad at my hair a couple of weeks ago and took the scissors to it myself. I don't think I did a terrible job...just definitely not professional. Now she gets to fix my mistakes. That's why I leave her a big tip! lol

Thanks for the advice everyone. I didn't think I was blowing things out of proportion.

Alida: I'm so very sorry about Buddy. Wasn't that long ago I had to make that decision with Lucy and I still feel the pain. We'll be here for you. ((((hugs))))

Do you have any predictions for Survivor? I was sooo glad that Yau Man pulled out that imunity idol at the last minute. Shame on Dreamz after being given that brand new truck. I realize it's a game...but that was dirty pool.

Barb: That's wonderful news about Larry. Does this mean you'll have to be handing over the spatulas and other cooking utensils soon? lol

I bet if you put one of your tapes on and made yourself do it, that you'd get right back into the routine very fast. One thing about exercise is that we start to crave it once we get into it.

Judy: I agree with you that I'd shoot anyone who phoned at that time too. Anytime the phone rings at an odd hour my heart usually jumps expecting bad news. Hmmmm, I wonder why bad news only comes in the middle of the night?

Heather: So you like the manual treadmill? Good for you. It will definitely be a workout.

****
Dh had a ballgame last night so I went home and went right out into my garden. (my form of therapy). I sat on the ground and pulled myself along on my butt and worked with my flowers for about 2 hours. (See Shelley....no damage to the leg lol) By the time I was done and the sun was going behind the mountain I was in a much better frame of mind. Took the dogs for a walk and then had some dinner.

Lots of season finales coming up. Grey's Anatomy looks good next week, as does ER. Then I guess it's back to reruns...or I catch up on the shows that I didn't get to see. Either way, it's no big deal and I can stay outside getting dirty and breaking my nails until the sun goes down.

This weekend the temps are supposed to get into the 30's. Now that's more normal weather for us. I already have a bit of a tan but I'll be careful not to get a burn. Looks like I'll be running to the nursery for more plants to start planting my pots. Dh will be putting together the new park bench that he bought last night. After 24 years of working on this yard it's almost the way I want it. Although, I'm sure I'll always find something to change.

If I don't get in here this weekend, I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing Mother's Day. Smart words Barb: Keep your expectations low and you won't be disappointed. I'll remember that.

Oops, Alida...
I guess I missed it the first time...about Buddy.
I'm sad that you will have to face this. Gosh...it's so hard.
I, too, remember the sad, sad feeling of losing the Fu Kitty.
Keep us posted. Sending hugs and love your way

flying by....
DH and I just got back from our mom's day dinner date; he may have to work on Mom's day...not sure yet. Anyhoo, he also brought me a doz longstemed white roses. They are so pretty! I've never had white ones before, but they are beautiful.
DD's gift package arrived today as well, so I'm good to go...LOL.

We got caught in a down pour just as we were going into the restaurant
Actually, the sun had been shining all day, then as we were leaving, it started looking cloudy in a big hurry! Man, that storm moved in fast. Rained like a son of a gun for about 15 minutes, then stopped as quickly as it had started. But...with just that quick down pour, water was rolling up over the curbs making the drive home slow going. Our ground is just so super saturated with all the rain we've had, the water has no place to go. I think we may be nearing the end of this bad weather week, they say...at least I hope. Now...we probably won't have rain again until September...LOL. Such is weather in OOOOklahoma. ha!

Gotta scoot...DH needs help with something...

(((hugs to all)))

Questions of the day........... why is it that in a community kitchen or lounge no one ever takes the initiative to clean up more that the absolute minimum for the mess they make -- if they do that at all? The teacher's lounge in my area was NASTY. If the health department had come by for a check, they would probably have made us haul the fridge out. Earlier in the week I couldn't stand it anymore and stuck a sign on the fridge that said anything left on Friday was on its way to the trash. This afternoon I tore into it. About 20 people eat in this area. They just assumed that I would do it eventually, I guess. How many do you think came to help or made any effort to purge their stuff or clean up anything? The answer is 2. One is a coach/dept chair and the other was a teacher that just happened in. We cleaned the fridge, the cabinets and microwaves and disinfected everything. (Janitors have some cool cleansers.) While we were on a roll we dumped about a quarter of big dumpster (really, no really, that's no exaggeration) of old papers, magazines, books and just plain crap. The coach and I ended up spending about 2 1/2 hours overhauling the place. I swear he must have been military at some time in his life because it didn't take much for him to go along with me on tossing stuff. Any bets on how long it will last? The first person that gripes may get a fist in the face.

Hey, Donna.......... 30s are cold for us! Just ran a converter.......... that's our 86. Yeah, that's nice weather. I do believe that you live with the biggest extremes of any of us.

Shelley -- Yea on the white roses. DH bought me a very cool looking orchid plant. I couldn't keep the last one I had blooming. Maybe I'll do better with this one.

Barb -- When you figure out how to get your Mojo back, let me in on it. I desperately need to know. It was good to read of Larry's improvement. I know you are please about that.

Alida -- Thinking about you and Buddy. What did you decide to do?

Heather -- I'll have to check the pictures of your boys. You are so dedicated to exercise. Like I said to Barb....... I need to get back to it.

Peg -- moving?? Boy, I've been there with DD recently. I know her move was much less that yours, and it took three of us two solid days to get her in decent shape.

Nita and Berta -- big wave out to you. Berta, is this the reunion weekend? How's you husband doing?

I'm walking on my manual treadmill now because unless I'm very ill or hurt I promised myself no Internet time unless I'm walking on this. Wasn't able to get on it until now because I was babysitting, then having lunch with ds at school while DH was home with M because she was sleeping. I've been looking forward to seeing what is up with all you. Have come to think of this place as another home full of wonderful friends.

---------------------------

Alida - Sorry to hear about your Buddy. (((Hugs)))

Barb - you don't think you might be in the slumps because things are getting better with DH and you are scared they won't stay this way? Don't know why that jumped into my brain but thought maybe it was something I should post in case it was women's intuition.

Shelley - Ain't that the truth about being mom's to our boys we married. Everyone thinks my DH is so tough but if they saw him with a sniffle they'd know better. :jump:

Judy - Hey lady!! Hope you have a good weekend! // When I was reading about how you cleaned the kitchen at the school I thought, "I would have helped poor Judy." I worked at a call center where once a month a reminder e-mail went out that the janitor was about ready to clean out the refrigerator. This was after 3 days of e-mails letting everyone have fair warning. I can only imagine what the place would have looked or smelled like after a few months. You know that these same people would throw huge fits if someone treated their homes this way.

Donna - Oh yes, I love my treadmill. Have a nice haircut tomorrow. I love being pampered at the salon (I'm saying with a bit of jealousy) but have grown very good at cutting corners even in this department. I cut my own hair including bangs, my DH dyes my hair and I pluck my eye brows.
