So here I go for April.........not necessarily a good start. It was a pretty day, but I worked too late and had repair issues to hear about when I got home.

So windy and not at all warm. It's going to take a while to get a line of walker dudes going at this rate.

    04/02/2009
    Calories: 1387
    Fat: 78 gm
    Carbs: Total 113- 15 fiber = 98 net
    Protein: 76
    Weight: 135
    Steps: 11,979/ 5.67
Total tracked miles for April: 8.95

Today I changed my weight goal info in Fitday. Previously it showed my last "start" weight of 164 from last June. Today I set 4/1 as my start date with a wt. of 135 and goal of staying there for the rest of the year. Here's to continued tracking. Maybe tracking it out for the rest of the year will finally get it internalized.

Hey, Shelley. 1640 cals doesn't seem like all that much to me. What are you aiming for? I've been enjoying the fantasy (?) that Atkins lets me eat more calories, and still lose more fat. But then, the scales have not been that favorable this month, so maybe I'm wrong about that. We'll see. I'm figuring 1800 or less as a target, but not worrying too much about it. I should go check my averages in Fitday.

I'm looking forward to a laidback weekend--although I do intend to give my house a pretty good cleaning.

    Happy Friday!

Barb, anything above 1500 calories generally puts a plus in the weight column for me. That's pretty much my maintenance max calories. I believe that the Atkins theory of not worrying about calories works great if you have a number of pounds to lose and if you are younger that you, Shelley and me. But for those of us that are a bit "seasoned" and are either trying to maintain or to lose the last few pounds, the calories are a factor. The nice thing is that 1500 LC calories are much more satisfying that 1500 low fat calories.

Total tracked miles for April: 14.35

**Whoops... forgot to add in some serious Friday evening wine. Add on about 300 more calories. (They were worth it. I needed it.)

Well, dang it, Judy! That's discouraging! Oh well. I'm trying to dwell on the fact that I FEEL so much better on an LC plan. Weight management, not weight loss, is the primary goal, and I think I'll be successful with that. And you are right: 1500 Atkins calories are way more satisfying than 1500 in carrots and peas.

Well, I'm off to soak up some Vitamin D, which seems like the trendy vitamin these days.

    Amen, sista!!! LOL!

Barb, to answer your question, I have no specific *target*number, but rather a *range* I try to stay in. I can sometimes squeek by with a higher calorie count if I've put in 4 miles or more of fitness walking.(I'm NOT talking a stroll in the park..but hoofin' it at 3.5 - 4.0 MPH and getting a good sweat going along with a good calorie burn.)
Like Judy, I don't see a good steady loss unless I'm around the 1350-1450 calorie mark. sigh. Middle-aged metabolisms stink the big one. Sad, isn't it??
But, I'm glad to know that I can maintain at 1500-1550 cal or so...as long as I keep up the walking.

    today's take:
    • 1555 cal
    • 102g fat...this is also a bit much for me...I do better at around 90g
    • 91g pro
    • 61g carb
    • 30g fiber
    • 51g net carb
    walked: 73 min/ 4.51 miles/ 250 cal burn
total fitness miles walked for April = 12.85 miles

wt the same for 1 week. I'm ready to start going in the down direction again! I guess these last 10 lbs are gonna hang on for dear life! <snort>!

Well, I can't say that my walks are hoofing it to that extent, but at least I get out and move. It was beautiful this afternoon --- but so many people were out that we stopped to visit in a couple of places. The rest of the day consisted of some serious window cleaning in the sun room (9 casement windows.)

They say confession is good for the soul. Dinner tonight was a macaroni salad with shrimp in it. Sometimes I fix things for DH and then just eat them instead of making something different for myself.

I could hardly believe my eyes! When I stepped on the scale this morning, I was actually down 3 lbs. That needle hasn't moved off the peg either way for three weeks. Even if it's "just water" I'll take it.

My Atkins Hypothesis (for some time) has been that as fat cells deplete, they fill up with water. Every so often, the body rebalances and dumps that water. Hence....WHOOSH. Did I read that somewhere? I walked for 90 minutes yesterday, which could be dehydrating. But, as I said, I'll enjoy the moment, even if it sucks back in again.

I had fun with my iPhone, downloading my perennial favorite ABBA Gold album, right out of the air (from iTunes). Now that's some inspiring walking music.

Stats from Fitday are this week's average:
    Cals 1715
    Carbs 25.7 net
    Prot 85
    Fat 66%
    Alc 7%

I walked every day for 50-60 minutes at a brisk pace (I define in Fitday at 3.5 mph)

It has turned COLD again accompanied by 30-40 MPH winds with gusts up to 60MPH !!! Needless to say, I didn't walk.
I did wash and fold a load of laundry and had a session with the iron for about an hour. I was probably stupid for ironing all those cotton shirts and some shorts, because it looks like it ain't gonna be spring any time soon here in OOOklahoma!

Barb, Congrats on the -3. Whatever the theory, dropping like that is a big positive.

Well, since I count all steps, I increased my miles a little, but not at all what it could have been. The wind was awful today.
