Happy Shamrock Day everybody! It's pouring rain here, with some thunder. A good day NOT to watch--let alone take part in--a parade. Kinda too bad, since the KC parade is big and very popular.

Not too bad for me though, as I'm enjoying a quiet morning at home. I invited my friendly neighbor over for a coffee break. I brought up a box to unpack, and I'm just generally enjoying myself after a busy weekend.

The Magic Flute was wonderful on Friday night. On Sunday, we saw a KC Repertory production of A Marvelous Party, featuring the songs and memoirs of Noel Coward. Extremely entertaining! And after that, my niece's 7th birthday party--a grown-up party in the very lovely home of her grandparents on her mom's side.

Later, I'll head out to help my dad with some errands. It's great not to have to jam everything that needs done into the weekend.

Peg, good thoughts and prayer for you and Dh today. Don't let them prevent you from being with him as much as you want.

Judy, hoping for the best for your DDad. And also for some rest time for you during the break.

Heather, your little cuties are adorable! What a great day-brightener.

Now to clean up and feel like less like a slouch. Although slouch isn't too bad for now.

Take care of you.

Hey gang!! Taking a chore break while poor M sits on the couch watching cartoons. Her little nose is so red from a cold and she seems tired. She hasn't been up this early for awhile. Her Grandma will be here soon to take her for a doctor appointment.
-
Shelley - That's a ton of pictures!! Sounds like you had a fun time. / The bus driver was commenting on how Charlie is obviously Irish. lol
-
Barb - Ooooh, have a fun slouch day. I have a feeling that would be hard for you friend. You seem that you would have a hard time just sitting around all day doing nothing. I could see you sitting with a good book for a few moments though. Whatever you do smile! I'm smiling for you imagining that you must be more relaxed today.

Morning ladies...Happy St. Paddy's Day. This will have to be a quickie for me....lots of work

Brenda: Sora is doing so much better. She doesn't scream anymore when I put the cream on...just wags her tail. Blood test results came back and her thyroid is just where it should be....whew!

Have you ever watched the Dog Whisperer on TV? That guy is just amazing. Sounds like you might have a little bit of a whisperer in you too. No gardening yet...still too mucky. I did find out that tics are out already...I hate those things.

Judy: So sorry you are going through this with your dad. It's exactly what happened to my father in law. I'm so glad the feeding tube is being put in right away cause they waited too long with dfil. The medical system in Canada isn't always the greatest!

Peg: Prayers for you today for sure!

Shelley: Love the Rooster (Rocky), and the kitty pics. You sure have patience to sit and crop that many pictures!

Barb: Enjoy your day...it must be great to sit and watch the crappy weather and know that it's your choice if you want to go out in it. You've earned this.

We spent the weekend with dmil. She's doing okay but is very quiet. I don't think she's getting out much. We took her out for dinner and I couldn't believe the amount of food she put away. So, we quietly checked her fridge and freezer and she's okay for food...I guess she was just hungry. Then we asked if she was going to have everyone at her house for Easter Sunday like usual. Dh came up the stupid idea that we would do the dinner and bring it to her house. Men...they just don't think. Does he think I'm going to cook a turkey, ham and veggies and then transport it 52 miles so everyone can have a cold dinner! What a bozo! I'll cook it at her house...no problem. Then she gave me the empty containers that usually have the sugar free baking I do for her. She didn't say anything but the look on her face told me that I'll be doing more baking this week. lol

Also found out that she has told her other son that she can't wait until we get our motorhome on the road so she can start going on trips with us. No big deal...we get along good. In fact, I was flattered that she feels comfortable enough to come along without her dh.

I have more to say...just not enough time. Maybe I can get back later. Hugs to everyone!

Happy St. Pat's everyone.......

Peg, I hope Bob's surgery went off without a hitch. Surgery for Daddy is at 10:00 tomorrow morning. It a "small" procedure. They hope to have him awake and trying out the tube by lunch time.

Barb -- Happy first day of retirement (even though it was rainy).

Big to everyone.

