Busy weekend with friends from out of town. They'll be back next week with their things to move back. It was so nice to have couple friends. Skinny friends who didn't seem occupied with food. They are active which I hope will be a good influence for DH. Did get back to Salvation Army today for hat hunting. Couldn't walk away from a great pair of boots, headbands, nice dress & tops either. lol I'll post a picture of my hats that I plan on wearing while building our house. I'm very fair skinned and just 2 hours outside last Sunday my boys and I burned. Must buy some sunscreen to keep in my purse.
-
Barb - I love the dentist. Sounds funny because most don't but there is nothing like a good teeth cleaning.
-
Donna - The vet sounded very thorough. Glad to hear that Sora is doing so much better!
-
Peg - Glad you found bandages that work with your shoes. I couldn't imagine what you would do without them, wear slippers? / Glad to hear that you are safe from the tornado and SNOW! Had to share your strange weather with my DH. Very weird.
-
Alida - Gall stones! I can only imagine the frustration Bob and you are going through. Prayers said dear friends. Thank you for keeping us posted and I certainly pray that getting rid of them will get Bob back to his ol' self.
-
MaryKay - Have a good weekend!
-
Shelley - What a weight workout you had! Hope that you recover so you can get back to it. Nothing like muscles to look at while flexing in the mirror.

Sunday morning. Church, and then a play this afternoon. Looks like a good outdoor day, but you can't pick the weather when you have season tickets.

Heather, by all means use sunscreen--the stronger the better! Sunburn is a bad idea. Hats are a GOOD idea. Love the straw cowboy hat. And big brims--excellent.

Alida, I hope Bob will listen to you about taking care of himself. He evidently has a high tolerance for discomfort and annoyance. I guess he'll have to be careful about eating until he finds out what his system can tolerate with an absent gall bladder. But he's got to feel worlds better than he did before.

I've let the Weight Creep catch up with me, and I'm not happy about it. It's the downside of having a happy relationship--regular eating and too many "treats." Of course, the last couple of weeks of traveling and feasting didn't help (though I wouldn't have not done it!) I'm going to step up my exercise and back off on the chocolate. What I really need is a few days of good ol' induction. Not sure I'll be able to do that right away, but I need to whack the WC before I'm really in trouble.

Hope everybody has some fun time planned for the weekend, holiday or not. Take care of you!

Good morning!

Donna, I have been so busy with my own stuff that I neglected to mention Sora. How wonderful the vet finally got it right on the medicine. Does the vet know what the initial problem was?

Barb, you are the last person I would worry about re: weight creep! You have your act so together that those extra pounds won't dare to stick around too long. What play are you seeing today? It does look like it's going to be a lovely day. If Bob does get home early enough, I may start planting my flowers and not wait for my DIL to help. She's out of town this weekend.

Heather, sunscreen will be a must! And those hats look wonderful. I am probably preaching to the choir, but make sure whatever lotion you buy protects against the full spectrum -- UVA and UVB. Also, my guru, Paula Begouin, says that sunscreen should be put on about 20 minutes prior to going out in the sun. Oh, what FUN you are going to have with that house!

Have a lovely Sunday. I am pretty sure I will! XXOO

Have to get to the shower so I have time to fix myself up for church. Pastor is fully retired and has moved so we'll have a new man filling the pulpit today. From what I hear he is young and unmarried. We don't have any single gals I can think of his age. I think it would take a special person to marry a Pastor.

Today we'll go see Indiana Jones at the theatre. After that I need to get my exercise in. No school tomorrow for the kids so I can sleep in, if they let me, since I don't babysit until Tuesday.

Have a good day!!

Hoping Bob feels fantastic today!!

My son is home from college this weekend. really enjoying having him around (when he is not off visiting his buds)

DD has a new boyfriend. got rid of the unhealty (disabled*), non-working, leech of a boyfriend for a healthy, working (software engineer) very nice young man. Hoping this works out for her - she deserves a nice guy and doesn't have the self esteem she should have.

*nothing against anyone disabled, but I really would like for my daughter not to find someone who will have to be taken care of for most of her life.

Cooking out today - got LOTS of boneless, skinless chicken - breasts and tenderloins(by accident) - just cooking it all up with different seasonings on it and we can have it all week with different things.

lots and lots of cucumbers cut up for salad. Still doing well, IMO, on plan. no sugar binges at all.

