Heather, as Donna can tell you, conquering alcoholism is a terrible battle. I'm sorry about your DH's mother--the end isn't easy with liver disease (and I know that firsthand, too.) Your example of non-drinking will carry a lot of weight with your own kids.

The shoes are fabulous! I love sassy heels. However, since I'm now seeing someone with whom I basically see "eye-to-eye" I'm building my collection of fabulous flats. Luckily, flats are "in" now and there are lots of cute ones to choose from. (I'm sure Mr. Eye-to-Eye would be happy with me in heels, flats, or barefoot.)

Brenda, that's a palace of a bird feeder. My guess is, the skinny pole will discourage squirrels.

So...Donna, what's your choice for the five bills? Many Americans will be getting a check from Uncle Sam this year--some sort of rebate to boost the economy. The Pres is hoping most people won't stuff it all into their savings accounts--and I'm betting he's right. I spent a chunk of mine (which I haven't got yet!) on custom picture frames for some wood block prints my parents bought when we lived In Japan in the early 50's. I have no idea what the prints are worth, but the frames are worth a fortune. But they are beautiful, and I treasure these prints.

Peg, good luck with the spelling bee! As a bee veteran, I can say the only way to approach it is with a huge sense of humor and good sportsmanship. There's no way to "practice." The English language is too complicated for dependable rules of spelling. Your dh has to be one of the most resilient guys on the planet. Good luck with keeping him in line.

It's a rainy, thunderstormy day here. I'd like to spend the whole day at home reading, but I promised to take my dad and my aunt (her husband, my dad's brother, recently died) out to lunch.

This has been an exciting sports week in KC, with the Jayhawks winning the NCAA championship, and the Royals (a lesser achievement, but a good start) winning their home opener against the Yankees. I might have to start paying a little more attention.

Blessings to everybody.

Good morning ladies. My day started off wonderful....the scale dropped 2 whole pounds! I was floored. I know I've been very, very careful and exercising like crazy but I was hoping for 1 lb. Lets hope it doesn't come back tomorrow!!

Dd got the job. Now it's up to her to keep it. I'm not letting her problem bother me this time. (I hope). I talk to her daily on the phone, but I'm not running to her place to make sure she's okay. She's 31 now...not a baby, and I deserve a life.

Heather: You keep talking to those kids until you are blue in the face! If I had of been more knowledgeable about alcoholism I would have done the same. I didn't grow up around people with addictions so I never though about it. It wasn't until I was married the first time that I came face to face with it and then I felt it was too late to do anything about it but accept it. Maybe if I knew what I know now I never would have had kids...or at least done things differently. Anyway, as long as you keep those kids informed you won't have to go through the heJJ I'm going through.

Barb: I'm still not sure what I'll do with the money. It's burning a whole in my purse which is stupid. I think I'd better take it to the bank today or I'll end up spending it on something stupid like a bill. lol

Can't stay long....I'm downloading my invoices and they are just about finished. Busy day today...I'll try to pop back later. Have a great day!

What a busy day!! Getting a lot done with an appointment, running errands, getting kids to and from school, cleaning, elliptical 1 hour and tonight it'll be weight training 1 hour. Sunday will be a nice rest day.
-
Barb - You are right! I was watching on Style channel and they were all about flats.
-
Donna - Good news on those 2 pounds gone!! I love surprises like that.

Kitty Re: APRIL Tracking

Drive by again for me...sorry about that! I've been on site today, but busy in the *back-end* as Dixie calls it!
Please take a look at the avatars and smilies, if you haven't already. I got quiet a few added, I think; it will give us a little more fun things to *play* with...

I did manage to get to the athletic store a few days ago and scored a new pedometer. It was definitely a PITA to set up, but I think I'm going to like it. It tells how many mph you are walking in addition to how far, cal burned, steps per min, total steps and it automatically adjusts from walk to jog mode.

Anyhooo....waves and hugs to all! I'm off to crash on the sofa for a little bit...my brain is tired!

per my entry in OWL accountability thread:
Quote:
NEA7 #6 in a row!
Actually got to walk today after the fog lifted and the sun came out! We emptied 3.4 inches of rain out of our rain gauge; that was for less than a 24hr period!

walked 58 min/3.14miles/295 cal burn/avgsp 3.27mph
over and out!

TGIF! I promise to stop in tomorrow morning and catch up.

Real quick -- Barb, I love the John Adams series. If you haven't seen it yet, HBO re-plays the different segments almost continuously. New parts air on Sunday, 8PM.

Peg, Spelling Bee????? OMG.

Brenda, that pole looks super! It just about has everything any bird could ever wish for!

Heather, prayers for your MIL.

CRS. I'll be back tomorrow after re-reading all your posts. XXOO

Default APRIL Tracking

Morning gang! Hope everyone is well this morning. Up at 5am to get ready for little M today. Tomorrow I get to sleep in which for me is probably 7am when the kids get up - lol. Charlie was up 5:40am today! Must get Jay up a bit early to shower and get ready for Spring pictures. I usually buy these when they come out.

Today we should learn more on our MIL. I may call Jason's stepfather myself and then try to get in touch with MIL adoptive parents to see how they are.

The scale was up 2 pounds today despite great work to get the scale to to down to signature. It's funny that scale doesn't know what it's talking about! My belly looks smaller this morning and my pants fit great!

