We are sitting at 102 degrees with a heat index of 105. It's blast furnace conditions, I tell ya!!
I'm usually out the door by 0545-0600 to do my walk & runs, and this morning it was already 82 degrees before 0600. Definitely been STBO!!! ugh!!

Everyone stay cool...

Good afternoon!

LOL, Donna -- I read your whole post but all the while I was thinking the organ-owner was Shelley! I was envisioning Shelley's house, etc. Getting old truly sucks.

BUT, you are a softy and what a wonderful story! It's always so wonderful when things like that happen. Finding a good home for your Dad's organ must really make you happy.

As for orange ... think "Adobe" or "Pumpkin" or "Peach" -- not as scary as ORANGE!

I also made a double batch of your muffins today. Hottest day and I am turning on the oven. Oh well -- did not want to waste 2 zucchini.

Its hot here, too. Bob and I went out to buy a new bird bath yesterday and I planned on running a few more errands after that, but it was just too darn hot.

PEG, how weird about the wedding. Maybe I am becoming a suspicious, cranky old thing, but it is suspicious that he would not sign that pre-nup. I signed one before marrying Bob. About 10 years later he told me he never signed it and it was never valid. From the little I have read about your new place, it must be fantastic. About not getting those 4 things .... have you gotten other things that make up for them??

Barb must be in Canada?

Shelley -- I hear you on the heat. You really get the gold star for even going outside!

Have a great week! XXOO

It's hot here, too. I *try* to walk every afternoon. Today we (the dog and I) only made about half of regular route. It was still over 100 and I was worried about her getting overheated. Maybe it's crazy, but I also worry that her feet will get burned on the pavement.

I did a two day shopping trip in Dallas last week. The really good outlet bargains either weren't there yet, or had already been picked over. Actually, I have decided that an outlet mall really isn't an outlet. The Talbot outlet in Lewisville though is a real outlet. I ended up getting a shirt, two lightweight 3/4 sleeve cardigans, a pair of jeans and a pair of sandals for less than $80. That's my kind of shopping!

New carpet comes tomorrow.......... I spent the day "undecorating" the house so that the furniture can be moved during the installation.

Hello, my friends. Can't believe I haven't visited in so many days.

Donna, you just move from one astonishing event to another. Your description of the new owner of that organ is priceless. And now you know how good it feels to be an "organ donor." You are something else.

Peg, I hope this relational uproar doesn't change the timetable on your relocation. Yikes. If it isn't one thing it's another. But I have to say that I wouldn't dream of getting married again without a rock-solid financial arrangement in place. Don't even have to call it a "pre-nup." Just make sure the respective responsibilities are clear and legal. It's hard enough negotiating who pays for dinner, let alone who pays for life

We just got back from a wedding in Atlanta. It was held at an old inn in the hills near Toccoa Falls, a resort destination since the 19th century. The bride's mother broke her ankle dancing at a wedding party two nights before the wedding, and we couldn't tell if it was emotion or pain that brought tears to her eyes as she limped down the aisle. Other than that--and two hours on the runway in Atlanta waiting for a thunderstorm to pass over--it was a perfect occasion.

We leave for Canada tomorrow, so this will be the last from me until August. We are trailering the boat with us, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly with that. It's 1300 miles to our destination.

Alida, we watched fireworks from the 6th floor patio of some of my Crestwood neighbors--so we saw explosions across the sky from Leawood to the Riverfront. Hope it cools off in KC for you.

Well, off to do laundry and get my act together for the next adventure.

Take care of you!

In the last three days at my house.........
*The oven heating element caught fire and burned itself to a pile of nothingness in the bottom of the oven
*One of the sprinkler heads in the front yard quit turning
* The squirreliest carpet install crew known to mankind finally finished my house -- 6:30 last night and 8:00 tonight. It would have been so much nicer if they had come to work at a normal hour like normal people. Oh no, it was 9:30 yesterday and 10:30 today before they started. Lunch was usually two hours.
*Two of the satellite receivers failed to restart after moving the furniture. One was on the HDTV -- and tonight was the All-Star game.
*DH is not a fan of the new carpet. I like it. It's a frieze. He would rather it have been plush again. I wanted something that would not show dirt and tracks.
*At least one door is going to have to be cut off --- and it's to the hall bathroom. It won't close at all right now. Whoops, hope no one gets caught.