Home from hospital at 10:45 pm after leaving at 6:00 am. Surgery went fine. He went to SICU because of his sleep apnea. As I left he was getting his second dose of anti-nausea meds because he was puking his guts out from the anesthesia. Of course, he doesn't have a thing in his stomach but water, but poor guy. I am dead on my feet. Back to hosp tomorrow morning so I can find out what's up.

Peace, Peg

Tuesday morning, crack o' dawn. I am so glad to be feeling well enough to get up and exercise today.

Peg, thanks for checking in. Hope you got some rest. We'll look for the update later today if possible.

Judy, I hope all goes well for your DDad today. Mine was rather melancholy yesterday, because he has so many annoying things wrong with him that can't be fixed, in which case having all his mental faculties is no help. He does very well at keeping alert and busy, and I admire his courage and normal cheerfulness.

Donna, you are a good DIL, too.

Alida, can you be "kidnapped" for lunch from your workplace? I'd consider it! PM me if that's a possibility one of these days.

Yesterday I finally took a couple of my Japanese woodblock prints to the framer. She gave me some frame corners and mattes to bring home, and I've picked out a nice color. I've been postponing this project because I know it's going to cost a fortune, even with the "new resident" discount coupon. Oh well. The pictures need protection and I need decoration.

The only thing on my calendar today (after Bible study at church this morning) is band practice at 6 o'clock. What to do in between??? This is a peculiar feeling indeed.

I did wake up with a poem in my head this morning, and wrote that down. It's a start. Please keep giving me permission to sit in a chair and READ.

Take care of you, my friends.

Good morning!

Sorry I missed yesterday. I did not feel well so I stayed home. I got dressed for work but by the time I got to the kitchen table I was feeling nauseous and dizzy. I don't know what the problem was. Maybe it was sympathetic "I want to read" pains with Barb! That's what I did. I went to bed and read all day. I feel fine this morning.

Peg - I am so happy to hear the surgery went fine. Poor DH. I thought anesthesia was changed so that people do not throw up anymore. Guess I was wrong and just lucky with my last four surgeries. Waiting to hear the full report.

Judy, anxiously awaiting your report, too.

Donna, you get the good heart award! I do remember your mentioning that you travel well with her. That will be fun for all of you!

Dixie: I wondered if you would see that post! Teens are fun, huh?

Got to run and get ready for work. At least tomorrow is Wednesday ... Bob's day off. I really miss that guy when I get home from work! XXOO

Hey gang!! Poor little M was crying this morning just wanting to stay home with her Grandma. Had to carry her in or else she wouldn't come. I don't blame her with her cold and earache I would want to stay home too. She is doing much better now but it took awhile for her to get out of her weepiness. Sometimes I get upset with her mama who should be taking care of her. I love this little girl SO MUCH but feel upset that she doesn't get a normal life you know? *sigh* I've probably said to much. Now I must cheer up and make sure I keep making this little girl feel special and loved. Want her to know that this is her home too. I never had a babysitter or daycare while I was growing up. Can imagine how one can feel if not treated right in those situations.
-
Donna - I think that would feel pretty nice to know that you are loved by your dmil so much. To think that most feel know one is good enough for their son right? At least this is what my dmil told me she struggled with when I first came into the picture. Then she got to know me and then how could she not love me? lol
-
Peg - thinking of you and your DH
-
Barb - Glad to hear that you are feeling better!!! / You know I LOVE Japanese decorations. I bet those prints are fabulous!
-
Alida - Glad you stuck close to home yesterday with the way you felt and glad that you are feeling better. / Have with your DH, mine has Wednesdays off as well.

Peg, thanks for the update. You, too, Judy. May all go well! Both of you, big hugs. Want to hear more from each of you when you can.

Barb, read! write! daydream! Gosh yes it is expensive to have things really well matted and framed, but it makes such a difference when you have great pieces.

Heather, poor little Miss M! Hope she'll get some rest with you today and be feeling better soon. You are doing her more good than you'll ever know by being a loving presence in her life. And what a cute picture! Charlie is so photogentic as is his Mom.

Alida, good to give yourself a day off when you're feeling lousy. It's so very sweet that you miss Bob in the afternoons. Maybe he'll be able to transfer to a better schedule one of these days. Or even better that one or both of you won't have to work at all! (Let's hope so, eh?)