Happy Holiday Weekend everyone! It’s so nice to have a long weekend, but such a solemn reason to consider as the reason for it.

I’ve been pretty much MIA for the last week or so. I’ll be ending my school year next Friday, and leaving for Nebraska a week from today. There is always a lot to do at the end of the year; with cutting it short one week I’ve been double timing trying to get everything finished. It seems that the last minute realization is somewhat starting to kick in for my borderline kids. I’ve called parents, talked with principals and flat been in kids’ faces to get them to realize that the end is nearer than they think. Sometime in the last few years, there has developed a pervasive feeling of not caring. It’s not just at our school, but seems to be across the board. It’s very hard to motivate the terminally unmotivated to do anything more than the bare bottom level of achievement. Enough of that….

Alida, I am so glad that the doctors finally determined what was causing Bob’s problems. I hope they were able to do his surgery laproscopicly. I would want to avoid a big incision anytime there is a possibility of going another way.

Barb, Glad you enjoyed the trip to New York. I have never been there…… maybe someday I’ll get the opportunity. As for the weight creep, he has definitely been camped at my house. In fact he’s firmly entrenched. I do plan to do some serious work toward getting back on track as soon as I get home from NE. Actually, I thought of challenging myself to do a week of induction while I am gone. They provide three meals a day plus snacks. The food is wonderful – with many LC choices. Of course they have many wonderful wonderful choices that aren’t LC, too.

Brenda, How’s the new job? Are you in an office or dealing directly with patients and family? Do you have a job title?

Donna, I can’t even imagine how much cooking you have done this week. Where have you stored it all? Your DH definitely owes you big for this one!

Heather, GET SOME SUNSCREEN! You have made a good step in getting your cute hats (I like the cowboy hat best, too), but sunscreen is an absolute necessity. When do they start your home?

MK, glad you enjoyed your trip. It’s good to hear that your DD has a new guy. I can totally understand not wanting her to have to care for someone for the rest of her life.

Peg, You win the weird weather award. I thought ours was bad, but that’s the strangest. One time when I lived in Lubbock, we had thunder, lightening and snow. Another time it rained sand – no water fell, just sand. How are your feet?

Shel, I know you guys have weird weather. Seems like this has been an awful year for tornados. I heard there was another one in OK yesterday. Our humidity is already getting bad. It doesn’t do much to encourage me to get out and do anything physical. Good for you in getting back on the bicycle and keeping up the exercise program.

Susie, Is this moving weekend for your new college grad? Are you going to Colorado to help make this transition?

Did I leave anyone out? I didn’t mean to. I’m about to get up and try to find some new denim capris. Weight creep is wearing my old ones.

Morning gang,
Flying by to wish you all a pleasant, safe, and peaceful Memorial Day.

We'll be sticking close to home today, as the weather continues to be pretty fickle. We've had outbreaks of tornadoes for about 3 nights in a row. Friday afternoon, we watched live action video from one of our storm chasers in conjunction with News 9's helicopter pilot, and it was amazing. You could see the wall cloud, the lowering, the rotation and lowering of the wall cloud, the funnel formation, the touch down with the debrie cloud, and finally the roping out of the tornado as it went back up into the wall cloud. Then within another 5-10 minutes, the whole scenario over again. This went on for well over 4 hours! Luckily, it was happening in the N-NW-Central part of the state in rural areas for the most part. One tornado did pretty much wipe out a hog farm. That 'nado was also caught on video and you could see the roofs being ripped right off of the buildings where the pigs/piglets were penned. Again, amazingly, all 6 employees rode out the storm in the brick office building, and after they started clearing the rubble, they only found one dead animal.
I lost count(at about 6 or 7) of how many tornadoes touched down Friday. I think the weather guys finally tallied up what the chasers and the pilot videoed and the count was around 12! YIKES!!! Then, almost the same thing happened on Saturday afternoon/evening. Anyhoo...really CRAZY weather.

I did get in a little quickie shopping run Thursday afternoon. Had a 20% off coupon, and scored another Clima-365 shirt. I highly recommend this clothing for sports and fitness. It definitely helps keep you cooler by wicking away perspiration. I have another 20% coupon, and I think I'll run back to the store today and get another pair of the shorts(which have POCKETS!!!!...a mandatory requirement for me!!!...LOL!).