I could go on, but you get the picture. Only a few more days until we go to the mountains. I am more than ready for cool air and the end of this year's home improvements. DH is beyond DONE with this summer's projects.

Hi guys...seems like forever since I've been in here. It's as hot as heJJ here...just about unbearable. No A/C at home so it's hard to sleep. The poor furkids love it at work cause it's cool in here but they just pant and pant at home. It's terribly dry here....right now it's like it usually is in mid August. Sure hope there isn't any dry lightning.

We haven't been doing a whole lot. Our staff is taking turns taking holidays so dh is working lots of extra hours. We're hoping to take off for the August long weekend to just get away. Knowing our luck it will rain. lol

My garden looks the best it has in a long time...lilies blooming everywhere. I had picked up a few new ones this year and when they bloomed I couldn't believe how big they were. Only problem is that I lost all my white and pink lilies so the garden is pretty much red and orange this year. I'll have to start going through gardening magazines soon to order new things for the fall.

Of the 6 lbs that I had lost 2 have found their way back. It's way too hot to walk...especially since we live in a valley and the heat just settles there at night. (yea, I know I have a treadmill but after spending half the night watering I just don't have the energy). I'm not sure if it's the heat or what but I've been so darned tired it's an effort to do much of anything. It will pass soon I hope cause I'm not one to sit and do nothing.

Glad to see everyone posting...Alida, I'm sure glad that you enjoy those muffins. They are a favorite of mine too. I do think they tasted better with the Atkins bake mix though...they rose so much higher.

Judy: You sure have had fun at your house haven't you...lol. I thought things were supposed to happen in 3's not 6's!

Barb: Enjoy your trip!!!

per my entry in the exercise thread:
Quote:
76 degrees/ 76% humidity...but actually felt pretty good. And...we got a little rain last night, along with all the noise(of the thunder and lightening show!...yikes!)

this morning: walked/jogged: 71 min/4.91miles/273 cal burn
total fitness miles for July = 57.18 miles

the BIG DEAL here, is, I ran 1.5 miles without stopping this morning!!! I know that's not a great long distance by most running standards, but I'm pretty pumped about it!!
Now, will I be able to do it the next time?? Was this just a fluke?? Are my legs going to fall off when I stand up??(actually, the legs feel pretty good, so...nah...I don't think they will fall off! )
Who knows, but I'm gonna keep on keepin' on!
Judy...sooooo, does that mean a new stove/oven for you???
Alida....I second the motion...grrrrreat to get news from you!!
Donna...stay hydrated in that heat! They said on our news, we've had on the average of 6-10 heat related EMSA(emergency ambulance calls) per day for the past couple of weeks with our triple digit heat. We had one heckofa a storm last night, with wind damage and SOFTBALL sized hail on the east side, but at least we got a dab of rain and some cooler air, and no 100s for a few days, they say.

Everyone else...
waves and smiles!
have a good weekend everyone!

Nah........ for $75 you just buy a new heating element and screw it in. I seriously need to put that oven through the cleaning cycle, but that does cause them to burn out quicker. Maybe after I get back from the mountains I'll gut up and do it the old way.

Good afternoon!

Watering lawn as I write. For two days last week, it rained up north, but not here. SIGH. One just can't rely on weather reports. It was actually COLD this morning when I went out to get the paper. Only high 70's today and 80's next week. YEA! Today would be a perfect day to clean the garage, but Bob has to stay out of any natural light for the rest of the day. He had a special light treatment on his face on Thursday. It turns his face all red, splotchy, itchy and a tad swollen. It's some sort of pre-cancer treatment. Tomorrow he can join the world again and go back to work Monday. He took Thursday and Sunday off. It's been nice having him around.

JUDY: ooohhh. New Rug! That is so exciting and I love the look of a frieze. What color? Sounds like the installers from Hell. Did they at least to a good job, even if it took forever? Nuts on not being able to get a new stove, although yea that the element replacement is not to much $$. You mentioned using the self clean process shortens the life of the stove????? Is that true?

DONNA, oh, I'll bet those two pounds that found you are just from all the extra water you are drinking because of the heat. If you are at all like me, when I am hot, my body swells up. I cannot take my rings off if I have been outside in the heat for any length of time. And my ankles? Wow.