Good morning gang.

I've been following along, hope all of you have a great weekend.

Sorry to make this a me post, but I'm in a time crunch this morning.

Quote:
Per my journal this morning...
Night #10 completed and 5.5 pounds gone due to my participation in the Nothing After 7 Challenge! It's working because I'm letting it work.

I think my little Oz is beginning to feel better. He slept like a log last night, curled up right beside his mommie. Ozzie said to say thanks Auntie Bren for help.

We've been invited to a dinner tonight at the university, a celebratory event for seniors in the honors program. Tomorrow DS1 will present his senior thesis, a requirement of this university to graduate with honors. DS1 will be presenting in the morning. Maybe I can manage to grab a few photos.
Shell, the new smilies are great! Thanks.

Good morning, my friends. TGIF!

Heather, good going on the weight management. Yes, the scales LIE. It's how the pants fit that tells the real story.

Shelley, your kitty avatar is perfect. I like smilies--I just rarely remember to sort through them to find the perfect touch.

Yesterday was a strange weather day here. Thunderstorms, sunshine, sunshine through rain, soft rainfall, big wind--one thing after the other all day long. Looks like today and tomorrow will continue the gray, cold weather. I'm just hoping the magnolias won't get frozen.

Nothing to do but sit here by the fire, reading, writing, taking my time. Later I may get out to run a few errands, and take a run if it isn't wet. Housekeeping can definitely wait another few days.

I'm committed to spending Saturday morning at a Presbytery meeting (the area-wide gathering of Presby clergy and elders). Sometimes duty calls.

Mostly I'm just hanging out. It's good to hang out with all of you.

Morning gang! Clarification in order, the birdhouse pole system parts are all purchased separately, so my system is nowhere near as elaborate as the one shown. Still, I have the pole, stabilizer, squirrel baffle, a double crook arm, a single crook arm, two different feeders, a sitting branch and a cardinal pole topper I'll take a picture if the weather ever permits putting it up.

I have the self-congratulatory soreness one gets after not exercising in a while. Maybe I can even keep it up!

Shell, thanks for the Our next book is Eckhart Tolle's A New World along with the rest of the world it seems.

Hugs to all today. I'll try to check in later. Meanwhile, do you think the taxes have whisked their way over the ether? Nah. We have about 2 hours of sun before the next predicted front comes through--I'm outta here

flowersicon Re: APRIL Tracking

Just peeking in this morning before I go and get my clothes on and get to the store before our inevitable lunch. My friend here has a b'day tomorrow so I have to go and get some balloons and snack goodies. No prob.

Then off to a mtg after lunch for which I have been typing all week. Well, the truth is, I have been procrastinating big time (which is work, you know) and here it is the day and I have not finished! Oh well. That's the way it goes.

Then two more meetings before I can lay down my head again on the pillow. I have let my hair grow. It's driving me crazy, but my cutter guy says that he can help. Next week is Spring break for the gkdis, and we are on deck for part of it. So, can't get my hair cut until the following week. Aaack.

Prayers where you are challenged, and flowers for those of you who are feeling good today. Love to you all

Peg
ps: Shel, I LOVE the new smilies. Wow!

Good morning ladies. Friday....at last.

Shelley: Hey, thanks for all the great smilies. Like Brenda I keep forgetting to use them. I'll try harder
Love your avatar!

Brenda: Even if you didn't get all the pieces for the bird feeder can you add on at a later date? I'd love something like that but those little birds sure can make a mess! I have a patch of grass under my feeder that is about 3" thick with birdseed they've dropped over the winter.

Isn't that the book that Oprah has been raving about?

Alida: Waiting to see what's new with you.

I am furious with dd! When she was fired last week she was given her paycheque and holiday pay. Probably close to $800. She spent the whole thing on the weekend and has nothing to show for it!! Didn't put anything away towards her next months rent or pay her hydro...her only two bills. Now she tells me she needs cat food. Of course I won't let the cats go hungry, but dd can for all I care. She knows how mad I am. At least she has no money for alcohol. She showed up last night and wanted to walk the dogs with me and made sure I knew she was going to her AA meeting. (which she did) If she's looking for me to say "good girl", it's not going to come. I told her it looks like she's back to square one and should give me her bank card and her whole paycheque again once she starts work next week. She agreed...but then she will agree to just about anything right now. At least she's sober!

It felt so good to get outside after work yesterday and start the sprinklers. The grass is greening up nicely. I'm thinking it will probably be about another week and I'll have the out. Just have to watch out for any ticks that plan on making a home on me or the critters

The 2 lbs. that I lost yesterday? Back today! Gotta be water gain.

Tonight at the Legion is our yearly cancer drive. We have a few local dignitaries who are willing to have their heads shaved for donations to the cancer society. It's hit closer to home for us this year as one of the ladie's auxillary was just diagnosed with breast cancer on Tuesday...young girl with 4 kids...single mom. Hope they've caught it early enough.

A day in town tomorrow. Dh has a baseball practise so I'll be going. Supposed to be really warm so I'm looking forward to that. I think I'm shopped out for awhile...but you never know...usually WalMart calls my name!

Off to balance bank statements and finish off invoices. Have a good Friday