Oh...and I also scored 2 bowls for the DIVA kitty!!! LOL!
here's a couple of pics of the bowls and said DIVA checking out her dishes!

Everyone stay SAFE today!
(((hugs all around!)

Certainly not as easy to find this year as they have been for the last three or four..... I did finally find a really cute pair at Sears. I bought a black pair and a khaki pair at Ross. There were lots of shorts available, but I don't like the look of the spider veins that are visible from the knees up. Capris are definitely my summer length of choice. As is the case with all of fashion, when you find something you like, it eventually goes away. Hummm, speaking of things that I wish would go away.... how to T-shirts that are so tissue thin that it is imperative to wear two camisoles to feel like you can decently go in public. I only saw one cute, not old lady looking shirt that I liked. Shirts/tops seem to come in three categories: polo shirts, teen age low cut hooker looking things, and stuff my MIL would buy. I'm too cheap to be so picky. I need to sew!

Good morning!

Bob is home and all's right with my world! He came home yesterday morning. He called and by the time I got to the hospital (15 minutes or so) -- he was dressed and rarin' to go. This morning we noticed his laparoscopic (sp?) incision was bleeding a little. But the doctor said OK to shower and take off the dressing. I think we will re-bandage though. One nice polo shirt has a big red blood spot. One's enough.

Heather -- we are going to see Indiana Jones today too. Bob assures me his is OK. As he says -- sit at home or in a theater -- what difference does it make.

Shelley -- what cute bowls! and a special place mat, too. I love the pic of The Diva checking out the bowls. She is wondering where her food is.

I saw those helicopter pictures, too. They showed them on national TV -- Fox News. Amazing to watch. Mother Nature sure is awesome. Too bad much of it is damaging.

Judy, I HEAR YOU about those T-shirts. I have such a hard time finding tops. When I do find one I will buy it in every color! Appleseed's (mail order) has a three-quarter sleeve V-neck that I love. I have three colors and think I'll order a few more. Good score on the capris. I think they will still be around for a few more years!

Got to go and order tickets. And make a meat loaf before we leave for the movie. Bob has to eat at certain times and it will be too late to make it when we get back from the movie.

Happy Monday! And a big thank you to all our vets. XXOO

Speaking of shirts - ok. I was so excited about the baby-dolls being stylish - and coverage is great.
but how come they look so cute on the younger girls, and just make me look preggers!?!?!?!?!

but I did score a couple at JCP that I love. I'd post a pic, but can't seem to find it online anymore :(

Judy...that's why I get alot, and I mean ALOT of my shirts from LandsEnd and LLBean. These are really nice, NOT SEE THRU, tees. I have ordered several this year, as well as some of their other pullover shirts. Of course, I do wear the polo style alot; I like the casual, slightly sporty look of 'em!

Memorial Day. Solemn, but festive at the same time. We have steady light rain this morning, but it may clear off for afternoon barbecues. My friend and I may go foraging for pre-cooked ribs or something.

Last night, with thousands of people, we enjoyed the KC Symphony concert at Union Station, with lots of patriotic music and tributes, and a fabulous fireworks display. The heavy weather held off until early this morning. Nothing like tornadic winds though.

The play we saw is "The Drawer Boy" a compelling drama from a Canadian playwright.

We also saw "Indiana Jones" on opening day. We went to a matinee in an almost empty theater, incredibly enough. It's a terrific adventure in the great tradition of impossible chases, but I agree with the critics who gave it about two-and-a-half stars.

Basically, I'm going to spend the rest of the day reading on the porch. Being lazy is getting to be a habit--but I figure I've earned some time off, and I'm not going to beat myself up trying to find a purpose. Not just yet anyway.

Judy, I hope your time off will be rewarding. You've earned it. I hear you about the motivation problem. We're living in discouraging times, not just for the underprivileged.

As for t-shirts--I bought a "wifebeater" type black t-shirt at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. It's really comfy. I didn't dare to wear it to the concert last night, although I would have looked better sans bra than a lot of women I saw there! To be honest, I hate those babydoll shirts--because they DO make everyone look pregnant. I don't think they are becoming on anyone. I have a few knit t's with short sleeves and u-necklines that I bought at Target. They're my favorites.

At a big public concert for families, you realize that people come in all shapes and sizes--most of them not particularly beautiful. But ALL beautiful in their own way. For sure, the species is reproducing itself whether we should or not.

Take care of beautiful YOU and those you love.
