Good morning, my friends. In spite of uproar on all fronts--economic and otherwise--the sun still came up bright and shining, and we are blessed to breathe another day.

I enjoyed my birthday celebration, and today marks The First Day of the Rest of My (Low-Carb) Life. Good luck to me!

I'll be back later.

Glad to hear that you had a nice birthday Barb! To the new low carb Barb!
-
DH and I peaked at the scale before we went to bed last night and I was ahead on the weight loss trail, wow! Sunday is the official weigh in day. Today I'm back at curves and then working on the house tonight. DH ate pizza for dinner while I'm sticking to things like green beans and chicken. I've been doing eggs for breakfast while he has been eating things like bagels. I'm hoping that my healthy choices are what is going to keep me in the lead.

Hey Barb! I forgot to wish you Happy Birthday! Here ya go: (belated)

Tonight we get to go to the Hollywood Bowl to see Neil Diamond! I can't wait!

Heather, good for you for making good food choices. I hope you win too!

Shel: Are you back??? You have been sorely missed by me.

I really don't like the fall. Sorry, that's just my way of being. Spring is my time. Though we are to reach 100 today, believe me, despite the pumpkins and fall pics that keep coming my way, it doesn't look like or feel like fall around here.

I'm busy creating a lament for a Vespers coming up. We are having a huge construction project starting in just a few weeks. 2/3 of our campus is going to have a construction fence around it. It will be horribly inconvenient, and very dusty. We live right beside the major gate in which everything and everyone, including construction trucks will exit. It is going to be hardest on the ones who are older than we are. I attended a forum yesterday (where I got to use my newly learned A/V skills!), and people are really worried about the impact on themselves. It is a two year project at the best. Anyway, my job is to lament what we are losing, which is several old houses, landscaping that is also quite old and lots of green space. We have all voted on this project, don't get me wrong. It will provide much more than is being taken away, but there is a great deal of grieving that will go on anyway.

Gotta jet,
Peg

Hey girls......... this is a true hit and run for me. It's the end of the first grading period and all that goes with that. DH is leaving tomorrow for a hunting trip, so I'm on my own for about 4 days. I'm planning to go to a film festival movie Friday night, then I may not leave the house the rest of the weekend. I have lots of home things and school things to do.

Take care of yourselves. I'm off for bed. Tired doesn't enhance the atitude.

Hi guys,

Yes, Peg...I'm baaaaack.....LOL!. I missed you guys too!!!

flying by....still working on pictures when I get a minute.
If you guys get a chance, I did post a few pics in an album, here.
Hopefully, I'll get around to doing some more tomorrow afternoon.

I'm easing back into my fitness walking as of today, and I'm also tracking my food in fitday, so I think I'm back on track. Vacations can sure mess with a person's game plan, yanno?

Nitey nite!
(((hugs)))

Hooray for Thursday!

LOL Barb. Leave it to you to put things in perspective. After all the doom and gloom -- yes, the sun still rises on a beautiful day! Nice birthday, eh? Good!

Shelley, can't wait to see the pictures and a run-down on all the fun!

Peg, things never stay the same, so they? Something's always changing. Are you building new buildings/homes?

I have to check September and see what posts I missed. Have a good day. Tomorrow's Friday ... duh. Usually is after Thursday. XXOO

Hi Gang!

Alida: Yeah, new buildings, and new homes. We are becoming a CCRC (Continuing Care Retirement Community). That means that we will not change a whole lot in terms of our mission to people, but it does require state regulations be followed. In order to do that, we have had to upgrade many of our facilities, including most of the houses and apartments. Upgrading in most cases just means having the proper "handlebars" (that's what I call them) all around, and also having a system that is campus wide that will allow us to call for help. We have a little box installed in each of our bathrooms now that has a long red cord and word in red on it that says, "pull for help." I've asked the management if that means my martini, or at the very least a new roll of toilet paper. But, no, it means real help like a heart attack suffered while you are sitting on the toilet. I don't have the statistics on this, but I doubt that it happens often (she says shaking her head in amazement). And, if you fall in the bathtub, you will have to crawl to the toilet for help. Sheesh! But, I don't make the rules only break them.

Shel: Welcome back!!!!!!! Missed your sunny face around here.

I can't tell you what a thrill it was to be at the Neil Diamond concert last night with 18,000 people! We were, indeed, in the nosebleed section, but with a lot of other people. Lots of drinking going on by them. One group of college age students all dressed in sequined dresses and coats they had found on EBay. They had a ball! I screamed, swooned, clapped until my hands were tired, and danced my fool head off! Oh, it was just wonderful. He did a full two hours without an intermission. Song after song. It was just glorious! The Hollywood Bowl has installed those big jumbotrons (TVs) and so we could see him and his face and his dancing. Oh, migawd! It was just great. Today I am hoarse and sore. But, it was so worth it. I've never been to a concert like that. What a complete hoot!

Gotta jet.

