Have any of you seen or tried on the new ankle length skirts? Please give me quick feedback. I bought one for graduation. Linen with black, lime green and white design to wear with a cute black, unconstructed linen jacket that is a coordinate with the skirt. Looks very elegant, slimming. My problem is that I know they are catching on in big cities, but I'm thinking people might think I've resurrected something from 1969 out of my closet (remember maxi dresses and skirts, don't hear that much anymore since the invention of maxipads). OK, I bought another cute skirt as a backup. Be brutally honest with your opinion, the clock is ticking and I need to make a decision. I've been meaning to post about this.
SistaSue,
Wear which ever one you are more comfortable with, and feel your most *prettiest* in. If the weather were going to be exceptionally warm, I might opt for the shorter skirt, but other than that, I think either one will be perfect!
Personally, I always admired Pat Nixon for her *take* on fashion. When asked about raising her hemline in an interview one time, the former first lady elegantly said, "I'm going to wear what looks good on me, not what everybody else thinks I should wear." or something to that effect...but you get the drift...please yourself, sista; you definitely have good taste!

It has rained and stormed off and on all day. More severe storms moving in this evening and some possibly going tornadic, they say...ack!
Probably gonna be a long night....

(((hugs to all)))

Hey gang! Jay, 3rd grade, gave me his report card. Still honor roll grades good boy! He also gave me my mother's day card early. It was cute with a thank you for letting me get a turtle when I turn 10 and I love you so much that I give up my time for you. lol I have a box for each school year for the boys that I'll give to them one day.
-
Shelley - if saggy skin is healthy then I'm the queen of health. Please let us know how your evening goes with those scary tornadoes. Take care!
-
Donna - 80 people! My feet hurt just thinking about you standing forever making that food.
-
Barb - Congratulations on your 3 duets. If I was at your concert I would have been more entertained when you asked to start over.
-
Susie - My closet has 5 ankle length skirts. I love them because they make me feel dressed up and not so self conscience. I have VERY white legs. lol Plus when I'm having one of those "fat days" (doesn't everyone?) they look better to me then pants or skirts. / Happy Birthday to your baby. No matter how old they get they will always be our babies won't they?

Had a nail appointment today and I'm very pleased! I have never had a manicure before...ever. This won't be that last. I love all the girlie stuff I've been doing. for Christmas DH got me a very generous gift certificate to my salon. I've been taking full advantage with a new cut/style/color and now with pretty nails.

Heather and Shelley, thanks for taking time to give me your opinions about my skirt dilemma.

Shell, thanks for the advice and the nice compliment. I'm probably gonna take both of them then play it out with my mood. The weather is actually going to be very cool and pleasant. Right now we're getting all of your rain sista.

Heather, first congratulations on your Jay making the honor roll and being such a good boy, it's a sign of great things to come. What a cute thank you card, clever son you have.

Heather, you're right about the ankle length skirts being flowing and comfortable. They're really coming back in style. An article on a Bloomingdale's website said to wear strappy sandals with the ankle skirts.

Susie, I vote for the longer skirt. Short short ones look good on kids. Those of us who have grown kids usually fair better with something longer.

Ok, honest truth............ I own one dress (slightly below knee length) and a couple of skirts. I doubt that the skirts would zip it's been so long since I have worn them. It's not that I have bad legs or hate skirts, I just hate wearing anything without pockets. Therefore, to meet the pocket requirement, I wear pants (suits) for almost all occasions (including weddings, funerals and graduations).

Judy, I absolutely prefer pockets AND pants. I thought I would bite the bullet and wear a skirt. I may live to regret it, especially if I have to climb lots of steps in the coliseum.

per my evening journal note:

Quote:
We had 2 possible tornadoes around 5-6PM here in the N-NE metro area. Definite wall clouds with rotation and some lowering. If they didn't touch down briefly, then the power outages and damage was from 70mph+ straight line winds, but all the storm chasers are saying definitely a couple of twisters...just not full blown! Our sirens went off, and I did go out and check the clouds just because all the attention was on the NE metro storm; didn't want something *sneaking* in the back door...LOL!
I hope the worst is over for the night. I'm pretty sure there is another 2 inches + in our raingauge. I just don't want to *wade* out into the yard to check it.

Just heard from DD; my poor little I-jah had to have an emergent tooth extraction this afternoon due to an abscess. Poor little guy; promptly tossed his cookies when they left the dental office. The kicker was, DD had him to the dentist for the same problem(tooth pain) the end of Feb, and they did a *baby root canal*. She took him back in March when he said it was still hurting and he could *taste ickey stuff in his tooth*. At that time they said it was fine and even did an xray. Today's exam, which included a look at the March xray as well as a new one today, showed it was infected all along! DD was not happy with 1st dentist, and I don't blame her.
Today's visit was with a pediatric dentist. So, there ya go.

off to watch some TV and hope the bad weather will go somewhere else for a while!

