You know Shelley, I've been wondering if I should mix it up some, too. It seems that when I was in OWL I could manage to keep going down when I kept the calories app 1450 and the carbs could go up in the 40s. SBD is the only one of the LC type diets that I have never read or tried. It seems that I often do better by doing something different. Actually, I think it's probably boredom (I get Diet ADD--attention deficit disorder). Maybe I'll look in the library tomorrow and see if the have the SBD book.

As for getting my switch to trip....... I spent a large portion of yesterday afternoon moving jpg files to a card for a digital picture frame. My best look - weight, hair, and all was about three years ago. I need to regain that look. I was surprised at how much it shows when I compared pictures. You don't realize the small changes until it slaps you in the face.

Monday morning. Fresh start. I think I'll just skip Fitday for yesterday. 50% alcohol (?) probably won't look too good there. I was busy and didn't eat much. When I got home from the opera about 5 o'clock, my across-the-hall neighbor had a spur-of-the moment cocktail party in full swing with people in the building. So it was wine and cheese and olives for dinner. Again. But the Wine Diet is NOT a good weight management technique.

In any case, the scales said 133 this morning. I'll try to eat more protein, more veggies, and less fruit of the vine today. But I'm very happy to have overcome the trend of the past few months.

Sooo, was I the one that made some comment about keeping the accountability thread going? I think the line was "oh ye of little faith." I admit that I have been a backslidder. Fitday and I have not bonded as we once did. I have made one discovery lately that seems to be helpful in a number of ways. Instead of eating yogurt and all-bran for breakfast (as I have done for years), I have had a bowl of Maggie's for the last few mornings. Breakfast has lasted longer -- which is a good thing. Starting next week my lunch will be almost 2 hours later than it has been since school started. And, as you might expect, the exra morning fiber has things moving right on along. The combination of the two has resulted in -.5 lb. That's not a speedy way to get to my goal, but at least it is something in the right direction.

**I like the idea of having this food specific thread. Sometimes food accountability gets lost in the tracking thread.

Judy, I like hanging around a food thread, too. I have a bit of catching up to do at Fitday, but there's nothing like writing things down to be a call to accountability.

It's late. Gotta hang it up for today. Back tomorrow!

Although today's eating wasn't even close (had a wrap from Chic-Fil-A for lunch and tamales and spanish rice for dinner), I did check out a South Beach Diet book from the library. Gotta love the school library. I can keep the book as long as I want. Heck they had two copies and this one had never even been checked out (since 2003). Reading is on the agenda for the weekend. It's going to be cold, so that is a worthy weekend activity.

Judy, that unread South Beach book from the school library is probably a sign that "preoccupation with body image" isn't a cultural problem at your school. But then, most teenagers don't go about that sort of thing with practical sense. Neither do most adult women actually.

Last evening, my friend made a lovely dressing for a fresh spinach and broccoli salad (that's what was in the fridge) and grilled a beautiful thick boneless pork chop. Unfortunately, the outdoor grill was frozen, but the rarely-used indoor broiler did the job. I'll have to try this at home sometime. For tonight, I have the remains of chicken marsala and sauteed spinach from a restaurant on Wednesday. Very fragrant in my fridge--I need to get it gone! But it's handy, since that cook will be out of town until Sunday, and I'm on my own.

I'll try to get back to Fitday later today and catch up.

well, it's been right at 2 weeks since I tried my little tweak to see if I could get the scales to move in the downward direction.
And, I'm bummed out to say, it didn't work; quiet the opposite! Yikes!!
Up 2 lbs! Well, d*mn! Actually, I'm not all broken hearted about it; it was a very valuable experiment to find out that my body can NOT and will NOT tolerate moderate carbs no matter how *good* they are.
Soooooo...this tells me I should just stick to what's working, even if it's not working(at the present time)...LOL!
I'm sure the reason it wasn't *working* was the fact I was inadvertently letting the carb creep in....my bad! duh!!!

Anyhooo....as of yesterday, I'm back to plain ole Atkins LC. Not induction levels (yet), but LC in the form of meat, veggies, salad, very limited fruit, and perhaps a low carb tortilla here and there.

The other significant *tweak* I'm working hard on, is decreasing my intake of splenda and cutting down the cf diet colas to 1 or none, per day.
I intend to get to the point I CAN drink my coffee and hot tea without additives!!!