Peg, What fun!! We went to see "Rain" back in May. If you have a chance to see them, it's like going to see the Beatles ---- through all their phases. Just like you said, there was lots of singing and dancing during the concert. I'm sure the crowd for ND was as varied as the crowd was for Rain/The Beatles.

I'm beat down. I had kids in my room trying to make up work until 5:30 for the second time this week. Time to do some me things and then get ready to watch the debate.

Oooo,Peg! What a concert!! I can just feel the energy. Tina Turner is in KC for the opening series of her new tour, and she got a RAVE review in the morning paper. We all ought to be her at 69! Neil Diamond will be here later this year, so maybe I should make plans to go. The nostalgia would be thick for me.

I treated myself to another facial today. When I had my first one in August, I bought a three-fer deal (buy 3, get one free). It's a lovely experience. I also stopped by the Estee Lauder cosmetic counter for my "freebie" with purchase. I still get an employee discount at the Halls department store, so I scored a nice stash of EL products for a good price. I don't wear expensive make-up as a rule, but I do like several EL fragrances: Beautiful, Pleasures, White Linen, and (the new) Sensuous.

This is my second day of minding my carbs. I am staying OFF the scale, because I want this to be about healthy lifestyle, not about losing weight. The main feature is staying out of the alcohol. I don't believe I'm addicted, but it is very easy for me to get seriously habituated, and I just have to go cold turkey once in a while.

Later tonight, I'm going to join a bunch of people for a "debate watch." I haven't participated in many political activities so far, but this should be fun.

Shelley, your photographs are beautiful. You are a real pro. Hope you have weather as beautiful as ours has been for outdoor walking. I just can't get enough of it.

Everyone take care!

So far I'm still ahead of the weight loss race even though I gained a few ounces. I know that weight fluctuates and they weren't because I went off my eating plan. Still a loss of 5 pounds since Sunday! Excited for this Sundays final weigh in. We've both worked really hard. I'm thinking of buying my DH and handheld calorie/carb/water tracker that I saw at Curves for $12. I log all my food on fitday but could bring this and maybe a cal/carb count book with me if I'm away from the computer too. Anyway, I know the tracker could help him possibly win for the week but it will only help me to work hard too watching him working so hard.
-
Peg - Thanks!! I hope I win the weigh in this Sunday too. 1st week is my best chance because I had to get rid of a lot of carb bloat and water retention from lack of taking care of myself for a bit. / What a site to see college kids in sequins. Sounds like you danced and burned many calories having a good time. Here's to living it up like Berta said! *cheers*
-
Judy - Have fun at the film festival tonight enjoying some 'me' time.
-
Shelley - Amazing photo's!!! / I think a bit of a break on our diets is good to shake up our bodies. That's what I tell myself so that I don't beat myself up to hard when I really eat off plan, ha ha.
-
Ladies...what did you think of the debate last night? I thought Sarah Palin seemed a bit nervous but didn't do bad at all. Joe Biden was cool under pressure and is a very well speaker. Didn't get to see much of it though. It was on during most of my evening errands I had to do.

Happy Birthday to me--I bought a car! I'm now the proud owner of a new 2008 sexy blue Mazda3 sedan. I've liked this car for a long time, did a whole lot of research, and got a great deal. Don't worry--I kept the Miata. And now I have a safe and comfortable car for winter driving and doing errands with my dad. You know, you don't think of all the times you want to accommodate passengers until you've only got room for one. Let alone the walker.

It was a rather exhausting experience, as it turns out. No time for a nap, and I've been invited to the symphony tonight. Oh well. Mozart will forgive me if I snooze through some of it.

Heather, good going on your weight challenge. Hope you win!

BARB!!!! on the new wheels! That's BIG news, as I consider buying a car a BIG deal, and always VERY exciting!!!(not to mention that intoxicating new car SMELL!! Gotta love it!!!)

Many thanks for taking a peek at my picchas.

Heather...I bet you will win!!! You are so focused, as always!

Bren...hey girl! Thanks for the welcome home! pssst...I'll tell you a secret....I REALLY didn't want to come home! I'm SOOOOO a mountain girl!

Peg......no, seriously...You Rocked it at Neil's concert! Go You!!!
He will be here in OKC on October 19th!....someone's BD, I do believe...

Judy...have fun tonight!

Well, today I had to run to Norman to return a pair of shoes I got in Denver.
Luckily, the JCP in Norman had the size I needed.(I wore thick socks the day I bought them, plus my feet were a little swollen....so, they were to BIG here in OKC! LOL!) Anyhoo, they are Clark's and they are sooooo comfy, I really wanted them to fit well. Got the black ones....I may go back for the brown ones!
I did score BIG on our shopping spree on vacation. Got a top at Chico's, Eddie Bauer and JJill, and a tumbled corduroy jacket (click on "more views" to see the back. I got the Garnett color) I've been *lusting* over for some time...LOL!(That was a Happy Birthday to me item )
Picked up some L'Occitane as well, so I'm definitely a happy camper.

OK, goils...gotta get some chores done, then it'll be time to put the feet up and chill out.
Everyone have a grrrreat weekend!!!

(((hugs all around)))