Bert, what's new? How's dh?

Donna, you are so good to your MIL I do hope you can get in a trip or so alone with dh, too, though.

Shell, I love Rocky the Rooster. I was thinking "Roger", but I like Rocky better. He looks like a fine, happy mascot for your kitchen. So whatcha up to today.

Susie, MK--waves!

It's dark, wet, and extremely foggy today. Yuck. Not enough lights in the house to make it even seem like daytime! I need to put on some lively music and dance, don't you think?

Peg, Hope all is going well with dh. I know how rough it is on you too!!!!

Bren.. any word back on the job??

Donna.. you do deserve a trip with dh for as long as possible.. you've had a tough last year.

Shelley... Loved your pictures...

Alida.. everyone needs a day off just to read!!!

Heather.. hope Miss M is better, Charlie looked great in the little irish suit.

Update here dh came home Saturday.. it's been pretty rough, he has had a lot of pain in his knee. I've been putting warm wet compresses on and that seems to help along with the pain killers left from hip surgery. He's on 500 mg of levithicin??and 150 mg of clindamycin 3 times a day for the infection, plus antihistimine and predisone... plus the 14 other pills he takes for heart etc etc. But, he's like the engergizer bunny, he just keeps plugging along.. I don't know how he does.

Everyone have a good afternoon, what's left and great evening!

Berta.... glad to hear that your DH is home. Best wishes for his continued recovery.

DDad's surgery was this morning. All went well. He's finished another round of antibiotics, and IF there is a good chest X-Ray tomorrow, he may be able to return to his nursing home tomorrow afternoon. We'll see. If that happens, we may get to go home sometime on Thursday.

Almost 11:30. I'm home and worried as heck. Dh has been terribly nauseous all day and nothing seems to touch it. His tummy is distended, and he is holding onto the emesis basin for dear life. He is also shaky. His blood pressure went up really high at one point, but it finally went down before I came home. He won't ask for pain meds because he thinks that is what is making him nauseous. Who knows? I just know that I finally had to come home because I just can't keep up this pace. I'm doing most of the nursing for him. The only thing I don't do it administer his meds!! If I could do that I would! He is one hurtin' puppy. I hope that he poops all over the bed and they have to clean it up while I am not there tonight. Also, for good measure I hope that he throws up too and they have to clean that up. I know he will feel better, and it would serve them right for leaving me to do it all!!!!!!!

And that's all I'm going to say on this subject! (Quite enough I think)

Peg

Oh Peg, I am so sorry that the care has been poor. The hospital where DDad is is not one of the big well know Dallas hospitals. The care though has been very good. I can promise you that I have not been the one to change poop pants or do much more than call the nurse when something is needed. Poor dad, he really has been so sick that he is mostly just lying there receiving IVs, and now tube feedings. There have been at least two days when he wasn't even out of bed to sit up. I'm off to clean up and do the same thing again.... day 5.

Good morning!

I am running late, but I must reply to our hospital list.

Peg, after my hip operation, I was very nauseous too. But I didn't physically vomit. I was that way for about 2 weeks. It was my pain med. Are you sure he isn't getting pain meds via an IV? (((HUGS)))

Judy, I forgot you are on Spring Break. Not the way you would have chosen to spend it, I know. But in a way, I would imagine you are glad, too. Fingers really crossed for a good chest X-Ray. (((HUG)))

Berta, your DG is a real trooper! (Or is that trouper?) (((HUGS)))

I'll touch base later. Today is grocery shopping day and I have to do the grocery list. XXOO

Oh dear. The awfulness of hospital care is coming through loud and clear. I'm so sorry, Peg. The feeling of helplessness--even while you're doing all you can--must be overwhelming. Sending major encouragement prayers your way.

Judy, let's hope your dad will soon be "out of the woods" and comfortable. You, too.

Heather, as you can see, there's no end of caregiving, no matter what stage of life we're in. Love counts.

This morning, I plan to take a brisk walk to the grocery store and the bank--about a mile up the path. It's finally sunny, and likely to be a pleasant day. My colleague who retired the same day I did is having a reception this afternoon, so I'm going to head down to Hallmark. That will be very strange. I'm already completely divorced.

to everybody.
