Thanks for opening the March thread.

Well, March is definitely coming in like a lamb here today. Last year everything bloomed out prematurely and we lost all the apple and peach crops. We had dead leaves on our Aristocrat Pear until this past fall.

I have a baby shower luncheon today plus a surprise 70th birthday party that overlaps. That will keep me busy until the evening. If DH is feeling better, I'm sure we'll be going out for dinner, no time to cook.

Have a good weekend girls.

When I stepped out the door this morning for a run in the park, it was DEFINITELY spring. I could smell it. I could hear it. And the baby trees in back of the condo have red tips on every branch. Yippee! Good thing Shelley got here first, though, because I was back in February when I sat down at the computer.

From my window, I can see dozens of people out for morning runs on the Trolley Trail. Good thing I already did mine, or I'd be feeling like a slug.

This will be a busy day. My sister and I will take my dad and spend some time with his brother's family. My dad and his youngest brother (by about a decade) are the remaining siblings. Because of Crohn's disease, his younger brother has been getting all his nutrition through a feeding tube for ten years. I'm amazed at his resilience and courage. He isn't hospitalized or anything. He leads a "regular" life--he just has to spend several hours a day renourishing.

Peg, you did have a busy "people" week. Are all these activities "required" of you in your new residence, or will you be able to modify your commitments as time goes by?

Heather, I hope everyone at your house is in recovery. Kids seem to have two speeds: FAST and STOP. But you don't want stop to be illness.

Shelley, your new window treatment is great. And of course, your kitty-poo is adorable. What a face!

Judy, you certainly are the prototypical "sandwich" generation person. As they say, "Life is what happens to us while we're making other plans." You have NO other plans right now--not for yourself anyway.

I had an inspiration the other day for how to get window privacy when I want it without doing curtains or shades. I've ordered a Shoji screen from Home Decorators--Japanese rice paper. I can move it in front of any window I want--or use it as a room divider. It will look nice, I think, with my other Japanese accents--lamps and pictures.
Harmony 71"H Three-Panel Shoji Room Divider - Room Divider - Screen | HomeDecorators.com I ordered it in Cherry.

Well, time for more coffee and the paper before I clean up for the day.
Have a good weekend everybody.

Hi Gang!

I'm here and reading!

Today is another busy day. Start my Chaplains duties today. I've got to be over at the health center at 10:30, so gotta jet soon.

Barb: I actually volunteered for everything that I'm in! Hard to believe, huh? The reason that I was so tired is just because of my introversion. I love being with people. But, it takes a lot more energy than it would if I were an Extrovert. And, this past week was an exception. I've tried to clear the boards so that I can concentrate on Chaplaincy for this time. I need to visit everyone every day, so that will take at least an hour of my time, or more every day. But, being the Chaplain is very much a part of my ministry. It feels very good to be using my gifts in that way.

We had an "inservice" yesterday. The quotes are because it was a LOT looser than any Chaplain's inservice I have ever attended. I do so wish it were a little more organized and professional. But we are all volunteers, and for some reason, the general feeling among "us" was that we need to just do our job and be left alone. But, as I heard the discussion, it is clear that some people feel very inept at what they do. Aack. These are mostly pastors, and former social workers. Didn't they visit nursing homes in their ministry??? Well, questions for another time.

Now, I need to get ready to get "Chaplainized" (showered and skirt on).

Have a terrific Saturday everyone. See ya later!

Love, Peg

Coughing, coughing and more coughing is all you hear around here. We're all a bit sluggish but no one has high temps anymore - yeah!! Taking a slug down and my one chore I'm going to get to is dishes. Yesterday was laundry. Anything more wears me out. I'm glad we're getting better now. Even sick I still wanted to weigh in with only 2 weeks left on LAWL. My sister was so nice and came to pick me up so I didn't have to drive. I weighed in at 135 pounds! Was so happy because after a week of being sick I was hoping for 137 pounds. This means that by March 15th the weight of 123 - 133 pound range is very achievable. Thank you God!

