2008 dawns clear and cold in KC. I'm going for a walk in Loose Park to get my circulation pumping.

Happy New Year to all! Earlybird Shelley made sure we got off on the right track....er, thread.

"Charlie Wilson's War" is an entertaining movie, considering that it was written by Aaron Sorkin, who created all the great characters and dialog for "The American President" and "West Wing." Only these characters are from real life, and the movie shows just what a sordid and sleazy process goes on in Washington. Laws are like sausage--you don't want to see how they're made, or what goes into them. It's the price of freedom. God bless America!

My stepson delivered the news that his son and his girlfriend are expecting a baby in August. Unfortunately without benefit of marriage--or any visible means of support. This is heartbreaking on several levels, but we will pray for a healthy pregnancy and a happy baby.

This is bound to be an interesting year. They all are!
Blessings in abundance to all of you, my friends.
With love, Barb

Happy New Year!
I wish everyone a very happy, healthy, slimming and fantastic 2008!

I haven't checked the Induction thread yet. I am sure there are some posts there already from those actually starting today. Yikes. Some even started yesterday. Me? I will probably put on another pound before tomorrow.

Bob now has the head cold I have. So we spent a snuffly sneezy night watching old Planet of the Apes movies. We did stay up and hugged each other at midnight. We think 2008 will be good. We won at the casino, my hip is done, my sister will be moving to her new place soon, he has a job, I start getting SS in May, and our van will be paid off in May. All good things!

Peg, your recap of "us" was wonderful to read. Thank you. And your new friends sound so interesting. Anthropologist? What's he digging for in Northern CA? LOL about staying up until EST Midnight!

Judy, add me to you and Peg as someone who will need constant encouragement. LOL at "ye of little faith!" I did have my pizza last night!

Barb, Bob and I saw "Charlie Wilson's War" and I agree 100%. Not only is it amazing how things get "done" in Washington ... it's also amazing how things are "not done" (following through with the schools in Afghanistan). All in all it's a great movie. Hopefully Bob will be well enough to sit through "Sweeney Todd" today. I am so glad you and a friend enjoyed the evening together! And some legal Chicken Salad sounds like a real good idea. I have to remember to boil some eggs and make some OMMs.

Sigh about your stepson's son's baby. (Grand stepson)? But they chose to have the baby, that is good. We will all pray for a healthy, happy and loved little one.

Brenda, going back to Protein Power? I know that has worked great for you in the past. I find I need the positive reinforcement of LOSS to get my brain in gear. It would be real easy to revert back if, after a few days of Induction, no loss is seen on the scale. Once the pounds start to go, it becomes much easier to stick with the program.

Shelley, thanks for starting the new thread. I agree with Peg. You have a knack for catchy phrases. I love OWL's Nest! The picture of Kassie is darling. Is she calming down at all???

Donna, where, oh where are you, my friend?

Berta, we know where you are! Shorts????

Heather, still playing the Rock Band, huh? Must be one heck of a program! If it makes you feel any better, I had pizza last night.

And Rachel, if you read this, Happy New Year to you and Roger. And May your next post allow you more LCE time! We all got spoiled when you were in Georgia.

Time to see if Bob is up. His nose was stuffy last night so he may have had a rough night. This is the first time in years that either of us has actually had a cold. Happy New Year to everyone. Love you all. And thank you for all your support during 2007. You are the best! XXOO

You know it's going to be a good year when you get an unexpected day off right from the beginning. I had just assumed that the "inservice" day tomorrow was a work day. Oh no!!! It's a comp day (holiday). I don't have to go back to work until Thursday!

Morning gang!! Up until midnight playing rock band again. It really is a fun game and Jay just loves it. He has asked me to play this morning with him which I let him know I'll do after I get caught up on my e-mails and shower from my morning exercise. It's so wonderful to not have any holidays until possibly 4th of July that I'll have to be surrounded by food again. Tonight is Biggest Loser on TV that DH and I will weight train. Then of course we'll get some more rock band in. lol

Happy New Year all!

Watching the Rose Parade. A California necessity! I'll be back maybe. Today is "undecorate" day. Celebrated with all the old geezers here at the ofh. I guess I should have known that they would come out for a game playing night. I was severely tromped at Scrabble - twice! But, it was good, I suppose to meet and talk with many of them.

Good to see us all stopping by the fire. I'm halfway through my first water of the day, and have had my healthy bkfst. I'm going over to a new friends house in a few minutes ~ this is the one I met the other night, the Anthropologist (a woman, Alida), to possibly help her hang pictures.

We have yet to empty out the cupboards and refrigerator. Also, dh didn't go shopping yet, so I am on my own for snacks tonight. I'll see what I can eat at the lunch today.

See ya later,
Peg

Ok, Whew.......

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We're off to a great start, even if there's some gritting of teeth involved

More and more snow yesterday, last night, today. Bless our neighbor's heart, who plowed our driveway with his truck before my eyes were hardly open. Jerry's back's still twitchy and Dad could have used the snowblower, but Bob (yes, neighbor BOB) cleared it in five minutes. We've always kept their sidewalks cleared along with ours since it's no extra trouble, so in return once or twice a year if Bob's home after big snow he plows us out without a word. It's a nice neighborliness on a block more inclined to waves in passing.

Are most of you watching sports this afternoon? There seems to be a Monk-a-thon playing in the invalid dh's bedroom. I'm staying far away, already Monk'd up to here, otherwise I'd be companiable and knit for a while. You'd think the spiral tube socks would go more quickly with an easy pattern, fat yarn, and no heel, but I run out of steam after about an inch. Seems I get bored easily when there's no challenge and too frustrated when there is. Story of my life

Alida, PP has been my woe of choice for the past 1-1/2 yrs. Just like any other woe, one can fudge (no pun intended) only so much!

Bob's got your cold. Rats! We'll hope it doesn't develop into anything, since he's got job training soon.

Barb, probably not the best new year's news for your stepson, but I do pray that they make the best of what they've been given, without blame, and for the good of the baby. Is this the stepson who lived with you for a while?

Peg, can hardly believe you'd lose at Scrabble. Although now that I think of it, my Mom could beat me hands down at almost any word game. I might know more words, but boy, she was the mistress of strategy, and that's what wins, isn't it. Needless to say, in Dominos she squashed me like a bug! Good memories

Judy, woohoo on an unexpected day off! Now that can only be good sign! So how are you going to spend your new found holiday?

Heather, the rock band game must be so much fun! And plenty of exercise to boot. Got to love that combination.

Shelley, thanks for starting us off in the New Year, both this thread and the Induction Junction I loved Kassie's picture, by the way. What a little doll. Are you working at all this week?

Donna, where art thou?

Bert, sunning yourself?

I need to start the furgirls off right with a good brushing, teeth cleaning, and toe nail trim. Won't they be happy, LOL. And now I hear dh rustling in the kitchen Later, kids!

Very good thought provoker on the home page Peg. I so need to come back and get things going again. I have to admit, I have been a lurker for last year and have enjoyed your stories, felt your pains, cheered your successes, and missed all of you.

I'm not ready to start keeping my numbers (which I can do in the other thread) - but with the loss of my mother this last year, and my oldest son moving out - I'm finding that I am quite lonely. I spend my days at home, working, and don't have much personal contact with anyone. I think I just want to start chatting with you all again.

so, I'll start back here first, and in my journal. I just can use a little more social, emotional, and willpower supoort. I think that is what finally lost me last year.

Thanks for being here, and keeping this going.