So, friends....I'm baaaaaackkkkk to being accountable here, in this thread, with my daily totals...for better or worse...with this thread, I thee wed! ha!

back after dinner with totals!

((((hugs))))

Okay, Shelley. I'm here with ya.

I don't think you need to do induction levels of LC. Just restoring a comfortable LC level is enough...and patience.

I'm thinking diet sodas are not such a good thing. Limit of one is probably a good idea.

I always use half-n-half in my coffee (no sweetener though) and probably end up consuming quite a few dairy carbs during the course of the day. Heavy cream is still a good choice, because it is "sweet" and thick and I don't have to use very much to lighten up the coffee.

Good luck!

Hi Gang! I decided to stop in here and see whazzup.

Bren: I bought the new Diet Power. I know what you mean about the judgment! I consistently get "D's" and "F's" on my nutrition "grade." But, I just ignore it, or laugh, and look at the nutrition allotment. Frankly, I can't imagine starting over with Fitday either. I have all my records for a couple of years on Diet Power. It is jarring to look at it "graphed out." Boy, howdy, I've been dealing with the same 10 or 15 pounds for a loooooong time.

But, if I increase my water, I begin to lose. Now, tell me why I even stop drinking my water? Tell me, huh? Because I am

Peace, Peg

Talking Re: Induction Junction

today's scoop:
1363 cal
77g fat
111g pro
62g carb
27g fiber
35g net carb

to windy to walk today I'm getting cabin fever!!! Just not into the WATP videos, despite doing one day before yesterday...ack! I'm an outdoor kinda gal...sigh.
I'm not to distraught over not exercising really; I'm trying to go a little lower each day on carbs and hit induction level for a few days, and to be quite truthful, my body is feeling a little like *induction flu*...loss of energy, headache, etc. So when I feel my energy return in full force, I'll hit the trail again...wherever the trail might be...indoors or out. LOL! I'm just ready for biking weather to be here! I want to pedal !!

over and out!

Peeking my head in the door, too. Recommitted to LC on Jan. 1.

Since the boys went back to school on Jan. 13th, I've been doing a stricter version. Haven't really tallied the numbers each day, that's ok for now. As of this morning I've lost 12.5 pounds. Initial loss chalked up to carb bloat from all the naughty stuff during the holidays. Nevertheless, I'm heading in the right direction.

Not doing true induction, instead, my own program that I know works. I'd love to check in here, but I don't usually track numbers, it causes my hair to hurt. Later on I know I'll have to. Although, it would be to my advantage to at least write down "what" I'm eating. That info is quite handy when you need to tweak things during a plateau.

That's my deal.

You are my hero Susie!! I'm a stagnant blob. I put on a pair of pants yesterday that I know fit last year. I took the darned things with me to Chicago when I went last February. They were disgustingly tight.... as in don't want to zip tight. I've got to get motivated by something! Whatever you did is defintely working.

You can just check in here if you want to just to say you've had a cheat free day, good day, bad day, whatever....or heck, just pop in and cheer us other gals on to a 12.5 lb loss!

And....I'm proud to say, I'm almost drinking my coffee WITHOUT splenda!
Down to 1...yes, that's ONE diet rite per day...which is really a big deal for me as well as giving up the sweetners in my tea and coffee.
I really think it's helping....
color me happy!!!

Judy, I'd love to be your hero. LOL I have quite a bit of weight to lose, I'm doing small goals, more obtainable.

SistaShell, thanks for the woots! This has been a long process, to get my head back in the game. I'm proud of YOU for cutting back on AS. It IS a big deal to drink your coffee w/o sweetener. Do you think stevia causes you to crave sweets like the Splenda? I'm thinking it probably wouldn't. Let us know.

Woohoo, Susie Wish I had the willpower right now to cut down on AS like and Shelley are doing. I know I'm dependent on the caffeine/cola/AS combo in it's every evil form. I'm really interested in how that goes for you both.

Looking back at the "original" induction period when we started this thread, roughly the first two weeks in January, I lost 1.7 pounds. Of course, that was some of what I'd gained since the end of summer, but we all know how that goes and I'm glad it's gone anyway.

Judy, jump in any time. It's not even one day at a time, but one meal/snack at a time for me.

I let my upgrade to the new version of DietPower lapse. I'm not sure the improvements were worth the $$. So back to the tried and and true but often frustrating