Good morning, everyone. Another spring day here, which I'm celebrating by throwing open a window. Veronica doesn't know much about real outdoor air, so she's suspicious.

Heather, I'm glad there's recovery at your house. Keep going in that direction. Now I'm wondering how tall you are. I picture you at about 5'6--so that weight target you mentioned surprised me (on the low side).

Peg, I'm sure you'll be a welcome visitor on the chaplain rounds. You sparkle. I'm happy to hear that your responsibilities are voluntary, not obligatory. Even though you feel a little stretched right now, it's something you can manage.

My dinner party was perfect, if I do say so myself. The timing worked out just right, and I felt relaxed and not "hostess busy" all evening.

Henry's Pork Medallion recipe was fabulous! I ended up making that late in the afternoon, and had the meat warming in the oven, while the sauce stayed warm on the stove. Right before serving time, I put it together.

On Friday, I made the Mashed Fauxtato casserole, then popped it in the oven to heat through. Everybody loved it. (It tasted too bland when I made it, so I threw in my favorite spice, Tony Cacheres' Cajun seasoning--so the cauli had a nice bite to it.) The fresh asparagus was tender-crisp--a taste of spring indeed. For dessert, I used a melon baller (ahead of time) to make little sorbet balls in different flavors--then I dished up a mix for each person (lemon, raspberry, acai berry). My friend tended bar, tossed the salad, and made a good impression--especially on me.

I truly love entertaining, and will probably try to keep something on the calendar all the time, just to look forward to. (It's easy to forget the cost, though, so I'll have to keep that in mind.)

Today would be a good day to wash the car. This is about the only thing I needed a house for--a driveway with a hose. I always used to like washing cars.

Time for church. Blessings to all.

Have a good day at church Barb and enjoying the Spring air. High of 41 today with some wind. Tomorrow is high of 45 with wind gusts up to 51 mph. Yeesh!

Oh, I'm 5'3". The government charts say I should weigh around 114 pounds but sorry, I just don't feel comfortable that size. Guess that happens when you weigh 200's and 300lbs for so many years. Under 140 pounds I feel both good and Dr. Oz waist measurement (32 1/2 inches) that he says is the healthiest is where I'm at without sucking in the gut. lol I'm sure I have a few pounds on me of muscle from the years of weight training and exercise I've been up to.

No church today. We're coughing and blowing our noses still but doing better. A bit run down still but have some energy to get some housework done before the landlord comes over tomorrow to fix our hall closet.

Okay. 5'3--same as me. You just sound so much taller! I feel very comfortable and look good at about 135. However, we carry our pounds in very different places. My waist is 27"--and so are my thighs (well, not quite). I call myself Tripod Woman.

Now...some laundry, some errands. A very windy day in KC--I won't be taking the convertible out, even though it's warm enough. I saw a lot of top-down cars yesterday. Everybody is more than ready to call it spring--but the weather people say more winter on the way, including (ack!) snow. It won't last. Temps are too warm.

Isn't that nuts about how different our waist lines are when we weigh about the same and are about the same height? I asked my sister months back if she noticed I had put on some weight. She is very nice and honest so she stated just in my belly. I seem to gain it there first and I have the stretch marks to prove it. Excuse me, the BATTLE SCARS, to prove it. I read that people who have larger waist lines having more health problems so that is where my major focus is going to be then the scale that can fluctuate. I have a tendency to hold water weight. I'm glad that someone gave a # on a healthy waist line or my head maybe with the rest of society thinking that size 0 is perfect - yeesh!

I've got most of my Sunday chores done so thought I'd just pop in for a visit. Our weather is just gorgeous for this time of year. I was out yesterday pruning the peach tree and cutting back a few shrubs and the chrysanthemums. Can't believe how warm it was...didn't even have a coat on.

