| Hi, Brenda. Thanks for starting off the new month. I'm a little tardy chiming in, because my boss granted me a "free day" to collect my thoughts, and I'm taking it. Besides, the Prez (yes THE Prez) is in KC today, and paying an actual visit to Hallmark. Just because he is, after all, the PREZ, I would have turned out to see him address a "selected group" of Hallmarkers had I been invited, but I was not. So...I'm staying out of the way. Will there ever be an end to "important tax documents" in the mail??? I've procrastinated pulling together the stuff for my accountant, and that isn't too bad a thing, because they keep pouring in. I also received a copy of my credit report today--a consequence of the credit card fraud alert--and I'm looking like a credit angel. My friend and I had a delightful get-acquainted dinner last night with my sister and her husband--dodging the presidential blockade, which is occupying the Plaza area. Yesterday was, in fact, a breathtaking day from beginning to end. I'm just starting to come down and confront reality--a very nice reality, to be sure. But there's lots to think about. I kept my appt. with the "shrink" in the morning, and she was a very good sounding-board for all recent events--I think I left her a little breathless too, but in a good way. Now I must get on with prep for my dinner party tomorrow night. Not a lot to do, and I have all day to do it. And tomorrow as well. I am contemplating what "ladies of leisure" might do all day. If it's me--make a SCHEDULE!! Sorry to effuse so self-centeredly, but I'm sure you understand. Look for the Groundhog tomorrow. |

| On this snowy, cold morning we awoke to the phone ringing. Not a good sign I know. But, the news was wonderful! I am a great aunt again. Baby girl (no name yet) was born at 4 this morning to my neice after only 4 hours labour. She is 9 lb. 10 oz. and both mom and baby are healthy. We've been waiting anxiously for this news as my neice was absolutely huge. What a wonderful way to start the day!!! On the other hand, why does it take a death to make a family closer? I bet I could count on two hands the number of times dh and his brother have called each other. Since dfil passed away they must talk 3 times a week. And now our neice that we haven't seen for a couple of years is calling us and telling us she loves us. I'm really happy this has happened and we feel close again, but it's a shame that it's happened the way it did. I am absolutely swamped with work so I'm not going to spend any more time here. I'm thinking about all of you and hope to be back later.

| Happy Groundhog Day! Lil critter will be plenty annoyed to get dragged out for a weather report. This is my third Saturday in a row, considering I was let loose for a while by my boss. I think I've "collected my thoughts" now. I've also visited my attorney, my financial counselor, and Wal-Mart to get my affairs in order. Tonight: dinner party at my house. Not entirely low-carb friendly, but close. I'll be back later to see who's here. Meanwhile, as soon as the sun comes up a little, I'll probably put on my sneaks and go for a walk/run outdoors. At my friend's instigation, we're signed up for a 4-mile "race" on March 15. So...better get huffing. Take care of you. |

| Barb........looks like you are already getting the appropriate mindset for retirement. I laughed at something you said yesterday after talking with the "shrink". Quote:
Looks like we are going to Tyler in a little while. DFIL's computer is down and DMIL's TV is out. He will be resistant to DH bringing it home for repair....... but it desperately needs to be reformatted. We think he has some seriuous spyware problems. She is resistant to getting a new TV because they don't come in "pretty wood cabinets" anymore. Getting her to go along with getting both a new TV and a console to put it on may be harder than prying his computer away. It should be interesting. |

| Good luck with dfil and dmil, Judy....sounds like quite a project. Donna! Congrats on the new grand niece. Happy for your good news! Quote:
Walmart? Hope Peg is safely in KY and everyone else is safe at home. Waves Not sure what today will bring. The snow has stopped and the roads plowed, but it makes me shiver every time I look outside. I'll probably do the minimum errands possible. Need to make a cleaners, library, and hfs run, and work out if I can make myself do so. We'll see. Stay warm out there...

| Good News, Barb, about retirement!!! I, too, laughed at getting your fiances in order at WalMart. Judy, if it's not too late, my mom in KC found a console tv. So, they are still out there, she got hers about 2 years ago.. looks just like the old, the only difference the new one works. So, thankful I am out of the snow... it snowed 11 inches at home this week. Nothing exciting in my life.. THANK GOD... I just read along and see what you all are doing every morning..with my coffee. So, take care. |

| Hi Bert, Heather and Shelley. Shell, the shooting isn't anywhere close, but still....it's incomprehensible. I've finished one sock and have about 80% of the second finished. My mind is already speculating on the next knitting adventure. And yup, Bert, I'm with you. The most excited I want to be these days is when I drop a stitch. Well, I actually dropped one about 12 rows yesterday on purpose to fix a mistake. For non-knitters, a dropped stitch creates a run or ladder and is not a good thing generally Even though intentional it was a hairy 15 minutes getting everything stitched up again--required some techno-knittingHugs to all.....

| Hi Gang! Flying by, I'm writing to you from the Hotel Internet center here in Lexington, KY. The wedding was spectacular! What a gorgeous bride. If I have any pics, I'll post them. Flight was a hassle. Not because of anything special, but just because flying is a hassle these days. We leave here tomorrow at 11:00, and will be home tomorrow evening. Then, it's back to the grind of trying to decide how to come to terms with retirement. And, speaking of retirement, Ms. Barb! How fantastic that yours has been made more possible! I'll be waiting for that Oprah appearance. I DO believe that you will do it. Peace, Peg |

| Peg, great to hear from you and glad the wedding was everything the bride wanted. Would love to see pics. Alida and Barb, I'm so sorry your posts from earlier are gone. Did anyone else post earlier today? Dixie had some issues with the board and couldn't recover the posts, but all is well now.