BARB, enjoy!

SHELLEY, it is hot down your way. But running? Over a mile? YOU ROCK!!! That is just so wonderful. Sad but true -- I got on my treadmill the other day and huffed and puffed after 5 minutes, or however long "Whiter Shade of Pale" is. I did have it going pretty fast. I think I will slow it down and try to get through two songs, then three ......

Funny techie story -- for years I have used MS Front Page to do web sites. When I tried to update some changes a few weeks ago, I could not get it to upload. Called Tech Support. Well, DUH. MS discontinued Front Page a few years ago and my hosting company sent me an e-mail with new passwords, etc. Yes, I got the e-mail. And yes, I was using the new passwords. But nowhere in the e-mail did they specifically say they no longer supported Front Page. SIGH. I could swear I updated the web site maybe 8 months ago and it worked then. I was on the phone for an hour and when all the run-arounds did not work he told me I would have to download some FTP software. Free for 30 days then $50. He said when I got it, to call them and they would walk me through using it. OK. I download. I call. ANOTHER HOUR on the phone and they can't get it to work. Finally he says he has to investigate and will send me an e-mail. (I was talking to someone in the PHILIPPINES. I asked.) As soon as I hung up, I thought Firewall! Well, Duh again. The second I turned off my Firewall, the FTP worked like a charm. One would think that would have been one of the suggestions from the tech rep. But then I think, maybe they assume everyone knows to turn off their freaking Firewall and I am just an Idiot.

Have a wonderful week! XXOO

Alida, I understand your frustration with the software change. I spent way way too long trying to get itunes to rip audio CDs. I had three novels that I wanted to load on an IPOD. After spending long enough at the computer over two days that my back was killing me, I finally figured it out. Now, that I've got the process figured out, I don't have anything else to load.

Re: the oven-- yes, using the self-cleaning feature too often can shorten the life of the heating element. I must confess, that's not what made mine burn out. That's pretty evident by the looks of the inside of the oven.

There is no relief in sight for the heat wave we are getting. In fact, it's supposed to get hotter. Huge fires about 4 hours from here. Our fire engine took off about 1/2 hour ago so that means a fire closer to us. This is sooo scary waiting for what we hope won't happen.

Now, I have some great news. Remember I told you guys that I found my neice on Facebook? Well, I get to meet her on the August long weekend. I'm so excited. 11 more sleeps! At first dh said we couldn't go because he wanted to camp with the ballteam. I sure set him straight. She's pregnant and as she gets closer to her due date she won't be coming up this area. As it is the heat will be hard on her so I've sugguested we all meet in the park...at least we can find some shade there.

Back later.. I hope.

It's getting hotter... and it will get worse in the next week. This is crazy!

Dh is suffering something terrible with gout in his hand. It's so swollen he can't even close it...and it throbs constantly. I've finally talked him into going to the dr. this afternoon. After checking it out on the internet I find I've been feeding him all the wrong stuff (sorry honey!) I didn't know that cauliflower, mushrooms and peas were bad for gout...now I do.

Due to a doctor shortage in our little town the ER has been closed for the last week. Now, due to this we've lost a lovely woman about my age. She unknowingly ate hazelnuts and had a bad reaction. By the time the ambulance got her to the hospital closest to us she had to be taken to intensive care. She died yesterday. This woman had to be the biggest volunteer our community had. She really will be missed. Maybe now they will do something about the ER being closed!!?

Flying by to wish everyone a good week end!
Hope everyone stays cool....and for some of us, that will be hard with the heat waves that keep happening. I'd give a good $2.00 for a 2 day snow storm right about now! LOL!

My running is still going pretty good; some days I can only run about 1.33 or so, then other days, I can hit the 1.5 mile mark before I have to stop.
Anyhoo...
Donna....hope you guys get some heat relief soon! How's your hubby?
Alida...hope you get a chance to stop by for a visit this weekend!
We miss you "fer shure"!
And speaking of missing...Bren, Bert, and Peg...where are ya?
Barb is traveling....
and I suspect our BIRTHDAY GIRL FOR TOMORROW,
Ms Judy, is also on vacation!
sooooo, in case I don't get to stop by tomorrow....

Happy, Happy Birthday, Judy!!
Celebrate...Celebrate...Celebrate!!!