My weight is absolutely stupid! I was up another pound yesterday morning so I just got mad and told myself I could eat whatever I wanted all day. And boy...did I ever eat. Last night we went to a retirment dinner and I ate TWO deserts...black forest cake and cheesecake. I was stuffed. Then came home and ate crackers! I was scared to get on the scales this morning but couldn't believe when I found I'd lost the pound I gained yesterday. I just don't understand this. When I eat very carefully and record everything I gain...when I say to heJJ with it...I lose. No figuring it.

I went back into some of my records and found I've been battling with this 10 or so pounds for just about a year now.

The sun is out again so I think I'm going to put the leashes on the dogs and walk over to the bank and deposit my paycheque. Then head to the store and get dh the Sunday paper. We all need the exercise.

sorry guys for the fly by. We are under a tornado watch which will probably go to a warning any minute. I need to go get things together. Spring tornado season...oh yay! NOT!

per my journal entry this evening:
Quote:
We are having tornadoes like crazy in western OOOOklahoma. The news crew filmed one touching down about 15 minutes ago. That footage will probably make the national news. It looked like an F-2, maybe F-3; pretty da*ned impressive!!! We are under tornado watch right now, and they expect some strong T-storms, some possibly to go tornadic in the metro area within the hour.
Soooooooo.....I guess I'd better get stuff ready in the event we lose our electricity; get the pillows and blankets for our *go to room*.
I HATE tornado season.

OK...off I go.

Shelley, I think we are supposed to get the T-storms in the middle of the night.

Another round trip to Dallas done........... DDad is improving but we expect that they will not release him from the hospital until Wednesday. Another weekend without cleaning house, or going to the movie or any of the other things we had in mind. Tomorrow is Monday......... sigh.

mmmmm Judy, mmm sure gets tiresome being the responsible one.

I'm flying to KC tomorrow to drive my mom 2 1/2 hours south for a funeral.. on Thursday and then back to Southern Tx on Friday.

Barb, Life is lookin' good for you!! That's wonderful.

Heather, Keep those kids well. Looks like you are doing really well keeping your weight close to goal... never ending process.

Alida... missing you.

Brenda... What's up.

Donna.. Great sobriety for your daughter, I bet you are sleeping much better.

I've been following along... not much going on.. just keep eating and drinking or is it drinking and eating... gotta stop this nonsense.. but you probably don't want to hear me whine. It's been the best winter ever down here this year. I'll doubly appreciate it after being in Kansas this week.
.
Take Care Friends... oh.. Shelley... don't get blown away..

well......
the tornado sirens went off 3 times here in my neighborhood;eery and un-nerving; not fun.
I put Kassie in the *go to room*, which happens to be *her room*(laundry and half bath area). It's times like this I wish we had a cellar; I would have definitely gone to a *fraidy hole* tonight!
Now, we are getting pounded with 50+mph winds and sideways rain; tomorrow we may get 2+ inches of snow. Fun. Oh how I love OOOOklahoma weather!

Judy...if you get the storms...hold on to your hat!

(((hugs to all)))!
it's gonna be a rough, rest of the night, I'm afraid.

Good morning everyone. Shelley, you still there?

We had strong winds and rain yesterday and all night, a little thunder. I didn't go out all day after church, but I heard that some big trees got blown over. I spent the whole day curled up with a book, did a little laundry. That was just what I needed.

Now I've got two weeks to "kill" at the office. It isn't like my heart is in my work these days. I've brought several boxes of stuff home--stashed in the garage. A few more books and "tchatchkes" and no one will know I was ever there.

Bert and Judy--drive carefully. Hope you don't run into heavy weather on the road.

Donna, spring is trying hard here, but we still have some freezy weather ahead. Y'know, I hope you can stop hanging your mood on that silly one pound up and down every day on the scale. It isn't what you ate the day before that does that. It's just water fluctuation, and there's not much any of us can do about that. Maintenance within a couple pounds range isn't a bad place to be--even if it's a few pounds more than what you consider your "goal" weight.

I'll peek in here later. Take care of you.