Well...hi guys!
I think I'm talking to myself this morning, so that must mean everyone is off to work already, or busy with "life" otherwise. And that's OK!

Our weather settled down last night as the storms moved on out. I'm thinking up your way...Bert, Alida and Barb? They say we should have some sunshine today, but it looks awful gray out there at the moment. We'll see, I guess.

On clothing with pockets....a mandatory requirement for me!!! Always been a big *pocket person*...LOL! When BFF was here, I scored a cute kahki vest with 3 pockets. I was so thrilled, BFF actually found her size and scored one as well. No purse for me when I wear the vest; I can carry my cell, keys and small wallet/change purse with no worries. Gotta love the freedom of not having to wag the purse!

Gotta zoom and get moving. Kass gets her sutures out today, and I have a nail appt this afternoon. Maybe a shopping run to check on that toaster/convection oven I'm curious about.

Everyone have a good one!

(((hugs to all)))

Busy day today. At 10am we have parent/teacher conference for little Charlie with his preschool teacher. He is doing so well his first year at age 4. He can write his full name, numbers and entire alphabet legibly. Knows the sounds of his letters, all his colors, can rhyme words and catches on to anything they teach the class. Hope he always finds learning easy. Jay had a slow start with his ADHD but now catches on quick too. I always had to study so hard in school. Could have been because I was social and needed the extra time to study away from my friends tee hee.

Anyway, my birthday and mother's day lunch with my mom and sister today. For mothers day my brother, sister and I got mom a giftcard to a fancy beauty salon. She has wanted permanent eye liner for sometime now. My mom has a few tattoos on her already so this won't be her first time putting things permanent on her. If she chickens out she has enough money for quite a few manicures! A tattoo gun around my eyes is scary to me. Wonder what my stepfather is going to think? He knows my mom is a free spirit and hopefully won't mind.

Susie - I have such a shoe fetish lately that your Bloomingdale strappy sandal comment made me want to go shopping. Monday I went to Salvation Army and bought five new pairs of sandals. They were so cute and $1 each! They go with anything. / I'm so glad that you are treating yourself to such girlie things. Doesn't it just make you feel a bit prettier looking down at nice manicured hands?
-
Judy - I have a few many pocket pants that I wear on my walks. They are for my keys, phone, ID card, bit of $$ in case I get thirsty....and I always have to have pockets on the butt part - lol. No pockets on that area really make that area look larger on me!
-
Shelley - Glad that you are safe and sound after those tornadoes. / Poor I-jah to have suffered for so long. Hope this new doctor has him all fixed up now. I would be one angry mother bear!! Grrr.... I don't blame her one bit either for being unhappy with dentist #1. / That was so funny that you commented on your big pocket pants being your purse too.

Good morning, Girlfriends. I had a computer glitch this morning, but it seems to be healed now. We expected heavy weather last night and today, but nothing doing. It's a gorgeous sunny day out there, and I'm getting ready to go out and walk/run in it.

Susie, FIRST manicure ever?? Where ya been, Girl? Now you'll be hooked. The combination of pretty and pampered is irresistible--a cheap thrill indeed. Next you'll have to try a pedi. Now THAT'S a treat.

Heather, you sound very happy--and no wonder. Bright kids, bright future, and lotsa new shoes.

Lunch with my BFF today. And more outdoor time, I hope.
Take care of you.

Good Mornin'
We missed the big weather last night too. However, it looks like it might have rained.

Shel...you mentioned on the other thread about me using the boat to get around if we flood.. whoops, sold the old boat (actually gave it away) but, I probably would be better off to swim.

Heather.. you are the shopper.. new sandals $1 each that's wonderful!

Susie.. where whatever you feel good in.. I love long skirts.. glad to hear they are out there.. I haven't been shoppping lately.. In a town of 3,000 not much of an opportunity.

I went to the gym this a.m. and I weighed.... the scales showed my weight and at the side they said "gross" now I do believe that they were telling me what they thought of my weight
and not that it was a total of gross weight...but, it was gross

dh is about the same.. I am having a terrible time getting out of bed in the mornings.. it is usually 11 or so.. and to bed at 10. I think he is just trying to sleep the time away till new knee. I hope that will make a difference.

I guess all of our children and part of their children will be her 4th July. That will be a large crowd. Most will get motels, just not enough room here. At least 14 for 3 or 4 days and probably close to 50 (or more) for the one big reunion day. But, all visitations for the summer will be pretty much over then. Gives me something to think about in my spare time

Enough whining... it is a beautiful day today, sun is shining temperature will be just about right. I have a no brainer book to read.. sounds good eh?

Take care all enjoy the day

Cool Re: May Tracking

I'm here lovelies!

We are having our usual "May Gray" days here in SoCa. Cloudy and cool all day. In June we have "June Gloom" cloudy and cool in the mornings and blazing hot by 4:00 pm. Gotta love it. I do since we escape most of the big weather that you guys are getting now.

So sorry Shel about the tornadic activity down your way. I do worry about you. But, you get one big trophy for getting out there to do your exercise anyway.

I'm in my usual funk about Mother's day. I hate it! My girls, since they have become mother's, seem to believe that I just don't exist. And, I am having one BIG pity party here. I am going to send both of them flowers to express what good Mothers I think they are. ".......honey than vinegar" you know.

I've got a couple of big writing projects going that require me to think, so I better go.

I have to go to the Dr in about an hour to have my pre-op checkup before my surgery next week. I'll be so glad to get this hardware out. I am limping like crazy. Hurts!! I'm trying to try out different shoes to see if one of more comfortable than another. No luck yet. Ya know, I have about 75 pairs of shoes that I love!! If this danged surgery doesn't make my feet able to wear them I am going to be one unhappy camper!

Gotta jet!

Barb - I really am enjoying these good times. Tough times come so it's good to appreciate these special moments.
-
Berta - You must be looking forward to 4th of July. When does DH get his new knee in? I can't remember but believe it's really soon right? Bet he is looking forward to a pain free 4th of July as well.
-
Peg - I'm sorry but that is awful that you don't get appreciated on Sunday. You are not only a MOTHER but a GrandMOTHER! Love you sweetie and hope that they come to their senses this year. / The horror of not being able to wear shoes you love! I would be one unhappy camper too and hope the doctor fixes you up soon.

Good morning!!

Thank you, Shelley. I am off today, not just because it's my birthday but because I have to get ready for a quickie trip to St. Louis for my DIL's graduation. She is getting her Master's. Unfortunately, Bob has to work. So another plus of being off today is actually seeing him. We will celebrate my birthday when our friends visit us over Memorial Day. It's friend Ken's birthday that weekend, so I'll make a CAKE.

I have been so bad about keeping up with you all ... but the little bit I remember after reading several pages ...

Susie, I never knew long flow-y skirts were out! I really think just about anything goes, as long as you wear the "right" shoes and top for "balance." If I remember advice from my Saks days ... the longer the skirt, the shorter the heel. But even that advice may be out the window by now!

Berta, another operation, huh? I imagine you are pretty drained right now. I had to laugh when you passed up on the Margaritas and chips because the restaurant was closed!

Mary Kay, you still have hardware in your foot? Actually, your description of a screw "working it's way OUT" made me cringe. Hope the other screws left in there are screwed in nice and tight!

Weddings: my first was rather large with the reception at the Illinois Athletic Club downtown Chicago on Michigan Avenue. Wedding dress was from Bonwit Teller. Yes, still have it. Well, we all know how that marriage worked out. The second was a little more cozy. Bob and I had the ceremony and reception at the clubhouse where we lived. (Barb ... Georgetown Apartments). The clubhouse was designed in such a way it looked like a large house and furnished beautifully like, um, Georgetown! This marriage is going much better!

Peg, aren't you having your operation now? (((HUGS)))

Barb, what a wonderful report from your first recital. It must have been a blast (pun intended). How did you enjoy John Brown? My friend says it was good. She saw it twice but said twice was enough. She had two tickets to a later performance but I had to pass on it.

Donna, that comment by your DH was funny. If my D made it, I would laugh after I bopped him on the head.

Don't forget Survivor Finale THIS Sunday! Did you watch last night? Do you believe what an idiot Erik was? As Jeff said ... he just learned a major "life lesson!"

I have lots of ironing to do and I want to straighten the house up a little so Bob is not faced with such a mess.

Oh! I went to Social Security yesterday just to make sure they had all the info they needed and I also wanted to make sure they counted last year's wages into my allowance. At first the lady said yes they did. But then she said she'd better check. Sure 'nuf. They didn't. So now I get about $20 more a month. Makes one wonder if they ever would have caught that. I also learned another valuable tip. When you start benefits before full retirement age (66 for me), you can only earn a certain amount each year. Since I am starting benefits mid-year, what I earn before June 1 is not counted. I could make a million bucks and it would not matter. However, as of June 1, I can only make $1,130 a month without having some $$ deducted from my benefit. Since I am paid bi-weekly, there is one month that will have three pay periods. Tough luck. I am still held to the $1,130/month rule. And it goes my check date ... not dates actually paid for. So if I am paid for May in June, it counts. so I am going to have to watch my pay very closely. She also told me I will have to save my check stubs because next year when the IRS reports my income to SS, it will show more than $1130/month. So I will have to prove I only earned the proper amount June-December. Yanno, it's all in the details!

Love you all! Have a great weekend! XXOO

OMG!!! Brenda -- I just realized I did not comment on your picture! One word .... cute! It does look like a wedding shot, which it technically is, I guess. How about a picture of your wedding???

And I also guess no one has any hints about belly fat! Barb, I like you suggestion of finding the beauty (?) in it and just suck it in with lots of Lycra. Lipo? Not after reading some of the horror stories .....
